Retrospective analysis of data on the prevalence of malignant neoplasms in dogs and cats

The article presents the results of a study on the primary incidence of malignant tumors in dogs and cats in Moscow over the period from January 1, 2023, to July 1, 2024. The study was conducted on the basis of the Department of Diseases of Small Domestic, Laboratory and Exotic Animals and the Research Laboratory of Oncology, Ophthalmology and Animal Biochemistry of the Russian Biotechnological University “ROSBIOTECH”. The study included 208 cats and 325 dogs with primary, spontaneous malignant tumors of various origins. To confirm the diagnosis, a comprehensive approach was used, including clinical examination, hematological tests, and special diagnostic techniques such as ultrasonography, radiography, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Verification of the tumor process was based on cytological and histological methods.The purpose of this work is to analyze the structure of the incidence of small domestic animals with malignant tumors. As a result, we identified the most common types of tumors in cats and dogs. In cats, breast carcinoma was the most common type (44.23%), followed by lymphoma (18.27%), sarcomas (13.46%) and carcinomas (13.94%), as well as squamous cell carcinoma (6.25%). In dogs, breast carcinoma also accounted for the majority of cases (37.23%), along with sarcomas (23.38%), mastocytomas (16.31%), and carcinomas (14.15%).

Study on the Regulatory Mechanism of the PDK1-Mediated TGF-β/Smad Signaling Pathway in Hypoxia-Induced Yak Lungs.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of hypoxia-induced phenotype, glucose metabolism, ROS levels, and the PDK1-mediated regulation of TGF-β/Smad signaling in yellow cattles, yaks, and those overexpressing PDK1 PASMCs using growth curves, flow cytometry, scratch experiments, glucose and lactic acid assays, RT-qPCR, and Western blotting. The results showed that hypoxia significantly promoted proliferation, migration, antiapoptosis, ROS levels, glucose consumption, and lactate production in yellow cattle PASMCs (p < 0.05), and the cells were dedifferentiated from the contractile phenotype; conversely, hypoxia had no significant effect on yak PASMCs (p > 0.05). PDK1 overexpression significantly promoted proliferation, antiapoptosis, glucose consumption, and lactate production in yak PASMCs under normoxia and hypoxia (p < 0.05), decreased their migration levels under hypoxia (p < 0.05), and dedifferentiated the contractile phenotype of the cells. Overexpression of PDK1 in yak PASMCs is detrimental to their adaptation to hypoxic environments. Yak PASMCs adapted to the effects of hypoxia on lung tissue by downregulating the expression of genes related to the PDK1 and TGF-β/Smad signaling pathways. Taken together, the regulation of PDK1-mediated TGF-β/Smad signaling may be involved in the process of yaks' adaptation to the hypoxic environment of the plateau, reflecting the good adaptive ability of yaks. The present study provides basic information to further elucidate the mechanism of PDK1-mediated TGF-β/Smad signaling induced by hypoxia in the lungs of yaks, as well as target genes for the treatment of plateau diseases in humans and animals.

Performance of three multiplex real-time PCR assays for simultaneous detection of 12 infectious pathogens in mice affected with respiratory and digestive diseases.

Research quality can be improved with reliable and reproducible experimental results when animal experiments are conducted using laboratory animals with guaranteed microbiological and genetic quality through health monitoring. Therefore, health monitoring requires the rapid and accurate diagnosis of infectious diseases in laboratory animals. This study presents a performance evaluation of a commercially available multiplex real-time PCR (mRT-PCR) assay for the rapid detection of 12 infectious pathogens (Set 1: Sendai virus [SeV, formally murine respirovirus], Mycoplasma spp., Rodentibacter pneumotropicus, and Rodentibacter heylii; Set 2: Helicobacter spp., Murine norovirus [MNV], Murine hepatitis virus [MHV], and Salmonella spp.; Set 3: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptobacillus moniliformis, Corynebacterium kutscheri, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa). To evaluate the efficacy of the mRT-PCR assay, 102 clinical samples encompassing fecal and cecal specimens were analyzed. The resulting data were then compared with the findings from sequence analysis for validation. The assay's detection limit ranged from 1 to 100 copies per reaction. Specificity testing involving various viruses and bacteria indicated no cross-reactivity between strains. Additionally, the assay exhibited good reproducibility, with mean coefficients of variation for inter- and intra assay variation below 3%. The overall positive rate was 52.9% (n = 54), with the mRT-PCR assay findings matching sequence analysis results (κ = 1). MHV (n = 29, 28.4%) was the most prevalent pathogen, followed by Helicobacter spp. (n = 28, 27.5%), R. heylii (n = 18, 17.6%), Mycoplasma spp. (n = 14, 13.7%), MNV (n = 12, 11.8%), S. aureus (n = 9, 8.8%), P. aeruginosa (n = 4, 3.9%), and R. pneumotropicus (n = 1, 0.9%). This assay offers a rapid turnaround time of 100 min, including 30 min for DNA preparation and 70 min for target DNA/RNA amplification. It ensures accuracy, minimizing false positives or negatives, making it a convenient tool for the simultaneous detection of infectious diseases in many samples. Overall, the propose‑d assay holds promise for the effective detection of the most important pathogens in laboratory animal health monitoring.

Use of domestic biological drugs in reproduction of cattle

purpose of the work was to analyze the use of domestic biodrugs in the reproduction of cattle. In the scientifi c and economic experiment, three groups of dry cows (control, 1st and 2nd experimental) were formed according to the principle of analog groups, taking into account the clinical and physiological condition, age and live weight. In the 2nd series of the experiment, 3 groups of newborn heifers were formed in accordance with the groups of dams. The work scientifi cally substantiates and experimentally proves the eff ectiveness of using complex immunomodulatory biodrugs consisting of two main active components (yeast cells and vitamins) Salus-PE and Bovistim-K, in the technology of cow reproduction and calf rearing. It has been established that the use of biodrugs in late pregnant cows improved the course of the calving and postpartum periods, increased milk productivity and colostrum quality, forms stable colostral immunity in newborn calves, reduced the risks of respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases in young animals, contributing to better live weight gains. The tested complex immunomodulatory biodrugs activate hematopoiesis, compensatory mechanisms of the body, the population of immune cells in the blood, increased protein metabolism, the expression profi le of cellular and humoral factors of non-specifi c resistance. The use of the developed biodrugs during decornuation stimulated tissue regeneration, accelerated the process of scab formation, normalized the level of γ-globulins, activated the synthesis of α- and β-globulins, oxidation-reduction processes and metabolism, which ensured an increase in the immune status of the body of calves in the neonatal period. The economic effi ciency of using the biodrugs Salus-PE and Bovistim-K in the technology of cow reproduction in the 1st and 2nd experimental groups based on 1 ruble of additional costs was 2.63 and 4.50 rubles, and in the technology of raising calves 6.85 and 11.20 rubles, respectively.

Further validation of 2 nonstructural protein-specific antibody tests for diagnosis and surveillance of foot-and-mouth disease in the United States.

Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a highly contagious disease of cloven-hoofed animals. FMD poses an economic threat to the livestock industry in the United States. Due to the potential use of vaccines composed of partially purified structural proteins of the FMD virus (FMDV), it is important to test samples from infected and vaccinated animals with a competitive ELISA that detects antibodies against nonstructural proteins (NSPs) of FMDV. Our study extends the diagnostic validation of the Prionics ELISA (Thermo Fisher) and the VMRD ELISA. We used diverse serum sample sets from bovine, porcine, and other cloven-hoofed animals to evaluate the analytical specificity and sensitivity, diagnostic specificity and sensitivity, and differentiation of infected from vaccinated animals (DIVA) per validation guidelines outlined by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). The 2 tests were analytically 100% accurate. The VMRD test was diagnostically more sensitive than Prionics, but Prionics was diagnostically more specific than the VMRD test. Both tests could tell if animals were infected or vaccinated. Considering these data, both VMRD and Prionics ELISAs can be used for serodetection of FMDV antibodies at the Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory and within the National Animal Health Laboratory Network laboratories.

Development of a Sensitive Monoclonal Antibody-Based Colloidal Gold Immunochromatographic Strip for Lomefloxacin Detection in Meat Products.

Lomefloxacin (LOM), an antibiotic crucial for preventing various animal diseases in animal husbandry, can pose serious health risks when found in excessive amounts in meat products. The development of highly specific and sensitive colloidal gold immunochromatographic test strips is essential for the accurate detection of this class of antibiotics. Our study utilized a monoclonal antibody (mAb) assay and immunochromatographic strips to detect lomefloxacin residues in meat products. The results showed minimal cross-reactivity with other structural analogs, with a maximum half inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 0.93 ng/mL and a linear range of 0.38 to 2.3 ng/mL for the indirect competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ic-ELISA). The recovery of LOM was 80% to 120%, with an average coefficient of variation below 5%. The immunochromatographic strip test results showed a visual detection limit of 2.5 ng/g, meeting the market requirements for the test. This study highlights the significance of specific and sensitive testing methods for detecting lomefloxacin, ensuring consumers' safety and health.

LAMP combined with Pyrococcus furiosus Argonaute for the ultrasensitive and highly specific point-of-care test platform for Listeria monocytogenes detection

Listeria monocytogenes is an important foodborne pathogen that causes serious infectious diseases in humans and animals. Rapid, accurate, and sensitive detection in the field is critical for the timely implementation of control measures and ensuring food safety. The study established a method that combines loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) technology and Pyrococcus furiosus Argonaute (PfAgo) reporter system, which can detect L. monocytogenes hly gene levels as low as 1.8 × 101 copies. To overcome the demands on instrumentation and equipment, lateral flow strip (LFS) technology was combined for the first time in a LAMP-PfAgo-based system to detect L. monocytogenes. The method was highly sensitive, with a limit of detection of 1.8 × 102copies, and specificity results showed no cross-reactivity with other pathogens. The performance of the method was comparable to that of real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (qPCR) in the detection of 18 food origin samples. Moreover, the LAMP-PfAgo reaction was equipped a low-cost thin metal bath as a simple amplification device, allowing it to detect L. monocytogenes samples in shorter time, highlighting its potential as a portable, rapid, accurate, and visual nucleic acid assay. The method can facilitate the early detection of pathogenic infections and promoting food safety detection technologies.

Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals (OMIA): a genetic resource for vertebrate animals.

Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals (OMIA) is a freely available curated knowledgebase that contains information and facilitates research on inherited traits and diseases in animals. For the past 29 years, OMIA has been used by animal geneticists, breeders, and veterinarians worldwide as a definitive source of information. Recent increases in curation capacity and funding for software engineering support have resulted in software upgrades and commencement of several initiatives, which include the enhancement of variant information and links to human data resources, and the introduction of ontology-based breed information and categories. We provide an overview of current information and recent enhancements to OMIA and discuss how we are expanding the integration of OMIA into other resources and databases via the use of ontologies and the adaptation of tools used in human genetics.

Therapeutic efficacy of cold atmospheric plasma in four golden retrievers with acute otitis externa.

Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is a new therapeutic tool used to treat various skin diseases in humans and animals. To evaluate the effect of CAP in the treatment of canine acute otitis externa (AOE). Four client-owned golden retriever dogs with bilateral AOE. After cleaning with a commercial ear cleanser, right ears (STANDARD group) were treated with an antibiotic/antifungal/corticosteroid combination and left ears (CAP group) were treated with CAP every three days for a total of four treatments. Cytological score and otitis index score (OTIS)3 were recorded for each ear on Day (D)0, D10 and D15. At D10 and D15, owners and investigators recorded an overall assessment. In both groups, OTIS3 and cytological score decreased over the study period. The overall assessment scale ranged from moderate to excellent in both groups. Cold atmospheric plasma treatment showed equal therapeutic effect compared with a commercial topical anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial ear treatment.

Echinococcus ortleppi infection in humans: An emerging zoonosis in Asia

Echinococcus ortleppi is the genotype G5 of Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato and is a zoonotic canine tapeworm of which larvae causes cystic diseases in domestic animals and also humans. While this species is highly endemic and widely spread in domestic animals, human infection is extremely rare and only sporadic, and thus, entire picture of human cystic echinococcosis due to infection with E. ortleppi is unclear. We have made an extensive literature review on the cases of E. ortleppi infection in humans and found a total of 19 cases from various places in the world with recent emergence in Asian countries.

Determining orbital volumes of sheep, goats and gazelles via computed tomography.

Orbital volume refers to the sum of bulbus oculi volume and orbital cavity volume. Scientists use orbital volume as a guide to diagnose, treat and prognose various eye diseases such as thyroid eye disease and enophthalmos. This study aims to examine the orbital volumes of sheep, goats and gazelles to demonstrate homotypic variations and interspecific differences between them. Crania of six male tuj sheep, five male hair goats and five male gazelle were used in this study. The crania were scanned using a 64-detector multi-detector computed tomography with a slice thickness of 0.625mm at 80kV, 200 MA and 639 mGy. The cross-sectional images were stored in DICOM format and then transferred to MIMICS 20.1 software. Afterwards, models were made by establishing the orbital borders on the cross-sections. Volume values were calculated based on the models. No homotypic variation was found between the right and left volumes within the species (p > 0.05). A statistically significant difference was observed in terms of interspecific right and left orbital volumes between sheep and gazelles (p < 0.05). It was concluded that the orbital parameters of the sheep, goats and gazelles in the same family help reveal their differences in the visual anatomy of these species and provide reference data for clinical diagnosis, treatment and the prognosis follow-up of ocular diseases in animals.

Adsorption/desorption of enrofloxacin in farmland soil as the effect of pH and coexisting ions: implications for enrofloxacin fate and risk in loess soil.

Fluoroquinolone antibiotics have been extensively used in clinical treatments for human and animal diseases. However, their long-term presence in the environment increases the risk of producing resistance genes and creates a potential threat to ecosystems and the health of humans and animals. Batch equilibrium experiments were utilized to investigate the adsorption and retention behavior and mechanism of the quinolone antibiotic enrofloxacin (ENR) in farmland soil in North China. The adsorption and desorption kinetics of ENR in soil were best fitted by pseudo-second-order model (R2 > 0.999). Both the adsorption and desorption processes of ENR in soil reached equilibrium in 1h. The desorption amounts of ENR were significantly lower than the adsorption amounts, with the hysteresis coefficient (HI) being less than 0.7. The adsorption thermodynamic process of ENR followed the Linear and Freundlich models (0.965 < R2 < 0.985). Hydrophobic distribution and heterogeneous multimolecular layer adsorption were identified as critical factors in the adsorption process. The adsorption amount of ENR gradually decreased with increasing temperature and the initial concentration of ENR. The adsorption rate of ENR was above 80%, while the desorption rate remained below 15%, indicating strong retention ability. The adsorption rate of ENR in soil decreased with increasing pH, the adsorption rate reached 98.3% at pH 3.0 but only 31.5% at pH 11. The influence of coexisting ions on adsorption primarily depended on their properties, such as ion radius, ionic strength, and hydrolysis properties, and the inhibition of adsorption increased with increasing ionic strength. These findings contribute to understanding the fate and risk of veterinary antibiotics in loess soil in North China.

Effects of a Chinese herbal medicine mixture on growth performance, immune response, and gene expression in Chinese soft-shelled turtles (Pelodiscus sinensis)

Chinese herbal medicines (CHMs), known for their safety, low toxicity, and minimal impact on the environment, are often used as a natural feed additive in aquaculture to prevent or control diseases of aquatic animals. However, their effect on cell responses of Chinese soft-shelled turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis) remains unexplored. In this study, the extract mixed with four Chinese herbs of Astragalus membranaceus, Lycium barbarum, Rhizoma polygonati and Codonopsis pilosula in proportions (7:8:3:2) was used as a feed additive for 60 days to study their effects on the growth performance and immune response of P. sinensis in greenhouse mode. Results showed that the weight gain rate and the specific growth rate in the CHMs group were 46.63 % and 0.64 %, which were 1.13- and 1.15-fold of that in the control group, respectively. Besides, CHMs could significantly improve the survival rate by 76.94 % after artificial infection of Aeromonas hydrophila. The CHMs group also exhibited significant increases in the activities of total superoxide dismutase (27.76 %), catalase (41.28 %), glutathione peroxidase (14.62 %), and glutathione sulfur transferase (36.75 %) compared to the control group. Conversely, malondialdehyde concentration was reduced to 67.82 % of that in the control group. Moreover, the concentration of lysozyme and complement C3, as well as the activity of acid phosphatase, rose by 16.43 %, 24.30 %, and 27.68 %, respectively. Comparative transcriptome analysis revealed that growth, immunity, and lipid metabolism-related pathways are involved in the response to CHMs. Among these, the two pathways of the cell cycle and the cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction may play important roles in the growth and immunity of P. sinensis. SMOX, STAT3, and HMGCS1 may serve as key genes in CHMs-stimulated immune response in P. sinensis; GADD45B, ARG1, ACVR1C, and BMP7 may be crucial genes in promoting the growth of P. sinensis. This study provides a theoretical and practical basis for the green and efficient culture of P. sinensis.

Isolation and characterization of Leptospira licerasiae in Austrian swine — a first-time case report in Europe

BackgroundLeptospiraceae comprise a diverse family of spirochetal bacteria, of which many are involved in infectious diseases of animals and humans. Local leptospiral diversity in domestic animals is often poorly understood. Here we describe the incidental detection of Leptospira (L.) licerasiae in an Austrian pig.Case presentationDuring an experiment to characterize the pathogenesis of L. interrogans serovar Icterohaemorrhagiae in pigs, cultivation of a urine sample from a non-challenged contact pig resulted in growth of a spirochetal bacterium that tested negative for pathogenic Leptospira (LipL32 gene). PCR, Sanger sequencing and standard serotyping further confirmed that the recovered isolate was clearly different from the challenge strain L. interrogans serovar Icterohaemorrhagiae used in the animal experiment. Whole genome sequencing revealed that the isolate belongs to the species L. licerasiae, a tropical member of the Leptospiraceae, with no prior record of detection in Europe.ConclusionsThis is the first report describing the occurrence of L. licerasiae in Europe. Since L. licerasiae is considered to have intermediate pathogenicity, it will be important to follow the geographical distribution of this species and its pathogenic and zoonotic potential in more detail.

Influence of gestational window on offspring vascular health in rodents with in utero exposure to electronic cigarettes.

Studies have shown cerebrovascular dysfunction in offspring with full-gestational electronic cigarette (Ecig) exposure, but little is known about how individual trimester exposure impacts offspring health. This study aimed to determine if there is a critical window during gestation that contributes to vascular and anxiety-like behavioural changes seen with full-term exposure. To test this, rats were time-mated, and the pregnant dams were randomly assigned to Ecig exposure during first trimester (gestational day, GD2-7), second trimester (GD8-14), third trimester (GD15-21) or full-term gestation (GD2-21). We also assessed the effect of maternal preconception exposure. Both male and female offspring from all maternal exposure conditions were compared to offspring from dams under ambient air (control) conditions. Ecig exposure consisted of 60-puffs/day (5days/week) using either 5 or 30watts for each respective exposure group. We found that maternal exposure to Ecig in the second and third trimesters resulted in a decrease (23-38%) in vascular reactivity of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) reactivity in 3- and 6-month-old offspring compared to Air offspring. Further, the severity of impairment was comparable to the full-term exposure (31-46%). Offspring also displayed changes in body composition, body mass, anxiety-like behaviour and locomotor activity, indicating that Ecigs influence neurodevelopment and metabolism. Maternal preconception exposure showed no impact on offspring body mass, anxiety-like behaviour, or vascular function. Thus, the critical exposure window where Ecig affects vascular development in offspring occurs during mid- to late-gestation in pregnancy, and both 5W and 30W exposure produce significant vascular dysfunction compared to Air. KEY POINTS: Exposure to electronic cigarettes (Ecigs) is known to increase risk factors for cardiovascular disease in both animals and humans. Maternal Ecig use during pregnancy in rodents is found to impair the vascular health of adolescent and adult offspring, but the critical gestation window for Ecig-induced vascular impairment is not known. This study demonstrates Ecig exposure during mid- and late-gestation (i.e. second or third trimester) results in impaired endothelial cell-mediated dilatation (i.e. middle cerebral artery reactivity) and alters anxiety-like behaviour in offspring. Maternal exposure prior to conception did not impact offspring's vascular or anxiety-like behavioural outcomes. Rodent models have been a reliable and useful predictor of inhalation-induced harm to humans. These data indicate maternal use of Ecigs during pregnancy should not be considered safe, and begin to inform clinicians and women about potential long-term harm to their offspring.

Epidemiological patterns of natural focal diseases of the Voronezh region

Diseases of animals and humans are widespread and are confined to the habitat of the reservoir. Urbanization has led to the expansion of the range of natural focal diseases with the formation of persistent anthropurgic foci.The purpose of the work was to study the epizootic manifestations of natural focal diseases and analyze the morbidity of the population of the Voronezh region. The research material was based on data from federal statistical observation forms No. 2 for 2012–2022, and the results of epizootological monitoring of the department of natural focal infections and laboratories of the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in the Voronezh region. A retrospective epidemiological analysis of the morbidity rate of the population of the Voronezh region was carried out, ranking administrative territories based on the method of standard deviations. The results obtained were processed using Microsoft Excel; the long-term average incidence rate, error of the mean, confidence intervals, and significance level (p) less than 0.05 were calculated. The result of the analysis showed that the long-term average incidence rate of natural focal diseases in the Voronezh region was 9.91 per 100,000 population. In the structure of nosological forms, 85.98 % were tick-borne borreliosis and hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. The long-term average incidence rate of Lyme disease is 4.45 per 100,000 population, hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome is 0.87 per 100,000 population. According to the ranking results, the Ramonsky, Ternovsky and Anninsky administrative territories were classified as risk areas for the average long-term incidence of borreliosis, and the Ramonsky, Verkhnekhava and Paninsky administrative territories for hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. The results obtained indicate active natural foci of infections in the Voronezh region.

‘Natural’ disasters, ignorance, and the mirage of Italian settler colonialism in late nineteenth-century Africa

ABSTRACT This article places the origins of Italian settler colonialism and its defeat in the battle of Adwa (1896) in the global perspective of the environmental history of European imperialism. It argues that the Italian project to turn the highlands of the Horn of Africa into a settler colony was an “imperial mirage”: the perception that the momentarily depopulated landscape of Ethiopia, produced by “natural” disasters that were in fact the social products of colonial warfare, would be available to Italian settlers in the future. This mirage was based on a domino effect of environmental catastrophes connecting climate history, animal disease, and the politics of European imperialism. Italians’ introduction of rinderpest in Eritrea in the wake of an El Niño-related drought triggered “the Great African Rinderpest Panzootic” and the “Great Ethiopian Famine”. The mixture of willful ignorance and wishful self-deception that fueled Italian projects explains Italy’s defeat in the battle of Adwa. Building on the methodology of environmental historians and scholars in Science and Technology Studies, this article shifts focus from the power of the state to the techno-politics of colonialism in its impact on natural environments and African communities through the lens of the cultural production of ignorance.

Molecular and serological prevalence rates of Neospora caninum infection in dogs from Jordan.

Neosporosis is a proven disease of farm animals and dogs caused by Neospora caninum. This cross-sectional study investigates N. caninum prevalence and seroprevalence among 268 dogs. Nc5 gene PCR was carried out on dog faeces and confirmed by sequencing. Seroprevalence was detected using an indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT). Three age groups, gender, locality (Amman, Irbid, and Zarqa Governorates), dog type (stray, pet, and breeding), place of living (indoor/outdoor), food type (raw/cooked), having diarrhoea, having abortion in the area, and having animals nearby were tested as independent variables for associations with positivity to N. caninum using univariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses. The true prevalence of N. caninum was 34.3% (95% CI 28.4, 40.5) using the Nc5-PCR test. The true seroprevalence rate of N. caninum among dogs in Jordan was 47.9% (95% CI 41.4, 54.5) using IFAT. The sequenced isolates of Nc5-PCR products (n = 85) matched three N. caninum strains, namely, NcHareGre (n = 70, 82.4%, 95% CI 72.6-89), NC MS2 (n = 14, 16.5%, 95% CI 9.3-26.1), and L218 (n = 1, 1.2%, 95% CI 0.03-6.4). The three strains were isolated previously from three different countries and continents. N. caninum shedding is associated with abortion among dogs and animals in the area (odds ratio = 3.6). In Amman and Zarqa, living indoors reduced seroprevalence at 0.45, 0.24, and 0.02 odds ratios, respectively. Jordan shares three molecular N. caninum strains with three different countries and continents.
