Ordered porous films of single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) modified with a cationic surfactant, dimethyldioctadecylammonium bromide (DODMAB), are prepared at the air/water interface. We determined the parameters for tuning the well-defined reproducible porous films adjusting the casting conditions, the solvent polarity and DODMAB concentration, etc. Double-chain cations, DODMA+, can be completely removed through an ionic exchange reaction to obtain the ordered porous films of SWCNTs only. Compared with SWCNTs, the ordered porous SWCNTs films exhibit excellent antibacterial activity and electric conductivity. The ordered porous SWCNTs films were used for self-patterning of Ag nanoparticles attached to SWCNTs films which efficiently possess the catalytic reduction of organic dyes. This work may provide new avenues for the preparation of ordered functional carbon materials and is also envisaged to find applications in catalytic chemistry.
