A study on the measurement of occupational burnout and network security intervention of counselors in vocational colleges from the perspective of social ecology

With the rapid development of society and the advent of the information age, counselors in higher vocational colleges and universities are facing the double test of burnout and network security. Burnout affects counselors’ work efficacy and psychological health, while cybersecurity poses certain hazards to counselors’ occupational safety. Based on the social ecology perspective, this paper explores the measurement of burnout and puts forward corresponding countermeasure suggestions, with a view to improving the work efficiency and occupational safety of counselors in higher vocational colleges and universities, and providing useful references for the construction and management of counselor teams in higher vocational colleges and universities. This paper takes the job burnout status and network security structure of vocational college counselors as the research object, and explores its causes. Corresponding countermeasures have been proposed. This article selects 100 counselors from a vocational college in X city as the research objects. The latest version of China’s job burnout scale, Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS), was used to study it. The experimental results showed that in the dimension of emotional exhaustion, 55% of the subjects were mild. 40% were moderate and 5% were severe. In terms of cynicism, 65% were mild. 30% were moderate and 5% were moderate. On the “low achievement” dimension, the participants were “slightly” rated at 10%. “Moderate” was 75% and “Severe” was 15%. Across the three dimensions, the results showed that job burnout was widespread among vocational college counselors.

Correlaciones entre burnout académico, afrontamiento y apoyo social en estudiantes universitarios

The study wasproposeddue to the perception of the scarcity of studies on the correlation between burnout, coping and social support. Thus, the present study aimed to verify the prevalence of academic burnout and its correlationswith coping strategies and social support in students of health courses. The sample consisted of 173 participants, agesbetween 18 and 30 years (M = 23.71; SD = 7.04). For data collection we used: Sociodemographic questionnaire, Maslach Burnout Inventory for students (MBI-SS), Brief COPE (coping inventory) and Social Support Satisfaction Scale for higher education students (SSSS). The results revealed correlations between the dimensions of emotional exhaustion and cynicism, with family support satisfaction [F (3. 201752) = 9184.986, p < .001; r2 = .12] and F (3.168) = 8.473, p < .001; r2 = .131]. Referring to the correlations between coping strategies with the other study variables, the sample most frequently used emotion-focused coping in the strategies of Self-blaming (r = .290, p<.001); Substance Use (r = .241, p<.01); Instrumental Support (r = .206, p<.01) and Positive Reinterpretation (r =.197, p<.01)

The associations between resilience, self-care, and burnout among medical students

Burnout is a work-related stress syndrome with substantial consequences for patients, physicians, and medical students. Personal resilience, i.e., the ability to bounce back and thrive despite challenging circumstances, and certain practices, such as self-care, may protect individuals from burnout. However, limited information exists on the complex relationships between resilience, different self-care practices, and burnout. Understanding these associations is important for designing efficient interventions within medical schools. Therefore, the present study examined the direct and indirect associations through a cross-sectional study among 95 fourth-year medical students. Self-reported questionnaires measured resilience, self-care dimensions (stress management, spiritual growth, interpersonal relations, health responsibility), and burnout dimensions (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, personal accomplishment). Data were analyzed via IBM-SPSS and PROCESS-macro. The main results demonstrated that self-care mediated the associations between resilience and burnout: stress management and interpersonal relations mediated the associations with emotional exhaustion, while spiritual growth mediated the association with personal accomplishment. These results highlight that medical students’ resilience may encourage self-care behaviors, thus decreasing levels of the burnout dimensions of emotional exhaustion and personal accomplishment. Developing curricula that enhance students’ resilience through applying self-care techniques in stressful situations may reduce the negative impact of burnout in healthcare.

Resilience as Safety Culture in German Emergency Medical Services: Examining Irritation and Burnout.

The stress levels in emergency services are enormous. The resulting stress can range from psychological irritation to burnout. This study examines the importance of resilience in the German EMS and its significance for the risk of irritation and burnout among EMS personnel. A quantitative cross-sectional online survey was conducted among 285 EMS personnel in Germany. Resilience was measured by the RS-13 Scale, irritation by the Irritation Scale (IS), and burnout by the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). Sociodemographic and job-related data were also collected. A classification into resilient groups was used to compare stress levels. More than one-third (39%) of the participants had a low level of resilience. EMS personnel with high levels of resilience had significantly lower scores on the cognitive and emotional irritation dimensions, as well as on the burnout dimensions of emotional exhaustion and cynicism. Resilience plays an important role in the safety culture of emergency services. The results support the hypothesis that high levels of resilience lead to less stress and help people cope better with stress. Almost two-fifths of the participants had lower resilience, underscoring the need for safe communication and targeted measures to strengthen resilience. Regular training, a supportive work environment, and promoting team cohesion and social support can improve emergency responders' mental health and job performance. Future research should develop specific intervention strategies and evaluate their effectiveness to ensure the long-term health of emergency responders and improve the quality of emergency care.

Testing the Effects of Workplace Variables on the Job Burnout Among Prison Officers in India: An Application of the Job Demands–Resources Model

The current study used the job demands–resources model and survey data from prison officers in India in order to examine how workplace variables are associated with three job burnout dimensions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced sense of work accomplishment. Job demands make the job more difficult and are generally linked to negative outcomes, while job resources make the job less difficult and are generally linked to positive outcomes. The job demands for the current study were role overload, routinization, and fear of being victimized at work, and the job resources were training views, instrumental communication, and job autonomy. Based on ordinary least squares regression results of surveys from 168 officers from a prison in the Haryana State of India, this study found that role overload was associated with higher levels of all three burnout dimensions, while routinization was only associated with higher levels of emotional exhaustion. Curiously, fear of victimization was associated with lower levels of depersonalization and reduced sense of work accomplishment. Instrumental communication was associated with lower levels of all three burnout dimensions, while training views and job autonomy had no significant effects on any burnout dimension.

Introduction: Parental burnout is the condition related to emotional and/or physical exhaustion caused by excessive chronic stress experienced as a parent. Parental burnout is personality-conditioned, and, in the first place, it is related to higher neuroticism. Co-occurrence of other personality traits with parental burnout depends on the characteristics of the studied population of parents and cultural conditionings. Research Aim: Assessment of the intensity of parental burnout in mothers of children with central auditory processing disorder (APD) compared to mothers of children with disabilities as well as investigation of its relation to the Big Five personality traits and the sociodemographic factors. Methods: The study involved 75 mothers of children with APD. Questionnaires used included the Parental Burnout Measure (PBM-12), the Short IPIP-BFM-20 Questionnaire for measuring the Big Five personality, and the Data Collection Survey. Results: The results show that the level of parental burnout in mothers of children with APD is generally similar to that in mothers of children with various impairments. However, its intensity in the dimension of emotional exhaustion is significantly lower. Three personality traits may have a protective function: (higher) emotional stability, conscientiousness and extraversion, and agreeableness in relation to feelings of helplessness. Emotional stability was found to be a predicting factor for parental burnout, while (higher) agreeableness allows only predicting (lower) helplessness experienced by mothers of children with APD. Conclusions: Mothers of children with APD experiencing parental burnout should have access to different forms of psychological intervention that would allow them to increase their parental resources, especially those conditioned by emotional stability, as well as those related to conscientiousness, extraversion, and agreeableness.

A Look at the Challenges of Burnout Syndrome and Technostress in a Software Development Company

Objective: The study aims to identify the impact of technostress on the Burnout propensity of workers at a software development company in the northwest region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Theoretical Framework: To support the work, we used the concepts of the software development industry, technostress and Burnout Syndrome. Method: The research adopted is descriptive in nature, with a quantitative approach, carried out using the Survey method. For data collection, a questionnaire divided into two blocks was used, the first analyzed Burnout Syndrome and in the second block, the five factors that create Techno-stress were analyzed. The data collection instrument was applied remotely over the internet using Google Form. The analysis techniques were carried out using SPSS software, basic descriptive statistics, Spearman correlation, and multiple linear regression. Results and Discussion: Sample of 71 respondents, with an average age of 32 years, 35.2% have completed higher education and 57.7% of these are part of the company's public sector. The first model explains variations in the Emotional Exhaustion (EE) dimension. The Second model explains variations in Low Personal Involvement at Work and the Depersonalization model highlights that variations can be explained by technostress. Research Implications: This study explores a new connection between technostress analysis and Burnout Syndrome in the context of software development. This study provides a practical basis for companies in the same sector to consider the health of their employees.

THE EFFECT OF ORGANIZATIONAL JUSTICE ON EMOTIONAL EXHAUSTION: THE CASE OF HEALTH EMPLOYEES

It will be tried to point out the issues of justice and burnout in the health sector, due to the inability of healthcare workers to obtain their material and moral rights in Türkiye, whose workload and work-related problems have become more evident with the pandemic, and the impact of the physical and psychological violence they encounter. In this context, purpose of the research is to examine the effect of organizational justice perception on emotional burnout. The research data required for this purpose was obtained from 141 health officers working in a research hospital in Ankara by face-to-face survey method in November-December 2022. Turkish adaptation made by Yıldırım (2007) of the organizational justice perception scale, which consists of 3 dimensions: distributive, interactional and procedural justice and contains 20 items, developed by Niehoff and Moorman (1993), which has been widely used in the literature in order to evaluate employees’ perception of organizational justice, was used. In order to evaluate employees’ perceptions of emotional exhaustion, 9 items from the scale published in the literature as the Maslach Burnout Inventory, which consists of 3 dimensions and 22 items developed by Maslach and Jackson (1981), were used and the Turkish adaptation of the emotional exhaustion dimension was made by Ergin (1992). The scales used to collect data were primarily subjected to confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) using the MPlus 7 package program. After the CFA along with the goodness of the scales’ fit values, effect of organizational justice on emotional burnout was tested with SEM (structural equation model) analysis. The result revealed that the perception of organizational justice affects emotional burnout in a significant and negative way. Research results reveal the benefit of investigating relation between organizational justice and burnout in the healthcare sector. In this context, the research is important in terms of understanding the employees in the sector and the subjective well-being of the sector.

Risk Factors Affecting Stress and Burnout Among Teachers: A Cross-Sectional Study From Chonburi, Thailand.

This study aimed to investigate the risk factors affecting stress and burnout among teachers after the COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand. The sample comprised 400 school teachers in the municipality of Chonburi province. The results found that the factors affecting stress were working more than 8 hours per day (2.03; 95%CI, 1.01-4.09), and being sick but having to come to work (2.30; 95%CI, 1.12-4.70). Factors affecting teacher burnout in the emotional exhaustion dimension were having frequent or almost constant time pressure (2.57; 95%CI, 1.92-6.73), a low level of job satisfaction (4.00; 95%CI, 1.55-10.34), and a low level of their own ability to work (2.57; 95%CI, 1.92-7.17). Factors affecting the cynicism dimension were having daily conflicts at work or having a moderate to high level of work-related problems (5.55; 95%CI, 1.71-18.04), and a low level of their own ability to work (3.40; 95%CI, 1.41-8.17). It is recommended that the schools' personnel development department allocate work to suit the needs and expertise of teachers so that they can work to their full potential.

The relationship between burnout syndrome and emotional intelligence in anesthesiologists during the COVID-19 pandemic: A cross-sectional study

Background Burnout, a type of long-lasting work-related stress, is highly prevalent among health professionals. It includes dimensions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and low professional achievement. Emotional intelligence is the ability to accurately perceive, evaluate, and express emotions, to perceive and/or produce feelings that facilitate thought, to understand emotion and acquire emotional knowledge, and to control emotions in order to promote emotional and intellectual growth. Among the extensive literature on burnout, no studies have measured its prevalence among anesthesiologists in Brazil during the COVID-19 pandemic. Studies on the association between emotional intelligence and burnout are also scarce in this population. The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence of burnout in anesthesiologists at a hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic and to assess its association with emotional intelligence. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted in a large private hospital in southern Brazil. A non-probabilistic convenience sample of anesthesiologists was selected from a hospital's clinical staff. Via Google Forms, participants responded to an anonymous self-applied self-explanatory questionnaire with sections on sociodemographic data, burnout (Maslach Burnout Inventory), and emotional intelligence (Wong and Law's Emotional Intelligence Scale). Descriptive analysis of the variables was performed and the association between burnout and emotional intelligence was evaluated using the Pearson or Spearman correlation coefficient, depending on data distribution. Results A burnout prevalence of 8.1% was found, as well as a strong negative correlation between total burnout scores and emotional intelligence. Conclusions According to the regression analysis, emotional intelligence can be considered an independent factor associated with this outcome.

Comparative study of job burnout in Shanghai-based nurses against Maslach norm and Hangzhou norm.

This study aimed to analyze the trend in job burnout among nurses in Shanghai, China. The nursing profession globally faces a significant challenge due to aging populations, causing a human resources crisis. Job burnout notably impacts nurses' enthusiasm for work and their overall well-being. Understanding the trends in job burnout among nurses is crucial for addressing this issue. A cross-sectional study involving 799 nurses from a tertiary-care hospital and 11 community health service centers in Pudong New Area South, Shanghai, was conducted using convenience sampling. Data were collected through a general information questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory scale, to assess job burnout levels. These data were compared with the established Maslach and Hangzhou norms in China. 74.6% of the participants experienced job burnout. The emotional exhaustion dimension had an average score of 27.27±13.93, indicating high levels of burnout; the depersonalization dimension had an average score of 7.83±6.68, showing moderate levels of fatigue; and the personal achievement dimension had an average score of 26.75±10.26, also indicating moderate fatigue. Notably, nurses aged 32-33 years with 11-12 years of professional experience were the most affected. The findings suggest that job burnout is a significant issue in Pudong New Area South, Shanghai, with a notable increase in severe burnout cases over the past decade. Nurses, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, face high rates of burnout, with emotional exhaustion being particularly prevalent. To support and retain the nursing workforce, hospital administrators must implement external reward mechanisms and develop policies that encourage personal growth, career development, and a humanistic approach to care. From our review of the literature, we identified instances where burnout standards are either not assessed or lack uniformity in their application. Therefore, it is imperative to adopt a standardized occupational burnout scale for a nationwide survey, encompassing nurse populations across various levels, including province, region, city, and institution. This approach will facilitate the establishment of a practical norm for occupational burnout within China. This norm would enable conducting regular assessments and comparisons to understand the evolving trends of job burnout among nurses, which could pave the way for the creation of targeted support interventions for the nursing profession.

Burnout among diabetes specialist registrars across the United Kingdom in the post-pandemic era.

Burnout syndrome is a condition resulting from chronic work-related stress exposure and can be identified by the presence of one or more of the three classic dimensions of burnout, i.e., emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and lack of personal accomplishment, which negatively impact physician health and productivity. This study aimed to identify burnout among Diabetes and Endocrinology Specialty Training Registrars (DStRs) across the United Kingdom. It was a Cross-sectional observational study after ethical approval ERSC_2022_1166, utilizing the gold standard Maslach Burnout Inventory to measure burnout syndrome, and to determine self-reported stressors and compare them with the results of our previous survey in 2018. Over 430 DStRs across the United Kingdom were invited electronically through their deanery representatives and specialty training bodies. Using Google Forms™ to gather data, we were able to collect 104 completed surveys. Results revealed that 62.5% (n = 65) of participants have burnout (5% increase from the previous survey in 2018), 38.6% (n = 40) have high emotional exhaustion, and 44.2% (n = 46) feel a lack of personal accomplishment. "General Internal Medicine specific workload" was the most common self-reported stressor reported by 87.5% (n = 91) of participants, whereas bullying/harassment and discrimination at work were reported by 35.6% (n = 37) and 30.77% (n = 32) of participants, respectively. Using multivariable logistic regression model, personal stress (OR, 4.00; 95% CI, 1.48-10.86; p = 0.006) had significant, while Bullying/harassment (OR, 3.75; 95% CI, 0.93-15.12; p = 0.063) had marginal impact on the presence of burnout. Diabetes and Endocrinology Specialty Training Registrars frequently experience burnout syndrome, which has increased over the last 4 years. Comparison of the Effect of Yoga and Aerobic Exercise on Nurses' Burnout: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Background: There is evidence of yoga and aerobic exercises as an effective therapy for nurse burnout; however, these methods have yet to be compared. Objectives: This study aimed to compare the effects of yoga and aerobic exercises on burnout among nurses. Methods: This was a randomized controlled trial with a pre-test and post-test design. The study was conducted in two medical and educational hospitals in the south of Iran (February 2019 to April 2019). A total of 81 female nurses were randomized to yoga (n = 27), aerobics (n = 27), and control (n = 27) groups. In this study, 24 sessions of yoga and aerobic practices were run. The Maslach Burnout Inventory was filled out before the intervention, immediately after, and one month later. The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS software 16.0. Shapiro test, analysis of variance (ANOVA) test, chi-square test, Friedman test, and Kruskal-Wallis one-way analysis test were used to analyze the data. Results: A total of 71 participants remained and continued the study, and 56% were married. The participants’ mean age and mean work history were 35.78 ± 3.94 and 11.65 ± 5.10 years, respectively. The mean of overtime work in the month was 35.67 ± 23.85 hours. There were no significant differences between the three groups before intervention (T0) and one month after intervention (T2), although the mean scores of the aerobic and yoga groups were reduced, compared to the control group. Immediately after intervention (T1), a significant difference was observed in emotional exhaustion (P = 0.007, Df = 2, Kruskal-Wallis x2 = 10.016, size effect = 0.95 - 2.26). The mean score of emotional exhaustion in the yoga group (23.13 ± 4.13) was reduced compared to the aerobic (36.00 ± 5.65) and control (38.44 ± 10.96) groups. Conclusions: Both yoga and aerobics reduced burnout, compared to the control group. Yoga was better than aerobics in the emotional exhaustion dimension. Although further research is needed to compare these two interventions, using each of them can reduce the burnout of nurses. Nursing managers can use yoga as an effective method to reduce job burnout. For future research, it is suggested to use other yoga techniques with longer intervention time and long-term follow-up.

Psychometric properties of the Maslach Burnout Inventory in healthcare professionals, Ancash Region, Peru

Background Burnout syndrome (BS) among healthcare professionals in Peru demands immediate attention. Consequently, there is a need for a validated and standardized instrument to measure and address it effectively. This study aimed to determine the psychometric properties of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) among healthcare professionals in the Ancash region of Peru. Methods Using an instrumental design, this study included 303 subjects of both sexes (77.56% women), ranging in age from 22 to 68 years (M = 44.46, SD = 12.25), selected via purposive non-probability sampling. Appropriate content validity, internal structure validity, and item internal consistency were achieved through confirmatory factor analysis, and discriminant validity for the three dimensions was obtained. Evidence of convergent validity was found for the Emotional Exhaustion (EE) and Personal Accomplishment (PA) dimensions, with reliability values (ω > .75). Results The EE and PA dimensions exhibited acceptable levels of reliability (ω and α > .80). However, the Depersonalization (DP) dimension demonstrated significantly lower reliability (α < .60 and ω < .50). Conclusions A correlated three-factor model was confirmed, with most items presenting satisfactory factor loadings and inter-item correlations. Nonetheless, convergent validity was not confirmed for the DP dimension.

Work-family conflict among primary health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic: Its mediating role in the relationship between workload and job burnout.

This study explores the situation of workload, work-family conflict and job burnout among primary health workers in China in the context of COVID-19 and identifies the mediating effect of work-family conflict between workload and job burnout. Since the breakout of the COVID-19 pandemic, primary health workers have been working on the frontline of the epidemic and may experience increasing workload, work-family conflict and job burnout. It is important to focus on the issue of how to alleviate job burnout of primary health workers. A cross-sectional study (STROBE) was used. Data were collected from 785 primary health workers in China. Multiple regression analysis was used to examine the mediating effect of work-family conflict between workload and job burnout. 18.7%, 10.4% and 39.5% of respondents had high job burnout in the dimensions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment, respectively. 34.6% of the respondents had high or very high workload, and 12.8% of the respondents had high or very high work-family conflict. Results of multiple regression analysis indicated that work-family conflict mediated the relationship between workload and job burnout. Workload (β = .163, CI = .207-.549) and work-family conflict (β = .211, CI = .311-.640) positively influenced job burnout, and workload (β = .428, CI = .375-.508) positively influenced work-family conflict. The study indicated that primary health workers experienced a high level of job burnout, especially in the personal accomplishment dimension. Furthermore, this study verified the mediating effect of work-family conflict between workload and job burnout. Some interventions for alleviating workload, work-family conflict and job burnout should be taken, including workplace assistance programmes, family-friendly policies and a well-integrated healthcare system. This study does not involve patient or public contribution in any part. Nurses and other primary health workers are health gatekeepers of residents and play a vital role in the healthcare system. Due to the breakout of COVID-19, they have taken more work and are more vulnerable to work overload, work-family conflict and the consequent job burnout. Some interventions should be taken to effectively alleviate their job burnout and improve their health and performance.

The Influencing Factors and Mitigation Strategies of Seafarer Job Burnout

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the causes of seafarer burnout and the complex combination of causes that inspire burnout, and to provide a theoretical basis for mitigating seafarer burnout. Methods: This study used questionnaire method to survey 451 seafarer members. Then, the questionnaire data were statistically analyzed using SPSS26.0 software, and the job burnout influencing factors were explored by structural equation modeling using AMOS24.0. Third, a qualitative comparative analysis is used to explore the combination of factors that stimulate job burnout. Methods: The results of structural equation modeling showed that seafarer members' subjective well-being, general self-efficacy, and psychological resilience genera are all significantly negatively related to job burnout. Job demands are significantly negatively related to job burnout, job control negatively affects the decreased personal accomplishment dimension, and social support negatively affects the depersonalization and emotional exhaustion dimensions. Then, this study conducted a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis based on these six burnout influencing factors, and the results show that there are no necessary conditions leading to job burnout among the six antecedent variables and that there existed four combinations of conditions with high explanatory power for the formation of burnou. Finally, based on the findings of the study to alleviate seafarer burnout to provide management recommendations.

Is the fire even bigger? Burnout in 800 medical and nursing students in a low middle income country.

Burnout, characterized by emotional exhaustion (EX), depersonalization (DP), and a reduced sense of personal efficacy (PF) among medical and nursing students can lead to suicidal ideation, lack of empathy, and dropouts. Previous studies have used over-simplified definitions of burnout that fail to capture its complexity. We describe the prevalence of burnout profiles and its risk factors among medical and nursing students. A cross sectional study was conducted at a tertiary care University Hospital in Pakistan. The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) survey was disseminated via SurveyMonkey over a period of 4 months (November 2019 to February 2020) to 482 Medical and 441 nursing students. The MBI tool measures the dimensions of EX, DP, and PF to describe seven burnout profiles. Multivariable regression was used to identify predictors of burnout. The response rate was 92% in nursing and 87.3% in medical students. The prevalence of burnout in medical and nursing students was 16.9% and 6.7% respectively (p<0.001), with 55.7% (n = 427) suffering from at least one burnout profile. Only 32.5% (n = 250) students felt engaged, (42.3% medical, 22.7% nursing students, p<0.001). The most common profile was ineffective (32.5%, n = 250), characterized by a reduced sense of personal efficacy (35.6% medical, 29.4% nursing students; p = 0.065). Medical students were at higher risk of burnout compared to nursing students (OR = 2.49 [1.42, 4.38]; p<0.001) with highest risk observed in year 4 (OR = 2.47 [1.02, 5.99]; p = 0.046). Other risk factors for burnout included occasional drug use (OR = 1.83 [1.21, 8.49]; p = 0.017) and living in a hostel (OR = 1.64 [1.01,2.67]; p = 0.233). Two-thirds of our participants experienced at least one dimension of burnout with the highest prevalence of a reduced sense of PF. Drivers of burnout unique to a lower-middle-income country need to be understood for effective interventions. Faculty training on principles of student evaluation and feedback may be beneficial.

Examination of Science Teachers’ Burnout Levels in Terms of School Climate and Various Variables

The burnout levels of science teachers hold significant implications for both educators and students. Burnout can evolve in response to significant social events or be influenced by various variables. In this context, the objective of this study is to examine the burnout levels of science teachers, taking into account factors such as gender, age, length of service, and working time in the institution, with a particular focus on the perception of the school climate. The study adopted a descriptive survey model, utilizing a convenience sampling method, and involved 182 science teachers employed in Adana province. Data collection instruments encompassed the “School Climate Survey” and the “Maslach Burnout Inventory”, along with their sub-dimensions. Data were gathered through a face-to-face survey conducted by one of the researchers following rigorous efforts. The results showed that the burnout levels of science teachers were relatively low. In addition, when evaluated in general in terms of all the variables examined, it was determined that all averages in the dimension of emotional exhaustion, one of the three sub-dimensions of burnout, were always higher, while the values in the dimension of depersonalization were always lower. Although it varied according to gender, age, length of service, and working time in the institution, it was found that burnout differed either in the overall scale or in at least one sub-dimension. Notably, science teachers with a low perception of the school climate experienced significantly higher burnout levels across the overall school climate scale, encompassing all sub-dimensions of burnout. While this pattern varied within sub-dimensions of school climate perception, dimensions exhibiting significant differences also favored those with lower climate perception. In the final section of the study, various recommendations are presented in light of these findings.

Burnout, moral injury, and suicidal/self-harm ideation among healthcare professionals in Mainland China: Insights from an online survey during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This survey explored the relationships between burnout, moral injury, and suicidal/self-harm ideation among Chinese health professionals in mainland China. Health professionals were surveyed online using the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey for Medical Personnel, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and the Moral Injury Symptom Scale-Health Professional version. A total of 6,146 health professionals participated in the study. The average age of participants was 34.9 ± 8.5years, and suicidal/self-harm ideation was present in 2,338 participants (38.0%). The prevalence of suicidal/self-harm ideation was more common among those with severe burnout (vs. mild burnout), particularly in the dimensions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and decreased personal accomplishment. The prevalence of suicidal/self-harm ideation among those with significant moral injury symptoms was higher than in those without moral injury. Unconditional logistic regression analysis demonstrated that those with moderate or severe emotional exhaustion, moderate or severe reduced sense of professional accomplishment, and moderate or severe depersonalization were at increased risk of suicidal/self-harm ideation.Structural equation modelling demonstrated that burnout significantly mediated the relationship between moral injury and suicidal/self-harm ideation. The proportion of mediation (PM) by burnout was 43.0%. This study found that burnout and moral injury were significant predictors of suicidal/self-harm ideation among health professionals in China. Both moral injury and burnout had positive and direct effects on suicidal/self-harm ideation, and burnout mediated the relationship between moral injury and suicidal/self-harm ideation. Interventions to address moral injury and subsequent burnout in Chinese healthcare workers may enhance the mental health of these healthcare professionals and increase the quality of care that they provide.

The Reliability of Maslach Burnout Inventory in Arab Studies: Reliability Generalization Meta-Analyses Study

The current study aimed to identify the mean effect size of the alpha coefficient for the overall reliability of the MBI scale, and for the sub-dimensions; Emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and lack of personal achievement through the analysis of (32) studies in which the inclusion criteria were met. The results of the research indicated that the mean alpha coefficient across the studies (n = 32) for overall reliability and dimensions; Emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and lack of personal achievement were 0.83, 0.83, 0.78, and 0.77, respectively. It indicated that the mean alpha coefficient of the MBI scale varied significantly according to the participants in favor of school principals, and according to gender in favor of the mixed (male/female), and according to the country of application for studies conducted in North and East African countries, while it did not vary according to the sample size. It also showed that the mean alpha coefficient of the emotional exhaustion dimension varied according to the participants in favor of the teachers. The results also showed that there were no differences in the mean alpha coefficient of the dimension of emotional exhaustion according to the factors of sample size, gender, and country of application, and indicated that there were no significant differences in the mean alpha coefficient of the dimensions of depersonalization and lack of personal achievement according to the factors of sample size, participants, gender and country of application.
