Webtoon is a cartoon implemented in a digital virtual world, and its narrative structure and expression method are similar to cartoons, but unlike cartoons based on paper media, it is based on digital media, that is, mechanical operation of a monitor and mouse, and touch of tablets and smartphones. Based on screen manipulation, it provides more diverse usability and experiences, such as vertical scrolling, time concept, sound, animation effects, division of cells, use of CG, generalization of color use, and augmented reality. Here, romance, fantasy, and comic/gags were selected among the various genres of webtoons, and the backgrounds were compared and analyzed to reveal that the use of the background was different for each genre. In other words, romance mainly uses realistic backgrounds to enhance the realism and immersion of the love story, fantasy mainly uses unrealistic backgrounds to provide an experience of a world that cannot be experienced in reality, and comic/gags are based on the words of the characters and A brief and simplified background is used to draw attention to the action. This can be said to effectively provide the experience of love, the experience of this world, and the control of unexpectedness that each genre pursues. The background does not simply represent a place, but functions as a device to reinforce the purpose and atmosphere of the genre.

This study aims to classify and define video content according to composite shooting methods to minimize confusion becauseXR and virtual production are used interchangeably in video content production sites without a distinction of terms.XR Studio (or Stage)—a video compositing system that combines the physical reality world with the digital virtual world—and Virtual Production are video compositing technologies that use the same software, rendering technology, real-time engines, and media technology systems that are synchronized to the LED wall. Communication at the video content production site is therefore unclear. Although XR Studio and Virtual Production are connected and may use some of the same technologies, they are ultimately separate entities. XR Studio and Virtual Production should be used separately,depending on the type of video content being produced. This study examines the similarities and differences in the technical approaches of XR and virtual production systems and presents a classification of video content according to the use of XR and virtual production.

With this system, farmers can monitor the health of their animals in real time without having to visit the barns, and analyze the data collected through sensors and cameras for more efficient agricultural management. In addition, the barn environment can be adjusted through a remote control function, which is expected to reduce labor and revitalize the livestock industry.

Blurring of boundaries: Consumer self‐narratives in digital virtual leisure

AbstractThis article examines digital virtual leisure and the impact of increasingly blurred boundaries between the digital and physical worlds on consumer self‐narratives. Using an extended case narrative method, the present research explores how consumers who are highly involved with digital leisure live out their ideal self‐narrative in online communities. The findings highlight a level of complexity and fluidity when consumers move between worlds. The present research shows a more multifaceted set of issues that consumers traverse when moving between the physical and digital worlds. This research indicates the changing nature of the self‐narrative for consumers in an ever‐evolving environment that blurs the distinction between the digital and physical worlds. Results suggest that the digital virtual world (those online environments using digital technologies and virtual which has a sensory element) can serve as a sanctuary for consumers to gain empowerment and sustain hope. Digital virtual leisure is a highly involved form of consumption layered with meaning for individuals. The findings highlight the potential and opportunity to use self‐narratives as a way to understand consumer involvement with online community spaces so as to better respond to and engage with the consumer target market.

Introduction of Metaverse to Our Lives and Unlimited Services in the World of Metaverse

Metaverse is a universe that combines our physical reality with the digital virtual world and goes beyond reality with multiple users with a permanent and lasting effect. The virtual world is based on digital people and objects and technologies that enable multi-sensory communication with people, such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). It provides highly professional communication in dynamic interactions between digital structures and real time. First, we encountered virtual worlds where avatars could teleport between them. Metaverse’s resurgence has come with social, immersive VR platforms compatible with multiplayer online video games, open game worlds, and AR co-working spaces. Metaverse is a concept that offers opportunities to create virtual communities in the commercial or beyond entertainment world; It is seen that it is a new generation platform that includes the three-dimensional sandbox where metaverse enthusiasts can interact through their avatars and is expressed as the “digital big bang” in cyberspace.

Subject Validity Issues and Potential Solutions in the Era of Metaverse–Starting with the Concern Over Property Rights in Crypto Art

In a pre-digital epoch, humans possessed the material means of production through material labor, which allowed them to exercise subjective agency and establish their existence as subjects through the acquisition of property rights. As digital technology has advanced, our digital being now forms an integral element of our fundamental human existence. In the age of the “metaverse,” we must confront and provide an answer to the topic of how to thrive better in the digital virtual world. The rise of Crypto Art, now imbued with a tangible worth by the incorporation of Blockchain technology and Non-Fungible Tokens in the artistic sphere, has opened new vistas for us to verify our subjects within the “metaverse”, thereby securing the liberty of our digital existence. However, crypto art, as digital labor under the techno-capitalist system, inevitably brings about the problem of alienation of digital laborers and their products, impacting the vulnerable subjects in the “metauniverse”. The communitarian mechanism and spirit of consensus inherent within the blockchain present potential pathways towards resolution. In addressing this predicament, crypto art must first transform into a societal intermediary committed to fostering a community centered around the sharing of digital resources. This would empower digital workers to genuinely possess their labor and acquire property rights on a public and communal platform, ultimately leading to the restoration of subjectivity.

Application of 3D Digital Modeling Technology in the Construction of Digital Cities

The concepts of “digital twins”, “3D real scene”, “metacosm” and others were the technical paths for building digital cities with the development of emerging surveying and mapping science and technology, which was to build a digital and virtualized city that matched the real physical world, to achieve a one-to-one correspondence between all elements of the physical world and the digital virtual world. This paper expounded the technical route and production process of 3D digital modeling, in order to provide technical references for related projects.

Today, the concept of ‘Metaverse’ is emerging as a ‘virtual coexistence world’. The metaverse is receiving social attention as an alternative space to the real world and is being widely applied in everyday life. However, unlike in the economic and social fields, policies that utilize the potential of the digital virtual world realized by Metaverse in diplomatic terms are still limited. As an alternative to overcome the limitations of traditional diplomatic methods, we need to review the metaverse so that it can be used more actively. In other words, it is necessary to discuss the potential and scope of use of metaverse-based diplomacy as an approach that overcomes the limitations of limited reality and discovers new areas of possibility, not simply as an auxiliary means of traditional diplomacy. In particular, it is good to actively seek the possibility of application in issues with high geopolitical uncertainty and wide-ranging international sanctions, such as the issue of inter-Korean cooperation. The metaverse world provides a clue to overcome some of these realistic limitations. This is because, in the metaverse space, where non-face-to-face and two-way communication is possible, the burden of complex pre-requisites for direct exchange can be reduced, and topics for culture, knowledge, and friendship can be made widely through various actors not only in the government but also in the private sector. Exploring the inter-Korean non-face-to-face exchange space can be said to be a practical task for realizing metaverse diplomacy from our point of view.

The effect of logistical immediacy on logistics service providers' (LSPs') business

PurposeThis study discusses the influence of logistical immediacy on logistics service providers' (LSPs’) business. Specifically, its role in the face of the emerging business scenario (e-commerce, disruptive technologies, and new models of logistical services) is examined.Design/methodology/approachAs logistical immediacy is a nascent topic, this study utilizes a systematic literature review focusing on academic articles from the last five years related to logistical outsourcing to understand the changes imposed by logistical immediacy on LSPs.FindingsThe impact of transformations arising from an increasingly digital virtual world (DVW) on LSPs is contextualized. A theoretical view of the factors affecting LSPs' shift towards more immediate operations is presented, and how logistical immediacy impacts LSPs is discussed. Finally, a research agenda is presented as the study's main contribution.Research limitations/implicationsDue to the timeframe chosen, the restriction to a single database (Scopus), the specific search terms used related to LSPs, and limiting the search parameters to operations management, some relevant work may have been overlooked.Practical implicationsThe article help LSPs' and contracting companies' managers to understand the influence of the immediacy expected in logistics operations. Possible logistics services trends and how they may impact companies are discussed.Originality/valueThis is one of the first articles in the area of operations and supply chains that addresses the issue of logistical immediacy and its impact on LSPs.

The Ontological Role of Applied Mathematics in Virtual Worlds

In this paper, I will argue that with the emergence of digital virtual worlds (in video games, animation movies, etc.) by the animation industry, we need to rethink the role and authority of mathematics, also from an ontological point of view. First I will demonstrate that the application of mathematics to the creation and description of the digital, virtual worlds behaves in many respects analogously to the application of mathematics to the description of real-world phenomena from the viewpoint of the history of science. However, from other aspects, the application of mathematics significantly differs in this virtual world from the application to real-world fields. The main thesis of my paper is that the role of mathematics in the digital animation industry can be ontologically different from its usual role. In the application of mathematics to digital virtual worlds, mathematical concepts are no longer just modelling tools, forming a subordinated, computational basis, but they can direct and organise, and even create non-mathematical theory, something that we can call, for example, digital physics and biology. I will study this new, creative role of mathematics through some concrete phenomena, specifically through gravity. Our conclusion is that the animation industry opens an entirely new chapter in the relationship between (digital) sciences and mathematics.

STUDY OF BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY, AI AND DIGITAL NETWORKING IN METAVERSE

The phrase "Metaverse" has grabbed the imagination of younger generations. The Metaverse seamlessly merges the physical and virtual worlds, allowing avatars to engage in a variety of activities such as creation, exhibition, entertainment, social networking, and commerce. The metaverse will be enabled, populated, and sustained by artificial intelligence (AI). The Metaverse will be developed with augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), as well as AI, digital networks, and blockchains. Meta is well-known for its work in artificial intelligence and algorithmic development. Artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies are poised to play important roles in the ever-expanding metaverse. Metaverse, for example, uses artificial intelligence, a digital network, and blockchain to build a digital virtual world in which anybody may participate securely and freely activities that are social and economic in nature but do not take place in the physical world.

Noting the insufficient theoretical substantiation of attempts to impose on modern law any special characteristics arising from the widespread development of digital technologies, the authors admit that in the era of virtual reality, the laws of the digital virtual world begin to actively compete with the laws of nature. This entails a slight decrease in the role of law as a traditional regulator of social relationships. However, according to the authors, one should not artificially diminish the role of law even in the era of digitalization. In this regard, the paper discusses the main trends in the study of legal digitalization processes. The first trend is due to the need to promptly respond by legal means to the emergence of new areas of legal regulation caused by the widespread use of digital information technologies. The second trend assumes the expansion and rethinking of the subject and object of legal science within the context that new digital "participants" of legal relations born due to intelligent human activity emerge.

Digital university as an integrative methodological construct

The coronavirus pandemic has actualized the digital transition of universities. At the same time, it introduced an element of chaos. Educational policy also played a role here. At this stage, there is a contradiction that has arisen between the fragmentation of interpretations and the need to develop a digital university model. This determines the need for structuring the methodological construct of a digital university, which will allow developing not only a theoretical methodology that allows more focused theoretical and applied research, but also a practical methodology that makes it possible to more rationally structure a set of techniques and tools to achieve the goal of practical implementation of the digital transformation of universities and higher education. The author of the article formulated the methodological construct of a digital university as an integrative phenomenon. A digital university is a combination of four interdependent elements: a teaching format; digital environment; digital resources; digital platform. The digital format is a form of combining digital technologies (in what form the interaction takes place) and at the same time content (which is an act of interaction, the content itself). The digital environment is a space, a place (where interaction takes place). Digital resources are tools for activating the idea of a digital university (what the participants use). A digital platform is an algorithm, a way to implement the idea of a digital university (how interaction is embodied) and, at the same time, a platform for interaction (within which structure the interaction takes place). The article shows that a digital university cannot be interpreted solely as a twin of a "physical" university, since digital technologies allow creating new conditions, making changes in the real environment, organizing processes, both teaching and management. At the same time, the "physical" university, existing in the real, not the virtual world, is a whole space in which technical and human resources are placed. In other words, it is impossible to talk about the concept of a digital university only from the standpoint of the digital (virtual) world, or from the standpoint of only the technical infrastructure.

Special attention is paid to the institution of digital (informational) rights and freedoms of citizens, as well as "traditional" individual rights in the new digital virtual reality. The paper draws conclusions about the possibilities and prospects of further legal regulation in the sphere of digital (information) legal relations and artificial intelligence, as well as the influence of information technology development processes on legal processes in general.

МЕТОДОЛОГИЧЕСКИЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ ПРАВОСОЗНАНИЯ В ЭПОХУ ПРАВОВОЙ ЦИФРОВИЗАЦИИ

The article analyzes the change in ideas about law in the era of digitalization. Noting the insufficient theoretical validity of attempts to impose any special characteristics on modern law stemming from the widespread development of digital technologies, the author admits that in the era of virtual reality, the laws of the digital virtual world begin to actively compete with the laws of nature, which entails some decrease in the role of law as a traditional regulator of public relationship. However, according to the author, one should not artificially downplay the role of law even in the digital age. In this regard, the article discusses the main trends in the study of legal digitalization processes. The first trend is due to the need to promptly respond by legal means to the emergence of new areas of legal regulation caused by the widespread dissemination of digital information technologies. The second trend involves the expansion and rethinking of the subject and object of legal science in the context of the emergence of new digital participants in legal relations generated by intelligent human activity. In this regard, the author dwells on the most relevant conceptual and practical problems of using digital technologies in the processes of lawmaking and law enforcement, in the context of various approaches to law enforcement. Special attention is paid to the institute of digital (information) rights and freedoms of citizens, as well as to the traditional rights of an individual in the new digital virtual reality. The paper draws conclusions about the possibilities and prospects of further legal regulation of the field of digital (information) legal relations and artificial intelligence, as well as the impact of information technology development processes on legal processes in general. Key points: 1) the emergence of new digital spheres of legal regulation, in a situation where the traditional elements of state, public and private life, to one degree or another, pass into the digital virtual space, poses new challenges to the law, however, their solution should be based on traditional general legal approaches; 2) digitalization has seriously changed the face of written (positive) law, its accessibility, relevance and ways of perception, however, the positive law has not received conceptually new regulatory functions in this regard, nor has it lost its ability to influence the regulation of certain traditional public areas relationship; 3) today the legal functionality of digital electronic algorithms is clearly limited by the limits of the auxiliary and organizational support function; 4) a shift in emphasis in legal regulation from the achievements of legal science to the achievements of information (technical) science can lead to partial or complete ignoring of the ethical, axiological and sociocultural aspects of law, which in turn can lead to the idea of digitalization of law as an element of coercion and oppression.

Online Role-playing Games and the Definition of Theatre

Online role-playing games are a form of entertainment in which players create characters and improvisationally perform scenes together within a digital virtual world. It has many theatre-like aspects, which raises the question of whether it is in fact a form of theatre. To answer that question, however, one must first have a definition of theatre – an issue with disciplinary consequences – and in this article Tobin Nellhaus develops a definition founded on social ontology, suggesting that theatrical performance, unlike other social practices, replicates society's ontology. From that perspective, online role-playing meets the definition of theatre. But its digital environment raises another set of problems, since embodiment, space, and presence in online role-playing are necessarily unlike what we experience in traditional theatre. Here, Nellhaus brings these three aspects of performance together through the concept of embodied social presence, showing how they operate in both customary theatre and online role-playing. Tobin Nellhaus is an independent scholar who was Librarian for Performing Arts, Media, and Philosophy at Yale University. He has published mainly on the relationship between theatre and communication practices, and on critical realist theory in theatre historiography. He is the General Editor of the third edition of Theatre Histories (London: Routledge, 2016), and the author of Theater, Communication, Critical Realism (New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2010).

De-Roling from Experiences and Identities in Virtual Worlds

Within dramatherapy and psychodrama, the term ‘de-roling’ indicates a set of activities that assist the subjects of therapy in ‘disrobing’ themselves from their fictional characters. Starting from the psychological needs and the therapeutic goals that ‘de-roling’ techniques address in dramatherapy and psychodrama, this text provides a broader understanding of procedures and exercises that define and ease transitional experiences across cultural practices such as religious rituals and spatial design. After this introductory section, we propose a tentative answer as to why game studies and virtual world research largely ignored processes of ‘roling’ and ‘de-roling’ that separate the lived experience of role-play from our everyday sense of the self. The concluding sections argue that de-roling techniques are likely to become more relevant, both academically and in terms of their practical applications, with the growing diffusion of virtual technologies in social practices. The relationships we can establish with ourselves and with our surroundings in digital virtual worlds are, we argue, only partially comparable with similar occurrences in pre-digital practices of subjectification. We propose a perspective according to which the accessibility and immersive phenomenological richness of virtual reality technologies are likely to exacerbate the potentially dissociative effects of virtual reality applications. This text constitutes an initial step towards framing specific socio-technical concerns and starting a timely conversation that binds together dramatherapy, psychodrama, game studies, and the design of digital virtual worlds.

A communicating object’s approach for smart logistics and safety issues in warehouses

A communicating object, or connected object, is a key element of the Internet of Things to shift a perceptible real world into a wide digital virtual world known as the cyber-physical system. Knowing that sustainability, safety, and logistic issues are among the significant goals and challenges of modern industrial enterprises, the communicating object can be a relevant concept to guarantee safety performance in logistics and warehouse management. This article presents the impacts and advantages of the communicating object in smart logistics and the design of a communicating object model inspired from Internet of Things European research projects, which controls and monitors safety risks in a hazardous and chemical industrial context. Generic safety-based scenarios are presented, which rely on a set of negotiated interaction mechanisms for storage and picking. The relevant deployment of intelligence in a warehouse management system leads to propose a new concept called “IoT-controlled Safe Area.” Our contribution is to bring informational, communicational, and decisional capabilities close to the warehousing physical world thanks to the communicating object. This enables achieving safety assurance with a decrease in the decision-making delay and an increase in the solving efficiency of local and dynamic disruptions, while avoiding inherent shortcomings of the warehouse management system centralization. For this, an industrial implementation is presented.

The Use of Virtual Worlds for Developing Intercultural Competences

In this research, the authors present a framework for developing Intercultural Competence (IC) and use Tridimensional Digital Virtual Worlds (3DVW) as environments for developing Intercultural Competence. They developed an artifact, via Design Research, constituted by an educational method using the 3DVW Second Life® as the place for a virtual exchange program between 92 Brazilian and Portuguese master students. The results of the authors' study indicate that the 3DVW can be used for the development of IC because it allows rich experiential and relational/conversational learning opportunities, especially due to the affordances of immersion/sense of presence, social interaction, content production and knowledge sharing.
