Factors Influencing the Continued Use of Procreate Digital Painting Software by Fine Arts Students in Chongqing, China

Background and Aim: With the rise of digital technology, digital painting software has become a tool for artistic expression. The purpose of this paper is to explore the factors that influence the continued use of Procreate digital painting software by undergraduate art students in Chongqing, China, through three major theories: ECM, UTAUT 2, SCT, and other modeling frameworks. Materials and Methods: This study adopted a quantitative approach to data collection using a five-point Likert scale for the questionnaire. The sample of this study was undergraduate students of six fine arts programs in different regions of Chongqing, China, and the participants were selected through a Judgmental or purposive sampling technique. The instrument used to collect the data was a questionnaire and the data were analyzed on 487 valid questionnaires, CFA and SEM were executed to validate the fit, validity, and reliability of the model and to confirm the causality between the variables for hypothesis testing. Results: All hypotheses were supported, with perceived usefulness and satisfaction as direct influences. self-efficacy had the most significant effect on perceived usefulness. Conclusion: Key factors influencing Chongqing art students' continued use of Procreate digital drawing software include hedonic motivation, confirmation, self-efficacy, and knowledge application, which together contribute to students' continuance intention to use the software by enhancing satisfaction and perceived usefulness. This study provides new perspectives for understanding the use of digital drawing software in art education, offers insights for educational institutions to optimize digital strategies for art education, helps software developers to improve product functionality, and guides art students to make more effective use of digital tools for art creation, thus promoting the in-depth application and development of digital drawing technology in the art field.

Through a comparative approach, the research aims to identify the ways in which the advertising artist Kirill Chudinskiy (the 2008 Volkswagen AG advertising campaign) interprets the imagery of René Magritte’s work “The Son of Man” and to discover the main means of representing the cultural meanings of the classical painting in the advertising product. The paper examines the features of Chudinskiy’s creative interpretation of the images of the classic painting masterpiece, as well as various means of artistic representation (allusion, symbol, allegory, depersonalization, antithesis, anthropomorphism), which help create the image of the advertising reality. The scientific novelty of the research is accounted for by the fact that the comparative approach to studying an advertising product (poster) allows for deciphering the content of the cultural dialogue between a contemporary artist and the legacy of the past; revealing the aesthetic value of a digital painting; and identifying affective techniques used in the process of creating a mass product and provoking the consumer to perceive the experience of classical art through the discovery of cultural text structures. In addition, the studied advertising product of 2008 by Volkswagen AG has not previously been the focus of researchers’ attention. As a result, it was found that, firstly, the interpretation of the image of the central character in Magritte’s work allows the advertising artist to create a hero of his time, expose his vices, while simultaneously engaging the viewer in an intertextual dialogue. Secondly, by offering his own compositional solutions in the poster, Chudinskiy, to some extent, provokes the viewer, ironically commenting on the subordination of modern people to the world of things, while simultaneously encouraging the viewer to acquire a thing, i.e., a product, through advertising. Thirdly, by transforming the images of the sky, the sea, and man, which are symbolic on the canvas of the Belgian surrealist, Chudinskiy, on the one hand, actualizes the reality of the advertising product, and on the other hand, inspires the recipients with the idea that they will become part of this reality the moment they acquire the product. Fourthly, the creator’s intellectual game with the recipient through the work of art encourages the consumer to decipher the cultural text, i.e., to engage in cognitive activity, relying on knowledge, associations, and memory.

The Influence of AI Painting on Traditional Digital Painting and Comparative Analysis of the Advantages and Disadvantages

With the emergence and development of computer technology, digital technologies such as image processing, image editing, image synthesis, and digital painting have become increasingly mature. After entering the computer age, they have also become a new media technology, and with the progress of digital technology, corresponding diverse branches have continuously emerged. As the influence of modern and contemporary art gradually expands, the public's mastery of digital technology gradually matures, and artists also begin to create art through digital technology and other forms. This paper first analyzes the background and rise of digital painting, and then compares and analyzes the differences between digital painting and traditional painting. Then, it analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the application of AI painting in the field of art and the use process. Finally, the irreplaceability of digital painting is summarized. Although artificial intelligence has brought some convenience in painting and reduced the amount of engineering brought by repeated painting, it cannot completely replace digital painting.

Visual‐Audio Thermoelectric Detectors for Images and Sound Recognition

AbstractInherent in humans is the capacity to perceive music and art, engaging both the visual and auditory senses, with profound effects on physiological and psychological states. Sound and light possess the remarkable ability to transform into thermal energy and, ultimately, electrical signals, playing a crucial role in human sensory perception. This research introduces a previously unmentioned synesthesia‐inspired image and sound recognition system, diverging from conventional image/sound acquisition techniques based on photo/mechanical‐electrical conversion. Leveraging the photo/acoustic‐thermal‐electric effects, the system utilizes micro‐/commercial thermoelectric devices as a conduit for energy conversion. It successfully discriminates monochromatic red, green, blue (RGB) and color coverage, showcasing its proficiency in distinguishing ten digital paintings. Additionally, by probing fiber responses to varied sound frequencies and loudness levels, the system achieves time‐domain identification of four classical music compositions. The device exhibits high sensitivity to detecting input energy and its inputting rate power, offering a novel approach to image and sound recognition through thermal signals. Potential applications span from bionic image sensors and time‐domain thermal monitoring of audio. With further exploration, this thermoelectric‐based system holds promise in quantifying emotional responses to images and sound.

Over the past few decades, the expansion of digital tools has significantly transformed the nature of art creation and distribution. This research traces the historical origins of digital art in India, focusing on how traditional artistic practices have adapted to change with technological advancements to create new forms and modes of art expression. The study provides insight into the new opportunities digital technology has opened up for art, including access to larger opportunities and global markets through online platforms and the ability to engage with new art forms such as digital painting, animation, and multimedia art. This expansion of art has provided artists with the opportunity to reach a wider audience and diversify their creative output. However, the research also highlights the significant challenges freelance artists face, as the art market today is increasingly facing threats to its survival due to a lack of resources, increasing competition, and digital reproduction.Additionally, the research examines the impact that the technology sector is having on traditional art. The paper also examines the educational pathways available for aspiring digital artists in India and assesses the effectiveness of government policies and initiatives aimed at supporting the digital arts sector. It also provides practical insights for freelance artists to pursue an emerging market and enhance their professional success. Overall, the study presents a comprehensive analysis of how digital technology has reshaped freelance art in India, examines both the benefits and barriers presented in this dynamic sector, and suggests potential directions for future development.

Construction of a painting image classification model based on AI stroke feature extraction

Abstract A large number of digital painting image resources cannot be directly converted into electronic form due to their differences in painting techniques and poor preservation of paintings. Moreover, the difficulty of extracting classification features can also lead to the consumption of human time and misclassification problems. The aim of this research is to address the challenges of converting various digital painting image resources into electronic form and the difficulties of accurately extracting classification features. The goal is to improve the usefulness and accuracy of painting image classification. Converting various digital painting image resources directly into electronic format and accurately extracting classification features are challenging due to differences in painting techniques and painting preservation, as well as the complexity of accurately extracting classification features. Overcoming these adjustments and improving the classification of painting features with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques is crucial. The existing classification methods have good applications in different fields. But their research on painting classification is relatively limited. In order to better manage the painting system, advanced intelligent algorithms need to be introduced for corresponding work, such as feature recognition, image classification, etc. Through these studies, unlabeled classification of massive painting images can be carried out, while guiding future research directions. This study proposes an image classification model based on AI stroke features, which utilizes edge detection and grayscale image feature extraction to extract stroke features; and the convolutional neural network (CNN) and support vector machine are introduced into image classification, and an improved LeNet-5 CNN is proposed to achieve comprehensive assurance of image feature extraction. Considering the diversity of painting image features, the study combines color features with stroke features, and uses weighted K-means clustering algorithm to extract sample features. The experiment illustrates that the K-CNN hybrid model proposed in the study achieved an accuracy of 94.37% in extracting image information, which is higher than 78.24, 85.69, and 86.78% of C4.5, K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), and Bi directional Long short-term Memory (BiLSTM) algorithms. In terms of image classification information recognition, the algorithms with better performance from good to poor are: the mixed model > BiLSTM > KNN > C4.5 model, with corresponding accuracy values of 0.938, 0.897, 0.872, and 0.851, respectively. And the number of fluctuation nodes in the mixed model is relatively small. And the sample search time is significantly shorter than other comparison algorithms, with a maximum recognition accuracy of 92.64% for the style, content, color, texture, and direction features of the image, which can effectively recognize the contrast and discrimination of the image. This method effectively provides a new technical means and research direction for digitizing image information.

Realization of Urban Perception Art: Painting Expressions of Internet of Things Technologies in Urban Environments

INTRODUCTION: With the continuous progress of urbanization, people's perceptions and experiences of the urban environment are increasingly concerned. Traditional forms of artistic expression can no longer fully meet people's needs for urban perception. Therefore, it is especially important to explore new possibilities of urban perception art with the help of modern technology, especially intelligent technology.OBJECTIVES: The main purpose of this study is to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of utilizing advanced technology for urban perception art expression. Through an in-depth understanding of the urban environment and the perceptual needs of urban residents, as well as existing technological means, artistic expressions that can present urban perceptions more intuitively and vividly are developed.METHODS: This study adopts a combination of field research and art practice. Through urban observation and questionnaire surveys, the subjective experience and needs of urban residents for urban perception were collected. Then, using digital painting and video technology, combined with the principles of perception psychology, urban perception works with artistic and technological senses were designed.RESULTS: A series of urban perception artworks were designed in this study, covering all aspects of urban life, including architectural landscapes, transportation scenes, and humanistic customs. These works enable viewers to perceive the urban environment in a more intuitive and immersive way through digital painting and video technology, as well as real-time data and perceptual feedback.CONCLUSION: By exploring new ways of artistic expression of urban perception, this study provides urban residents with a richer and deeper experience of urban perception. The application of digital painting and video technology, as well as the interaction and feedback with urban residents, opens up new possibilities for the development of urban perceptual art.

Digitization of myth: The HimmapanVR Project's role in cultural preservation

This study investigates the visitor experience at the '3D HimmapanVR' virtual museum, which focuses on the preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage related to Thai mythical entities, specifically the Himmapan animals. Despite their cultural significance, information about these creatures is limited and fragmented. The HimmapanVR initiative aims to mitigate this issue by establishing a virtual museum that curates and exhibits these entities via a virtual reality (VR) platform, thus enhancing their accessibility, educational value, and conservation. The project entails the digitization of artwork, the creation of 3D models of archaeological artifacts, and the utilization of digital paintings and animations to depict the three primary and fifteen subsidiary types of Himmapan creatures. The hypothesis posits that the virtual museum will influence users' Effort Expectancy (EE), Performance Expectancy (PE), and the perceived authenticity of the archaeological objects. Data collected from 30 participants indicate that the virtual museum effectively augments knowledge and engenders a sense of authenticity. However, enhancing the VR user experience remains a challenge. Conclusively, this study presents the inaugural virtual museum dedicated to Himmapan animals, which occupy an essential niche in Thai cultural heritage. To date, no existing physical or virtual museum offers an exhaustive compilation and presentation of various Himmapan creatures, a gap this project endeavors to fill.

Cloud Based Ccmc Model for Application of Genetic Algorithm Based on Cloud Computing in Art Product Design

Art design has entered a new era with the integration of cloud computing technology, revolutionizing the creative process and expanding artistic possibilities. By leveraging the vast computational power and storage capabilities of cloud platforms, artists can explore innovative techniques, collaborate with peers remotely, and access a wealth of digital resources from anywhere in the world. Cloud computing enables artists to work with large-scale datasets, create complex visualizations, and render high-resolution artworks with ease. Moreover, cloud-based tools and applications offer flexibility and scalability, allowing artists to experiment freely and iterate rapidly. Whether creating digital paintings, 3D animations, or interactive installations, cloud computing empowers artists to push the boundaries of their creativity and bring their visions to life in ways previously unimaginable. This paper presents an innovative application of genetic algorithm (GA) leveraging cloud computing technology for art product design, with a focus on the Centralized Clustering Middle Chain (CCMC) framework. By harnessing the computational power and scalability of cloud platforms, GA facilitates the optimization of design parameters to generate novel and aesthetically pleasing art products. The CCMC framework streamlines the design process by centralizing data clustering and analysis, enabling efficient exploration of design space and identification of optimal solutions. Through simulated experiments and empirical evaluations, the effectiveness of the GA-based approach in art product design is assessed. Results demonstrate significant improvements in design quality and efficiency, with the GA-enabled cloud computing solution achieving a 40% reduction in design iteration time and a 30% increase in product innovation compared to traditional methods.

CONTEMPORARY INDIAN WOMEN ARTISTS AS DIGITAL SOCIAL COMMENTATORS ON WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT

In recent years, there has been a rapid increase in the number of Indian women artists harnessing digital platforms to critique and engage with societal norms surrounding gender equality and women’s empowerment. Being active participants on digital platforms they are strongly addressing issues related to women’s rights by socially commentating through their art. Digital platforms encourage global audiences and international access to artworks that enable artists to amplify their content through active social media engagement. Social media platforms are powerful mediums of connection that encourage the boosting of young talent to reach diverse audiences through their exhilarating art pieces. These women artists are presenting themselves and letting out their voice through art campaigns, projects, series, installations, 3D artworks, crypto, digital paintings, etc. to bring to the forefront topics such as gender bias, patriarchy, violence against females, stereotyping, inclusivity, sexuality, consent, body shaming, feminine perfection, female beauty standards and so on. They are motivated to present to the women of India, the need to be aware of the challenges and threats imposed on their identity as the society in which they live is at the turn of acknowledging a new age that is ready to offer acceptance and equality to women on the terms of their fight and struggle of pushing the system forward from the dead asleep. The digital artworks of a senior contemporary women artist and a young digital social commentator will be discussed in the paper to present a richer and more comprehensive understanding of the socio-political issues addressed through the artistic journey of these two artists belonging to different age groups.

Improving Students' Drawing Skills with Digital Tools: A Case Study from Zhengzhou, China

Computer art has recently become a vital part of the artistic process of creating digital versions of illustrations. Digital painting is an example. It has become a new phenomenon in Chinese art, transforming technique, aesthetics and culture. Thus, this study determines the impact of digital tools on the digital painting skills of students with different painting levels. The study involved 90 students from the Zhengzhou Preschool Education College in China. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a single-group pre-test/post-test design. The research findings indicated that there were improvements in painting skills for the groups with poor and medium achievements. The considered painting skills included composition, colour theory, interpretation and creativity. The resulting data validate the positive impact of digital tools on learning and creating paintings. The research described in this article is valuable for creating and implementing innovative courses in digital painting. Future studies should focus on the design and development of computer-aided painting courses and their impact on art students.

The hand gesture paint application represents an innovative venture in the realm of computer vision, harnessing the capabilities of the MediaPipe library and OpenCV to develop a sophisticated painting tool driven by hand gestures. By leveraging these powerful frameworks, the application enables users to express their creativity through intuitive gestures captured by a webcam. At its core, the work seeks to redefine the conventional painting experience by providing users with a seamless interface controlled entirely by hand movements. Through the integration of the MediaPipe library and OpenCV, users can effortlessly draw, erase, and switch between various drawing tools, all with the fluidity of natural hand gestures. By eliminating the need for traditional input devices, the hand gesture paint application offers a novel approach to digital art creation, empowering users to engage directly with their canvas in a more intuitive and immersive manner. Through this innovative blend of technology and creativity, the application opens up new avenues for artistic expression, inviting users to explore the boundless possibilities of digital painting through the simple movement of their hands.

Penggunaan Dampak Positif Terhadap Eksplorasi Kreativitas Literasi Digital Painting Canva Pembelajaran Puisi Kelas 5 SDN Gondek

This study aims to examine the use of Canva's digital painting platform in poetry learning for grade 5 students of SDN Gondek. The research methods used were observation, interviews, and document analysis to collect data related to the exploration of Canva's digital painting literacy creativity in poetry learning. The results showed that the use of Canva positively influenced students' exploration of creativity in understanding and expressing poetry. Students show great interest and enthusiasm in using Canva to illustrate their understanding of the poetry being studied. Thus, the use of technology in digital painting literacy can increase students' creativity in learning poetry at the elementary level.

The Development and Application of Computer-Assisted Painting Technology in the Convergence of Art and Technology

Abstract With the development of computer technology, digital painting has become more and more mature, which makes the whole creative process of painting more convenient, efficient, and diversified. This paper first introduces the definition, development history, and application of digital painting. A computerized painting model is created using knowledge representation, and the basic unit of the painting model is described. The paintbrush consists of hair filaments, each of which has its color tone and strokes. The brush’s movements are a result of position, pressure, and color tone, while the picture is a collection of strokes. Geometric transformations such as translation, rotation, and scaling are applied to the geometric information describing the strokes. This approach enables the simulation of painting effects, including the creation of scratches, color diffusion effects, texture mapping, and mutations on the strokes. This paper’s model enhances the painting skills of art students in six dimensions, achieving an efficiency evaluation score of 93 and a quality evaluation score of 96 in the abstract painting style. This model meets the realistic requirements for the advancement of computer-aided painting technology in art creation at a high level.

Region-Aware Color Smudging.

Color smudge operations from digital painting software enable users to create natural shading effects in high-fidelity paintings by interactively mixing colors. To precisely control results in traditional painting software, users tend to organize flat-filled color regions in multiple layers and smudge them to generate different color gradients. However, the requirement to carefully deal with regions makes the smudging process time-consuming and laborious, especially for non-professional users. This motivates us to investigate how to infer user-desired smudging effects when users smudge over regions in a single layer. To investigate improving color smudge performance, we first conduct a formative study. Following the findings of this study, we design SmartSmudge, a novel smudge tool that offers users dynamical smudge brushes and real-time region selection for easily generating natural and efficient shading effects. We demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed tool via a user study and quantitative analysis.
