High energy diffractive dissociation of pions and the A1

The diffractive dissociation of a pion into five pions via A 1 ϱ production is used to study the Drell-Hiida-Deck effect at very high energies. It is shown that the predicted cross section for diffractive dissociation violates unitarity, so that (absorptive) corrections must be taken into account.
