Incision in the base and indolebutyric acid to promote the rooting of 'Bengal' litchi cuttings

A alternative to producing litchi (Litchi sinensis Sonn.) seedlings is by cuttings. However, the main drawback of using this method is related to the difficulty of rooting presented by this species. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the rooting of semihardwood cuttings of litchi ‘Bengal’ at different concentrations of indolebutyric acid, with or without incision in the base. The experimental design was completely randomized with five replicates of 10 cuttings in a factorial 3X2 (three IBA concentrations: 0, 1.000 and 2.000 mg L-1; with or without incision in the base). After 126 days, the variables evaluated were: cutting survival, leaf retention, cutting with callus not rooted, rooted cutting, number of roots per cutting, length of major roots per cutting and dry weight of roots per cutting. For rooting, the IBA application was efficient only when the cuttings were not injured. In addition, there was no influence of the types of cuttings in the IBA concentrations. However, in those with incision at the base, the means were higher without the application of the plant growth regulator. Thus, the 'Bengal' litchi can be multiplied by semihardwood cuttings with incision at the base of the cuttings, without the use of IBA.

Vegetative and micropropagation potential of Piper guineense (Schumach and Thonn)

The continuous loss of forest plants due to deforestation, and the increasing demand for Piper guineense because of its medicinal and food value, has put a permanent pressure on its population in the wild where it is collected. A method for conservation and mass propagation is therefore required. This research was undertaken to determine the optimal concentration of auxin needed for vegetative propagation and to investigate the potential of Piper guineense for micropropagation. The auxin optimization study of vegetative propagation was based on the use of two-nodal stem cuttings treated with five different concentrations of indole-butyric acid (IBA). Growth parameters such as the number of sprouted, rooted and survived cuttings among others were determined. To investigate the potential of Piper guineense for micropropagation, nodal explants were subjected to different sterilizing treatments using ethanol, NaOCl, mancozeb, streptomycin and Plant Preservative Mixture (PPM). The effect of plant growth regulators (PGRs) was tested on sterilized nodal explants using full strength Murashige and Skoog (MS) hormone-free media alone as control and MS media supplemented with PGRs (BA, NAA and KIN) at different concentrations and combinations. Significant differences were observed across the treatments for all growth parameters measured. However, 2000 ppm IBA significantly (p<0.05) influenced sprouting and rooting of the stem cuttings. Piper guineense explants have deep tissue contaminants, which cannot be eradicated by surface sterilization alone except double sterilization using PPM. On control media, neither shoot nor root response was observed while the highest percentage of induced roots was obtained from explants cultured on MS +1 mg/L BA + 0.25 mg/L NAA. Shoot induction was only achieved when BA was used alone and when subcultured on media supplemented with NAA, which generated roots.

ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF INDOLE-3-BUTYRIC ACID (IBA) ON ROOTING EFFICIENCY IN CARNATION (DIANTHUS CARYOPHYLLUS L.) PROPAGATION UNDER PROTECTED CONDITIONS

The study aimed to assess the impact of varying Indole-3-Butyric Acid (IBA) concentrations on the rooting efficacy of Carnation (Dianthus Caryophyllus L.) cuttings within a controlled greenhouse setting. Different concentrations of IBA were applied to selected Carnation cultivars to stimulate root development. The greenhouse environment maintained controlled conditions, regulating temperature, humidity, and light to mimic optimal growth settings. The study focused on observing and analyzing rooting responses, particularly concerning root initiation, elongation, and biomass accumulation. Results indicated a distinct relationship between IBA concentrations and the rooting efficiency of Carnation cuttings. Lower concentrations displayed negligible effects on root development, while moderate concentrations significantly stimulated root initiation and elongation. Surprisingly, excessively high IBA concentrations led to reduced rooting responses, suggesting a hormetic effect on root growth. Morphological assessments highlighted that optimal IBA concentrations fostered vigorous root systems characterized by increased length, number, and mass of roots. This research underscores the pivotal role of precise IBA application in promoting successful rooting of Carnation cuttings, especially in controlled environments. The findings provide crucial insights for refining propagation techniques tailored specifically for Carnations, offering guidance to growers in optimizing IBA concentrations for efficient and sustainable cultivation practices in the floriculture industry. Further investigations delving into the prolonged impacts of IBA on overall plant growth and development would deepen the understanding derived from these findings.

Response of Indole 3 butyric acid during air layering on root and shoot induction behavior in Guava (Psidium guajava L) CV Sardar (L-49)

Air layering is practiced as it has assured to produce true to type plants and early and better rooting is observed when treated with Indole-3-butyric acid (IBA). A field experiment was conducted to study the Rooting and shooting behaviour in Guava (Psidium guajava L.) air layering under different concentrations of IBA during 2019 in guava orchard located at Maheru, Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, Punjab. A total of ten treatments with three replications comprising T1 –Control, T2- IBA@ 5 g, T3- IBA@ 6 g, T4- IBA@ 7 g, T5- IBA@ 8 g, T6- IBA@ 9 g, T7- IBA@ 10 g, T8- IBA@ 11 g, T9- IBA@ 12 g, T10- IBA@ 5000 ppm (Liquid) were applied. Thirteen observations of the root and shoot characters were recorded and analyzed in factorial design of RBD. The results indicated that IBA@ 8 g (T5) performed better than control and produced the best results in root parameters and shoot parameters such as the number of days to root (31.7), primary roots (59.30), primary root length (8.74 cm), primary root diameter (0.89 mm), secondary roots (45.57), secondary root length (5.73 cm), fresh root weight (0.93 g) and dry root weight, (0.81g) number of side shoots (6.87), length of side shoots (4.10 cm), length of longest side shoots (6.01 cm) and number of leaves per air layer (33.93). The existing guava production is not able to meet our present demand of guava fruits to the increasing population of the country. It is commonly propagated by seed. However, the seedlings produced are not true to type and they also take much longer to bear fruits than asexually propagated materials as the juvenile phase is eliminated in asexually propagated plants. Therefore, in the present study, guava air layering plants treated with the IBA@ 8 g are true to type and do not take much time to bear fruits, thus contributing to quality guava production.

Clonal propagation of Tetragonolobus palaestinus Bioss: A Jordanian medical plant

Tetragonolobus palaestinus Bioss (Aljalaton) is one of the Jordanian medicinal plants that can be used to treat stomach pain and some infections. This study was done in order to establish optimal in vitro propagation method for T. palaestinus. Factors of in vitro shooting, rooting, and acclimatization of the in vitro Tetragonolobus palaestinus seedlings were studied using different growth regulators. For in vitro shooting, different cytokinins including benzylamino purine (BAP), kinetin, TDZ, and zeatin were used in increasing concentrations (0.0, 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, 1.2, 1.5, and 2.0 mg l-1). Using benzylamino purine (BAP produced a maximum of 2.0 shoots/explants on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 0.3 mg l-1. Moreover, the effect of different concentrations of IBA (indole-3-butyric acid), IAA (indole-3-acetic acid), andnaphthalene acetic acid (NAA) was evaluated for in vitro rooting. The highest number of roots (4.06 roots/explant) was obtained on MS medium supplemented with 0.3 mg l-1 IBA. All of the plants (100 %) were grown normally after the acclimatization process. Based on these results simple protocol of T. palaestinus in vitro culture was optimized for the first time which can be utilized to do more studies on cell culture and production of active secondary metabolites.

In Vitro Propagation of Pyracantha angustifolia (Franch.) C.K. Schneid.

Narrow-leaf firethorn or pyracantha (Pyracantha angustifolia (Franch.) C.K. Schneid.), from the family Rosaceae, is a species of large and thorny evergreen shrub. In this study, a procedure is presented for efficient axillary shoot multiplication and root induction in P. angustifolia using Murashige and Skoog (MS), woody plant (WPM), and Linsmaier and Skoog (LS) culture media supplanted with 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) and indole-3-butyric acid (IBA). The disinfection of the axillary buds was performed with a 70.23% success rate on a basal MS medium augmented with 0.5 mg·L−1 gibberellic acid (GA3). Uniform and axenic explants were then cultured on MS, WPM, and LS media enriched with different concentrations of BAP, 0.3 mg·L−1 GA3, and 0.1 mg·L−1 IBA. The highest multiplication coefficient (2.389) was obtained for the MS medium supplemented with 2.5 mg·L−1 BAP. After one month, newly formed micro-shoots were transferred to rooting media (MS, WPM, and LS) containing different concentrations of IBA, together with a constant concentration of 0.1 mg·L−1 BAP. The micro-shoots were kept in the dark for one week and then cultured in a 16/8 h light/dark regime. The MS medium supplemented with 1 mg·L−1 IBA was the most effective in stimulating rooting (88.76% of micro-shoots). The highest number of roots (3.5 per micro-shoot) was produced in the MS medium enriched with 1.5 mg·L−1 IBA. The rooted plantlets were transferred into pots filled with perlite and peat moss in a 2:1 proportion and acclimatized to ambient greenhouse conditions, with a resultant mean 92.84% survival rate. Thus, this protocol can be successfully applied for the in vitro mass propagation of P. angustifolia.

Rooting and development of cuttings from Pinus chiapensis hedges in response to indolebutyric acid and substrate treatments

ABSTRACT Pinus chiapensis is an endemic and endangered species from Mexico and Guatemala, which has low seedling survival from seeds, and protocols for its asexual propagation have not been fully studied. For these reasons, through a greenhouse experiment, we first compared the production and development of cutting capacity from mother plants produced from trees selected at six different locations. Second, we evaluated after 22 weeks of growing the development responses of such cuttings, i.e. survival, root production, root length and cutting length, growing in two substrates supplemented with four different concentrations of indolebutyric acid. We found differences on cutting production and development among the six sites. In particular, plants from Zapotitlán reached the highest yield of 4.28 ± 0.36 cuttings per plant and 1.94 ± 0.08 cm in length. Cutting survival ranged from 68.6% to 100% on all treatments. The highest percentage of rooted cuttings (100%) was observed for substrate B at 1000 ppm of indolebutyric acid. In addition, the highest root production of 3.19 ± 0.21 per cutting, the highest root growth of 4.49 ± 0.79 cm and the highest cutting growth of 5.53 ± 0.26 cm were observed for substrate B at 1000 ppm of indolebutyric acid. The production of rooted cuttings should be utilized in conjunction with genetic tree improvement programs to implement local commercial plantations of plus-trees, which can reduce the extractive pressure of the few remaining relictual populations of this species, which in turn would allow increase the income of rural communities improving their life conditions.

Production of Acalypha wilkesiana seedlings using stem cuttings

The objective of this work was to evaluate the rooting of cuttings of Acalifa (Acalypha Wilkesiana) with different concentrations of indolbutyric acid (IBA). The matrix plant from which the cuttings were taken, is planted as a hedge and located at the biology institute of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro in the city of Seropédica-RJ. The experimental design was completely randomized, in a 3x3 factorial, with three different concentrations of IBA (0, 1000 and 2000 mg L-1 or 0, 2000 and 4000 mg L-1 for 15 seconds) and three types of cuttings (herbaceous, semi-woody and woody), with three replications and ten cuttings per plot. The experiments were carried out at two different times, namely: autumn and winter / spring. The following were evaluated: percentage of live cuttings, rooted, with callus and sprouting, number of roots per cut, length of the largest root. Acalypha wilkesiana can be propagated by stem cuttings, whether woody, semi-woody or herbaceous cuttings. However, herbaceous cuttings have a lower percentage of survival and rooting. Also, is a species of easy rooting through cutting of stems, dispensing with the use of AIB. Stems collected in the autumn period yield greater efficiency and productivity in the propagation of cuttings by cuttings.

Transcriptomic Analysis Reveals That Exogenous Indole-3-Butyric Acid Affects the Rooting Process During Stem Segment Culturing of Cinnamomum camphora Linalool Type

Cinnamomum camphora linalool type (C. camphora linalool type) is an economically important plant that contains abundant linalool. To explore the optimal concentration of exogenously applied indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) for root formation and development, morphological analyses were performed with plants after a 1-min soaking treatment with five different concentrations of IBA. When grown on the medium (laterite with plant ash) for 60 days after treatment with 3000 mg/L IBA, the root ratio and the number of roots were significantly higher than those obtained with 0, 1000, 2000, or 4000 mg/L IBA treatment. After soaking with 3000 mg/L IBA, the stem bases at five key stages of root development (0, 14, 21, 28, and 42 days) were selected for global transcriptome analyses. IBA treatment modified the expression of genes related to the auxin, brassinosteroid, and abscisic acid signalling transduction pathways. The rooting process reduced the accumulation of starch and the synthesis of linalool but promoted the metabolism of D-glucose. Our study identified the optimum concentration of IBA for a short treatment of C. camphora linalool type stem segments to regulate root formation and development at the transcriptional level.

Enraizamento de miniestacas e qualidade de mudas de Cordia trichotoma

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of indolebutyric acid (IBA) concentration, substrate composition and volume, and propagule type on the adventitious rooting and quality of Cordia trichotoma plantlets produced by mini-cuttings. Mini-cuttings were evaluated for rooting percentage and root number and length at 30 and 60 days of cultivation. Plantlets were evaluated for shoot height and stem diameter at 30, 60, 90, and 120 days of cultivation. The Dickson quality index, number of leaves, and fresh and dry weights of shoots and roots were also determined at 120 days of cultivation. The experiments were carried out in a completely randomized design, with six replicates, in a greenhouse, evaluating different concentrations of IBA, substrate composition and volume, and propagule type for adventitious rooting. Plantlets of C. trichotoma can be produced with quality and proper rooting from mini-cuttings with one or two buds or multiple buds (apical) when treated with 3,000 mg L-1 IBA and planted in 110 cm3 tubes containing equal proportions of substrate and vermiculite.

PROPAGAÇÃO VEGETATIVA DE Mimosa Caesalpiniifolia PELA TÉCNICA DE MINIESTAQUIA

ABSTRACT This study aimed to establish a methodology for vegetative propagation via mini-cuttings technique for Mimosa Caesalpiniifolia. For such, three independent experiments were conducted: the first one evaluated survival and production of mini-stumps; the second tested the interaction between mini-cuttings types (apical and intermediate) and different concentrations of indolbutyric acid (IAB; 0, 2,000, 4,000 and 6,000 mg.L-1) on adventitious rooting; and the third analyzed the effect of leaf area reduction (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) on mini-cuttings. Mini-stumps survival at 180 days was 80%, with an average yield of 5 sprouts per mini-stump at 120 days. Apical mini-cuttings demonstrated a higher rooting percentage, without IBA application, higher than 80%. On the other hand, IBA application promotes increased rooting percentage in intermediate mini-cuttings. Treatments without leaf reduction and with reduction of 25% promoted better results concerning rooting and plant development. Results support the hypothesis that mini-cuttings technique is viable for the propagation of Mimosa Caesalpiniifolia.

Minicutting technique and IBA application in vegetative propagation of Schinus terebinthifolia Raddi

Vegetative propagation is an alternative for the production of seedlings of native tree species such as Schinus terebinthifolia that presents a high predation rate on its seeds. In order to develop vegetative propagation technology, different concentrations of indolebutyric acid (IBA) were tested in the rooting of apical and intermediate minicuttings of Schinus terebinthifolia. The 2x4 factorial experimental design involved two types of minicuttings (apical and intermediate) and four dosages of the hormone IBA (0, 1000, 2000, and 4000 mg. L-1). The percentages of survival and rooting were evaluated. The intermediate minicuttings (37% and 35%) showed significantly greater survival than the apical cuttings (22% and 9%) respectively at 30 and 60 days, regardless of the IBA concentration. Among the rooting averages at 60 days obtained in the different concentrations of IBA, the treatment of 4000 mg. L-1 generated the highest results (9% for apical and 35% for intermediate). The vegetative propagation by minicuttings of Schinus terebinthifolia demonstrated the viability of intermediate minicuttings with high rooting associated with the highest concentration of IBA.

Response of ‘Bignay’ [Antidesma bunius (Linn.) Spreng] to cutting origins, IBA and BioGroe treatments

The response of ‘Bignay’ [Antidesma bunius (Linn.) Spreng] to the cutting origins and different levels of plant bio-regulators consist of Indole-3-butyric Acid (IBA) and Biogroe treatments were investigated by means of 3 x 9 factorial experiment in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) using an automated mist propagator. Two hundred sixteen (216) healthy seedlings containing 9 nodes each were used in the study. Results revealed that cutting origins significantly increased shoot length but have no influence on the root number, percent rooting and percent survival. The cuttings originated from the bottom portion of the stem recorded the longest mean in terms of shoot length (12.48 mm) including the highest percent survival and percent rooting (82.41%). Highest mean number of roots were observed on the top cuttings (1.93). Indole-3-butyric Acid (IBA) and Biogroe treatments on cuttings have no effects on the different parameters evaluated. The interaction effect between cutting origins and IBA/Biogroe treatments significantly increased the percent rooting and percent survival except the shoot length and root number of Bignay cuttings. Overall, the findings inferred that A. bunius can be propagated by any cutting origin derived from the main stem of the donor plants tested. Cuttings can effectively be induced to produce roots and survive and can be economically mass propagated even without the application of different concentrations of IBA and BioGroe.

Stimulus to rooting of Saccharum sp. mini-cuttings with talc indole-butyric acid

Sugarcane is a commercially important species for sugar and biofuel production and because of the high demand for plant material in planting, new means of propagation are being developed and require improvements. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of indole-butyric acid (IBA) applied in the form of talc on the initial growth and emergence of sugarcane mini-cuttings used for the system of pre-sprouted plantlets (PSP). Mini-cuttings were treated with concentrations of 0, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 mg kg-1 of IBA in the form of talc and evaluated for emergence and initial growth. There was no difference between IBA concentrations for the physiological, biometric and dry mass variables analyzed. The sugarcane plantlets formed had emergence above 89%, functional photosynthetic apparatus, 4.4 leaves on average, stem diameter of 11.90 mm, shoot length of 12.18 cm, leaf area of 108.81 cm² and root area of 142.17 cm². Shoot dry mass and root dry mass were equal to 2.27 and 1.20 grams, respectively. Thus, concentrations of up to 2000 mg kg-1 of IBA applied in the form of talc in sugarcane mini-cuttings had no effect on rooting and initial growth of plantlets.

Effects of auxin (indole-3-butyric acid) on growth characteristics, lignification, and expression profiles of genes involved in lignin biosynthesis in carrot taproot.

Carrot is an important root vegetable crop abundant in bioactive compounds including carotenoids, vitamins, and dietary fibers. Carrot intake and its products are gradually growing owing to its high antioxidant activity. Auxins are a class of plant hormones that control many processes of plant growth and development. Yet, the effects of exogenous application of auxin on lignin biosynthesis and gene expression profiles of lignin-related genes in carrot taproot are still unclear. In order to investigate the effect of exogenous indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) on lignin-related gene profiles, lignin accumulation, anatomical structures and morphological characteristics in carrot taproots, carrots were treated with different concentrations of IBA (0, 50, 100, and 150 µM). The results showed that IBA application significantly improved the growth parameters of carrot. The 100 or 150 µM IBA treatment increased the number and area of xylem vessels, whereas transcript levels of lignin-related genes were restricted, resulting in a decline in lignin content in carrot taproots. The results indicate that taproot development and lignin accumulation may be influenced by the auxin levels within carrot plants.

Propagation of native plants with ornamental potential from Serra do Oratório, Santa Catarina State, Brazil

Abstract The use of native plants enriches the landscape projects, conserves the local flora, creates a local identity and promotes the symbiosis between native fauna and flora. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the vegetative propagation of the native species Calibrachoa sellowiana, Tibouchina dubia and Verbena rigida, using cuttings submitted to different concentrations of indolebutyric acid (IBA), naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) and substrates. From the stock plants, the cuttings were excised from the apex, with leaves number varying according to the species. In the propagation of Calibrachoa sellowiana, Tibouchina dubia and Verbena rigida under different concentrations of IBA, 4 treatments were carried out, consisting of IBA at concentrations of 0 mg L-1 (control), 500 mg L-1, 1000 mg L-1 and 2,000 mg L-1. In the propagation of Tibouchina dubia under different concentrations of NAA, the experiment was developed using four treatments, NAA was diluted in acetone + talc at concentrations of 0 mg L-1 (control), 2,000 mg L-1, 4,000 mg L-1 and 6,000 mg L-1. The evaluated variables for all the experiments were: percentage of rooted cuttings, number of roots per rooted cutting, average root length (cm) and number of shoots. In the substrate experiment, the treatments were sand, vermiculite, Plantmax® and mixture of soil + sand, for all the species from the previous experiments. Calibrachoa sellowiana and Verbena rigida, rooted with low concentration of IBA, 0 e 500 mg L-1, respectively, but the PGR was not essential to rooting phase, since the control also developed roots. For Tibouchina dubia the IBA and NAA did not promoted rooting. Calibrachoa sellowiana rooted better with soil + sand, differing from Verbena rigida, which rooted better with Plantmax®.

Quality of light and indolbutyric acid in vitro rooting of lavender

Abstract Lavender, an aromatic and medicinal plant, used in the extraction of essential oil, as an ornamental and meliferous plant, can be successfully propagated as long as the light, the nutrient medium and the growth regulators are adequate. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of indolebutyric acid (IBA) associated to distinct light spectra, on the in vitro rooting of Lavandula angustifolia. The experiment consisted in the combination of two concentrations of indolebutyric acid in the growth medium (0 and 0.1 mg L-1) and two light spectra, using cellulose acetate filters (blue and red), besides the control (without filter), totaling six treatments with four repetitions. For each repetition five explants were used. After 30 days, the variables evaluated were: survival percentage, number of buds and leaves, shoot length, number of roots, length of the longest root, shoot fresh and dry matter weight. There was a significant interaction among the indolebutyric acid concentrations and the light filters for the variables number of buds, leaves and roots and shoot length. Except for leaf number, promising results were obtained when the explants were held under red filters and with a concentration of 0 mg L-1 of indolebutyric acid in the growth medium. From these results, it can be concluded that the best in vitro rooting of Lavandula angustifolia is obtained when there is no indolebutyric acid in the growth medium associated with the use of the red filter.

A highly efficient organogenesis protocol based on zeatin riboside for in vitro regeneration of eggplant

BackgroundEfficient organogenesis induction in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is required for multiple in vitro culture applications. In this work, we aimed at developing a universal protocol for efficient in vitro regeneration of eggplant mainly based on the use of zeatin riboside (ZR). We evaluated the effect of seven combinations of ZR with indoleacetic acid (IAA) for organogenic regeneration in five genetically diverse S. melongena and one S. insanum L. accessions using two photoperiod conditions. In addition, the effect of six different concentrations of indolebutyric acid (IBA) in order to promote rooting was assessed to facilitate subsequent acclimatization of plants. The ploidy level of regenerated plants was studied.ResultsIn a first experiment with accessions MEL1 and MEL3, significant (p < 0.05) differences were observed for the four factors evaluated for organogenesis from cotyledon, hypocotyl and leaf explants, with the best results obtained (9 and 11 shoots for MEL1 and MEL3, respectively) using cotyledon tissue, 16 h light / 8 h dark photoperiod conditions, and medium E6 (2 mg/L of ZR and 0 mg/L of IAA). The best combination of conditions was tested in the other four accessions and confirmed its high regeneration efficiency per explant when using both cotyledon and hypocotyl tissues. The best rooting media was R2 (1 mg/L IBA). The analysis of ploidy level revealed that between 25 and 50% of the regenerated plantlets were tetraploid.ConclusionsAn efficient protocol for organogenesis of both cultivated and wild accessions of eggplant, based on the use of ZR, is proposed. The universal protocol developed may be useful for fostering in vitro culture applications in eggplant requiring regeneration of plants and, in addition, allows developing tetraploid plants without the need of antimitotic chemicals.

Rooting of herbaceous cuttings of Malpighia emarginata D.C. (CAMB-06 and APU-04 selections) associated with the use of indolebutyric acid and liquid extract of Cyperus rotundus L.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the rooting of herbaceous cuttings of CAMB-06 and APU-04 acerola cherry selections associated with the use of indolebutyric acid (IBA) and a concentration of aqueous extract of coco-grass. Cuttings were treated by immersion with different concentrations of IBA (0; 1,000; 2,000; 3,000; 4,000 mg L-1) and one application of aqueous extract of coco-grass in proportion 100% and placed to root in plastic boxes containing vermiculite. The experimental design was a completely randomized in a 2×6 factorial arrangement (two acerola cherry selections and six solutions for rooting) with four replicates of ten cuttings. After 90 days of cutting, the following variables were evaluated: cutting survival (%); leaf retention (%); rooted cuttings (%); sprouting (%); number of roots per cutting (%); length of roots (cm) and dry mass of roots per cutting (g). It was concluded that the application of IBA at 4,000 mg L-1 presented a better root development, resulting in a higher percentage of rooted cuttings and higher number and dry mass of roots in relation to IBA at 0 mg L-1 for CAMB-06 selection, while the APU-04 selection can be efficiently multiplied by herbaceous cuttings without the use of IBA. Under the conditions that the trials was conducted, the application of 100% aqueous extract of coco-grass was not effective in promoting the rooting of cuttings of CAMB-06 and APU-04 acerola cherry selections.

MINICUTTING OF CHARDONNAY GRAPEVINE AND SO4 GRAPEVINE ROOTSTOCK

The use of grapevine minicutting is an alternative for the production of quality plants. This technique has been gaining ground as one of the most used forms of vegetative propagation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the rooting of herbaceous minicuttings of Chardonnay grapevine and SO4 grapevine rootstock by using different concentrations of indolebutyric acid (IBA) to form a clonal mini-garden. The experimental design was randomized blocks with four levels of IBA concentrations (0, 500, 1000 and 1500 mg L-1). The minicuttings remained in trays containing vermiculite and kept in a micro sprinkler chamber. After 60 days, the percentage of survival, rooting and callus formation, root number and average length, shoot number and average length were evaluated. For Chardonnay, the means of survival and rooting varied between 93 and 100% in all treatments. In relation to SO4, the IBA concentration of 1500 mg L-1 negatively affected the minicuttings survival and rooting. It is possible to propagate Chardonnay grapevine and SO4 grapevine rootstock through herbaceous minicutting, with no need of apply IBA for the rooting.
