FOREIGN LANGUAGE TRAINING OF FUTURE TEACHERS AT PAVLO TYCHYNA UMAN STATE PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY

The article presents an analysis of the state of foreign language training of future teachers in particular the Faculty of Primary Education at Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University and outlines the prospects for the development of the English-speaking environment at the university. It has been established that the foreign language training of participants in the educational process at USPU complies with the current documents of the international, national and local levels; it continues throughout the training at all educational levels using practice-oriented, interactive and specific teaching methods. It has been studied that the activation of students is facilitated by a combination of different forms of education, the use of digitalization of education and the personal example of the teacher in improving foreign language proficiency through international internships, teaching in English in foreign universities, etc. It has been proved that the experience of organizing international and internal academic mobility confirms the need for high-quality foreign language training, while at the same time making it possible to improve the level of foreign language proficiency; the advantageous features of the university in foreign language training are foreign language courses, recognition of the results of non-formal/informal education for foreign language training disciplines, development and teaching of professional disciplines in English, holding guest lectures, thematic meetings, club classes in English, etc., creating conditions for academic mobility of students and academic staff, project activities, access to English-language research platforms and world libraries, educational resources, as well as involvement of stakeholders, including employers, to increase the motivation of students to learn foreign languages and professional disciplines in English. Based on the analysis of the results of the survey of students and teachers, it was established that they understand the importance of the conditions created at the university for foreign language training, as well as the role of the individual in mastering foreign languages, which contributes to the development and self-improvement of the individual, and the disclosure of his or her reserve capabilities and creative potential, the formation of a socially active and independent personality in the context of intercultural interaction.

ORGANIZATION-PEDAGPGICAL CONDITIONS OF PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ ABILITY FOR INTERACTIVE DISTANCE EDUCATIONAL COOPERATION

The article justifies the topicality of future teachers’ preparation for work in blended learning conditions, including for organization of interactive distance educational cooperation. Such terms as interactivity and interactive education proposed by domestic researchers are analyzed. The classification of interactive activity forms is proposed.Organization-pedagogical conditions of the development of future teachers’ ability for interactive distance education cooperation are described: the implementation of models of interactive distance cooperation into educational process of a pedagogical university; the combination of various forms of interactive distance education cooperation; the use of active and interactive methods of education; the creation of open dynamic information-educational environment on the basis of equality and equivalence of objects of education, their cooperation and inter education; the use of modern dialogue technologies, modification of traditional forms of pedagogical interaction. The models of interactive distance interaction are characterized: informational, intentional, interactive, and inclusive. Much attention is drawn to the need for combination of different forms of interactive distance educational cooperation: the means of acting and dramatizing; role games; discussions, debates; press-conferences; “Brainstorming”, “Solution Tree”, method “Know / want find out / have found out”; method “Uncompleted Sentences”, “Press”, “Microphone”, sync wine. The peculiarities of active and interactive methods according to the requirements of modern educational process are highlighted. The ways of the creation of open dynamic informational-educational environment on the basis of equality, equivalence of objects of education, their cooperation and inter education are characterized. The examples of using of modern dialogue technologies, the modification of traditional forms of pedagogical interaction in future music teachers’ preparation are given.

Asbestos-Related lung Cancer: An underappreciated oncological issue

Asbestos, a group of class I (WHO) carcinogenic fibers, is the main cause of mesothelioma. Asbestos inhalation also increases the risk to develop other solid tumours with lung cancer as the most prominent example [91]. The incidence of asbestos-related lung cancer (ARLC) is estimated to be to six times larger than the mesothelioma incidence thereby becoming an important health issue [86]. Although the pivotal role of asbestos in inducing lung cancer is well established, the precise causal relationships between exposures to asbestos, tobacco smoke, radon and ‘particulate’ (PM2.5) air pollution remain obscure and new knowledge is needed to establish appropriate preventive measures and to tailor existing screening practices[22,61,65]. We hypothesize that a part of the increasing numbers of lung cancer diagnoses in never-smokers can be explained by (historic and current) exposures to asbestos as well as combinations of different forms of air pollution (PM2.5, asbestos and silica).

Agency in green path development: Circular bioeconomy in the wastewater sector

ABSTRACT The mounting pressures of climate change and biodiversity loss require a transition towards more sustainable patterns of production and consumption. Within the bioeconomy, better utilization of natural resources can be achieved by pursuing a circular bioeconomy. In the article the authors study how circular bioeconomy efforts in the Hamar region, Norway, have resulted in green path development. They draw on the trinity of change agency conceptualization to deepen our understanding of how agency over time has resulted in green path upgrading in the region. Through a qualitative study, they provide novel insights into the agency of an inter-municipal water and wastewater company in green path development processes. The authors conclude that a combination of different forms of agency, exercised by different actors, has resulted in what they regard as emerging green path development within the region.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOFT SKILLS OF PRIMARY SCHOOLTEACHERS IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE FOR SPECIAL PURPOSES LESSONS

The aim of the article is to reveal the potential of the academic discipline Foreign Language for Special Purposes (FLFSP) in the development of soft skills of future primary school teachers. The objectives of the study are to analyze scientific sources on the topic of the research; to identify the soft skills important for future primary school teachers; to present a lesson sample of how learning FLFSP can contribute to the development of soft skills in students. The research methods that are used in the article include the method of critical analysis of scientific literature – to analyze scientific sources on the problem under study and identify the most important soft skills; the method of studying and summarizing the positive experience of the development of students’ soft skills while learning FLFSP – to provide a sample lesson. The research has revealed that the most important soft skills that Ukrainian future primary school teachers should possess are: communication, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork, adaptability, decision making, initiative, critical thinking and creativity. The academic discipline Foreign Language for Special Purposes has a significant potential in the development of the soft skills mentioned. Studying this discipline involves a combination of different forms of organizing students’ learning activities in the classroom (individual, pair and group work), a combination of interrelated speech activities (listening, reading, speaking, and writing), teaching methods (role play, group debates, discussion, project work, public speaking, maintaining a blog or a discussion forum), and educational materials. The analysis of the impact of different methods of teaching a foreign language on the development of students’ soft skills may be a promising direction for future studies.

Has the pandemic affected the motivation and job satisfaction of university researchers? A case study from France

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to determine whether the pandemic affects the motivation and job satisfaction of university researchers as a whole and by their separate groups by gender, age, academic position (career stage) and degree.Design/methodology/approachThe authors studied French universities for changes in motivation and job satisfaction among researchers under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. For this, two hypotheses were tested, using the one-way ANOVA parametric test and the Kruskal–Wallis nonparametric statistical test with the data collected during the in-depth interviews and surveys with university researchers from the Paris Diderot University and Jean Moulin University of Lyon III in 2019 and 2021.FindingsThere were found significant differences between changes in motivation and job satisfaction of respondent groups by gender, career stage and scientific degrees. All these differences in changes confirm hypothesis about the significant impact of the pandemic on certain motivators and elements of job satisfaction of various groups of university researchers. The study showed that pandemic restrictions and fears positively affect the motivation and job satisfaction of the younger generation of researchers and males, and negatively on the older generation and female researchers. During the pandemic, early-stage researchers are mostly unhappy only with the salary and the lack of teaching skills. While experienced and senior researchers do not have time to fulfill all their duties due to overload by a combination of different forms of teaching, many teaching hours, administrative duties and mastering new communication tools.Research limitations/implicationsThe results capture the selective impact of pandemic restrictions, its physical and mental effects on academic staff. Although only two universities in a single country were considered, the findings show the heterogeneity of the perception of new (pandemic) working conditions by different groups of university workers. If such heterogeneity is revealed in the example of two universities, then it is very likely to be observable also in broader studies.Practical implicationsThe results of this study can help university administrations, higher education regulators and national research agencies address the needs of all groups of researchers, alleviating the most acute restrictions and fears caused by the pandemic and providing the necessary incentives for relevant groups, e.g. higher salary, teaching school and awards for young researchers and a lower teaching loading for experienced and senior researchers.Originality/valueThis is the first study that define pandemic impact on motivation and job satisfaction of university researchers in France.

Find your match! How emerging economy firms combine different forms of openness to innovate

This study investigates how combining different forms of formal collaboration (i.e., developed vs. emerging economy collaborations) and informal search (i.e., search breadth vs. depth) affects the innovation performance of emerging economy firms. The open innovation literature has primarily focused on the effect of individual open innovation practices, generating conflicting results. We argue that outcomes depend on specific combinations of open innovation practices. Drawing on the notion of external absorptive capacity routines, we argue that combining forms of openness that rely on the same absorptive capacity routine positively affects innovation performance. We specifically ask whether broad or deep search, which rely on different routines, is more appropriate for emerging economy firms who are collaborating with developed or other emerging economy partners. We test our hypotheses using responses from 659 manufacturing and service firms to two waves of the Turkish Innovation Survey. Using Tobit regression analysis, we generate findings consistent with our expectations. We find that deep search is appropriate when collaborating with developed economy partners, whereas broad search is appropriate when collaborating with other emerging economy partners. These confirm the importance of combining forms of openness with matching routines. Overall, we illustrate the importance of finding the right combination of different forms of openness.

The Beautiful Public Danube: Water Uses, Water Rights, and the Habsburg Imperial State in the Mid-nineteenth Century

AbstractThis article analyzes an 1869 law from Cisleithania that defined all running waters as public goods. Economic and political actors debated the issue of water rights over several decades in the mid-nineteenth century, as is shown in contemporary publications, proceedings of assemblies, and administrative archives. The legal solution that was ultimately adopted established the management of water rights and uses according to a particular form of property which was intentionally preferred over a system of private appropriation. Looking in detail at what “public good” meant for the actors, this article argues that settling the legal status of rivers served to both consolidate the imperial state's power over society and to make water resources available to a productivist economic system. The new relationships to the environment that emerged during this time were inseparable from contemporary political and economic developments, and legislating was one way to bind these aspects together. Moreover, the case of water rights in the Habsburg Empire adds nuance to binary oppositions between private property and commons that dominate the study of property regimes and environment today. It invites us to consider how the establishment of a productivist economic system rested on a combination of different forms of property and strong state intervention.

Testicular Germ Cell Tumors with Somatic-type Malignancy

Testicular cancer accounts for ∼1% of all cancers in men worldwide, with over 90% of testicular cancers being germ cell tumors (GCTs). Since the introduction of multimodal therapy, testicular GCTs have been among the most curable solid tumors. However, some patients may develop late relapse, which is defined as recurrence at least two years after the initial complete remission. Late recurrence is particularly common in patients with teratomatous GCTs and is associated with somatic-type malignancy (SM) development. Approximately 2.5–8.0% of testicular GCT patients may develop SM, a distinct secondary component that resembles cancers seen in other organs and tissues. The histological subtypes of SM are diverse and may show morphological features of sarcomas, carcinomas, embryonic-type neuroectodermal tumors, nephroblastomas, hematologic malignancies, or a combination of different forms. Several studies have demonstrated that the development of SM in testicular GCTs, particularly at metastatic sites, is associated with a poor prognosis. In the current review, we discuss the concept of GCTs with SM, the diagnostic criteria, the common histological subtypes, the pathogenesis, and the clinical outcomes of GCT patients with SM.

Features of education and upbringing of children in noble families in Russia in the XVIII–XIX centuries

The purpose of the article is to study the peculiarities of raising children in the families of the Russian elite of the 18th-19th centuries, as well as its relevance for the modern development of pedagogical science. The author has carried out an analysis of family education in a noble environment in the works of representatives of the Russian intellectual elite of the 18th-19th centuries, which was based on a rethinking of the pedagogical ideas of humanism and enlightenment. When studying the works of scientists, methods of assessing the pedagogical heritage of the epoch were used, based on the historical reconstruction of pedagogical phenomena and their consistent understanding. The article points out that in the works of representatives of the Russian elite of the XVIII–XIX centuries the following main ideas of family education were proclaimed: the need to improve the interaction between the child and parents on the basis of humanism and faith in the success of the educational influence of parents on the personality of the child; understanding of education as a means of creating a perfect personality; the need for a harmonious combination of different forms of family education; respect for the personality of the child.

Obesity and functional bowel disorders in adolescents: a pilot study

Background: Studies of the relationship between obesity and functional bowel disorders, carried out in different age groups, provide conflicting results. It remains unclear what factors are responsible for the transition from a tendency to constipation in children to a tendency to diarrhea in adults with obesity.Aim: To establish factors related to stool consistency as a surrogate marker of colon transit in adolescents with obesity.Materials and methods: A single-center observational cross-sectional study was carried out. We consecutively recruited adolescents, aged 11–17 years with obesity. Socio-demographic characteristics, lifestyle and nutritional characteristics were assessed using questionnaires. Bowel symptoms were assessed using questionnaires and interviews. Stool consistency was assessed using the Bristol Stool Form Scale. Serum concentrations of ALT, AST, bilirubin, cholesterol, glucose, HbA1c, leptin, and insulin were determined. The HOMA-IR index was used to determine insulin resistance.Results: One hundred and ten adolescents with obesity were enrolled in the study. Of these, 69.1% had a pathological consistency of feces, with the prevalence of forms characterizing delayed gut transit (49.1%). The predominance of loose stools was reported by 5.5% of patients. The combination of different forms of stool (unstable stool) was described by 14.5% of adolescents. Hard stools were common among adolescents from single-parent families and adolescents who rarely consume dairy products. The presence of loose stools has been associated with insulin resistance.Conclusion: Most obese adolescents who do not have abdominal complaints have colon transit disorders. Medical professionals should actively ask these patients about stool frequency and properties. With constipation, dietary correction is justified. Research is needed to investigate in-depth gut microbiota as a possible link between obesity and diarrhea.

Особливості застосування здоров’язберігаючих технологій у навчанні дітей з ООП

The article considers the latest and most effective health-preserving technologies that should be used in teaching children with special educational needs: teaching a healthy lifestyle (game therapy, communication games, self-massage), technologies for maintaining and promoting health (rhythmic plastic surgery, eye gymnastics, relaxation, moving and sports games, breathing gymnastics, dynamic pauses, articulation gymnastics), correctional technologies (art therapy, fairy tale therapy, color therapy, psychogymnastics, phonetic rhythmics). It is noted that the use of health technologies in the education of children with SEN is a preventive method that prevents health problems from worsening over time and therefore does not complicate the learning process. For best results, health technologies in education should include components such as the optimal level of difficulty, variability of methods and forms of learning; optimal combination of motor and static loads; learning in small groups; use of clarity; combination of different forms of providing information; creating an emotionally favorable atmosphere; formation of motivation to study; cultivating students' knowledge of health. The use of health-preserving technologies in the learning process allows to make a comprehensive assessment of living conditions, preserve the physical and mental potential of young people, develop a higher level of health and healthy lifestyle skills, monitor individual development indicators, predict possible health changes and conduct appropriate measures to improve the quality of life of the subjects of the educational environment. It is established that the introduction of innovative health-preserving technologies in training gives a positive result. It is mandatory to use psychological and pedagogical techniques, methods, approaches to solve emerging problems with children's health, but only a comprehensive and systematic use of these technologies helps to achieve significant results. Health-preserving technologies used in the educational process create the maximum possible conditions for maintaining, strengthening and developing the spiritual, emotional, intellectual, personal and physical health of children with SEN. It is established that the current state of health of the Ukrainian population actualizes the problem of introduction of health-preserving technologies, formation of valeological type of consciousness of the younger generation.

Architectonics of Scientific Personnel Training in the Conditions of Postgraduate Study (on the Example of the First Year of Training)

The questions related to postgraduate education as an institution for training scientific personnel, which seeks to create and put into practice its own concept of training graduate students and applicants on the basis of universities are observed in the article. The author considers the architectonics of postgraduate training from the perspective of the quality of educational programs and pedagogical technologies; creating conditions for continuing education through a combination of different forms and methods of education based on the principle of continuity and preservation of the pedagogical potential of all scientific disciplines in teaching of personnel in postgraduate school. Having studied the reasons for low publication activity of postgraduates / applicants in the Transbaikal State University and on the basis of the existing FSES of Higher Education in postgraduate education the author has attempted to create an architectonics of postgraduate training continuity (1st level). On the example of the “Foreign Language” discipline the practical implementation of first-year postgraduates training within the framework of the succession architectonics is shown. The article provides a detailed description of each block of training with an emphasis on the integration of the educational process participants and taught scientific disciplines, analyzes the collected statistical data on the problem in the ZabGU, draws conclusions and forecasts the results. Associations of form and function of speaking up in anaesthesia: a prospective observational study

BackgroundSpeaking up with concerns in the interest of patient safety has been identified as important for the quality and safety of patient care. The study objectives were to identify how anaesthesia care providers speak up, how their colleagues react to it, whether there is an association among speak up form and reaction, and how this reaction is associated with further speak up. MethodsData were collected over 3 months at a single centre in Switzerland by observing 49 anaesthesia care providers while performing induction of general anaesthesia in 53 anaesthesia teams. Speaking up and reactions to speaking up were measured by event-based behaviour coding. ResultsInstances of speaking up were classified as opinion (59.6%), oblique hint (37.2%), inquiry (30.7%), and observation (16.7%). Most speak up occurred as a combination of different forms. Reactions to speak up included short approval (36.5%), elaboration (35.9%), no verbal reaction (26.3%), or rejection (1.28%). Speaking up was implemented in 89.1% of cases. Inquiry was associated with an increased likelihood of recipients discussing the respective issue (odds ratio [OR]=13.6; 95% confidence interval [CI], 5.9–31.5; P<0.0001) and with a decreased likelihood of implementing the speak up during the same induction (OR=0.27; 95% CI, 0.08–0.88; P=0.03). Reacting with elaboration to the first speak up was associated with decreased further speak up during the same induction (relative risk [RR]=0.42; 95% CI, 0.21–0.83; P=0.018). ConclusionOur study provides insights into the form and function of speaking up in clinical environments and points to a perceived dilemma of speaking up via questions.

Improving Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) through a blended model of PCK and action learning

ABSTRACT Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) is a combination of different forms of teaching knowledge necessary to provide students with a meaningful learning experience. This article aims to improve teachers’ PCK by incorporating it into an action learning approach. The authors designed the Blended Model of Reflective PCK (BMRP) to enable teachers to be aware of mistakes, learn from experience, and reflect. An instrument based on this model was also created to facilitate model implementation. Using this model as treatment, empirical data from an experimental study were acquired. This study involved 40 high school teachers from two different boarding schools. Data were obtained using pre-test and post-test. Teachers’ answers were scored using a rubric and then analysed using ANCOVA. The study shows that the BMRP could significantly improve teachers’ PCK.

Accounting for benefits from natural capital: Applying a novel composite indicator framework to the marine environment

Increased emphasis on the natural capital approach in the UK has led to greater demand for methods that link economic sectors with elements of natural capital, and that can provide evidence for sustainable management of the environment. However, factors describing the supply of benefits, and their links with economic sectors, are not well defined.This study develops a novel framework that investigates how the combination of different forms of capital (natural, financial, social, manufactured or human) provide a potential supply of benefits, and how changes in quality or extent of natural capital affects supply. Factors affecting the delivery of benefits are analysed, and indicators for each factor are selected. Indicators are ranked and weighted, and benefit supply is represented as a novel, composite index. The composite supply index is then linked as an input to a related economic sector.This framework is applied for the first time to four benefits from the marine environment in the UK: seafood, offshore wind energy, wildlife watching and water sports. The approach is compatible with national accounts, natural capital accounts, and established ecosystem service classifications. This study shows how linking economic sectors with benefits can provide new evidence in support of marine management.

Extractivist violence and the COVID-19 conjuncture

This article consists of a theoretical development of the concept of extractivist violence, which is proposed as useful for understanding a conjuncture that is not only characterised by the COVID-19 pandemic, but also by an urgent climate crisis resulting from violent extractivism. Extractivist violence is defined as the combination of different forms of violence exerted upon territories and upon racialised, gendered peoples (their bodies and their cultures) resulting from, and with the purpose of, perpetuating the extractivist model. It is engrained in the zones of extraction, but its logic extends beyond it. Taking Argentina as a starting point of enquiry, the theoretical proposal is followed by discussion of a series of events and phenomena unfolding during the COVID-19 crisis, with the aim of demonstrating how the perspective of extractivist violence is useful for arriving at a deeper and more nuanced understanding of the COVID-19 conjuncture. The article concludes with a consideration of the ethics of care as a counterpart to extractivist violence, and of the ways that care has underpinned a series of responses to COVID-19.

Theory, preparation, properties and catalysis application in 2D graphynes-based materials

Carbon has three hybridization forms of sp−, sp2− and sp3−, and the combination of different forms can obtain different kinds of carbon allotropes, such as diamond, carbon nanotubes, fullerene, graphynes (GYs) and graphdiyne (GDY). Among them, the GDY molecule is a single-layer two-dimensional (2D) planar structure material with highly π-conjugation formed by sp− and sp2− hybridization. GDY has a carbon atom ring composed of benzene ring and acetylene, which makes GDY have a uniformly distributed pore structure. In addition, GDY planar material have some slight wrinkles, which makes GDY have better self-stability than other 2D planar materials. The excellent properties of GDY make it attract the attention of researchers. Therefore, GDY is widely used in chemical catalysis, electronics, communications, clean energy and composite materials. This paper summarizes the recent progress of GDY research, including structure, preparation, properties and application of GDY in the field of catalysts.

Formation of an inclusive educational environment of educational institutions

An inclusive educational environment in Ukraine’s education system is a key factor influencing its intensive reform, enabling access to quality education for persons with special educational needs. The purpose of the academic paper is to develop a scientific approach to the formation of an inclusive educational environment of Ukraine’s educational institutions, taking into account the experience of its creation in European countries. Research methods: comparison, system-structural research, statistical-analytical, tabular, graphic, analytical modeling, as well as methods of abstraction, analysis and generalization. The most effective model for creating inclusion in European countries is the use of a comprehensive (variable) approach, that is, a combination of different forms of involving children in the educational process. Achieving success in the course of the formation of an inclusive environment is possible provided that the management actions of the subjects of the educational process are combined. These should include not only teachers, social workers and students, but also psychologists, methodologists, parents of children with special needs and representatives of state and local bodies, who are delegated the powers and authority to organize the learning environment. Inclusion in education is achieved through the rational distribution of powers between teachers, parents of children with special needs and the authorities. The model of an inclusive environment should be based on the principle of variability and differentiation. In the process of creating a comfortable learning environment for children with mental and physical disabilities, it is important to keep in mind the rights, responsibilities and interests of teachers, as well as children with normal development. A special role in the education of children with personal needs is played by their parents. In the process of forming an inclusive educational environment, insufficient attention is paid to the functions of local authorities. Further scientific investigation requires improving the methodological approaches of inclusive education for applicants of higher education with special educational needs, which optimizes the processes of their social adaptation, resocialization and integration in the social environment.

التوسّع في المعنى في اللغة العربية: دراسة تطبيقية لنماذج من آي القرآن الكريم

The comprehensiveness of the meaning is the most important phenomenon of the Arabic language and the most important characteristics that distinguishes the Arabic language from other languages. It is widely used in Arabic language in general, and in the verses of the Qur’an in particular. This article deals with this phenomenon, namely: the use of words to denote more than the original meaning, it means that these words bear or contain more than one meaning, instead, the speaker can expand the meanings of the words by using less words and he can achieve his purpose easily and conveniently without any lacking and defect. This method constantly used in the Holy Qur’an and in the Arabic poetry and prose. This phenomenon is related to the different linguistic and grammatical aspects, such as: similarity of words, the combination of different forms of words which are different in significance, and refrain from expressions, deletions, inclusion and providing before and after behind, and common forms and so on. The interpreters, linguists, grammatists and rhetorician followed this, and gave more care in it which is not hidden in the rhetorical expression, especially in the Qur’anic expressions. So, the function of this unique characteristic of the language becomes clear in this study.
