Reducing the impact of mental disorders on daily life has been identified as a priority outcome by youth and clinicians. But assessing life impact is challenging. Many outcome measurement instruments (OMIs) are available, including OMIs of functioning, quality of life (QoL), and well-being. A comprehensive overview of options is lacking. The extent to which designated functioning, well-being, and QoL OMIs provide conceptually distinct avenues for assessment is uncertain. A scoping umbrella review aimed to generate a first full overview of relevant OMIs, and explore differences in design characteristics, item valence (ie, whether items focused on deficits, strengths, or were neutrally worded), and item content.
