From the electric point of view the soil constitutes a mixture of dielectric and conductive substances. The substance of the rock and the air, contained in its pores, represent the dielectric part of the rock; the water and metallic ores the conductive part. In saturated rocks the water fills continuously the pores. This is the case in humid regions.
