The development of Web-based information system using quick UDP internet connection

The Academic Information System (xSIA) is built to its users to manage Study Program modules, including student academic grades. xSIA applying the Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) was developed by implementing Quick UDP Internet Connection (QUIC) technology with the HTTP/3 protocol which can demonstrate protocol transaction speed performance. The design of information systems and databases employs the Convention Over Configuration paradigm. The Prototyping Model is used to graphically represent the workflow of the system with an experimental research design. System modeling utilizes Unified Modeling Language (UML) tools, Data Base Management System (DBMS) using PostgreSQL, and UDP ports as a means of data communication. The implementation of Quick UDP Internet Connection (QUIC) on the xSIA moodle LMS is effective for real-time communications that do not require conditions to open, maintain, or terminate connections as in streaming video conference. It is also optimal because the UDP data is transferred individually and checked for its integrity upon arrival. When a video streaming transaction last 02:36 seconds with a file size of 4.1mb, there is a significant difference of 100.98ms in the waiting time to first byte (ttfb).

Evaluation and Development of Web-Based Information Systems of Unit Pelaksana Teknis Mengwi District Based on Usability Method and User Experience

Unit Pelaksana Teknis (UPT) of Mengwi District is one of the regional agencies of Badung Regency. UPT Mengwi has an important task in terms of educational services in the Mengwi District. There were several problems found by users, namely problems related to the interface and some functional systems that did not run optimally. Therefore, continuous evaluation and development were needed. The evaluation of SIUPT Mengwi was carried out using the evaluation techniques of Performance Measurement, Retrospective Think Aloud, and User Experience Questionnaires. The results in the initial evaluation phase with the Performance Measurement technique showed that it was still not effective and efficient. The analysis of user satisfaction on the attractiveness aspect was 1.45, clarity aspect was 1.05, efficiency aspect was 1.21, and accuracy aspect was 1.45. It discovers that the satisfaction Level of the SIUPT Mengwi has not reached the set standard, so that development efforts were needed. The results of the evaluation after the development phase showed that SIUPT has been effective and efficient with a failure rate of 0%, and there was no significant difference in the time to complete the task. All aspects of user satisfaction gained a very good category with an average score for the attractiveness aspect, which was 2.39, the clarity aspect was 2.29, the efficiency aspect was 2.50, the accuracy aspect was 2.41, the stimulation aspect was 2.43, and the novelty aspect was 2.40. For future evaluation and development, some improvements can be made to the Graphic User Interface (GUI) on the system to improve the research which will be carried out.

Analysis and Development of Laboratory Information Systems (case Study : Informatics Engineering Laboratory, Bhayangkara University, Surabaya)

At first information systems do not have to be associated with information technology, but with the development of the times, nowadays an information system can not exist without the use of information technology. A system is needed to facilitate the affairs of an organization. The effecctiverss of the system will affect the success of the organization under it. The development of Web-based Information Systems is an effort to develop the implementation of practice and in order to improve the quality of services to students that are effective, efficient and transparent, and directed to achieve the establishment of information networks and service transactions to qualified students without restrictions on partition and space. The end goal is the development of Laboratory Information System is expected to accommodate the concept, the essence and the nature of service to students with excellenees. The results of the test based on questionnaire data. Presentase conformity system reach 92%, where the system runs in accordance with the wishes of responden. While the system discrepancies reach 8%.

Requirements Analysis and Design of IRB System

Institutional review boards (IRB) are established by institutions to protect (human) research subjects from abuse. Researchers are thus required to apply and obtain IRB ap- proval for any research initiative that involves human subjects. Currently, most USA institutions use paper-based or partially automated approaches for IRB application, review, and approval processes. This can be cumbersome, error-prone and usually add unnecessary workloads to researchers. Moreover, paper- based approaches can delay or reduce research output, especially during collaborative research projects if researchers are from different institutions. Web-based information systems can be developed and used to streamline IRB application and approval processes. Before such web-based systems can be developed, the requirements of the system have to be analyzed and designed. However, requirements analysis and design are usually very tedious and expensive project, which may discourage some institutions from implementing systems to support IRB processes. The aim of this paper is to contribute a set of requirements and systems models that can be customized and re-used, by other institutions, to develop IRB Systems. Accordingly, we provide the following models, use case, feature tree model, and network diagram. In addition, we discussed our experiences and systems analysis principles we adopt to make this project a success. We believe that the experiences we share and the models we provide in this paper can inform practice and advance the knowledge of web-based information systems development. Re-using existing requirements and designs can also help to reduce the amount of time and cost required to develop similar systems.

Web Based Information System in Coffee Cirengot 33 Bandung

This study aims to help solve the problem Reservation of cirengot coffee shop places is still done manually and transaction reports are still manual on 33 cirengot roads in the city of Bandung where the study was conducted. The background of writing this report is because there are several problems that exist around ordering food and beverages are still manual and transaction reports are still manual. Research data collection through the process of library study and interview process. The research method used is the research action design and the development method is Prototype. While modeling the system using Unified Modelling Language is expected that all three can maximize the desired results. Research conducted includes the creation of a website-based coffee shop information system covering several factors, namely the data management system starting from the owner, employee, financial statements, income, expenses and also there is the preparation of financial reports. It is hoped that the development of web-based information systems can overcome the problems that exist in the Bandung Cirengot coffee shop.

Accounting Information System Web Based in Middle School Muhammadiyah 3 Bandung

This study aims to help solve accounting problems in the Muhammadiyah 3 junior high school where the research was conducted. The background of writing this report is because there are some problems that exist around accounting management including the work of financial employees who are still ineffective and inefficient, making reports that require an iterative process and employee service to parents of students. Research data collection through the process of library research and the process of interviews with financial employees. The research method used is the action reaserch and the method of development is the Unified Software Development Process while the system modeling using the Unified Modeling Language is expected to maximize the desired results. Research carried out includes making a web-based financial information system in Muhammadiyah 3 junior high school including several factors, namely data management systems ranging from employee data, students, student finance, income, expenses and there is also making financial reports using a codeigniter framework. It is hoped that the development of web-based information systems can overcome the existing accounting problems.

Information system for selection the optimal goods supplier

Today there is a wide variety of similar products in the market that are usually offered by several suppliers. This leads to the need to analyze the market and to solve the problem of finding the best goods supplier that would satisfy all necessary consumer requirements. The study is devoted to the web-based information system development for selecting the optimal supplier among those who are located on the AliExpress trading platform under multicriteria conditions. The optimal supplier selection is carried out with the Analytic hierarchy process method considering the priority of the evaluation criteria for the consumer. The suppliers are evaluated by the complex indicator of supplier’s competitiveness which is calculated by developed mathematical model.The main functions of the proposed information system are the follows: goods selection, the forming a set of alternatives which consist from all suppliers, the evaluation of alternatives by eight independent criteria, the calculation the complex indicator of supplier’s competitiveness, the forming of a good’s supplier’s rating. It allows to find the best goods’ supplier providing data on calculated suppliers rating and current prices.

Modules for Rapid Application Development of Web-Based Information Systems (RADWIS)

Abstract This paper describes a model of modular system for Rapid Application Development of Web-based Information Systems (RADWIS). The existing modular systems on technology, framework and platform level does not fully solve the problems of functionality reuse, rapid application development and balance between the complexity, size and functionality. The proposed modular system addresses these problems in a new way. The current work fills the gap between the modular systems on the framework and platform level. The model uses flexible, reusable modules, which can be built with different technologies. They are installable and shareable with the standard dependency manager of the technology and can communicate using web services. The modules use NoSQL approaches in SQL databases. A workflow engine module, based on the Petri Nets theory, allows a graphical and formal mathematical solution for a wide variety of problems.

Development of Web-Based Information System for Visualization of Three-dimensional Models of Museum Exhibits

In the following article main results are going to be summarized about three-dimensional web development and technologies. An introduction to 3D representation methods that are applied on the featured three-dimensional webpage is going to be presented. Transformation techniques will be described, which convert a traditional two-dimensional webpage into a fully functional three-dimensional platform. The methods and concepts used are based on technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The principle of automatic conversion is going to be showed, upon which almost any two-dimensional webpage can be converted into a 3D website, including minimal manual interaction. Future concept and conclusions are also described.

The SESAMO early warning system for rainfall-triggered landslides

The development of Web-based information systems coupled with advanced monitoring systems could prove to be extremely useful in landslide risk management and mitigation. A new frontier in the field of rainfall-triggered landslides (RTLs) lies in the real-time modelling of the relationship between rainfall and slope stability; this requires an intensive monitoring of some key parameters that could be achieved through the use of modern and often low-cost technologies. This work describes an integrated information system for early warning of RTLs that has been deployed and tested, in a prototypal form, for an Italian pilot site. The core of the proposed system is a wireless sensor network collecting meteorological, hydrological and geotechnical data. Data provided by different sensors and transmitted to a Web-based platform are used by an opportunely designed artificial neural network performing a stability analysis in near real-time or in forecast modality. The system is able to predict whether and when landslides could occur, providing early warnings of potential slope failures. System infrastructure, designed on three interacting levels, encompasses a sensing level, integrating different Web-based sensors, a processing level, using Web standard interoperability services and specifically implemented algorithms, and, finally, a warning level, providing warning information through Web technologies.

Design and development of Web-Based Information System for The Batik Industry

An Information system is any combination of information technology and people's activities using that technology to support operations, management, and decision-making. Some industries need web-based information system. Information system for the batik industry is designed to process data such as text, image, and produce information. The planning of web-based information systems needs a proactive review of the capabilities of the Internet technology to serve the particular needs of the firm and its customers. Process steps for designing the batik industry information system are software architecture, algorithm, data structure, and interface representations. The impact of interaction quality factors on the effectiveness of Web-based information system: the mediating role of user satisfaction

Recently, IS researchers have focused on the assessment of Web-based information system (WBIS) at the individual level as it highly contributes to the organizations' employees. The evaluation and development of WBIS is significantly needed because the top management is in need of justifying their costly IT investment in terms of its impacts on employee performance. For this purpose, this study is primarily concerned with the development and validation of new multidimensional instrument, and also a theoretical framework for assessing the impacts of user interface quality, online communication quality, and user satisfaction on the effectiveness of Web employee portals. The effectiveness is assessed in terms of contextual performance. In a large-scale study, a sample of 384 United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees respondents are gathered in order to validate and check the reliability of the adapted study instrument. The results of validity and reliability analysis provide enough confidence to proceed toward validating the proposed theoretical framework. The results of multiple-regression analysis indicate that there is a positive significant relationship between user interface quality, communication quality, user satisfaction, and effectiveness at significance level (sig. < 0.01). As another important point, the results of hierarchical regression showed that user satisfaction has a mediating role on the relationship between user interface quality, communication quality, and contextual employee performance. The findings and implications of this research are discussed. Finally, it is expected that this study would contribute to empirical studies in the fields of IS and user behavior assessment.

고지도를 이용한 웹기반 정보검색시스템 구축 방안 -경희대학교 혜정박물관 사례를 중심으로-

고지도는 인문학적 자료이면서 과학성을 가진 정보기록의 문화유산이다. 그러나 고지도 정보를 제공하기 위한 웹기반 정보 시스템에 대한 연구는 매우 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구는 고지도를 소장하고 있는 주요기관의 웹사이트에서 제공하는 고지도 자료의 정보현황을 비교 분석하고 이를 효율적이고 체계적으로 통일화된 지도정보를 제공하기 위한 웹기반 정보시스템 구축방안을 모색하였다. 고지도에 대한 정보체계의 구축은 자료의 다양성과 복잡성으로 인하여 분류항목과 정보검색체계의 표준화가 쉽지 않아서 공학적 정보관리의 중요성이 증대하고 있다. 이에 고지도 자료의 인문학적 정보를 전산화하고 체계화하려는 시도와 융합적 통찰은 매우 중요하고 필요하다. 이 연구는 고지도 자료에 대한 인문학적 정보를 전산화 기술과의 융합으로 인문학과 공학이 복합적인 학문으로 발전하는 계기를 제공하는데 연구 의의가 있다. Old maps are a cultural heritage of recorded information with humanities materials and scientific value. However, there is no sufficient study on the development of web-based information system using old maps to provide the old map information. In this study, we analyze the status of the old map information on the website of the main institutions, construct the web-based information systems to provide the unified map information efficiently and systematically. It is not easy to standardize the data categories and information searching method because of the diversity and complexity of old map. So, the importance of engineering information management is growing. Therefore, the attempting to computerized humanistic old map information and the integrated approach is very important and necessary. This study provide an opportunity to combine the humanities and engineering through the convergence between information technology, humanities, and computational engineering.

Engineering E-Collaboration Processes to Obtain Innovative End-User Feedback on Advanced Web-Based Information Systems

In recent years, web-based information systems (WIS) and services have proliferated in all sectors of the economy. Unlike traditional IS, the development of WIS is evolutionary due to unceasing changes in the technological environment, regulation, and user needs. A new discipline, Web Engineering (WE), has emerged to promote systematic and disciplined approaches toward successful development of high-quality and ubiquitously usable WIS. User involvement is also a must for all organizations that aim to stay competitive and provide superior services for their customers. We have designed two structured e-collaboration processes for obtaining innovative end-user feedback on an advanced WIS under continuous evolution. Our feedback processes are purported for the perfective maintenance of WIS, where enhancements such as new functionality or increased efficiency are introduced continuously. We reflect on our experiences of two action research cycles through a Collaboration Engineering (CE) lens, and analyze the usefulness and suitability of the designed processes in these and other contexts. Our study contributes to the WE and CE streams of research by adding to the discussion of user-centered development and WIS evolution employing disciplined methods. For organizations, the developed e-collaboration processes offer novel means to involve end-users in their WIS development process. We believe that the designed processes may be applied in various WIS as well as in traditional IS contexts in different industries.

Web-Based Information System Development for Building Demolition Management

The demolition of buildings produces enormous amounts of waste materials that are hardly reused or recycled and therefore result in significant waste streams to landfills. This research aims to develop a Web-based information system for promoting management methodologies for demolition projects. Instead of the waste materials exchange in current online waste material management systems, this research aims to explore the possibility of exchange of demolition projects, by which the utilization of demolished materials may be ascertained before the demolition action is actually produced. With reference of the needs and difficulties of online drawing acquisition in architecture and building discipline, an online multimedia data acquisition tool is developed to collect the drawing data of a project to be demolished. Following the introduction for developing a Web-based distributed database system, a prototyped information system is demonstrated in detail through the system environment, structure and functions.

A three‐stage model of requirements elicitation for Web‐based information systems

Although requirement elicitation is generally acknowledged to be very important in traditional information systems development (ISD), it does not get enough attention in most Web‐based information systems development (WISD). This paper highlighted the difference between ISD and WISD, and proposed a three‐stage model of user requirements elicitation for Web‐based information systems. This model divides the requirements definition into three stages: initial analysis, key user requirements elicitation and regular user responses. Most current WIS design methodologies consider only initial analysis, and neglect actual users’ requirements. Key user input is emphasized in this model, and social network analysis is proposed as a tool for identifying key users. Requirements analysis for WISD is no longer considered a one‐stop step, but is better regarded as a continuous evolving process. Finally, managerial implications are also provided in this paper.

Our first paper by Tom Butler is an additional contribution to our special issue of last time, Volume 13, Number 2, 2003. We have been impressed by the quality of submissions in our special issues, and we aim to have at least one of these per year. So if you have any suggestions for others, or indeed, if you might edit one in the future, please let us know. But be warned, there is the same rigorous refereeing process as for conventional papers! The question that Tom Butler addresses is whether the development of web-based information systems (IS) gives rise to the same social and organizational problems that arise with other applications development. Readers may not be surprised by the answer – the fundamental nature of IS development processes does not change because the applications happen to be web based. What is particularly interesting, however, is the author's use of institutional theory to illustrate ‘how the commitments of social actors influence and shape organizational endeavours’. The research approach used is case-based research in one organization and this provides an in-depth look at web development. There are numerous citations from the actors, which brings the organization to life. Of course, the potential criticism of such research is that it is more difficult to generalize than, say, a survey of many companies. However, the tradition of the Information Systems Journal (ISJ) is to support in-depth research. John Mingers provides an excellent overview of multimethod research in IS. It might surprise readers to learn that although multimethod research is espoused by many leading researchers in the field, evidence of such research is not common, and even when it does occur, it refers mainly to a mix of traditional approaches. We think that these findings are disappointing, but important. This paper might be usefully read in conjunction with our earlier paper of Joe Nandhakumar and Matthew Jones (1997). The ISJ has been in the forefront of those journals encouraging submissions of papers that offer originality in research approach as well as content and general contribution, and we take this opportunity to state again our welcome for multimethod research, along with other papers that take a less conventional research approach. The third paper of Vassilis Serafeimidis and Steve Smithson returns to a major IS research stream over many years: that of the evaluation of IS. However, unlike most of its predecessors which look at more formal and positivistic characteristics, it concentrates on the organizational roles of the key stakeholders within four evaluation contexts, which they refer to as control, sense-making, learning and exploratory. These are examined as an organization chosen as the case study (a UK insurance company) changes from an ad hoc evaluation practice to a more business-driven one. IS evaluation is seen as a complex, human-centred activity that cannot be divorced from its organizational context. Another important research theme concerns the adoption of IS by organizations. Erja Mustonen-Ollila and Kalle Lyytinen present a longitudinal study that looks at 200 IS process innovation adoption decisions in three organizations (originally part of the same company) over four decades. Although they find that some adoptions can be explained by the factors that Rogers (1995) identified in his classic text, the authors also suggest extensions to Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation theory. However, a major observation from the study is that: ‘a large number of IS process innovation adoptions followed no discernable pattern’. Such challenging conclusions will hopefully lead to other researchers following up this study.

Toward a general model for web-based information systems

Web-based information systems (WIS) are new generation information systems and have recently received considerable attention in systems development. As yet little research has been reported on the general model for analysis and design of WIS. This paper describes an object-oriented model for WIS. Five components that support WIS are discussed. They are: the Web site, business processes, knowledge, the information infrastructure, and software agents. These elements are harmonised into a unified object-oriented paradigm. The proposed WIS model extends traditional information systems analysis into the context of WIS. It could be useful for the development of WIS by organisations in pursuing electronic commerce.
