Niche Heritage Tourism in Stingray Island: The Case of Japanese Defense Heritage in Indonesia

Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the competitiveness of Morotai Island, located in North Maluku, in terms of tourism development potential.
  
 Theoretical Framework: Tourism, defined as the movement of people to increase employment opportunities, local community economies, international trade, export revenue, foreign exchange earnings and investment, is influenced by a variety of social, cultural, and economic variables. Therefore, heritage sites and historic monuments are critical to urban development because they promote a sense of community among citizens while also emphasizing local identity and location.
  
 Method: Empirical research was carried out utilizing an inductive methodology using a variety of primary and secondary data sources.
  
 Results and Discussion: Results indicate that to further strengthen the community and further its tourism and regeneration aims, it could be beneficial for the autonomous organization organizing and overseeing social and cultural events and activities. Furthemore, to develop a range of tourism supporting services, the inventiveness of the region’s tourism entrepreneurs also require training in the early stages of region’s development.
  
 Research Implications: The study implicates an overall belief that improving Morotai's urban and economic landscape through tourism will either keep locals in the area or discourage them from leaving in pursuit of better opportunities and a higher standard of living.
  
 Originality/Value: This study contributes to the community heritage-based tourism as a tool of diversifying its local economic structure. This research precisely to recognize historic-heritage area in as a strategic instrument to develop rural areas.

Navigating Financial Frontiers in the Tourism Economies of Kosovo and Albania during and beyond COVID-19

The problem addressed in this study is the profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism economies of Kosovo (KOS) and Albania (AL), which led to economic–financial stagnation and price increases. The aim was to analyze the financial frontier challenges facing the tourism industry during COVID-19 and beyond and propose effective strategies for shaping a sustainable future for countries within Europe with great potential for tourism development in the current decade. The survey was conducted in 102 locations, including cities, municipalities, regions, villages, and neighborhoods in both countries over the years 2020–2023, while data analysis was performed using a cluster analysis (K-means and hierarchical) and the multidimensional scaling method (Alscal). The results highlighted (a) the severe impact of COVID-19 on both the population and businesses in the tourism sector, which will persist beyond the pandemic, (b) the indispensable role of government intervention in alleviating the financial crisis, (c) the need for innovative approaches and accurate financial management by both the country and businesses to attract tourists, and (d) the importance of control and management for financial sustainability. This paper is of significant importance to tourism destinations as it provides insights into the severe impact of COVID-19 on both the population and businesses in the tourism economies. By highlighting the indispensable role of government intervention, the need for innovative approaches and accurate financial management, and the importance of control and management for financial sustainability, the study offers valuable guidance for tourism destinations in navigating the current crisis and attracting tourists. Furthermore, the paper emphasizes the need for future studies to explore opportunities for long-term financial resilience and growth, contributing to the development of sustainable tourism destinations.

Optimization of Strategic Areas in Regional Economic Recovery: Tourism Perspectives

This research contributes in the form of ideas and modeling of tourism potential development in the region. This research uses Soft System Methodology. This method used 4 stages: The first stage, the problem situation is considered problematic. In the second stage, the problem situation is expressed. The third stage is the root definition of the relevant purposeful activity system. The fourth stage is the conceptual models of the system named in the root definition. Based on the research, it was found that Pangandaran Regency, which is a new autonomous region, has tourism potential that can be developed, especially marine tourism that can support the regional economy. On the other hand, tourism potential is influenced by the geographical condition of Pangandaran Regency which is included in the National Tourism Strategic Area so it is hoped that this program can have a significant impact on regional economic recovery efforts. Based on the Regional Government Plan of Pangandaran 2022, it already has various strategies for tourism development, but it has not been able to run optimally due to the absence of a tourism development model as an economic recovery program.

<p>This research explores the untapped tourism potential of three tranquil villages in Bukit Tengah, Penang, Malaysia. Its overarching strategy is to foster sustainability and economic growth, particularly in the B40 communities of the area. Employing mixed-methods research, the study evaluates tourism products through systematic weighted scoring, questionnaire surveys, and interviews with key informants and tourism stakeholders. The sustainable development theory is used in this study as a conceptual framework for rural tourism development, emphasising the integration of economic, social, and environmental dimensions to ensure long-term viability and benefits for local communities. The results indicate the latent potential for rural tourism development in the three villages, contingent upon garnering local support and collaborating with tourism stakeholders. The study highlights the capacity of rural tourism promotion in generating additional income for the local population, thus promoting both environmental sustainability and community well-being. These findings align with the state government’s goal of achieving balanced tourism growth between the island and Seberang Prai regions. Moreover, this research also aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 8 and 11, recognising the role of tourism in achieving goals such as poverty reduction, environmental sustainability, and community well-being, all of which are relevant to rural tourism development.</p>

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT IN KENDERAN VILLAGE, TEGALLALANG SUB-DISTRICT, GIANYAR REGENCY

Gianyar Regency has many villages that can be relied upon as tourist destinations due to their cultural and natural potential. Kenderan Village has a natural atmosphere with vast stretches of rice fields and hills, which are the main attractions of this village. Various potentials can be developed through ecotourism concepts as tourist attractions. The development of tourist village infrastructure involves the arrangement of the area and environment to maintain its natural state, as well as the optimal development of other supporting tourist facilities that have not been utilized. The aim of this research is to identify the potentials in Kenderan Village (cultural, natural, and village potentials) and to determine the necessary infrastructure for the development of Kenderan Village as a tourist village. This study uses observation, interviews, and documentation as research techniques, employing the SWOT approach. The results of this research show that there are various tourism potentials that can be developed into various attractions and activities, which can be categorized into three types: natural potentials (rice fields, plantations, and natural beauty), cultural potentials (archaeological sites, Beji Telaga Waja, and Pura Griya Sakti Manuaba), and village potentials (Puri Agung Kenderan and traditional settlements). The development of tourism potentials in Kenderan Village is expected to provide optimal benefits for the local community, entrepreneurs, and the government in a sustainable manner, while contributing to environmental preservation.

Management of the 4 A’s of Tourism: Addressing Shortcomings and Enhancing Services in Gebong Memarong Traditional Village

Air Abik hamlet, situated in Gunung Muda village, Belinyu Sub-District, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Indonesia, is renowned for its rich cultural heritage embodied by the Lom tribe, holding immense potential for tourism development as a vibrant tourist village. However, the management of Gebong Memarong, a traditional accommodation facility in the area, faces challenges hindering its optimal operation. This research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing observation, interviews, and documentation analysis to understand the management practices surrounding Gebong Memarong comprehensively. The findings reveal deficiencies in amenities and ancillary services, indicating a critical need for stakeholders’ attention to bolstering support facilities within the tourism village. Furthermore, this research advocates for enhanced managerial competencies to address operational gaps and ensure the sustainable management of homestay facilities. It offers valuable insights into improving accommodation management within culturally significant tourism destinations, with implications for sustainable tourism development strategies in similar contexts.

Development Model of Tourism Communication and Creative Economy Based on Local Culture in East Sumba

As something unique, local culture can be utilized in various fields, one of which is tourism. The development of the tourism industry is characterized by several things, for example there is an increase in community participation to advance the local tourism industry, and the use of the creative economy. This research itself was carried out by looking at the potential that Indonesia has in the tourism and creative economy sectors which still have great potential to be developed further while still supporting the preservation of Indonesia's local culture. The research was carried out at a location in East Sumba, because it has a natural attraction for tourism which is already worldwide, but its development so far has not been optimal. Apart from having natural potential for tourism development, Sumba also has local culture and creative economy products, such as woven fabrics. This research was conducted with the main aim of producing a model for the development of tourism and creative economy based on local culture. This research itself will focus on the use of local culture in the tourism sector and the creative economy in tourism communication studies. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach and case study method. Data was obtained through FGD and interviews with resource persons. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that East Sumba has potential in terms of tourism development, the potential is in the form of natural resources, creative economic products, local culture and infrastructure suggestions. Developing this potential must receive support from the government in the form of development and policy making that favors local communities. Apart from that, tourism development also requires the development of human resources, which therefore requires collaboration between the government and local communities.

The Role of Government and the Community in the Development of Morea Pond Tourism in Larike Village, West Leihitu District, Central Maluku Regency

Tourism holds significant potential as an economic revenue source and a driver of development in regions. One of the tourist destinations with the potential for continuous development in the eastern part of Indonesia is the Morea Pond tourism destination in Larike Village, West Leihitu District, Central Maluku Regency. This research aims to analyze the roles of the government and the community in the efforts to develop the tourism destination in the Maluku Province. The research methodology employs a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the government plays a role as a facilitator, motivator, and educator in promoting the development of Morea Pond tourism. This involves providing information and creating a conducive tourism climate, offering facilities to support the development of tourism potential, and educating the community through tourism-related training. The government also maintains environmental conservation, ensures order and security, and enhances the beauty of the tourist location. Additionally, the community contributes to the development of the Morea Pond tourism site by cultivating entrepreneurial skills such as culinary businesses, participating in tourism training to provide services for tourists, and serving as guides in performances at the Morea Pond tourism location.

Application of Environmental Protection Principle in Developing Tourism Potentials of Ebonyi State

The study assessed the application of environmental protection principles in Ebonyi State's tourism potentials. A field survey was conducted in Ebonyi South and North senatorial districts, with a sample size of 560 respondents. The research found that key tourism players in the state have not fully applied environmental protection principles to ensure the distribution of tourism resources. The study concluded that the environmental protection principle is not fully applied in the development of tourism potentials, and recommended that key players should strive to apply it as a sustainable development principle to create a connection between the environment and tourism.

The Key Tourism Area Potential for Tourism Development in Buton Regency - Southeast Sulawesi

Buton Regency is in the eastern part of Indonesia, rich in tourism resources, however, tourism development cannot be carried out comprehensively due to budget limitations and the size of the area. This research aims to determine which areas can be used as key areas for tourism development based on their existing tourism supply. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method approach, using primary and secondary data in the form of literature studies, and interviews with local governments, academics, and local communities. The results show that the Pasarwajo District is an area with the most potential tourism supply to be used as a key tourism area in Buton Regency. The Promotion and Development Direction of Cultural Tourism Industry for the Recovery of Xi'an's Tourism Industry in the Post Epidemic Era

Impacted by the epidemic, Chinese all aspect of economy including tourism has been influenced deeply between 2019 and 2022. In order to recover Chinese economy under post-pandemic era, tourism needs to learn from the pandemic and previous developments and innovate to quickly return to pre-pandemic conditions. Our group focus on Xians cultural tourism industry, which is one of the characteristic places of Chinese cultural tourism, in order to fine its cultural tourism development potential and give some suggestion to improve its attraction and competitiveness and to maximize its economic benefits. By analyzing the data from Xinhua News Agency and other authority website and investigating the development status of Xi'an's cultural industry, we find out that Xian needs to overcome the problems of low profit from tourism revenue, lack professional personnel, serious loss and difficult recovery and the impact of the lingering temperature of the epidemic. In terms of the questions, Xian should change from the aspects of increasing the rate of economic profit conversion, enhancing the professional quality of employees, carrying out crowd control and taking advantage of policy advantages and opportunities. In conclusion, we hope our research could provide inspiration and guidance for the subsequent development of Xi'an's cultural industry.

Study of Environmental Carrying Capacity on Three Potential Tourism Destinations of Lumajang Regency, East Java

Lumajang Regency in East Java Province has significant potential for tourism development due to its intersection with the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS). The purpose of this research is to assess the Environmental Carrying Capacity (DDTL) of toruism area to provide a foundation for sustainable tourism development planning in Lumajang Regency. The research focuses on three tourist destinations: Ranu Pane, Wotgalih Beach, and Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. The method used is the DDTL calculation approach by Cifuentes (1992), which includes Physical Carrying Capacity (PCC), Real Carrying Capacity (RCC), and Effective Carrying Capacity (ECC). Data was collected through observation, literature study, and interviews with key stakeholders. The analysis results display the PCC, RCC, and ECC values in sequence for each location: Ranu Pane (9,941; 1,228; 1,228), Wotgalih Beach (1,641; 1,068; 1,068), and Tumpak Sewu Waterfall (312; 25; 25). The ECC value can serve as a metric for measuring the DDTL status of tourist locations in comparison to the average number of tourists. Ranu Pane and Wotgalih Beach have an ECC value greater than 1,000 when compared to the average number of tourists, which ranges from 500 to 900 people per day. Therefore, their status has not yet exceeded the DDTL. In contrast, Tumpak Sewu Waterfall has an ECC value of less than 50 with an average number of tourists exceeding 100 people per day, and its status is classified as having exceeded the DDTL limit. These results can be considered by the Lumajang Regency Government when planning the development of tourist destinations.

Checking the validity of the data has been done through triangulation of sources. The research subjects include elements of the government, private sector, axademics , mass media, communities, and local communities in Karangasem and Ngrombo Tourism Village. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique was compiled interactively including the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and concluding. Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), academics, private sector, mass media, tourism awareness groups, youth organizations, and local communities. The collaborative governance process that occurs through face-to-face dialogue, trust building, commitment to the process, shared understanding, and intermediate outcomes have made a positive contribution to increasing the acceleration of tourism potential development and promotion based on digital platforms from Karangasem and Ngrombo Tourism Villages. However, some challenges must be managed better in the aspect of building trust in the management of Karangasem and Ngrombo Tourism Village because there are different backgrounds and priority interests of each actor involved. In addition, long-term sustainable interventions need to be carried out on aspects of commitment to the process and shared understanding to have a multiplier effect on the outcome in the future. The results of this study are expected to provide real implications for the management of the Karangasem and Ngrombo Tourism Village and the Karangasem and Ngrombo Village Government to innovate in accelerating the promotion and commercialization of Karangasem and Ngrombo village tourism products.

Natural potentials of tourism development and its problems in Darbandikhan district

Natural potential for tourism development and its problems in the Darbandikhan district. This research is entitled “Natural potential for tourism development and its problems in the Darbandikhan district ”.The aim is to identify and analyze the natural resources and issues in front of the development of tourism in Darbandikhan district. In order to achieve this objective, the research adopts descriptive and analytical methods with depicting results of the questionarie form which has conducted in direct and electronic way for a six month period. The analysis of datas were shown in tables, maps, and pictures. Finally, the study reached a number of results: the most important of which are Darbandikhan ows several natural resources for the development of tourism in the area. But many problems are obstacles to the development of tourism in the research area, especially the lack of economic infrastructure services, especially roads, was mentioned by more than (39.1%) and the lack of tourism services by (27.2%), the least problem mentioned by tourists was security (2.5%), which is due to the establishment of security in the studied area. At the end, several recommendations were presented to solve the problems and plan the future of the darbandikhan district, such as repairing roads, solving property problems, providing accommodation, restaurants,hotel, ... etc, which will lead to an increase in the number of tourists and development of tourism sector in the studied area.

Integgration of the Structural Equation Model Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) and ANFIS neuro-fuzzy approach for creating a local wisdom-based tourism development model, case study of the Prabu Siliwangi tourist attraction, West Java, Indonesia

<p>Tourism has become one of the most important economic sectors in Indonesia. Indonesia, with its natural wealth, culture, and historical heritage, has attracted the attention of tourists from various parts of the world. One of the provinces that has great potential for tourism development is West Java. The purpose of the research is to formulate a tourism development model based on local wisdom in the tourism location of Prabu Siliwangi. The analysis method used in this research is the use of Structural Equation Model Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) and ANFIS neuro-fuzzy analysis. Composite reliability above 0.7 GoF value of 0.725 means that the model is very good (has a high ability) in explaining empirical data. The accuracy of the model produced is 97.1% which shows that the input data in the model can represent the real data in the field.</p>

Evaluation and Spatiotemporal Differentiation of Cultural Tourism Development Potential: The Case of the Middle and Lower Reaches of the Yellow River

Cultural tourism development potential (CTDP) is the future value and supporting force of the environmental value, economic and social efficiency, innovation ability and supporting system of cultural tourism. At present, there are few relevant studies on CTDP, but the research results on the tourism development potential of cultural heritage are relatively rich, and the existing evaluation methods lack comprehensiveness, dynamics and visualization. Based on systems theory and sustainable development theory, this article attempts to innovate and collect time series data through the entropy method, multi-index comprehensive evaluation method, spatial kernel density estimation method, and centroid transferring model. The temporal and spatial evolution characteristics and the CTDP of 43 cities in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River are examined and analyzed. It is found that the CTDP in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River is divided into five levels; the overall potential intensity of the research area is small and has significant spatial differences; influenced by the time factor, the interaction and spatial correlation of within the research area are significant; the development of regional cultural tourism has strong regional dependence in the short range. The center of potential gradually moves to the geometric center. This study is significant for promoting the sustainable development of economic tourism in cradles of world civilization.
