The impact of carbon emission trading schemes on China’s economic inequalities between and within urban and rural areas based on the satellite data: a county-level analysis

ABSTRACT Although China’s carbon emission trading schemes (CETS) garnered significant attention in the field of climate mitigation, limited data availability has hindered exploration into the impact of CETS on economic inequality at the county level in China. Given its potential to facilitate industrial upgrading and generate employment opportunities, the adoption of CETS holds promise for reducing economic inequality. To address data limitations, we employed a combination of gridded nighttime light data and land use data to estimate China’s county-level Dagum Gini coefficient and its components. Subsequently, we applied a difference-in-difference-in-difference method to examine how CETS affected economic inequalities between and within urban and rural areas in China. Our findings reveal that: (1) CETS significantly reduced overall economic inequality in counties with a high proportion of secondary industry output; (2) this reduction primarily occurred within urban and rural areas rather than between them. Further heterogeneity analysis demonstrates that while CETS effectively mitigated economic inequality between urban and rural areas in central and western regions, it did not achieve similar outcomes in the eastern region; (3) service industry development and rural GDP per capita served as important channels through which CETS reduced economic inequality within rural areas. Infrastructure development driven by CETS primarily addressed economic inequality within urban areas rather than rural areas.

Research on the Driving Factors for the Application of Energy Performance Contracting in Public Institutions

Building energy efficiency in public institutions is crucial for achieving energy conservation and emissions reduction goals. The application of energy performance contracting (EPC) can effectively reduce energy consumption in these buildings and promote the development of the energy-saving service industry. However, there is a lack of initiative among public institutions to adopt EPC. This study aims to investigate the factors that drive the intention and behavior of public institutions to apply EPC and enhance their proactive engagement in building energy efficiency retrofitting. By considering the current status of EPC application in public institutions and drawing on relevant decision-making and behavioral theories, this paper identifies the key factors that drive the intention and behavior of public institutions, and constructs a theoretical model of the intentional and behavioral driving factors. In the empirical testing phase, research data are collected through online questionnaires. Structural equation modeling is employed to validate and analyze the extent of the driving factors and their interrelationships. The key findings are that (1) perceived usefulness, trust, and perceived risk significantly drive the behavior intention of public institutions to apply EPC; (2) perceived behavioral control and perceived ease of use significantly positively drive the behavior of public institutions, with behavior intention being the most influential factor; and (3) policy system and organizational support play a significant moderating role in the process from intention to behavior. Based on these findings, this paper proposes the critical tasks and suggests countermeasures for stakeholders in EPC projects.

Research on the Evaluation of the High-Quality Development of the Modern Service Industry under the Background of Reduction Development: A Case Study of Beijing

With the popularization and practice of the concept of reduction development, how to accurately and comprehensively evaluate the high-quality development effect of the modern service industry has become crucial. This paper combines the concept of reduction development and high-quality development. According to the specific background of reduction development, this paper constructs the evaluation index system of high-quality development of the modern service industry in the context of reduction development from the four dimensions of total scale control, urban function strengthening, economic quality improvement and livable environment optimization and puts forward the evaluation model of high-quality development of the modern service industry based on the entropy weight TOPSIS method. Taking Beijing’s modern service industry as an example, our empirical analysis showed that from 2008 to 2021, its high-quality development level showed a steady upward trend. The total scale has been effectively controlled, and the service industry has performed well in employment absorption. Scientific and technological innovation and cultural functions have developed significantly, but the level of openness needs to be improved. Economic quality maintained stable development, and the livable environment also showed a good development trend.

A Task Offloading Method Based on User Satisfaction in C-RAN With Mobile Edge Computing

With the continuous development of the communication service industry, users pay more attention to the quality of network service. Previous studies on offloading problems, especially in the Cloud Radio Access Network (C-RAN) architecture with Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), are primarily focused on the economic perspective, with little consideration given to user-oriented satisfaction problems. To fill this gap, this paper proposes a mathematical model for maximizing user satisfaction in the C-RAN architecture with multi-layer MEC. The problem is divided into two stages for solution. The first stage addresses the optimal connection problem between users and Remote Radio Heads (RRHs). The second stage then schedules user tasks reasonably based on the solution obtained in the first stage. The two-stage problems are all proved to be NP-Hard. Two efficient approximation algorithms, namely User-to-RRH Association Algorithm (URAA) and Maximum Satisfaction Algorithm (MSA), are proposed to solve the problems in different stages. This paper proves and analyzes the theoretical performance of the two algorithms. Finally, the performance of the proposed algorithms is verified by simulation experiments. The experimental results demonstrate that the two proposed algorithms can achieve reasonable solutions to the problems, and the user satisfaction level can be maintained at a high level.

Innovation in the service sector promotes China's position in the global value chain

Under the background of economic globalization, accelerating the opening up of the service industry is an important hand in shaping new advantages in international competition and cooperation under the new situation, and the service industry has become the main driving force of the world's economic growth, and an important indicator of a country's international competitiveness. The level of development of China's service industry is still far from the leading level in the international arena, which to some extent affects China's improvement in its position in the global value chain. For this reason, this project intends to combine the KPWW method of accounting research, Hausmann, Hwang and Rodrik (2007) and other research methods to jointly explore the mechanism and countermeasures of the opening up of the service industry to promote the improvement of China's position in the global value chain.

Government Policy or Market Mechanism, Which Is Better for Chinese Private Rocket Enterprises

In 2015, Chinese Government issued the<i> Notice on the National Civil Space Infrastructure Medium - and Long-Term Development Plan (2015-2025)</i>, announcing that it would support and guide social capitals to participate in the application and development of national civil space infrastructure construction. Later, Chinese private companies are allowed to apply for launch licenses, breaking the traditional model of allocating funds from the state budget and developing rockets only by the "national teams". Many Chinese private rocket companies were registered and established afterwards, and some of them have successfully launched rockets several times in recent years. At the same time, Chinese private rocket enterprises are also facing with many problems, including the low success rate of rockets, the risk of rocket debris falling, high space insurance rates, space junk, talent competition, and corporate survival, etc. In 2023, the Chinese Government issued <i>Notice on Strengthening the License Management for Civil Space Launch Projects</i>, which requires the third-party liability insurance policy and space debris mitigation plan for launch licenses application, meanwhile the last sub-stage of the launch vehicle should de-orbit according to the regulations after taking measures such as passivation, using government policy tools to regulate and guide the development of private rockets. In conclusion, in order to promote the healthy development of commercial launch service industry, the market mechanism should play a leading role, while appropriately regulation and adjustment from the government policy are also needed. In addition, this paper also suggested that the Chinese government should carry out overall planning for the division of labor and product models of state-owned and private rocket companies.

Selected Prospects for the Development of the Ukraine Economy in the Context of Wartime Demographic Transformations

The full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation has had a significant impact on the country's development dynamics. This was particularly reflected in the demographic potential: rising mortality rates, falling birth rates and the highest rates of internal and external migration since independence. Such transformations, combined with the challenges of the times, have been reflected in the economic space, both negatively and positively. This paper analyses the current demographic and economic situation, compares them with the period before the active military confrontation, and examines public attitudes and international experience in overcoming similar crises. This analysis was carried out by studying the main statistical data on the above processes. The international experience was reviewed by studying scientific publications and reports from expert organisations. The study showed that the continuation of the conflict could lead to a significant aggravation of regional disparities, the rapid development of service industries, including the digital sector and the military industry, a shift away from focussing on low value-added goods, and a crisis in sectors with low labour productivity. Although the demographic crisis will continue to deepen, it is expected to stabilise at a new level after the active phase of the war is over. The current set of prospects is generally positive but requires a proactive approach and constant review to accelerate the transformation process and strengthen the potential of the Ukrainian economy.

Regional differences and dynamic evolution of high-quality development in service industry: A case study of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.

The high-quality development of service industry has become an important engine for promoting sustainable economic development. This paper first constructed the evaluation index system of high-quality development of service industry, based on panel data from 2005 to 2020. Second, Kernel density, Markov chain and Dagum Gini coefficient were used to represent the regional differences and dynamic evolution of service industry, and the Koo method was used to explore the characteristics of spatial agglomeration. Finally, social network analysis was used to identify core indicators. The study found that: (1) From 2005 to 2020, the overall level of service industry first decreases and then increases, with Chengdu and Chongqing leading other cities. (2) The development of service industry in the CCEC has large spatial differences, mainly due to inter-regional differences. (3) The level of spatial agglomeration is less variable, with high agglomeration mainly in Chengdu. (4) Indicators such as the level of human capital are the core factors of its high-quality development. This study is of great theoretical and practical significance for the optimization and upgrading of service industry in the CCEC and the synergetic development of the region.

Research on the trend and optimization path of China’s older adult service industry

With the intensification of the aging population trend, China is facing an increasingly growing demand for older adult care services. As an important field that meets the needs of the older adult, the development of the older adult care service industry is of significant importance for social stability and the well-being of the older adult. This paper examines the trends and optimization paths of the older adult care service industry in China. It aims to analyze the current situation, problems, and causes of the industry, and propose corresponding policy adjustment recommendations. Through comparative analysis of scholars’ viewpoints, the paper redefines the connotation and scope of the older adult care service industry, emphasizing the characteristics of its compound industrial system. The analysis reveals that the current Chinese older adult care service industry is characterized by a small scale, single functionality, narrow coverage, short industrial chain, and a lack of policy support and rational resource allocation. Policy adjustment recommendations are proposed, including top-level institutional design, improvement of the social security system, and the formation of a comprehensive industrial system, in order to promote the development of the older adult care service industry. These recommendations not only promote the expansion of industry scale and the expansion of functionality, but also enhance the quality and effectiveness of older adult care services to meet the diverse needs of the older adult. The value of this paper lies in its in-depth analysis of the current situation of the older adult care service industry in China and the proposal of specific and feasible policy adjustment recommendations, providing important guidance for government departments and practitioners. The research findings can provide beneficial references for the sustainable development of the older adult care service industry, further promoting the progress of the social economy and the healthy development of an aging society.

Study on the spillover effect of digital economy development on CO2 emissions

To study the spillover effect of the digital economy development on carbon emissions, this study innovatively constructs different spatial weight matrices, based on 2011–2020 panel data covering 30 Chinese provinces, and it explores the direct spillovers, conducted spillovers, and spillovers from different spillover channels, such as human capital, service industry development, and information development of digital economy development on carbon emissions through the spatial Durbin model combined with a mediating effect model. The results show that there is significant spatial heterogeneity in digital economy development; in terms of regions, the eastern region has the highest average development level and the central region has the highest average annual growth rate. Digital economy development can directly suppress carbon emissions, and it can also indirectly suppress carbon emissions by driving technological innovation and optimizing the energy consumption structure, and there exists a spatial spillover effect. Under human capital, service industry development and information development matrices, the spatial spillover effect of digital economy development on carbon emissions is significantly negative. Regions with the same level of information development are more likely to exert a spatial spillover effect of digital economy development on carbon emissions.

The influence of knowledge-intensive service industry agglomeration in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration on regional economy

Knowledge-intensive service industry has become an important part of social economy, which not only promotes the innovation of modern service industry, but also promotes the upgrading and transformation of manufacturing industry. The agglomeration of knowledge-intensive service industry is not only the inevitable result of economic growth, but also the premise of sustained economic growth. Moreover, China's national economy is transforming from an industrialized economy to a service-oriented and knowledge-based economy, and the importance of knowledge-intensive service industry is increasing day by day. This paper constructs a theoretical framework of the influence of population agglomeration on the economic development of urban agglomerations. The article holds that population agglomeration promotes the economic development of urban agglomerations through the upgrading of industrial structure and the promotion of human capital. In the future, we need to focus on the similarities and differences between population agglomeration and economic development of urban agglomerations in central China, explore the factors of economic development of urban agglomerations, and provide reasonable suggestions for the government to formulate relevant economic policies. This paper, from an innovative research perspective, based on the perspective of population agglomeration, studies the path of its role in regional economic development, which can make up for this defect to some extent. Moreover, the research object has been innovated and the research method has been improved. On the basis of the above, the panel data of the Yangtze River Delta from 2012 to 2021 is selected as the research sample, the location entropy index is taken as the explanatory variable, the regional gross domestic product (GDP) is taken as the explanatory variable, and the rationality of economic theory and the significance of econometric test are considered. Finally, the data are analyzed and tested by regression. The empirical analysis of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration proves the importance of knowledge-intensive service industry agglomeration to regional economic development. Finally, based on the contribution of knowledge-intensive service industry agglomeration to regional economy, the development of knowledge-intensive service industry and the promotion of industrial agglomeration are studied.

Study on the Mechanism and Path of Synergistic Development of Manufacturing and Service Industries in the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao

The paper explores the level of synergistic agglomeration of the advanced manufacturing industry and logistics service industry in the Greater Bay Area from 2015 to 2018 through the spatial Gini coefficient and industrial agglomeration index. The results of the study show that the level of agglomeration and specialization of individual industries in some manufacturing industries in the Greater Bay Area is relatively high, and individual industries in the logistics industry have formed a certain scale of agglomeration, but there is still a certain gap compared with the manufacturing industry, and the level of agglomeration needs to be improved. Finally, it puts forward suggestions to promote the development of a synergistic agglomeration of the advanced manufacturing industry and logistics industry in the Greater Bay Area.

Research on the Quality Development of Qingdao Tourism Based on GIS

With the transformation and upgrading of industrial structure and the increasing development of service industry, tourism is becoming more and more important for the proportion of regional economic development. In recent years, Qingdao tourism develops rapidly, while promoting regional development, tourism chaos appears. For the high quality development of Qingdao tourism, it is very important to think about the existing problems and solve the problems encountered in the development of tourism. This paper will make a gray correlation analysis on various factors affecting the development of Qingdao tourism: resource advantage, infrastructure and market demand, analyze the impact of different factors on the development of Qingdao tourism, and draw a conclusion: The grey correlation degree of the total number of domestic tourists, air and railway passenger volume ranks the top three, indicating that these three factors play an important role in Qingdao's tourism development. The correlation degree between star-rated hotels and tourism development is the least, indicating that their impact on tourism development is not as great as expected. At the same time, combined with climate, policy and other factors, this paper puts forward suggestions for Qingdao's tourism development.

Digital Economy Empowering the Transformation of Hainan's Modern Service Industry

In the context of the digital economy, the development of Hainan's modern service industry faces problems such as rising resource factor costs, shortage of high-quality talents, low service efficiency, and slow industrial digital transformation. Based on the connotation of digital economy empowering the transformation of modern service industry, starting from the development status of Hainan's modern service industry, this article uses SPSS software to research and analyze the influencing factors of Hainan's modern service industry transformation under digital economy empowerment, and then proposes countermeasures for the main influencing factors. This study found that technological innovation capabilities, employee quality, brand reputation, market demand and consumer trends were the main influencing factors for the transformation of Hainan's modern service industry under the empowerment of the digital economy. This article puts forward corresponding transformation suggestions for these influencing factors.

Перспективы технологического развития нефтесервиса для освоения нефтегазовых месторождений арктического Севера

The article discusses the key challenges associated with the economic development of the oilfield service industry within the climatic, geological, and infrastructural conditions of the Arctic. The evaluation of the Arctic's contribution to the total hydrocarbon production in Russia is an important research problem, which is particularly relevant amidst the current international political tensions. The study aims to unveil aspects of research and development (R&D) prospects of oilfield services in Russia's Arctic regions and adjacent territories. The research identifies characteristic features of economic development associated with economic activity risks. These include infrastructure and technological constraints linked to the distance from federal R&D and industrial centers; insufficient financial resources and experience for large project implementation by local authorities; the intricacy and labor intensity of work, coupled with a shortage of specialists possessing the necessary skills. The study establishes that the complexity of developing Arctic oil and gas fields is mitigated by the application of innovations and highlights the vulnerability of domestic companies to import supplies, which are currently inaccessible due to Western sanctions. The results presented offer a comprehensive view of the promising facets of the innovation-driven and technological development of the oilfield services industry in the Arctic. They propose specific measures geared towards enhancing production efficiency in the oil and gas and oilfield services sectors for implementation by the government. The study's conclusions constitute its scientific novelty and affirm that the sector under consideration is characterized by the following aspects: 1) the demanding nature of work necessitating substantial financial assets and professional competencies of often scarce labor market participants, alongside the utilization of innovative technologies to curtail production costs; and 2) a constrained pool of oil and gas market participants diminishing competition in the oilfield services market and enabling vertically integrated oil companies to dictate prices to service organizations, thus limiting opportunities for the industry's innovation-driven and technological development. The study's conclusions hold significant practical potential and are recommended for incorporation into territorial, regional, and federal programs for the social and economic development of Arctic regions. These findings contribute to the innovation-driven and technological revitalization of the oilfield services industry, an integral element in developing the resource base of Northern territories. Additionally, they provide avenues for further scientific exploration, delving into logistic, financial, technological, corporate, and other economic aspects specific to participants in forthcoming development processes.

Measurement and spatial-temporal convergence analysis of high-quality development of service industry: new city-level evidence in China

This research constructs an index system to measure the level of high-quality development of service industry in Chinese cities at the prefecture-level, and uses the entropy-weighted TOPSIS method to measure it. The spatial convergence model is also used to analyze the spatial and temporal convergence of service industries in urban agglomerations, and to analyze their regional differences and spatial and temporal convergence characteristics. It is found that there are regional differences in the level of service industry development in Chinese cities, showing conditional beta convergence characteristics. Further, the convergence of high-quality development of service industry is decomposed in the dimension of five intrinsic factors of high-quality industrial development. It is concluded that the spatial-temporal convergence presented by the high-quality development of service industry mainly comes from industrial restructuring, industrial synergy development and industrial environment optimization. The results show that the institutional factors of “active government” and “efficient market” significantly contribute to the improvement of the quality development of urban services, after add the institutional factors of fiscal decentralization and marketization. And the research based on spatial spillover effects find that the convergence of service development among cities is mainly based on the “Yardstick Competition” of convergence. These results contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the level of quality development of China’s urban service industry, also provide a reference for policy formulation for coordinated regional development and the construction of a unified national market.

Evidence-based equilibrium analysis of two-sided market in food delivery industry

The food delivery service market is growing rapidly, driven by the increasing demand for online platforms. This study focuses on the crucial issue of determining appropriate delivery fees to ensure sustainable development of the delivery service industry. The choice experiment analysis is used to examine the platform-based market structure and determine the pricing principles from the perspectives of individual customers and restaurant owners. The results define appropriate utility-based equilibrium service prices, estimated to be less than 10% of the total expenses, even to be less than 7% for multipoint services. This data-driven analysis provides meaningful implications for both service users and platform companies for comprehensive understanding of the market structure.

Do Islamic Financial Industry Players Implement Islamic Values in Their Business?

This study aims to identify Islamic values in Islamic financial industry players in Indonesia. The development of the Islamic financial services industry in 2021 showed positive growth with an increase in assets of 13.8% (Rp2.05 trillion) compared to 2020 which only reached Rp1.80 trillion. Meanwhile, the results of the study revealed that Islamic financial industry players organizationally commit many violations or fraud both organizationally and individually. Islamic values derived from the Quran and Hadith are a guide and reference for all Muslims, including Islamic financial industry players. There are four criteria of Islamic fundamental values and nine of Islamic value principles in business. Research methods were conducted through quantitative research with the distribution of questionnaires. The population of Islamic financial industry players are Islamic banking, Islamic insurance, Islamic capital markets, and non-bank financial institutions. The results show that Islamic values have not been fully implemented by Islamic financial industry players.

Research on Employment Effect of FDI in Service Industry in Jiangsu Province

In recent years, the global foreign direct investment (FDI) has shown a “service-oriented” trend, and the labor force has gradually begun to flow to the service industry. Introducing FDI into service industry can not only absorb part of employment with its job-creation effect, but also promote the improvement of employment quality. Under the guidance of market demand and the government, the proportion of FDI in China's service sector has gradually increased, and the service sector and service trade have become a new driving force for China's economic growth. The development of service industry in Jiangsu province has always been in a leading position in China. Meanwhile, Jiangsu province is also one of the main provinces where labor force gathers. Therefore, it is of theoretical and practical significance to study the employment effect of FDI in service industry in Jiangsu Province for relieving employment pressure and promoting the efficient use of FDI. This study firstly combs the relevant literature at home and abroad, which is divided into two aspects of employment quantity and employment quality. On this basis, the paper analyzes the mechanism of service FDI's influence on employment from these two levels and constructs the theoretical basis of this study. Secondly, this study analyzes the current situation of FDI and employment in service industry in Jiangsu Province. Then, empirical analysis is made on the data of Jiangsu province from 2007 to 2020, and the conclusion is drawn that FDI in service industry in Jiangsu Province can not only promote the increase of employment quantity in service industry, but also promote the improvement of employment quality in service industry. Based on the above analysis, this study puts forward relevant suggestions on how to make more efficient use of FDI to drive employment effect in Jiangsu province.

THE IMPACT OF THE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVE SERVICE INDUSTRY ON THE INCOME GAP BETWEEN URBAN AND RURAL RESIDENTS: EVIDENCE FROM 276 CHINESE PREFECTURE-LEVEL CITIES

Based on the panel data of 276 prefecture-level cities in China from 2009 to 2018, this paper explores the impact of the agricultural productive service industry on the income gap between urban and rural residents by constructing the spatial econometric model and threshold regression model. The results show that the development of the agricultural productive service industry has a significant spatial spillover effect, which has a significant restraining effect on widening the income gap between urban and rural residents in the neighboring areas. Developing the agricultural productive service industry in the eastern and central regions significantly narrows the income gap between urban and rural residents. There is a significant urbanization threshold effect on the impact of the agricultural productive service industry on the income gap between urban and rural residents. When the urbanization level crosses the threshold of 3.7469, the role of the agricultural productive service industry in reducing the income gap between urban and rural residents increases significantly. Therefore, this paper proposes accelerating the development of the agricultural productive service industry, improving the urban–rural integration mechanism, strengthening the coordinated development between regions and playing the external effects of the agricultural productive service industry.
