THE FORMATION OF SIGHTSEEING AND TOURISM IN THE 1920s. THROUGH INITIATIVES OF LOCAL HISTORY OF INBELCULT

In this article author says about the formation and developement of local history in BSSR in 1920s.. The study of local history was very important to the process of collecting and systematizing local knowledge for future touristic routes. The formation of tourism activity in the BSSR began with the development of local history, which in the BSSR was managed by the CBK under Inbelkult. The main means of communication between the management of the CBK and local history lovers was the magazine "Nash Kraj", which reflected the main trends and achievements in the study of local history at that time. Initially, special attention was paid to the study and preservation of architectural and historical heritage, but since 1926 a reorientation of local studies on "socially useful" topics were observed. Excursion routes were subsequently built on the basis of the knowledge collected by local historians.

On the history of local history of Smolensk region

The main goals and objectives of those who are engaged in the study of local history, is not only educational activities, but also historical, cultural and environmental. For several decades in the study of such science as local history, researchers have made great strides, significantly increasing public interest. The concept of local lore as it developed was divided into several branches of knowledge, such as literary local lore, historical, geographical, and the like. In this paper, we will focus on the results that have been achieved by historical science to date and consider the development of local history on the example of Smolensk region.

 The history of the formation and development of the local history movement in Karakalpakstan is a poorly studied topic in native historiography. Thus, it has recently been of increasing interest from our scientists. A significant increase of researchers' interest to the problem of regional studies is currently reflected in the need of the making comprehensive works on the history of particular cities and regions of Karakalpakstan. In modern conditions, when the revival of the local history movement, begun in the 1920s, continues, the success of this initiative is not possible without resorting to the history of the formation and development of native local history.

Memorials of a library

The history of Southport Public Library from its foundation in 1875 is outlined. The achievements of its Librarian from 1934 to 1964, B.T.W. Stevenson, are discussed and major issues during his tenure noted. Notable local personalities are noted in relation to the Library, in particular the work of local historians and of F.H. Cheetham especially. The development of local history and of the range of enquiries received in the Library are discussed in reference to the Library’s surviving archives.
