Development and Operation of the Dalian Cruise Port in China

China's cruise industry has developed rapidly in the past ten years, and China's cruise port construction has flourished. A total of 20 cities along the coast of mainland China have built or planned to build cruise terminals. According to WTO estimates, China will gradually become the world's largest source country of cruise passengers and cruise travel consumers in the future. Due to different national conditions, the business model and development prospects of Chinese cruise ports are different from those of foreign ports. It requires finding the pioneers of domestic cruise ports to take the lead, providing advice on the development and operation of cruise ports. Dalian Cruise Port is actively formulating its cruise industry development plan, expanding the cruise port, and improving the supporting facilities in the cruise port area. Based on the characteristics of the operation of the Dalian cruise port, we use the gray model to make a vague prediction of the future development of the cruise port. It reflects the advanced operation mode of Dalian Port. This research systematically analyzed cruise port operations and maritime cruise transportation. Because the cruise port's business model and prospects are essential to the cruise port industry, China's cruise ports must learn more advanced operating models.

Design of Cruise Tourism Competitiveness Evaluation System in Port City

Based on comprehensive consideration of the internal and external conditions of cruise ports, the paper constructs a competitiveness evaluation system of cruise ports. The results show that the ports of developed cities in China have reached a high level, but the level of ports in developing cities is still poor. Furthermore, suggestions on enhancing the competitiveness of cruise ports are put forward, including accurately positioning port functions, improving related supporting facilities, improving service levels and building distinctive port brands.

Sustainability assessment of cruise-industry development: a case study of Xiamen, China

ABSTRACT Sustainability is crucial in the business world, however, sustainability assessment methods based on an understanding of the business–environment relationship are lacking. This study developed a stepwise, cyclic approach employing a multi-dimensional decision-making method and applied it to assess the sustainability of cruise-industry development in Xiamen, one of the leading cruise homeports in China. This assessment addressed five dimensions, namely economic, social, resource, environmental, and ecological. Based on multi-dimensional assessments of regional socioeconomic characteristics, the natural environment, industry development, and the interactions between them, we found that Xiamen offers appropriate conditions for sustainable cruise-industry development. However, the development of the hinterlands is limited; thus, we suggest highlighting local resources through itinerary designs, supporting the development of the hinterlands, conserving natural resources, and minimizing the ecological impacts of cruise ship repair and maintenance. This approach to assessment can systematically and effectively promote sustainability-oriented decision-making within the cruise industry.

한국 크루즈 산업의 발전을 위한 사례 분석 : 중국 크루즈 산업 동향을 중심으로

The purpose of this study is to develop policy suggestions and provide best practices for promoting Korea’s cruise industry through comparative analysis on China cruise industrial polices. Cruise tourism is one of the world’s fastest growing tourist activities and cruise industry has high economic effects. As a main player of the rapidly growing Asian cruise market, China has implemented various policies at the government level to promote the cruise industry. China government established cruise test-beds and institutions specialized in cruise industry such as China Cruise & Yacht Industry Association and Shanghai International Cruise Business Institute. Furthermore, China government developed cruise industry plans to promote and improve both hardware and software of China cruise industry. On the other hand, cruise industrial policy in Korea focused on hardware such as developing cruise port terminal, and there is a lack of an integrated national cruise industrial policy including human resource, marketing, financing plan. Therefor Korea government also has to establish and implement comprehensive plans and programs for sustainable development of cruise industry.

The Protection of Cruise Passengers and the Athens Convention

The partly application of the Athens Convention 1974 by Shanghai Maritime Court in Miss Yang v Cruise PLC reflected some problems relating to the application of the Athens Convention 1974 in China and its protection for the cruise passengers. With the popularization of cruise vacation and the development of cruise industry, issues relating to the protection of cruise passengers gain growing attentions. Law application and jurisdiction is essential for the protection of cruise passengers. This paper will discuss the need for legal protection of cruise passengers versus carriers, and explore the application of the Athens Convention 1974 to cruise passengers, in particular, the relations between its application and choice of law, its protection for passengers in choosing the court. This paper will carry out a comparative study on the issue of the application of the Athens Convention 1974 to cruise passengers and the issue of its direct effect and supremacy in China and UK. It concludes that the Athens Convention 1974 is applicable to cruise passengers, it shall have direct effect and supremacy in Chinese court, and China should accede to the 2002 Protocol to the Athens Convention 1974 for better protection of the cruise passengers.

Review of Research on Cruise Tourism of China in Recent Five Years

At present, domestic research on cruise tourism focus mainly on the following aspects: training cruise tourism talents; cruise industry development and its impact on regional economic; development and marketing of cruise tourism market; environment and strategies of regional development of cruise tourism; construction of cruise port (terminal) and competitiveness evaluation of it; cruise business model and performance.
