WITH this symposium we throw light on a side of our market research and commercial development activities that has been largely neglected in the past, namely, the setting of targets for diversification research, that is, the of industrial research that produces a diversification of sales and manufacturing activities. Diversification research is concerned with the creation, development, and commercial establishment of entirely new products. This type of research is more than just insurance for the future. It is the lifeblood of the chemical industry. Without it, a chemical company cannot survive in this day of rapid technological change.
