A Teaching Design with Ideological-Political Element on Reactions of Alkanes in College Chemistry II

College chemistry II is a basic course for normal college students majoring in science education in our university, and it is of practical significance to integrate ideological and political education into the teaching of the course to achieve the teaching purpose effectively. Taking the part “reactions of alkanes” as a case of teaching design, this paper discussed the teaching design ideas and methods of integrating ideological-political elements into the specialized course specifically in the setting of the three learning objectives, the introduction of the new lesson, the teaching of the three knowledge points, etc., and carried on the teaching reflection. By fully excavating the ideological-political elements in this course, and integrating the ideological and political education with cases related to reactions of alkanes in daily life and production practice into, it can arouse the students' attention and thinking, stimulate the students' interest in learning, and enhance the effectiveness of students' learning.

The development of an environmental educational game based on the ASSURE instructional design model: a case study in Turkey

ABSTRACT This study aims to develop an educational game on the environment based on the ASSURE instructional design model. Educational games are an excellent method for learning, letting students have fun and ensuring that students are physically, emotionally, and psychologically at the highest level. The phenomenology design, a qualitative research method, was used in the study. The participants of this study were 16 6th-grade students in Turkey. The selected games were prepared taking into account the Turkish game tradition. Purposive sampling was chosen to determine the participants. The observation form and interview form were used as data collection tools. The data were analysed by content analysis. The study findings were given in codes and categories, including direct quotations. As a result of the study, it was discovered that the students found educational games entertaining, that educational games could be adapted to Science courses the best, and that playing educational games was useful regarding ease of learning and learning by having fun. In line with these results, suggestions were made, such as giving more space to educational games in the lessons.

Development and evaluation of an online professional development course to support delivery of tiered school-based rehabilitation services

Purpose The Facilitating Integration of Rehabilitation Services Through Training (FIRST) Course provides online professional development on tiered service delivery models for rehabilitation professionals working in education settings. Created by content and e-learning experts, this study describes our use of the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation (ADDIE) instructional design model and the Successive Approximation Model (SAM) to develop, implement, and evaluate the FIRST Course, and reports the findings of an initial program evaluation. Method Rehabilitation professionals who completed the FIRST Course were invited to complete a cross-sectional survey to evaluate its utility. Results Between May 1, 2020, and August 11, 2023, 314 occupational therapists, 54 physiotherapists, and 170 speech-language pathologists completed the online course and survey. Respondents perceived the FIRST Course content to be relevant to their practice and to meet their learning needs regarding tiered services in education settings. Most respondents viewed the course positively and would recommend it to colleagues. More experienced respondents suggested a need for training on tiered service delivery models beyond an introductory level. Conclusions The ADDIE and SAM instructional design models were successfully applied to develop, implement, and evaluate online professional development for school-based rehabilitation professionals who wish to learn about tiered service delivery models.

The role of learning activities and social presence in synchronous hybrid classrooms: results from a natural experiment

ABSTRACT The synchronous hybrid classroom (SHC) combines on-site and remote learners simultaneously. This study aims to investigate how participation mode (on-site vs. remote) affects students’ perceived learning in a SHC, examining social presence as a mediator. A second aim explores how different learning activity types along the ICAP framework influence students’ perceived learning across both groups, again considering social presence as a potential mediator. A natural experiment was conducted with 241 vocational secondary school students regularly participating in a SHC, either on-site (n = 136) or remotely (n = 105). Results showed that participation mode influenced students’ perceived learning indirectly through social presence. Remote participants perceived their social presence as lower and learning less effective than on-site participants. Interactive learning activities were most frequently used in this SHC implementation. The mediating effect of social presence was particularly strong for active/interactive activities on-site and passive/interactive ones remotely. This study contributes to theory by unravelling the complex interplay of the pedagogical design of a SHC and students’ learning experiences, highlighting the critical role of fostering social presence to optimise learning outcomes in SHC. Furthermore, it underscores the practical necessity for robust technological infrastructure and professional development support for teachers to enhance the efficacy of SHC settings.

Development of Interactive Learning Media Based on Learning Management System in Class X English Learning at SMAN 1 Gunungputri

This research aims to develop, test the feasibility, and measure the effectiveness of developing interactive learning media based on the Learning Management System in class X English subjects at SMAN 1 Gunungputri. This research uses the ADDIE development model. To test feasibility, researchers used validation from media experts, learning design experts and material experts and considered the results of user responses, namely teachers and students. The feasibility test results obtained from media experts were 74%, instructional design experts were 85%, material expert tests were 98%, teacher users were 92%, small group tests were 95% and large group tests were 97%. These results indicate that the use of interactive learning media is suitable to support the process of English learning activities in class X at SMAN 1 Gunungputri. Data analysis of pre-test and post-test scores showed that the average pre-test score of students was 55 and the average post-test score was 89. The results of effectiveness testing using the N-Gain test showed a result of 0.8, which is at “Effective” category. So, it is concluded that the use of interactive media based on the Learning Management System is effective in improving the learning outcomes of class X students at SMAN 1 Gunungputri.

Using reflection and dialog feedback to promote the development of situated and dynamic pedagogical content knowledge

This study explores the reflection and dialog feedback of preservice teachers (PTs) in a one-semester chemistry teaching design and practice course with the aim of improving their situated and dynamic pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). Using a collective case study method, reflections and dialogs from 18 PTs across six teaching cycles were analyzed. The research results indicate that teaching reflection focuses on five themes: the diversity of student situations, the functionality of teaching contexts, the consistency of teaching content, the construction of teacher‒student dialog, and the progression of subject practice activities. The reflection of the PTs strengthened meaningful teaching content and corresponding specific skills, and effective dialog feedback provided external evaluation standards. The reflection prompted teachers to evaluate from multiple perspectives and levels and provided important insights to promote the development of situated and dynamic PCK. This study concludes with a discussion of the practical implications and potential for future research to develop a situated and dynamic PCK for PTs.

Blended Teaching Design of Hotel Customer Management based on Xuexi Tong

This paper explores the innovative application of a blended teaching mode for the core hotel management course, "Hotel Customer Management" (HCM), utilizing the Xuexi Tong learning platform. This study analyzes the platform's advantages for student learning and propose a comprehensive teaching design that has been implemented and evaluated using qualitative research methods. The results demonstrate that the Xuexi Tong-based blended teaching mode effectively stimulates student learning interest, fosters initiative, promotes deep learning, and cultivates practical abilities. This paper details the teaching design content, implementation process, and evaluation methods, offering valuable insights for promoting and applying blended teaching approaches in hotel management education.

Exploration of STEM Education Curriculum Construction in Normal Universities

To fully meet the societal demands for future teachers, this paper comprehensively designs the STEM education curriculum for science education students from multiple dimensions including teaching content, teaching models, and instructional design. Through the designed instructional process, student teachers are effectively trained to develop their capabilities in delivering STEM education. The integrative curriculum design enables student teachers not only to impart knowledge but also to stimulate students' innovative thinking and problem-solving skills, laying the foundation for nurturing future innovative talents.

The Design of Teaching and Learning Platform to Support Exchange Learning for Elementary and Middle Schools in Korea

The education sector needs to improve education quality after the post-pandemic and subsequent decline in educational attainment. Additionally, there has been a heightened reliance on private education, coupled with the projected inflection point of 2070, when the global population will decline. Various solutions have been developed and implemented to support changing educational environments and teaching methods. However, despite these efforts, the problem of a widening educational gap between urban and rural students persists. This is due to difficulties accessing educational resources caused by long distances between schools, and there is an increasing demand for practical measures to make education more inclusive. In this case study, we analyzed the building and operation of a teaching-learning platform. We interviewed stakeholders to prepare a preemptive response to social issues that education will face in the future. Through this, we derived considerations for an exchange learning-based teaching-learning platform (that supports teachers' exchange learning lesson designs) and proposed a design plan platform. The results of this study are expected to minimize the learning gap between urban and rural areas, support the development of educational programs that consider students' interests, and adjust the educational difficulty to a suitable level for each student. It is also believed to help develop and utilize an AI-based, learner-customized learning platform.

Appealing, but misleading: a warning against a naive AI realism

AbstractScientists, educators, and instructional designers are facing numerous challenges due to the introduction of generative AI tools that can create appealing realistic imagery based on text prompts. Given that realism contributes to the trustworthiness of images coupled with people’s eagerness to externalize complex tasks to AI systems, the problem of a naive AI realism arises in which image creation and optimization is offloaded without considering the limitations of AI-driven technology. However, scientific visualizations and images used for educational purposes must go beyond an appealing presentation; above all, they should be accurate and factually correct. We argue that the utilization of generative AI tools for these types of visualizations requires human oversight, subject matter knowledge, and knowledge of effective design. In particular, we warn of a naive adoption of technological possibilities to “optimize” visualizations for educational purposes, such as memorability. A reductionist and naive view of AI-based optimization that fails to take into account the complex prerequisites for learning and instruction is likely to have negative consequences.

Organic Circularly Polarized Room‐Temperature Phosphorescence: Strategies, Applications and Challenges

Organic circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) plays crucial roles in chemistry and biology for the potential in chiral recognition, asymmetric catalysis, 3D displays, and biological probes. The long‐lived luminescence, large Stokes shift, and unique chiroptical properties make organic circularly polarized room‐temperature phosphorescence (CPP) a new research hotspot in recent years. Nevertheless, achieving high‐performance organic CPP is still challenging due to the sensitivity and complexity of integrating triplet excitons and polarization within organic materials. This review summarizes the latest advances in organic CPP, ranging from design strategies and photophysical properties to underlying luminescence mechanisms and potential applications. Specifically, the design strategies for generating CPP are systemically categorized and discussed according to the interactions between chiral units and chromophores. The applications of organic CPP in organic light‐emitting diodes, sensing, chiral recognition, afterglow displays, and information encryption are also illustrated. In addition, we present the current challenges and perspectives on developing organic CPP. We expect this review to provide some instructive design principles to fabricate high‐performance organic CPP materials, offering an in‐depth understanding of the luminescence mechanism and paving the way toward diverse practical applications.

Translation Technology for Foreign Language Teachers and Improvement of Translation Teaching Competencies

The rapid development of translation technology has profoundly impacted traditional foreign language teaching methods, providing extensive support for both teachers and students. This paper explores the influence of translation technology on foreign language teaching, analyzing the current status, attitudes, usage habits, and needs of teachers in relation to technology application. The swift advancement of technology has enriched foreign language teaching support and transformed traditional teaching models. The paper focuses on analyzing the types and applications of translation technology, its functions and roles in teaching, including classroom instruction, instructional design, and assignment assessment. Additionally, it examines the core elements of translation teaching competence, pathways for development, and strategies for enhancement, with a particular emphasis on technology-driven innovation models and the application of intelligent tools. Finally, the paper proposes future research directions, such as in-depth exploration of technology integration and data-driven teaching decisions, aiming to provide references for the development of translation teaching.

Assessing the Credibility and Motivation in E-Learning during the Covid-19 Education Shift

The purpose of this study is to assess the complex relationship between e-learning credibility and student motivation during COVID-19. Online education is growing, so educators, institutions, and governments must understand student motivation and e-learning attitudes. The study examines student COVID-19 management to discover crucial components. We explain the difficulty of e-learning credibility and its large impact on student motivation to help educators and scholars. Four research hypotheses guided the investigation; a descriptive survey design and an online questionnaire were utilized to collect data from 480 Saudi higher education students. Because of these factors, this study examines e-learning methods, tools, and approaches in today's complicated landscape. How e-learning systems motivate and engage students depends on interaction, adaptability, and reliability. This case study combines rapid educational technology advancement with pandemic-level disruption. It examines how e-learning will change post-pandemic education. The study's findings are noteworthy given the COVID-19 pandemic's widespread use of e-learning. Politicians and schools utilize them to engage pupils and enhance e-learning amid emergencies. This study may provide teachers, administrators, and instructional designers with confidence in e-learning. It may improve online learning. E-learning credibility and motivation should be studied across institutions and student populations.

An Action Research on English Reading Compensatory Teaching Based on the Diagnostic Assessment of "Youzhenxue" (University Edition)

Numerous studies have shown that diagnostic assessment plays a certain backwash role in English teaching, and the results of diagnostic assessment are used as the basis for subsequent compensatory teaching design. "Youzhenxue" (University Edition) is a language assessment platform that provides targeted diagnostic assessment results for English reading assessment. This paper explores the effectiveness of English reading compensatory teaching based on the diagnostic assessment results of "Youzhenxue" using a mixed research method. It is found that compensatory teaching focusing solely on the weaknesses of reading micro-skills identified in the assessment has limited effect on improving reading proficiency.

General Background: The evolving landscape of postmodern art necessitates innovative educational approaches to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to navigate this complex field. Specific Background: This research investigates the impact of an educational program grounded in Reigeluth's expansive theory on the teaching of postmodern art at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad. Prior studies have highlighted the need for effective instructional designs that engage students and enhance their cognitive achievements. Knowledge Gap: Despite the proliferation of educational theories, there remains limited empirical evidence on the effectiveness of expansive instructional design in the context of postmodern arts education. Aims: This study aims to assess the effectiveness of an expansive educational program on students' cognitive achievement in postmodern art compared to traditional teaching methods. Results: Utilizing an experimental design with two equivalent groups, the findings reveal statistically significant differences (p < 0.05) in post-test scores favoring the experimental group that engaged with the educational program based on Reigeluth's theory. Novelty: This research contributes to the literature by demonstrating that an expansive instructional approach can significantly enhance students' understanding and appreciation of postmodern art. Implications: The results underscore the necessity for art education curricula to incorporate innovative instructional designs that foster deeper cognitive engagement and mastery of complex artistic concepts. By bridging the gap between theory and practice, this study offers valuable insights for educators seeking to improve instructional effectiveness in the rapidly evolving domain of postmodern art. Shortcomings and challenges in the intersection of L2 pedagogy and applied cognitive linguistics

Abstract This paper aims to explore the shortcomings and challenges of Applied Cognitive Linguistics (ACL) in L2 classrooms and research. It examines the main issues and presents a case study with three quasi-experimental classroom studies. These experiments taught the Spanish past simple tenses using approaches informed by Cognitive Linguistics and Communicative Language Teaching, plus a control group, through a pretest/posttest design. Results favored cognitive-pedagogical instruction, but only in one production task (Alonso-Aparicio & Llopis-García, 2019). Subsequent studies replicated and extended the first, with further changes in instruction and assessment design, but found no significant differences between experimental groups in the posttest. The discussion highlights the steps taken to ensure study success, pointing out shortcomings in traditional assessment tests that favor notional-functional instruction. We suggest alternative testing tasks that consider cognitive-based approaches and new avenues for future research, aligning with Martín-Gascón et al. (2023).
