Exploration of Energy-Saving Technologies in Building Electrical System Design

Green energy conservation is the mainstream trend in the current development of the construction industry. The application of energy-saving technology in building electrical system design can effectively reduce energy consumption, avoid unnecessary energy consumption, and truly achieve energy conservation and environmental protection. Based on this, the article elaborates on the principles of energy-saving design in building electrical systems, and actively explores the application of energy-saving technologies from different perspectives such as optimizing power supply and distribution system design, adopting high-efficiency energy-saving lighting equipment, applying renewable energy, promoting smart home technology, and improving the efficiency of building electrical equipment.

Testability design of power distribution system considering noise immunity characteristics

MOSFET-based power electronics systems have high-reliability requirements, and a high-accuracy fault diagnosis method is necessary. However, imperfect conditions such as severe signal noise and poor consistency exist in actual products. Conventional fault diagnosis methods are difficult to identify faults accurately. This paper describes a simulation-based testability design method for batch products considering noise immunity. First, the components' soft and hard fault models are determined with failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), and the circuit simulation model is constructed. Then, the fault injection simulation is performed to structure the dependency matrix. The test points scheme is selected and optimized by extracting noise immunity characteristics of different types of signals. Finally, a power distribution system is taken as a case study for the testability design method, and the effectiveness of the test points is evaluated through simulation and experiment verification.

Methodology for integrating flexibility into realistic large-scale distribution network planning using Tabu search

A successful energy transition will be firmly based on the effective integration of distributed energy resources and on the integration of new flexibility providers into the energy system. To make this possible, a deep transformation in the design, operation and planning of power distribution systems is required. Currently, a lack of comprehensive planning tools capable of supporting operators in their investment plan options exists. As a result, reinforcements of conventional grid assets are common solutions put in place. This paper proposes a methodology to obtain cost-optimal distribution network expansion plans, by modelling a single-stage distribution network planning tool, using conventional assets as well as flexibility contracting from demand response. A Tabu Search metaheuristic has been implemented in order to solve the optimization problem. A case study based on a realistic large-scale city network model is presented, for a planning horizon of ten years with significant load growth due to electromobility penetration. Results show that, in the case study analysed, the use of load flexibility in combination with conventional reinforcements can reduce the total expansion network cost by about 7.5 %. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis on the cost of flexibility contracting is undertaken. Remarkably, the methodology presented generalises to further alternative solutions by providing a straightforward financial benchmark between the latter and conventional grid expansion.

Safety Design in Electrical Design of High-rise Building in Low Voltage Distribution System

With the continuous improvement of intelligent and automatic level of electrical system in high-rise buildings, the structure of electrical equipment in high-rise buildings is becoming more and more complex, and the total load is also increasing. Higher requirements are put forward for the safety design of its power distribution system. The safety design of low-voltage power distribution system is more and more important for the reliability and safety of the electrical system in high-rise buildings. Based on this, this paper first introduces the high-rise building power transformation and distribution system, including the reliability analysis of high-rise building power distribution system, power supply solutions, etc. Secondly, it analyses the design of low-voltage distribution system in the electrical design of high-rise buildings, and finally studies the safety optimization of low-voltage distribution system in the electrical design of high-rise buildings.

Factors Affecting the Design and Economic Operation of Distribution Networks and Its Investigation in the 0.4 KV Distribution Network of Ghazni City

The design of power distribution systems should be such that it can technically respond to the increase in electricity demand properly and economically, optimally designed and high network reliability. In order to respond to the increase in electricity demand, load forecasting must be done so that in addition to providing the electricity needed by customers, expansion of power generation centers, expansion of substations, expansion of transformer stations and selection of their appropriate location can be done optimally. In this article, we first examine the definitions and factors that are technically and economically effective in the economic design of energy distribution systems. And in the next stage, we will see whether these above-mentioned effective factors are considered in the 0.4 kV distribution network of Ghazni city or not.

High Specific Energy Design of Power Supply and Distribution System for Chang'e-5 Orbiter

Limited by the loading capability of launch vehicle, the deep space probe is required to reduce its own weight. Based on the most advanced space power supply technology in China, the power supply and distribution system of Chang’e-5 orbiter adopts ultra-high energy density solar cells and batteries, and invents a new bus topology. Through a series of lightweight power distribution system design, the power to weight ratio of the whole probe reaches the domestic leading level. The power supply and distribution system of spacecraft has passed the ground verification and flight test on in orbit, therefore can be referred for the follow-up research and design of high specific energy of power supply and distribution system of spacecraft.

Application of PV-assisted Intelligent Electric Vehicle Charging and Switching Power Station

Taking a new office area as an example, this paper introduces the design of power supply and distribution system for traditional electric vehicle charging pile. In view of the adverse impact of large-scale EVs load on the power grid, a photovoltaic charging and switching power station microgrid system is proposed, and intelligent dispatching is carried out through the energy management system. The scheme combines the development of clean energy with the supporting facilities of electric vehicle, which can effectively solve the problems caused by the connection between new energy and power grid, and improve the quality of power grid. The Energy Management Strategy reduces the impact of traditional charging stations on the urban distribution network and the consumption of urban electricity during peak period, and has higher economic benefits.

Multi‐resonator arrays for smart wireless power distribution: comparison with experimental assessment

This study presents the design of efficient wireless power distribution systems based on resonant inductive arrays. The authors show how to use multi-resonator arrays to charge and power up several electric devices in parallel, with nearly constant transmitted power, and using a single power source. Their single-source wireless power transmission clusters, for instance, are shown to provide free positioning at better power efficiency than previous solutions. They provide analysis, simulation, and measurement performance of their multi-resonator arrays, they compare them with other types of inductive arrays employed into different schemes (multi-coil inductive links, overlapping and non-overlapping links), and they show the advantage of their strategy over previous solutions. The presented wireless power distribution systems improve power transmission efficiency (PTE) in free positioning by as much as 30%. The measured results show that their multi-resonator arrays present significant advantages: (i) they allow multiple charging zones from a single power source; (ii) they provide free positioning with strictly uniform power delivered to the load; and (iii) they provide superior efficiency through a built-in power localization mechanism, which is not available in other solutions. The PTE of the multi-resonator array in single-receiver and multi-receiver configurations outperformed previous solutions by 26% and 12%, respectively.

Application of Improved Teaching and Learning Based Algorithm for Simultaneous Optimal DG and Capacitor Placement

Proper electrical power distribution system design plays a vital role in delivering the good quality of electrical power to each and every consumer in the system especially end user/consumer. Good quality of electrical power is always be measured with good voltage profiles. In general, due the electrical constants of distribution system feeders, there is a considerable voltage drop due to which voltage at various buses in the distribution system will suffers from poor voltage magnitudes. This can be overcome up to some extent by various methods such as providing the compensating devices like Distributed Generators (DGs) that provides both active and reactive power injections and shunt capacitor banks, that will give reactive support to the system. In this work, an attempt has been made to obtain the optimal locations and optimal sizes of these DGs and shunt capacitors by an algorithm based on improved version of Teaching and Learning based optimization. Basically sensitivity analysis is adopted to find the optimal locations and their optimal sizes are obtained by Improved Teaching and Learning based Optimization algorithm. The proposed work has been tested with a radial distribution test systems i.e., IEEE-41bus system and results are presented.

Methodology of Power Distribution System Design for Hybrid Short Sea Shipping

Application of energy storage (ES) in power distribution systems (PDS) of short sea shipping marine vessels is gaining ground. The main drivers are the increasing demand for higher energy efficiency and the decreasing costs of battery ES systems (BESS). The feasible chemistry and dimensioning of the BESS depend heavily on the vessel type, the PDS topology, and the load profile. Thus, no general rules for battery dimensioning that would fit all vessels can be presented, but the analysis must be performed by using an advanced modeling approach, which takes into account the abovementioned factors. This paper presents a modeling methodology for dimensioning marine vessel ES and hybrid PDS components. The methodology has been tested for two distinct vessels, a cruiseferry and an off-shore support vessel.

Design and research on a power distribution system for airborne radar

With the rapid progress of electronic and computer technology, as well as the application requirements under complicated conditions, modern airborne radars are developing to multifunction, highly integrated, digital and modular. As a ‘heart’ component of the radar, the performance and reliability of the distribution system is one of the decisive factors for its development. In this work, the design and research of an airborne radar power distribution system was introduced. The distribution system adopts the layered and fused power supply architecture of ‘centralized rectification, decentralized voltage stabilization’. Further, according to the actual application requirements, the input under-voltage and over-voltage protection, health management and other functional modules were added. The detailed composition, design and the corresponding implementation scheme of the distribution system were carefully investigated. The test results show that the system is controllable, stable and reliable, and the performance index meets the requirements of the radar system for the power supply characteristics. The distribution system is feasible, and has important reference significance for the design of power supply and distribution system of other radars.

Influence of the Main Design Factors on the Optimal Fuel Cell-Based Powertrain Sizing

The design of the optimal power distribution system (PDS or powertrain) for fuel cell-based vehicles is a complex task due to PDS comprising one or more power converters, several types of secondary energy sources, a fuel cell, several control loops, and protections, among others. The optimized powertrain design tries to minimize the mass, volume, and cost, and also to improve system efficiency, fuel economy (both hydrogen and electricity), and vehicle autonomy. This paper analyzes the influence of four different factors that deeply affect the optimal powertrain design, in particular: the minimum power delivered by the fuel cell, the storage of the recovered energy from the regenerative braking periods, the battery technology, and the maximum battery state-of-charge variation. The analysis of these factors is carried out over a set of 9 different fuel cell-based architectures applied to a light vehicle, and a 10th architecture corresponding to a pure electric vehicle. This analysis provides the knowledge of how these design factors affect the mass, volume, and cost of the optimal power distribution architectures, and how they can be considered in the design.

Intelligent power service and improvement analysis of communication network based on SDN

As the carrying network of electric energy, the power grid is the foundation of the national industry. For the implementation of the “Internet plus” strategy, there is an urgent need for a new network communication technology to improve the traditional power communication network, and to make up for the original defects. This paper mainly analyzes the new demands of new intelligent power business of communication network. Then, the limitations of existing power communication network and power distribution equipment are explored. At last, It put forward the basic scheme of using SDN technology to improve the existing power communication network, which provides a train of thought for the design of intelligent power distribution system based on SDN Technology.

MOSOA-Based Multiobjective Design of Power Distribution Systems

This paper presents a multiobjective (MO) evolutionary algorithm for solving a contingency-based MO design of power distribution system (PDS) by extending the original and powerful metaheuristic approach based on a MO seeker optimization algorithm (MOSOA). Normally, reliability is a major concern in existing PDS planning, as estimation of failure rates and fault repair duration of the feeder branches is difficult in practice. The proposed planning methodology uses a contingency-load-loss index for reliability evaluation, which is independent of the failure rate and fault repair duration of the feeder branches. This planning strategy includes distribution automation devices such as automatic reclosers (RAs) to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the distribution system. The proposed algorithm generates a set of nondominated solutions by the simultaneous optimization of two conflicting objectives (economic cost and overall system reliability) using Pareto-optimality-based tradeoff analysis. The performance of the proposed approach is assessed and illustrated on a 54-bus distribution system, considering real-time design practices and meeting the additional requirements that the designer imposes. The information gained from the Pareto-optimal solution is shown to be useful for final decision making of a PDS. Furthermore, a qualitative comparison is made with the nondominated sorting genetic algorithm-II, showing the efficacy of the proposed planning approach.

Design Paradigm for Power Electronics-Based DC Distribution Systems

The design of a dc distribution system is posed as an optimization problem, which simultaneously utilizes time-domain analysis, distortion analysis, and stability analysis. The complete power distribution system is taken into consideration in the design process, capturing the interaction between various system components. Multiobjective optimization of mass and power loss metrics subject to transient performance constraints, distortion constraints (voltage and current ripple constraints), and stability constraints is carried out in the proposed design paradigm. This provides an organized framework for the design of dc power distribution systems. The approach is demonstrated through the design of a representative system that consists of a generation system, two isolating peak current controlled dc-dc converter modules, and two constant power loads. A sample design is chosen and verified using a detailed waveform level simulation.
