Utazás előtti tanácsadás – fogorvosi szempontból

Az utazás alatti egészségkárosodások 3,5–7,8%-a fogászati jellegű, tehát egyrészt jelentős nagyságrendű problémakörről van szó, másrészt a külföldi fogorvosi kezelés drága és nem minden utazási biztosítás fedezi azt teljes egészében. Ezért az utazás előtti tanácsadásnak tartalmaznia kell a fogászati jellegű bajok ismertetését, megoldási módjait. Fontos szempont a szájhigiénia hangsúlyozása (biztonságos fog- és protézismosó vízzel), a protézisek és a fogszabályozó készülékekkel kapcsolatos tennivalók ismertetése. A nem megbízható külföldi szolgáltató kezelése súlyos fertőzést, esetenként HIV fertőzést is eredményezhet.Fontos tudnivaló hogy az egyes fogorvosi kezelések után mikor repülhet az utazó: Általánosságban elmondhatjuk, hogy a barodontalgia veszélye miatt fogtömések után 24 órát, gyökérkezelés után 72 órát, szövődménymentes implantáció után 24–48 órát, nagyobb orofaciális beavatkozások után (többszörös implantáció, csontpótlás stb.) után két hetetajánlatos várni a légi utazással. Természeten a várakozási idő függ a beteg mindenkori állapotától és az elvégzett beavatkozás nagyságától is.

ASSESSMENT OF THE KNOWLEDGE AND AWARENESS AMONG EGYPTIAN PARENTS IN RELATION TO ORAL HEALTH STATUS OF THEIR CHILDREN

Background: Good oral health is essential for the overall health and well-being of a child and is one of the important factors for a disease-free life. .Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate oral health awareness among Egyptian parents and its relationship with the dental health status of their children. Subjects and methods: one hundred and ten children aged 6–12 years selected from outpatients visiting the public dental clinic of October 6 university hospital ,were included in the study. A comprehensive questionnaire with apparent validity was designed enclosing questions regarding views of parents on oral health knowledge for their children, caries prevention and role of diet, which was distributed to the parents .Results: There was no statistically significant difference between DMFT and deft scores in children with the unsatisfactory and satisfactory awareness levels of their parents. DMFT showed positive significant correlation with age and total parental questionnaire score. On the other hand, there was a statistically significant inverse correlation between age and deft , also deft showed negative insignificant correlation with total parental questionnaire score. Finally, there was a statistically significant inverse correlation between DMFT and deft. Conclusion: Parents' knowledge and awareness of oral health were poor among Egyptian parents. Special attention should be directed to parents with low socioeconomic status who need to be more educated about oral health of their children

THE EFFECT OF DENTAL HEALTH EDUCATION USING MUSIC IN DECREASING PLAQUE INDEX OF INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED

Background: Intellectually disabled (ID) children refer to special needs children whose intelligences are below the average. Poor dental and oral health conditions are a problem that is often found in ID children. Dental health education (DHE) on toothbrushing activity for ID children can be a solution for their dental and oral health problems, however ID children have limitation in receiving information caused by the deficit of cognitive functions covering perception, memory, idea development, evaluation, and reasoning. Effective learning processes in DHE for ID children can be achieved by using adaptive media like music adjusted to the condition of ID children. Objective: To analyze the effect of DHE using music in decreasing plaque index of mild-to-moderate ID children. Methods: Pre-experimental (one-group pre and posttest) and total sampling method were used. Thirty subjects, junior high school students with mild-to-moderate intellectual disability (9 females and 21 males), were given 15 sessions of DHE using music as adaptive media. The music was in the form of children's song, which contains stages of tooth-brushing using modified-bass technique, created specifically by adjusting to characteristics of ID children. Plaque index was measured using Quigley–Hein Turesky–Gilmore–Glickman modification on day-0, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15. Results: Average plaque index of all subjects (mean±SD): pretest (4.79±0.27), posttest-1 (4.37±0.36), posttest-2 (4.02±0.42), posttest-3 (3.39±0.46), posttest-4 (2.78±0.65), posttest-5 (2.29±0.86), Wilcoxon statistical analysis showed that there are significant differences (p<0,05). Conclusion: DHE using music as adaptive media in the form of children's songs can affect the reduction in plaque index of mild-to-moderate ID children since the 3rd day. The decrease in male subjects' plaque index was slower than in female subjects. Grade level does not affect the decrease in plaque index of ID children. Lingual surface’s plaque index had higher score with slower decline than buccal surface.

Dependence of the periodontal state of individuals who were born macrosomic on their height-weight index at birth

The problem of long-term consequences of fetal macrosomia (birth weight greater than or equal to 4 kg), among which there are dental disorders, is urgent.Objective. To identify the features of the periodontal state of individuals in the City of Kharkiv and adjasent area (Ukraine) population, born with macrosomia according to their weight-height index at birth. The identification takes into account intrauterine obesity, or intrauterine well-balanced development, or pre-natally formed relative body weight insufficiency.A separate objective of this study is to determine qualitative and radio-morphometric indices as markers of the bone mineral density of the jaws in the individuals in the City of Kharkiv and adjasent area population, born macrosomic.Material and methods. During 2014–2019, two hundren and nineteen persons with different dental health conditions have been examined using clinical and radiological methods. One hundred and forty individuals between the ages of 11 and 55, who were born with macrosomia, constituted the Main Group, and seventy nine individuals of the same age, whose birth-weight parameters were normal (fetal normosomia), were assigned to the Comparison Group.Considering the weight-height parameters at birth, the participants included into the study were divided into subgroups. Considering the age of the participants included into the study, they were also divided into Age Periods.To indirectly determine the optical density of bone tissue the following two X-ray morphometric indices have been used: the mental index (MI) (A. Taguchi, 1995) and the Panoramic Mandibular Index (PMI) (B. W. Benson, 1991).In a straightforward manner, the density of the cortical and trabecular jawbone tissue was measured using an Easy Dent 3D Viewer CT scanner. The tomographic studies have been conducted with the cone-beam computer tomographs.Results. In macrosomic-at-birth persons with prenatal obesity, in the oral cavity in ontogeny, dystrophic-inflamatory changes arise, with prevalence of a dystrophic component, which are accompanied by destruction of periodontal tissue of different degree of severity, which is manifested by the atrophy of the alveolar processes and the recession of the gums, and which is accompanied by the appearance of wedge-shaped defects. The results of direct and indirect calculations of the optical density of the bone tissue in such persons indicate a significantly reduced density of the cortical layer of the bone tissue of the jaws, as compared to normosomic at birth persons.In macrosomic-at-birth persons with a well-balanced intrauterine development, as well as with a relative intrauterine insufficiency of body weight, in the later life, dystrophic-inflammatory changes arise in periodontal tissues with prevalence of an inflammatory component of different degree of severity. In such persons, a significantly reduced density of the trabecular tissue of the jaws has been revealed, as compared to the other participants in the study, in both the Main and Comparison Groups.Conclusions. In the course of the intrauterine period, a specific type of metabolism forms, which has a decisive influence on the formation of dental disorders in individuals born with macrosomia.

Effects of Renal Transplantation and Hemodialysis on Patient’s General Health Perception and Oral Health–Related Quality of Life: A Single-Center Cross-Sectional Study

BackgroundPatients with end-stage renal disease have a lower quality of life compared to the general population. Oral health–related quality of life (OHRQoL) is of particular interest as good oral health could influence general health. This study aimed to compare dental and periodontal health status, OHRQoL, and general health perception of renal transplant (TX) and hemodialysis patients (HD) with that of healthy controls. MethodsThe study included 64 TX, 63 HD, and 61 healthy patients. TX patients were also grouped according to the time elapsed after transplantation and currently use of immunosuppressive agents. The numbers of decayed, missing, and filled teeth were recorded as DMFT, and periodontal health status was evaluated. Patients’ general health perceptions and OHRQoL were assessed using Short Form-36, Oral Health Impact Profile-14, and OHRQoL-United Kingdom questionnaires. ResultsThe HD groups presented significantly higher DMFT scores and periodontal scores than TX and control groups. OHRQoL-United Kingdom total scores of TX and HD groups were lower than controls (P < .05). Oral Health Impact Profile-14 total scores revealed that HD groups' OHRQoL was significantly lower than TX and control groups (P < .05). Perceptions of general health of TX patients were higher than in the HD group. ConclusionsRenal transplantation has shown to increase quality of life and OHRQoL compared to hemodialysis therapy. Neither the immunosuppressive agent nor the time elapsed after transplantation were observed to be significant factors affecting OHRQoL.

Dental Caries Status in Autistic Children: A Meta-analysis.

The objective of this meta-analysis was to assess the dental health status of children with ASD in terms of decayed, missing, and filled permanent teeth (DMFT) and decayed, missing, and filleddeciduous teeth (dmft). PubMed, Embase, psycINFO, and Cochranelibrary were searched for studies published until September 2018. A random-effects model was applied to estimate the pooled results.Nine studies comprising 532 children with ASD and 622 controls were included. No significant differences between children with ASD and controls were observed for DMFT and dmftin the world. Subgroup analyses revealed that children with ASD had a significantly higher dmft index than that of controls in Asia.Children with ASD have a worse dental health status than healthy children in Asia, but caution is necessary given the limited studies available for analysis.

Mothers' oral health literacy and children's oral health status in Pikine, Senegal: A pilot study.

Context and objectiveAs elsewhere, disadvantaged children in Senegal are those most affected by dental diseases and difficulties in obtaining dental care. Studies conducted mainly in developed countries suggest that a low level of mothers’ OHL is correlated with poor oral health of their children. The objective of this study is to estimate the level of mothers’ OHL in Senegal and its relationto the dental health of their children.MethodsThis cross-sectional epidemiological survey took place among 315 children aged from 3 to 9 years old and their mothers. It estimated the children’s dental health status by clinical examination which used a disposable examination kit and a headlamp, took place at the child’s home, in the mother’s presence. Examiners interviewing the mothers administered the Oral Health Literacy-Adult Questionnaire to determine their OHL and questioned them further about their social characteristics and their children’s dental health behaviour. Logistic regression and correlations were used for the statistical analysis.ResultsThe OHL score ranges from 0 to 17; mothers’ mean score was 6.5 (±3.1) and 56.5% had a low score (below the median). The prevalence of dental caries in children was 64.8%. Mothers’ high OHL is associated with children caries free and low prevalence of dental caries. The logistic regression showed a significantly protective relation between children’s dental caries and mothers’ high OHL scores (mean score 12–17) (OR = 0.51, 95% CI: 0.29–0.88), high educational level (OR = 0.42, 95% CI: 0.23–0.76) and a high level of social contact (OR = 0.31, 95% CI: 0.15–0.63). The structural analysis showed that OHL was significantly correlated with both the mothers’ social position (r = 0.61 and P<0.001) and the children’s caries (r = -0.26 and P<0.001).ConclusionThe OHL level of Senegalese mothers was significantly associated with their children’s dental caries. Improving mothers’ OHL might therefore help strengthen their capacities to promote oral health, thus helping to improve their children’s dental health and reduce inequalities.

objective of this study is to determine the effect of oral health status on the quality of life of older people living with families in Tamalanrea District, Makassar. This study was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. study was conducted on 268 elderly samples, dental and oral health status was measured using the OHI-S index and DMF-T. level of quality of life was measured by GOHAI. study showed that caries affected the quality of life of the elderly (p = 0.000), oral hygiene affected the quality of life of the elderly (p = 0.001), tooth loss affected the quality of life of the elderly (p = 0.000), and using dentures affected the quality living elderly (p = 0.000). Based on the study conducted, there is an effect of dental and oral health status on the quality of life of elderly living with families in Tamalanrea District, Makassar. Factors associated with the dental health status of health promotion students in the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia: A cross-sectional study

Aim: The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with the dental health status of public health promotion graduate students. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 67 graduate public health promotion students. A self-administered questionnaire on dental health knowledge, attitudes, and practices was administered, in addition to a dental caries examination. The data were collected during 5 days (from June 5 to 9, 2017). Statistical Test Used: Statistical analysis was performed using both chi square and multiple logistic regression tests with 95% confidence interval (CI). Results: The Decayed, Missing, and Filled Tooth (DMF-T) index of the students was higher (4.7) than that of the national DMF-T index in 2013. Most of the students (86.6%) had a low level of knowledge of dental health. About half had negative attitudes toward dental health care, as well as a high number of caries. About three of every four students had inadequate dental health care practices. Although the students knew about a free dental clinic at the university, only one-eighth of the study group used this clinic. The respondents who had an inhibiting social environment were 41.8%, whereas 23.9% of them had a supporting social environment. There was a significant correlation between an inhibiting social environment and dental health status (P = 0.036; odds ratio [OR] = 0.347; 95% CI = 0.1–0.9). A multivariate test showed that the students with a supporting social environment had an OR of 2.949. Thus, students without a supporting social environment had a 2.95 higher probability of having a high number of dental caries. Conclusions: Factors associated with the dental health status of public health promotion graduate were identified.

Mothers' knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding their primary school children's oral hygiene

Background Evaluation of parental knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding dental hygiene is an important tool which projects parent's outlook toward oral health of their children. Proper dental hygiene prevents dental caries and allows early detection for any abnormality in earlier stages. Objective The aim was to assess knowledge, attitude, and practice of mothers regarding oral health and its effect on their children's dental health status. Patients and methods This is a cross-sectional study of a random sample of 392 primary school children and their mothers. The children were selected randomly from two primary schools randomly selected from Shebeen El-Kom district's primary schools and proportionally allocated according to the total number of children in each school. A predesigned questionnaire was used to assess mother's knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding their child's oral hygiene. Results Good knowledge of proper oral hygiene was represented by 88.5% of the studied group. Approximately 70% of the studied group had positive attitude toward proper oral hygiene, and 52.3% had satisfactory level of oral hygiene practice. The study shows a statistical significant difference of mothers' good knowledge level and their education, occupation, and socioeconomic status. Proper knowledge and practice regarding oral hygiene statistically significantly increase the absence of decayed or filled teeth. Conclusion Good knowledge, positive attitude, and satisfactory practice of mothers regarding child's oral hygiene affect dental health status of the studied children.

Locally advanced primary intraosseous mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the mandible: radiological aspects

Primary intraosseous mucoepidermoid carcinoma (PIOC) or Central Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma (CMC) of the jaw bones is an extremely rare malignant salivary gland tumor, comprising 2-3% of all mucoepidermoid carcinomas reported. We report a rare case of a 55 year-old female patient with advanced low-grade primary intraosseous mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the mandible. The patient was referred with a chief complaint of slowly progressive painless swelling in right cheek region for 2 years. On physical examination, a stony hard swelling was found, measuring 47x46x33 mm, fixed to the right posterior mandible and extending to the parotid region. Oral cavity examination showed an induration of the oral mucosa with poor state of dental health. No palpable lymph node was noticed in the neck on extraoral examination. Computed tomography (CT) with three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction (A,B,C,D) showed an agressive lytic process of the right mandibular ramus, with heterogeneous tissue density, blowing the cortical, having clear polycylic contours and extending into the surrounding soft parts without invading them. The patient underwent tumoral biopsy. Histopathological and immunohistochemical examination confirmed the diagnosis of a low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC). Surgery is the treatment of choice, as mucoepidermoid carcinoma is considered globally resistant to radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Due to the advanced stage of the disease, the tumor was unresectable. The next best treatment option planned was exclusive conformal radiation therapy.

Evaluating factors associated with fear and anxiety to dental treatment-A systematic review.

Introduction:Dental anxiety refers to a set of complex psychological issues bearing a significant impact in individual's lives reflecting in the form of dental visit avoidance, poor dental health status and decreases oral health related quality of life. Hence, it is imperative to consider those factors associated with dental anxiety so as to treat and promote better oral health. The review aimed to assess various factors associated with dental fear and anxiety.Materials and Methods:Literature search was done from Pubmed and Google scholar search engines to identify publications which explored factors associated with dental fear and anxiety.Results:Research evidence pointed a significant relationship of age, gender, maternal anxiety, previous dental experience, and number of siblings with dental fear and anxiety (DFA).Conclusion:Findings of the review clearly suggest that a better understanding of factors causing dental anxiety and phobia will help preventing dental avoidance and providing better care.

Evaluation of dental health among adolescents with mental disorders

Background/Aim. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is an increasing prevalence of mental disorders among children and adolescents worldwide. Previous studies have shown that people with mental disorders, regardless age, have an increased prevalence of dental caries due to several reasons. The aim of this study was to determine prevalence of dental caries in adolescents with mental disorders and to consider possible risk factors that might contribute to their current dental health status. Methods. The study was conducted as an observational cross-sectional study. The study group comprised 70 randomly selected hospitalized adolescents with mental disorders. The control group comprised 70 randomly chosen mentally healthy adolescents. They were matched to the study group by gender and age. All the participants were subjected to targeted dental examination according to criteria recommended by the WHO. Collection of data related to mental disorders of the study group was obtained from the patient?s medical records. All collected data were organized and analyzed by descriptive statistical parameters and regression models. Results. Majority of the study group patients were diagnosed with schizophrenia, schizotypal and delusional disorders (F20-F29), as well as behavioral and emotional disorders usually occurring in childhood and adolescence (F90-F98). Almost 90% of them were treated with antipsychotics of the second generation, as monotherapy or in combination with first-generation antipsychotics. Adolescents with mental disorders had significantly more carious and extracted teeth and three times less filled teeth than mentally healthy adolescents in the control group. The mean value of the decay-missing-filled teeth (DMF) index in the study group patients was also significantly higher than the mean value of DMF index in the control group subjects. Conclusion. It seems that mental disorder among adolescents mainly affects oral health indirectly, decreasing motivation of patients in maintaining oral hygiene.

Revitalizing School Dental Health Effort through ?Model 222? as a Strategy to Achieve Caries-Free Indonesia 2030

The tooth brushing program together is a self-preservation effort for elementary school children. The tooth brushing program that has been implemented in schools has not been able to change the tooth brushing behaviour of elementary school students, indicated by the value of OHI-S = 1.3; DMF-T = 1.09, def-t = 1.78, indicating the condition is below the national target 2010. Improvements in the behavioural aspects need to be done to improve the dental health status of elementary school students. One of the changes in behaviour influenced by information. Information will be stored as much as 20% if delivered through visuals, 50% if delivered through audio-visual media and 70% if implemented in real practice. to generate alternative changes in tooth brushing behaviour through brushing teeth audio-visual in elementary school students and analyse their effectiveness. Research and Development (R&D) with stages: information gathering, design, expert validation and revision as well as testing (using the Quasi-Experimental Control Group Pre-test and Post-test Design method). The test sample was divided into two, the 222 (intervention), and brushing teeth 21 days (control) group. The results of expert validity showed that the 222 was feasible as an effort to form the teeth brushing behaviour of elementary school children (p = 0.020). Model 222 was more effective in increasing teacher knowledge, attitudes and skills than brushing teeth 21 days (control) p = (0,002). The 222 was more effective in increasing the knowledge, attitudes and skills of dokter kecil (elementary school student child doctor) than brushing teeth 21 days (control) p-value 0.05 but the mean value in the intervention group was bigger. The 222 was more effective in increasing knowledge, attitudes, skills, and reducing debris scores in elementary school students compared to the 21 days program (control) p = 0.000. from the results of the research, it can be concluded that the model 222” effectively shaped the teeth brushing behaviour of teachers, elementary school student child doctor and the skills of brushing teeth and dental hygiene of students at school.

Oral healthcare-seeking behavior and perception of oral health and general healthcare among WHO indexed age groups in East-Coast India.

Introduction:In a country where 30,570 dentists graduate per year, it is staggering to acknowledge that only 10% of dentists serve the rural people, who constitute around 68.8% of the country's population.Aim:To find out the oral healthcare-seeking behavior, profile, and pattern in Tenali Mandal among WHO recommended index age groups.Materials and Methods:A cross-sectional, multilocality, single-visit study was done to acknowledge the oral healthcare-seeking behavior, profile, and pattern in Tenali Mandal, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. There are 9 villages, 2 peri-urban, and 1 town present in the Tenali Mandal and the study was conducted following the National Pathfinder Survey.Results:Around 35.4% of the study participants utilized dental services while most of them sought care in the last 1–6 months (23.4%) and the main reason for the last dental visit was tooth pain (13.1%), followed by decayed tooth without pain (6.9%). Dental care-seeking behavior among the age group of 12 years was 1.611 times more when compared to 65–74 years age group which was statistically significant (P ≤ 0.010). For dental care-seeking behavior among gender, the males utilized 0.982 times less when compared to females which was not statistically significant (P ≤ 0.881), while for the place of residence, urban place was 2.707 times more utilizing the services when compared to rural place which was statistically significant (P ≤ 0.001).Conclusion:The results of the study indicates that the barriers of oral healthcare-seeking behavior among dental health conditions poses public health problems in the study area, as well as it is an important baseline indicator against which target for oral health improvement can be set and monitored.

Correlation Between Oral and Dental Health Status of Primary School Children and Their Family Quality of Life in Torbat Heydariyeh County in Iran

Background: Due to little information on Iranian families, this study was conducted to investigate the correlation between the oral-dental health status of primary school children and their Family’s Quality of Life (QoL). Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the oral-dental health status of 251 primary school children in Torbat Heydariyeh county, Iran, was examined according to decayed, missing, and filled teeth index for primary (dmft) and permanent (DMFT) teeth by a checklist. Their mothers (n=251) responded to the Family Impact Scale (FIS) for the assessment of family’s QoL. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20 by Poisson and Multiple Linear Regression analyses. Results: Primary dental caries of children at an intermediate level (dmft = 3.4 ± 3.1) and their permanent dental caries at a low level (DMFT = 2.6 ± 2.9) were evaluated. The mean score of families’ QoL was estimated 13±7.5 out of a maximum of 56. Pearson correlation test showed that there was no significant correlation between the FIS and dmft/DMFT index (P &gt; 0.05). Regression models revealed that there was a correlation between mothers' dental visits over the past 8 months with the dmft (p=0.006), the DMFT index (p=0.016) and families’ QoL (p=0.045). Conclusion: Although our study didn't show a correlation between the dental health status of children and family’s QoL, the findings showed that there is still a gap between the goals of the WHO and the dental health status of children in Torbat Heydariyeh county.

Maternal Dental Health Knowledge and Its Relation to the Dental Caries Experience of Their Children in Mamyzawa Camp of Refugees in Erbil, Iraq.

This study aimed to evaluate the mothers' dental health knowledge and its relation to their children's oral health behavior and practice in a camp of refugees. This descriptive cross-sectional observational study was conducted in Mamyzawa refugee camp in Erbil City, Iraq, in November 2017. Seventy-nine preschoolers (43 aged 4 years and 36 aged 5 years) and their mothers (79) were chosen for this study. The study was accomplished in two days. The first day the mothers' oral health knowledge, children's behavior towards oral hygiene, eating behaviors of their children and their use of dental services were assessed by a questionnaire. The day after, examinations of the dental health status of the children were performed. SPSS statistics software was used to analyze the collected data. Mothers' knowledge of oral health was low, and 63% of the children had dental caries. Five-year old children had more dental caries (77.8%) than the four-year old (51.20 %). Frequency of sweet consumption, brushing assistance, and irregular use of dental services were the main factors that had relation to the high dental caries in those children. The mothers living in Mamyzawa refugee camp do not have enough knowledge of oral health, which was led to high caries prevalence among their children, indicating that an intensive education program is required for the mothers and oral health care for their children.

HEREDITARY ANGIOEDEMA: DENTAL MANAGEMENT OF 9 PATIENTS FROM BRAZIL

Objective To describe the dental management and oral health status of 9 patients with hereditary angioedema (HAE). Study Design Demographic data, type and severity of HAE, long and short-term prophylaxis, and number of occurrences of angioedema after dental procedures were retrieved from the files of patients submitted to dental procedures in a university hospital from Brazil from 2012 to 2017. Number of teeth and presence of bone loss were evaluated by panoramic radiographs. Results Nine patients were enrolled into the study, all in use of long-term prophylaxis, most with attenuated androgens (AAs); most patients (78%) were women, with C1-inibitor (INH)-HAE type I and mean age of 47 years. The mean number of present teeth was 23, and 5 patients (58%) showed signs of periodontal disease. Forty-three dental procedures were performed, the most common being tooth extractions, dental restorations, and supragingival removal of calculus. Six patients (67%) were submitted to dental procedures without modification of long-term prophylaxis, whereas an increased dose of AAs or C1-INH concentrate was administrated before the dental procedures in 3 patients (33%), especially in those undergoing dental extractions. Angioedema attacks were not observed. Conclusions This is the first large series on dental management of Brazilian patients with HAE.

Correlation between Mother's Behavior with Periodontal Status and Periodontal Treatment Needs in Children with Autism

Background. Autism is a neurological and developmental disorder. Children with autism have problems related to physical, psychological, and mental barriers that can hinder their ability to achieve optimal dental health status. Maintaining the dental health of children with autism is influenced by parents' teaching skills and habits. From previous study, there were about 17.4% children with autism in Saudi Arabia suffering from bleeding of the gingiva. Periodontal disease is often found in children with autism.&#x0D; Objective. This study analyzes the relationship between mother’s behavior with periodontal status and periodontal treatment needs of children with autism.&#x0D; Methods. Analytical observational study with cross-sectional approach at AGCA Centre Surabaya with a total sample of 34 pairs of children with autism and their mothers. This study used the HU-DBI questionnaire which consisted of knowledge, attitude, and mother’s action and oral examination of children with autism with the CPITN index.&#x0D; Results. Of the children with autism, 55.8% had healthy periodontal status. The knowledge, attitudes, and actions of mothers were high. Statistical results with Spearmen correlation test obtained a value of p&gt;0.05 on aspects of knowledge, attitudes, and actions towards the CPITN index and periodontal treatment needs.&#x0D; Conclusion. There was no significant correlation between the mother’s behavior and the periodontal status and periodontal treatment needs of children with autism in managing their oral health.
