As part of the monitoring of environmental objects, studies of the environmental consequences were carried out immediately after the catastrophic shipwreck of the cargo ship Seamark in Tsemes Bay. In addition to human casualties and material losses, each wreck causes damage to the ecology of the seas. Human pollution of the marine environment leads to its degradation and the accumulation of toxic substances in water and living organisms. Sampling of sea water within two months from the moment of the disaster made it possible to assess the dynamics of the content of impurities in sea water. The general parameters of sea water were determined using standard methods (total mineralization, pH, anionic surfactants), as well as the content of petroleum products. It has been established that even at a considerable distance from the site of the disaster, the content of petroleum products in sea water exceeds the norm by almost two orders of magnitude. The real and future consequences of seawater pollution with petroleum products for the ecology of the sea are described.
