Authors Productivity and Degree of Collaboration in Journal of Knowledge and Communication Management during 2011–2017

This is on author's productivity and degree of collaboration (DC) in the JournalofKnowledgeandCommunicationManagement during 2011–2017. For the study, data were downloaded and collected from the website of Indian Journals (www.indianjournals.com). In this study analysis the year-, volume-and issue- wise distribution of articles, page length of the research contributions, year-wise distribution of references, country-wise distribution of articles, institution- wise research contributions, authorship patterns of the contributions, single author and multi authors of research contributions, DC and most productive authors have been analyzed. The study has found that the contributions of articles to JournalofKnowledgeandCommunicationManagement are not only from India but also from foreign countries. For the analysis of the study, 07 volumes containing 13 issues have been taken up. It is found that 92 research papers were published during the study period. The maximum number of research articles, i.e., 16 (17.39%) articles, was published in 2015 and 2017. The average DC is 0.641.

Co-authorship patterns and networks in the scientific publications of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences

The increasing amount of scientific collaboration has led to an increase in the quality of scientific publications. The goal of this article is to analyze the co-authorship patterns and networks in SBUMS’s scientific publications in WOS from 2009 to 2013. Hence, the co-authorship indicators and ratio of national to international collaborations are determined. This research is a descriptive survey including scientometric approaches. HistCite and NWB software is used to draw and analyze the networks. The findings show that the scientific publications of SBUMS are 6633 publications. The most productive authors are Fereidoun Azizi and Mohamad Reza Zali. The maximum number of scientific publications is allocated to the articles written by more than 5 authors. Collaborative Index (CI), Degree of Collaboration (DC), and Collaborative Coefficient (CC) are 4.27, 0.96, and 0.71 respectively. The ratio of national to international collaborations is 4.78. In co-authorship networks, there are 12825 nodes (authors) that are linked with 97618 edges. The highest degree and betweenness centrality belongs to Masjedi showing the communication paths of other nodes overtaking them. The most international collaboration belongs to the USA. The collaboration of authors in SBUMS is almost good but the international collaboration is not so. Encouraging policies for the further collaboration of authors surely leads to increasing the quality and quantity of the scientific publications. It is recommended to repeat the network analysis in different periods of time.

Growth versus scientific collaboration in the field of genetics: A scientometrics analysis

This paper studies the relative growth rate of research publications versus the collaboration and authorship pattern of Genetics subject of the world and India. Study shows the higher the growth of literature and higher the scientific collaboration. The data has been collected from the articles listed in Web of Science 1993-2012. Discussess the types of collaboration and describe the measures of collaboration. Study Shows the variation with Collaboration Coefficient (CC), Collaboration Index (CI) and Degree of Collaboration (DC). Finally conclude that there is a relation between growth and scientific collaboration in the field of Genetics.

In the present paper an attempt has been made to study relative research publications of the collaboration and authorship pattern of Economics subject. Discusses the types of collaboration and describe the measures of collaboration. The study gives the actual impact of collaboration intensity on the performance of Scientific Productivity. Collaborative Index (CI) is 2.06. Degree of Collaboration (DC) is 0.58 and Collaboration Co-efficient (CC) is 0.30.

Authorship Pattern and Collaborative Research in Economics

The study gives the actual impact of collaboration intensity on the performance of scientific productivity with the help of three measuring methods namely, Collaborative Index (CI) which is 2.06, Degree of Collaboration (DC) is 0.58 and Collaboration Co-efficient (CC) is 0.30. Finally, the paper concludes that the results are of significance for the policy makers in economics research.

Bibliometric observation of publication output of university teachers: A study with special reference to physics

Context: Bibliometrics are now considered as an established practice to assess the academic output of research. Publication productivity is expressed by the number of papers published by a selected unit in a given time. In Kerala, although higher education and research have much wider importance and the publication productivity is also increasing, no systematic attempt has been made to analyze the pattern of this literature productivity. In this context, it is relevant to examine the productivity patterns of the faculty members of the universities. Materials and Methods: This study is based on the data collected from the publications of teachers pertaining to physics department of the three universities of Kerala that is, University of Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi University and University of Calicut collected from annual reports and the university websites. Analysis is based onbibliometric techniques: To find out authorship pattern, degree of collaboration (DC), fitness of Lotka's law, year-wise and designation-wise distributions. Results: It is found that the DC among the teachers is high among the physics faculties of Universities. Lotka's law seems to be satisfactory in UoC only. Nonopen access journals are preferred by the physics teachers, but seem a slight shift in the use of open access journals is also there. Designation-wise distribution shows that professors are the major contributors to the physics literature. Conclusion: It can be concluded that universities can attain visibility, prestige, and credibility in the broader academic community by producing high-quality research and this in turn enhance the reputation of the universities and provide a greater opportunity for attracting better students and faculty.

Applying the ecological Shannon′s diversity index to measure research collaboration based on coauthorship: A pilot study

The purpose of this study was to test the usefulness of a slightly modified Shannon's diversity index (H) as a numerical measure of intragroup research collaboration diversity based on coauthorship. Altogether, 527 peer-reviewed scientific papers by two university departments were used as the study material. Nonrandom rationalized sampling was executed to enable the confirmation of the authors' affiliations. The smallest unit of collaboration, i.e., a pair of authors, was created by matching every author with each of the coauthors from the same department he or she collaborated with. H was calculated at the department level and compared with the previously published, coauthorship based measures of research collaboration: The collaborative index (CI), degree of collaboration (DC) and collaboration diversity index (CDI). Obviously, H expressed a different aspect of research collaboration than the existing indexes. Compared to CI, DC, and CDI, H revealed novel aspects of collaboration when the abundance of collaboration increased and the distribution of collaborative relations between coauthors moved closer to the uniform distribution at the same time. H can provide additional information about collaborative relationships between researchers based on coauthorship, and it should be considered as a partial indicator of research collaboration.

Research publications to Indian Journal of Cancer: a scientometric analysis

Purpose – The aim of the present study is to analyze the literature growth, author productivity, authorship pattern, average length of articles and country collaboration of cancer research in India. The Indian Journal of Cancer, which shows the progress of ontological sciences in India, was established in 1963. Indian Journal of Cancer is the first and only periodical serving the needs of all the specialties of oncology in India. The journal is the official publication of the Indian Cancer Society and Indian Society of Oncology. Design/methodology/approach – Thirty-nine issues of the Indian Journal of Cancer, published between 2003 and 2012, have been considered for the study. The collected data were recorded in an Excel spreadsheet and analyzed to find the degree of collaboration (DC) between authors, collaboration between countries and authorship pattern. Since the journal publishes research articles, review articles, editorials, letters to the editor, symposiums, forewords, case reports and special articles, only the 244 research articles published during 2003-2012 have been taken into consideration in this study. Findings – The study revealed that multi-authored papers were more common and that the average length of articles was 5-6 pages. Twenty-two countries contributed papers to this journal during the study period. Additional research is needed to assess the impact of diverse dietary habits, religious practices and lifestyles on the prevention of cancer. Originality/value – More than 50 per cent of the world’s cancer burden, in terms of both numbers of cases and deaths, occurs in developing countries and is rising. By 2020, it is estimated that 70 per cent of all cancer cases will be in these lower-income countries, and approximately one-fifth of these will be in India, with its (still increasing) population of over a billion. While research is necessary to inform effective programs, it is also time to move beyond research to act by implementing programs in cancer prevention and treatment. Cancer is disturbing the growing economy of the country, which can be saved by proper handling of this disease.

Scientific Productivity of Polymer Science Research: A Scientometric Study

The present study discusses the scientific productivity of polymer science research as reflected in J-Gate for the period from 2000-2009. This study investigates the authorship pattern, geographical distribution of contributors, highly productive authors, highly preferred journals by the scientists, sectoral distribution, Degree of Collaboration (DC) and Collaborative Co-efficient (CC) and growth pattern of polymer science research by calculating relative growth rate and doubling time for publication.

A study on scientific collaboration and co-authorship patterns in library and information science studies in Iran between 2005 and 2009.

Background:Scientific collaboration is among the most important subjects in scientometrics, and many studies have investigated this concept to this day. The goal of the current study is investigation of scientific collaboration and co-authorship patterns of researchers in the field of library and information science in Iran between years 2005 and 2009.Materials and Methods:The current study uses scientometrics method. The statistical population consists of 942 documents published in Iranian library and information science journals between years 2005 and 2009. Collaboration coefficient, collaboration index (CI), and degree of collaboration (DC) were used for data analysis.Findings:The findings showed that among 942 investigated documents, 506 documents (53.70%) was created by one individual researcher and 436 documents (46.30%) were the result of collaboration between two or more researchers. Also, the highest rank of different authorship patterns belonged to National Journal of Librarianship and Information Organization (code H).Conclusion:The average collaboration coefficient for the library and information science researchers in the investigated time frame was 0.23. The closer this coefficient is to 1, the higher is the level of collaboration between authors, and a coefficient near zero shows a tendency to prefer individual articles. The highest collaboration index with an average of 1.92 authors per paper was seen in year 1388. The five year collaboration index in library and information science in Iran was 1.58, and the average degree of collaboration between researchers in the investigated papers was 0.46, which shows that library and information science researchers have a tendency for co-authorship. However, the co-authorship had increased in recent years reaching its highest number in year 1388. The researchers’ collaboration coefficient also shows relative increase between years 1384 and 1388. National Journal of Librarianship and Information Organization has the highest rank among all the investigated journals based on collaboration coefficient, collaboration index (CI), and degree of collaboration (DC).

This paper critically analyses 239 scholarly communications published in the inaugural five volumes of Journal of Informetrics (JOI) to examine growth of literature, types of communications, authorship pattern, collaboration trend, predominant research domains, etc. Subsequent analysis focuses on prolific contributors, degree of collaboration, and time-lag trend. Findings reveal that - publication output doubles over the study period as article publications increase considerably; though single-authored contributions were significant (30 %), majority of contributions were collaborated by two-authors (36 %), while average authorship accounts for 2.28 per communications. Degree of collaboration (DC) was impressive (0.699) but not overwhelming as research collaborations has emanated from 199 higher learning institutions of 32 countries across the globe. Ranking of prolific contributors has shown Prof. Egghe on the top followed by L Bornmann; R Rousseau and L Leydesdoff. Result also shows upward trend of keyword usage with an average of 4.55 per items, of which h-index, citation analysis, bibliometrics, g-index, etc, expectedly predominates. Scholarly nature of source journal has been further ascertained from increasing citations and reference usage trend. Moreover, growing hardness of the field has been attributed to JOI due to the increasing usage of tables and figures. Patterns of Iranian co-authorship networks in social sciences: A comparative study

Collaboration in science is a process in which two or more authors share their ideas, resources and data to create a joint work. This research compares coauthorship networks of Iranian articles in library and information science (LIS), psychology (PSY), management (MNG), and economics (ECO) in the ISI Web of Knowledge database during 2000–2009, and uses network analysis for the visualization of coauthorship networks. Data include all articles with at least one Iranian author and indexed in ISI's Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) for the fields of LIS, PSY, MNG, and ECO. Indicators such as the Collaborative Index (CI), Degree of Collaboration (DC) and Collaboration Coefficient (CC) were calculated for each discipline. Results show that two or three authors were the most common number of authors per paper, and authors of PSY tended to have more multi-authored articles, compared to the other disciplines. LIS had the lowest rank regarding CC. MNG had the densest coauthorship network, and PSY had the sparsest. Iranian authors in the field of PSY mostly collaborated with those in the U.S., while LIS and MNG authors tended to collaborate with U.K. authors, and ECO authors tended to collaborate with Canadians.

Authorship and subject pattern of scientific technical reports from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, India

A total of 931 internal and external technical reports were published from BARC during 1990?2006. Internal technical reports are circulated only within the units of the Department of Atomic Energy, India, whereas external technical reports are distributed within the organisation as well as to other organisations in India and abroad. Only external reports are signalled by the INIS database. An author collaboration study has indicated that greatest proportion of reports (209, 22.4%) had three authors. Author collaboration parameters Collaboration Coefficient (CC), Collaboration Index (CI) and Degree of Collaboration (DC) indicated a trend towards collaborative research rather than solo research. Collaboration between the divisions of BARC and between BARC and other institutions has been reduced considerably from 2000 onwards. Of the 810 Technical Reports that were in the purview of nuclear science and technology, 609 (75.2%) were of single discipline, 187 (23.1%) were of two disciplines and 14 (1.7%) were of three disciplines. The highest number of technical reports (231, 28.8%) belonged to the S21 (specific nuclear reactors and associated plants) subject category.
