Complete Genome Sequence of the Olive-Infecting Strain Xylella fastidiosa subsp. pauca De Donno.

ABSTRACTWe report here the complete and annotated genome sequence of the plant-pathogenic bacterium Xylella fastidiosa subsp. pauca strain De Donno. This strain was recovered from an olive tree severely affected by olive quick decline syndrome (OQDS), a devastating olive disease associated with X. fastidiosa infections in susceptible olive cultivars.

A New Perspective on the Fundamental Theorem of Asset Pricing for Large Financial Markets

In the context of large financial markets we formulate the notion of no asymptotic free lunch with vanishing risk (NAFLVR), under which we can prove a version of the fundamental theorem of asset pricing (FTAP) in markets with an (even uncountably) infinite number of assets, as it is, for instance, the case in bond markets. We work in the general setting of admissible portfolio wealth processes as laid down by Kabanov in [Statistics and Control of Stochastic Processes (Moscow, 1995/1996), World Sci. Publ., River Edge, NJ, 1997, pp. 191--203] under a substantially relaxed concatenation property and adapt the FTAP proof variant obtained in [C. Cuchiero and J. Teichmann, Finance Stoch., 19 (2015), pp. 743--761] for the classical small market situation to large financial markets. Vitis sp. response to Xylella fastidiosa strain CoDiRO

Following a request from the European Commission, the EFSA Panel on Plant Health assessed a scientific report submitted by the Italian Authorities to the European Commission to support a request to delist Vitis sp. from Annex I (‘specified plants’) of the Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2015/789 of 18 May 2015 to prevent the introduction into and the spread within the Union of Xylella fastidiosa (Wells et al.). The report comprised (i) surveys to detect X. fastidiosa in vineyards located in the epidemic zone of CoDiRO with high numbers of diseased olive trees; (ii) inoculation experiments to infect grapevine with a X. fastidiosa isolate ‘De Donno’ from CoDiRO diseased olives; and (iii) vector transmission experiments with X. fastidiosa infective Philaenus spumarius. The Panel acknowledges the difficulties in providing evidence about this hitherto unknown pathogen/vector/host interaction to support the hypothesis that a plant species cannot be infected with a pathogen. Although field surveys to detect X. fastidiosa in grapevine were negative, there was no supporting information on infective vector populations present in the vineyards. Hence absence of infection pressure cannot be excluded. Furthermore the failure to infect grapevine plants either by artificial inoculation or by vector transmission might be due to inoculation conditions not appropriate to induce infections in grapevine. The detection of X. fastidiosa DNA in inoculated grapevine plants even 12 months after inoculation, although localised at the inoculation points, cannot exclude that the DNA amplified by qPCR was from viable cells. The results presented are coherent and provide converging lines of evidence that grapevine (Vitis vinifera) is not a major susceptible host of X. fastidiosa strain CoDiRO. However, from the experimental evidence it is premature to exclude that systemic infections of V. vinifera and Vitis sp. occur and that infections at limited foci could serve as a source of inoculum.

Preferred quantization rules: Born–Jordan versus Weyl. The pseudo-differential point of view

There has recently been evidence for replacing the usual Weyl quantization procedure by the older and much less known Born–Jordan rule. In this paper we discuss this quantization procedure in detail and relate it to recent results of Boggiato, De Donno, and Oliaro on the Cohen class. We begin with a discussion of some properties of Shubin’s τ-pseudo-differential calculus, which allows us to show that the Born–Jordan quantization of a symbol a is the average for \({\tau\in[0,1]}\) of the τ-operators with symbol a. We study the properties of the Born–Jordan operators, including their symplectic covariance, and give their Weyl symbol.

Mean-Variance Hedging in Large Financial Markets

We consider a mean-variance hedging (MVH) problem for an arbitrage-free large financial market, that is, a financial market with countably many risky assets modelled by a sequence of continuous semimartingales. By using the stochastic integration theory for a sequence of semimartingales developed in De Donno and Pratelli [6], we extend the results about change of numéraire and MVH of Gourieroux et al. [12] to this setting. We also consider, for all n ≥ 1, the market formed by the first n risky assets and study the solutions to the corresponding n-dimensional MVH problem and their behaviour when n tends to infinity.

On a Class of Generalized Integrands

In the framework of the theory of stochastic integration with respect to a family of semimartingales depending on a continuous parameter, introduced by De Donno and Pratelli as a mathematical background to the theory of bond markets, we analyze a special class of integrands that preserve some nice properties of the finite-dimensional stochastic integral. In particular, we focus our attention on the class of processes considered by Mikulevicius and Rozovskii for the case of a locally square integrable cylindrical martingale and which includes an appropriate set of measure-valued processes.
