The integration of lecturer collaboration within higher education institutions’ quality culture framework

Purpose There is a lack of clarity about how lecturer collaboration in light of learning and (professional) development fits within the framework of a quality culture in higher education institutions (HEIs). More specifically, it is unclear how collaboration is present or stimulated in the organisational context, triggering working mechanisms leading to quality-related outcomes. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to relate HEIs' quality culture to lecturer collaboration. Design/methodology/approach This exploratory study relates institutions’ quality culture to lecturer collaboration via semi-structured interviews and document analysis at the institutional level in four Flemish HEIs. Findings The results demonstrate collaboration as a working mechanism driven by the institutional strategy. In this way, lecturers’ professional development (PD) is stimulated. The results also indicate that collaboration is present within lecturers’ PD: working together during or sharing experiences after PD initiatives is considered useful for quality teaching and learning. Originality/value Following the growing attention in research and practice to lecturer collaboration, this study incorporates lecturer collaboration in the framework of quality culture within HEIs.

The Moderating Effect of Big Data Analytics Capabilities on the Relationship Between Organizational Culture and Administrative Effectiveness at Higher Education Institution in Sichuan

In the rapidly evolving landscape of higher education, the role of organizational culture and administrative effectiveness has garnered significant attention. This study aims to investigate the moderating effect of big data analytics capabilities on the relationship between organizational culture and administrative effectiveness in higher education institutions in Sichuan, China. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis through surveys and qualitative insights through interviews. The sample will consist of faculty members, administrative staff, and management personnel from various higher education institutions across Sichuan province. The theoretical framework will draw upon literature on organizational culture, administrative effectiveness, and big data analytics capabilities. Organizational culture dimensions such as innovation, adaptability, collaboration, and leadership will be evaluated using established scales. Administrative effectiveness will be assessed based on factors such as efficiency, responsiveness, transparency, and stakeholder satisfaction. The research will explore how the organizational culture of higher education institutions in Sichuan influences administrative effectiveness. Additionally, it will investigate the role of big data analytics capabilities in moderating this relationship. Specifically, it will examine how institutions with varying levels of big data analytics capabilities leverage data-driven insights to enhance administrative practices and overall effectiveness. Findings from this study are expected to provide valuable insights for higher education institutions in Sichuan, enabling them to cultivate a conducive organizational culture and leverage big data analytics capabilities to improve administrative effectiveness. The results will also contribute to the broader literature on organizational culture, administrative effectiveness, and the role of technology in shaping organizational outcomes.

A Study of Exploring the Instruments to Analyze Organizational Culture in Indian Higher Education Institutions

A positive and inclusive work environment can encourage commitment, satisfaction, loyalty, enthusiasm, and productivity among employees. By examining any organization’s culture, the proper training can be provided to keep the workplace healthy and also help address various issues within the organization. Various dimensions have been identified and used by academics, practitioners, and researchers alike, but there needs to be more consensus about how culture should be analyzed. Many instruments based on these dimensions of organizational culture have been identified while reviewing the literature. To speed up the identification process, only those tools researchers have widely utilized to study organizational culture have been included in this study. Therefore, this study found the three instruments OCAI, competing value framework by Camerons and Quinns, Organisational Culture Survey (DOCS) by Denison, and OCTAPACE by Udai Pareek, which the researcher widely uses for analyzing organizational culture. The primary goal of this study is to identify the instruments used to study organizational Culture in Higher Education Institutions by looking at the existing literature.

Theoretical foundations of formation of organizational culture of higher education institutions

Modern reality in conditions of fierce competition, a high degree of uncertainty and economic instability puts forward new demands on the management of organizations and actually reorients it from extensive to intensive sources of development. It becomes obvious that in the current conditions those organizations will «survive» and will be able to function and develop in the future, which in their activities are focused not only on improving financial and economic indicators, but also on the formation of a completely new ideology of management, a new nature of connections and relations with external and internal environment, i.e. for the development of one’s culture. In view of this, in recent years, both in practice and in theory of management, it is possible to observe an increase in attention to the organizational culture of the enterprise. Organizational culture is an integral part of any organization, and in modern conditions it turns into an effective and efficient tool of strategic business development, shapes the image of the organization, allows solving numerous problems that arise in them, it is oriented towards achieving the business goals of the organization and ensuring the efficiency of its functioning. Certain conceptual ideas about organizational culture have existed for quite a long time. In recent years, in the research of domestic scientists on this issue, significant progress has been observed in understanding the essence of organizational culture, its role and significance for the internal integration and development of the organization. At the same time, dynamic changes and the development of the competitive environment require the analysis of organizational culture from the point of view of not only the internal processes of the organization, but also its role in creating and strengthening competitive advantages.

Management of quality assurance and development of the quality culture of higher education in Indonesia

This study aims to analyze quality assurance management in the development of quality culture in higher education institutions in Indonesia. This study method is a literature review. The results of the study show that in the quality assurance policies of higher education institutions in Indonesia, there are two quality assurance systems for higher education institutions, namely, the external and internal quality assurance systems. The effectiveness of external and internal quality assurance depends on internal quality assurance management aimed at building a higher education quality culture. Higher education institutions that are managed effectively and efficiently have a high-quality culture. The quality culture of higher education in Indonesia is unique and different from other organizational cultures. This uniqueness can be seen in the quality of academic services, the productivity of scientific work and community service.

Academic Culture of Higher Education Institutions in Ukraine

The purpose of the article is to analyse the significance of academic culture for higher education institutions in Ukraine and to substantiate the strategic trends of its development. The research methodology used in the course of scientific research is based on an interdisciplinary approach and includes general scientific methods of systematisation and analysis of the issue under study, which allowed specifying and substantiating strategic approaches to the development of academic culture in the university community. The objectives of the scientific research necessitated the use of an analytical approach, which helped to outline the advantages and disadvantages of the process of introducing academic culture in higher education institutions. The scientific novelty lies in the disclosure of the essence and significance of academic culture in higher education institutions of Ukraine; scientific substantiation of the strategic trends of academic culture policy in the context of motivation and incentives. Conclusions. The development of the academic culture space requires the improvement of a series of factors in the system of higher education institutions: from identifying and proving cases of dishonesty to the use of appropriate tools as methods of punishment. These issues are reflected in the majority of national papers and publications on academic integrity. In order to introduce a high level of academic culture in the university community, the following steps should be taken: to have a clear, effective, and transparent system to support a high level of academic culture in an educational institution; to focus on the capabilities of students rather than on prohibitions, metaphorical restrictions, and intimidation; to synthesise academic culture and learning space through the holistic structure of any educational component.

The role and influence of martial arts and taekwondo in the construction of sports culture in universities

This paper aims to explore the role and influence of martial arts and taekwondo in the construction of sports culture in universities. Through a comprehensive analysis of relevant literature and case studies, this research summarizes the positive roles of martial arts and taekwondo in the development of sports culture in higher education institutions, including promoting physical fitness, character development, and fostering teamwork. Additionally, this paper analyzes the challenges they may face and provides suggestions for improvement and development to better leverage their role in university sports culture.

21st Century Skills/4C Skills’ Integration in English Teaching Documents Used in EFL Classroom

This content analysis research highlights 21st-Century/4Cs skills that characterize the quality of teaching materials integrated to culture in higher education institutions. This research was grounded from teaching documents obtained from the English lecturers, Faculty of Education and Vocational Studies (FADIKSI), Universitas Lancang Kuning, Indonesia from February until July, 2022. The research context was based on teaching documents (teaching syllabus and semester tests) with 4C skills’ integration. There were 16 collected teaching documents consisting of 8 teaching syllabus and 8 semester tests. The checklist of 21st-Century Skills/4Cs rubric covers “Communication”, “Creativity”, “Critical Thinking”, and “Collaboration” was adapted from the CTE Career Ready Practices. This research reveals the integration of 4Cs skills analyzed from teachers’ teaching syllabus and semester tests documents reached the levels of “Meet Competency” and “Approaching competency” levels. This portrait represents teachers’ adequate understanding of 21st-Century skills/4Cs skills. The further research recommends teachers provide and develop classroom environments of 21st-Century skills integrated to culture in the area of teacher professional development.

Challenges of globalization and quality of education: legal aspect

The article explores the issues of higher education quality in the context of global changes, taking into account the legal framework, which emphasizes the relevance of research. The approach to study the impact of international trends on the quality of higher education institutions, the level of educational services and the demand for graduates in the labor market is of scientific interest.  The purpose of the study is to validate the interaction of global trends on the quality of academic services, to identify the problems of quality of higher education, the specific features of the transformation of education and to determine the main guidelines to improve their competitiveness. Ongoing monitoring and comparative analysis have indicated that in order to improve the quality of education in higher education institutions it is essential to continue further targeted work in accord with international quality standards, which will facilitate the entry into the world educational space. The study is descriptive and sequential, from simple to complex, which examines the essence of the quality education concept, presents development stages of this category, examines legislative support, formation of independent evaluation of HEIs and study programmes, which allows to determine the critical role and particular importance of promoting quality culture in higher education institutions. The study proposes to develop an annual Action Plan for the implementation of the University Development Strategy, taking into account risk management, which will allow universities to improve the quality of educational programmes and increase the competitiveness of graduates. The study advances knowledge in the area of international accreditation and provides insight to management, faculty, students and stakeholders on the challenges of implementing international standards and external quality assurance in education. PEDAGOGICAL CONDITIONS FOR THE FORMATION OF A MODERN PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER: DIFFERENTIATED APPROACH IN TRAINING

The modern Ukrainian school is facing challenges in organizing the process of differentiated learning in physical education lessons. The purpose of the article is to reveal pedagogical conditions and a differentiated approach to training a future physical culture teacher. Research methods applied: analysis, synthesis and generalization of scientific and methodical literature. Differentiation is important for physical education and sports. Differentiation of children by age, gender, morphological, physiological characteristics, psychological and physical levels of training helps to plan and organize the process of physical education in educational institutions. The conditions of organization of the educational process of future specialists in physical culture in higher education institutions are revealed. The training of future specialists in physical culture depends on the components of the educational and professional program that affect the quality of training. Due to the created pedagogical conditions it is possible to predict a positive and realistic result of the future teacher's work. The pedagogical conditions for the use of a differentiated approach in the training of specialists in physical culture and sports have been developed: namely, the theoretical and methodological foundations for the formation of the main and selective components of the educational and professional program, the methodological basis for teaching professional disciplines, the procedural and practical assimilation of students’ knowledge in the learning process. It should be noted that the formation of effective pedagogical conditions in the educational process in higher education institutions will help to implement a set of organizational and pedagogical measures that will improve the quality of physical education lessons in general secondary education institutions. A differentiated approach in the training of future specialists in physical culture reveals and forms the professional skills and readiness of the student to solve the tasks.

ФОРМУВАННЯ КУЛЬТУРИ ЗДОРОВ’Я СТУДЕНТІВ-МАГІСТРІВ ПІД ЧАС ВИВЧЕННЯ ХІМІЧНИХ ДИСЦИПЛІН

The issue of forming the health culture of master's degree students of the Faculty of Chemistry during the study of chemical disciplines is considered. The main reasons for studying the formation of students’ health culture as a pedagogical problem are outlined. Theoretical and methodological aspects of forming the foundations of students’ health culture in higher education institutions are analyzed. Criteria, basic principles and conditions of formation of bases of culture of health of students, ways of their realization in educational process are proved. The study defines the culture of students’ health as a component of general and professional culture, which includes values of health, knowledge of one's own body, skillful and rational use of its capabilities, environmental awareness, demonstrates student readiness for a healthy lifestyle, desire for self-knowledge. self-preservation, development and self-improvement, successful self-realization in personal life and professional activity, etc. The formation of a culture of students’ health as nurturing in student youth such personal and professional qualities that contribute to maintaining and strengthening health through the achievement of sustainable ideas about health as the highest value, increase motivation to lead a healthy lifestyle, increase responsibility for their health and the health of others, encourage the constant growth of professional competence by updating health-preserving knowledge. The results of experimental research are given. An anonymous survey was conducted among master’s degree students of the Faculty of Chemistry (39 people), its results were analyzed and summarized. The survey showed that 100 % of respondents understand the importance of maintaining their own health. In particular, 48.7 % of respondents follow the rules of nutrition, 46.2 % properly organize training and recreation, 43.6 % of students regularly play sports and follow a daily routine. At the same time, 20.5 % of students do nothing to maintain their health. Students' self-assessment of the level of formation of their health culture showed a significant increase in this indicator during studies at the Faculty of Chemistry (manifestation of sufficient and high levels in students of I and II–IV courses, master's degree was 48.7 %; 74.3 %; 82.1 %).

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF ACADEMIC STAFF BY MEANS OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES: THE UKRAINIAN EXPERINCE

The article explores the issue of professional development and academic staff readiness for implementing innovations. Japanese higher education is well-known for its academic excellence, internationalization, and progressivity. Among several its unbiased advantages there is innovative encouragement, entrepreneurial culture of higher education institutions, collegiate professional support. All these issues are the matter of interest for the Ukrainian education system. The article examines focal points: recent innovation trends in higher education globally, academic staff readiness for implementing innovations in two education systems. It was found that the readiness of scientific and pedagogical staff to introduce key innovations in higher education is built on the basis of specific components of professional competence. In particular, such components focus on the organized acquisition of additional knowledge and skills of professional implementation, aimed at the professional development of specialists in the information society.This concept is related to the desire and the ability of the teaching staff to acquire additional professional knowledge and skills to meet the demand of modern education. This is especially urgent under uncertain socio-economic circumstances, particularly, in Ukraine where teaching is not considered an attractive career to choose. The paper seeks to examine the level of university staff readiness for implementing innovations in Ukraine by means of information and communication technologies. The analysis of university staff readiness to implement innovations was carried out on the base of a remote survey. All the participants attended at least two training programs (advanced training courses, seminars, workshops) in years prior to the survey. The analysis showed the evident need of research and teaching staff to improve their own information and communication competence, and also the need to refer to the modern information and communication technologies. It was found that the use of the information and communication technologies in the educational process of higher education is a favorable factor in the development of readiness of research and teaching staff to implement educational innovations in their own professional activities. In future research, it is recommended improving Ukrainian experience for professional development of academic staff in the dimension of information and communication technologies adapted for different levels of educational management.

Sustainability governance toward an organizational sustainability culture at German higher education institutions

PurposeHigher education institutions, as influential social institutions, play an important role in promoting social responsibility and sustainable practices. However, approaches to implementing sustainable development (SD) in higher education institutions (HEIs) themselves remain fuzzy. One way to achieve holistic embedding can lie in organizational culture. This study aims to examine ways by which internal sustainability governance can promote sustainability culture by using empirical data from German HEIs.Design/methodology/approachThis study uses factor analysis to identify relevant governance indicators. With a regression analysis, this study assesses the indicators’ effects on organizational sustainability culture in HEIs. A moderator analysis tests potential determinants derived from literature and their influence on sustainability governance and sustainability culture.FindingsOperationalizing formalized sustainability governance for holistic implementation reveals a gap in sustainability management at HEIs. This study proposes a model for operationalizing sustainability governance and shows an effect on sustainability culture at the formal organizational level.Originality/valueBased on the operationalization of sustainability governance, this empirical study provides evidence for the development of a holistic approach along a sustainability culture in organizations. This paper proposes a model for operationalization, analyzes multiorganizational data and shows the effects of sustainability governance on formalized organizational sustainability culture. This paper provides a transorganizational perspective for implementing SD following a top-down approach.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Academia Across the Globe: Current Status and Ways Forward

Women remain under-represented in all disciplines and at all levels of academia, especially at the professorial level, in senior leadership roles, including deans, university vice-chancellors, and presidents (Shepherd, 2017), and in gate-keeping positions, such as editorial boards and research funding bodies (Metz et al., 2016, Fotaki, 2013). Human and contextual factors influencing cyber-security in organizations, and implications for higher education institutions: a systematic review

PurposeA research line has emerged that is concerned with investigating human factors in information systems and cyber-security in organizations using various behavioural and socio-cognitive theories. This study aims to explore human and contextual factors influencing cyber security behaviour in organizations while drawing implications for cyber-security in higher education institutions.Design/methodology/approachA systematic literature review has been implemented. The reviewed studies have revealed various human and contextual factors that influence cyber-security behaviour in organizations, notably higher education institutions.Research limitations/implicationsThis review study offers practical implications for constructing and keeping a robust cyber-security organizational culture in higher education institutions for the sustainable development goals of cyber-security training and education.Originality/valueThe value of the current review arises in that it presents a comprehensive account of human factors affecting cyber-security in organizations, a topic that is rarely investigated in previous related literature. Furthermore, the current review sheds light on cyber-security in higher education from the weakest link perspective. Simultaneously, the study contributes to relevant literature by gaining insight into human factors and socio-technological controls related to cyber-security in higher education institutions.

ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE OF HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS AS A FACTOR FOR IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

The article examines the impact of the organizational culture of higher education institutions on the quality of providing educational services. It has been proven that the organizational culture of a higher education institution should adapt to the modern conditions of the development of the educational environment, take into account social changes and trends, and also be aimed at achieving the goal, fulfilling tasks and developing the higher education institution in accordance with modern educational trends. It is substantiated that for the formation and development of the organizational culture of a higher education institution, there is not time, but the observance of certain principles, which include: purposefulness, unity, systematicity and democracy. A conceptual model of the formation and development of organizational culture of a higher education institution was developed, outlining the stages of formation and development of organizational culture, its functions and factors influencing its development. The article claims that organizational culture as a system of formed shared values, beliefs, and behavior of employees of higher education institutions, which ensures interaction with the external environment and makes it possible to achieve the set goals of the higher education institution’s development, affects the improvement of the quality of higher education. It has been proven that the implementation of a model for the formation and development of the organizational culture of a higher education institution in accordance with the principles of purposefulness, unity, systematicity, and democracy makes it possible to create an atmosphere for encouraging teachers, students of higher education, administration to participate in a meaningful dialogue and jointly achieve the set goal and solve the relevant tasks.

Evaluating the research productivity of a state university in Central Luzon, Philippines: Basis for policy recommendations

This descriptive study evaluated the research productivity of a state university in Central Luzon, Philippines, for the past five years (2016-2020) as basis for policy formulation. The study used document analysis to ascertain the research productivity in terms of: i) Number of papers published in refereed international journals such as Scopus and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) accredited journals; ii) Number of faculty researchers with publication to these journals; and iii) Total number of citations. The data were obtained primarily from online publications found in the Google Scholar and Scopus databases. Results revealed that the state university's research productivity is relatively high in terms of published papers in refereed international journals for the past five years. However, the published papers in Scopus-indexed journals and CHED accredited journals are relatively low. An average number of faculty researchers publish their works in reputable journals, but very few faculties publish in the journals recommended by the CHED. Likewise, the university had a remarkable research citation record for the past five years. The findings of this research have important implications for policy to improve research productivity and enhance the research culture in higher education institutions (HEIs). Such policies include the need to have strong support to faculty researchers, forge research collaborations, source external research funding, and establish a sound incentive mechanism.

EFFECT OF EXTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE ON QUALITY CULTURE IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN TANZANIA

This paper aimed at assessing the effect of external quality assurance (EQA) on quality culture (QC) in higher education institutions in Tanzania. The study used explanatory design with quantitative approach. The population included higher education institutions (HEIs) located in Dar es Salaam region and a sample of 350 respondents was selected. Data were collected using survey questionnaires. Findings revealed that external quality assurance processes such as program accreditation, university accreditation, degree recognition, resources availability, and academic standards have different effects on quality culture in higher education institutions in Tanzania. The study concluded that HEIs in Tanzania have benefited from external quality assurance practices since they have allowed them to build quality culture. The study recommended that HEIs should comply with EQA in order to continuously improve their QC.

EFFECT OF INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE ON QUALITY CULTURE IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN TANZANIA

This paper aimed at assessing the effect of internal quality assurance on quality culture in higher education institutions in Tanzania. The hypothesis that the study intended to analyze is that internal quality assurance has no effect on quality culture. The study was designed using explanatory hypothesis-testing survey with quantitative approach. The study used a population of higher education institution in Tanzania and a sample from seven higher education institutions. The sample included 350 respondents from seven different higher education institutions in Tanzania. Data were collected using survey questionnaires and secondary data. Findings revealed that internal quality assurance mechanisms such as self evaluation, benchmarking, academic audit, peer review and external examination have an effect on quality culture in higher education institutions in Tanzania. The study concluded that internal quality assurance has an effect on quality culture in HEIs. The study recommends that internal quality assurance mechanisms should be supported by different stakeholders in order to assure involvement of commitment of staff and students in implementation of quality policies and quality programs in HEIs in Tanzania.

The article is devoted to the deepening of the theoretical aspects and methodological approaches of researching the process of communication management in the system of corporate culture of higher education institutions. A conclusion was made about the ambiguity of the influence of communication management in the system of corporate culture on a coherent and smooth educational process in higher education institutions. It was established that in modern conditions, communication management is part of the general process of functioning of the institution itself as a separate organization. It is substantiated that in the market of educational services there is a tendency to update the social and labor relations of all sides of the educational process, in particular, innovative forms of communications and the development of corporate culture. It is proposed that the spread of innovative forms and unification into a single chain of communications management contributes to the expansion of opportunities for improving the educational process of a higher education institution. Attention is drawn to the fact that in the conditions of the remote mode of work, the expediency and solution of important tasks for higher education institutions to achieve high-quality results of the management of the communication process due to the effective use of information resources will provide greater opportunities for the effective management of communications, thanks to the adoption of decisions regarding optimal conditions, which will be the key to coordinated work and communication interaction of the parties of the educational process in the system of corporate culture.
