Multi‐Dimensional Knowledge System and Ontology Construction of Qi Culture from the Meme Perspective

ABSTRACTThis paper deconstructs the profound context of Qi Culture from the perspective of Meme and constructs a structured and systematic knowledge description framework. It is useful for exploring the core values and promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of Qi Culture. The research process involves collecting user discussions and research data about Qi Culture from multiple sources, and then using the BERTopic model and qualitative analysis methods to obtain diverse examples of Qi cultural elements. Afterwards, from the Meme perspective, Qi cultural memes are extracted to construct a domain ontology, thereby achieving multi‐dimensional semantic knowledge description of Qi Culture. This study helps to reveal the core elements of culture and their relationships, and will provide strong theoretical support for the integration and utilization of cultural resources.

The Religiosity of the Banyumasan Lengger Dance: Tradition, Transformation, and Contemporary Practices

Lengger Banyumasan dance is a traditional performing art that has been practiced in the Banyumas region, Central Java, for centuries. This dance is known for its distinctive style characterized by graceful and sensual movements of female dancers called "Lengger". Originating from the pre-Islamic era, this dance was originally closely related to the spiritual and religious beliefs of the Banyumas people. This study aims to explore the religious and traditional aspects of the Lengger Banyumasan dance, as well as the transformations that have occurred in its form and function over time. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with a focus on analyzing the religious and traditional aspects of the Lengger Banyumasan dance. This study involved a literature review covering a variety of academic sources, reports, and cultural resources to gain a comprehensive understanding of the historical, cultural, and religious context of the Lengger dance. The results of this study indicate that the Lengger Banyumasan dance has strong roots in the religious and cultural traditions of the Banyumas people. This dance was originally performed as part of rituals and ceremonies aimed at promoting fertility, prosperity, and community well-being. Although the dance has undergone significant transformation, from being initially ritual-based to being more entertainment-oriented, it still maintains a strong connection to the religious beliefs of the Banyumas people. The conclusion of this study is that the Lengger Banyumasan dance is a rich and multifaceted performing art, rooted in the religious and cultural traditions of the Banyumas region. Despite changes over time, the dance remains an important part of the social and cultural fabric of the region and is increasingly recognized for its significance as a unique and valuable form of cultural expression. Conservation and promotion efforts for this dance are ongoing to ensure its sustainability as a valuable cultural heritage.

Panafricanism, cultural resilience, and biodiversity conservation: A historical perspective in the face of climate change

Pan-Africanism, a socio-political and cultural movement aimed at unifying African nations and people, has played a critical role in shaping the continent's response to global challenges, including climate change. This study explores how Pan-Africanism, cultural resilience, and biodiversity conservation intersect with the urgent issue of climate change. Pan-Africanism, which promotes unity and identity across Africa, is connected to the current need to address environmental problems. Cultural resilience, supported by traditional knowledge, plays a key role in managing resources sustainably and adapting to climate change. By combining these ideas, we can create opportunities for teamwork, sustainable farming, eco-tourism, and climate education. However, this approach also faces challenges, such as varying cultural contexts, limited resources, and balancing development with conservation. Recognizing these challenges and strategically using our strengths can help us use cultural heritage to improve climate resilience and protect biodiversity. This approach aligns with Pan-Africanism's goal of collective progress, providing a guide for societies as they navigate the complexities of climate change while preserving their cultural heritage.

Strategic Analysis for Developing Tourism in Toba Regency: A Sustainable Management Approach

Toba Regency, located in North Sumatra, Indonesia, offers vast potential for tourism development, thanks to its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and historical significance. This study analyzes the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) related to tourism in Toba Regency, utilizing a sustainable management approach to enhance the region's tourism sector. By conducting a SWOT analysis and evaluating both internal and external factors, the study identifies key strategies for boosting tourism, including improving infrastructure, increasing local community involvement, and promoting the region’s unique cultural and natural attractions at national and international levels. The findings suggest that leveraging Toba Regency's natural and cultural resources, while addressing limitations in infrastructure and community engagement, can significantly enhance its tourism potential. The strategic recommendations provided focus on sustainable practices that will benefit the local economy, preserve cultural and environmental assets, and foster long-term tourism growth.

THE NATURAL ECOSYSTEMS BETWEEN TOURIST EXPLOITATION AND DEGRADATION, CASE OF EL KALA NATIONAL PARK (ALGERIA)

Algeria is the largest country in Africa by area and is among the countries in the world that possess a rich natural and cultural heritage due to its size, diversity of regions, environments, cultures, and the civilizations that passed through it, including Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Ottomans, and others. Our study area, the El Kala National Park, is one of the most important regions in Algeria with significant natural and cultural resources. It boasts an important coastal strip with numerous beautiful beaches and tourism expansion zones that could attract investors. Additionally, it contains various ecosystems, including lakes, dunes, forests, diverse flora and fauna and historical sites from different eras, most notably the El Kala Church. However, this heritage faces degradation due to irresponsible practices, such as the destruction of vegetation in summer 2022, despite existing protective laws. These challenges prompted our study, which partly examines Algeria's policies on tourism, environmental conservation, and heritage preservation. The research methodology employs a combined approach, starting with a historical analysis of the park's status since its UNESCO world heritage classification. We then address the natural ecosystems in the area, illustrated with images, and present a comprehensive study of tourism potentials. Finally, we conduct an in-depth analysis using the SWOT method to obtain a holistic view of the region's natural ecosystems and cultural heritage. Based on our findings, we offer conclusions and recommendations to promote tourism and drive regional development while preserving the ecosystems and natural and cultural heritage of El Kala National Park from degradation and damage.

Shaping innovative change through concentrated, distributed, or hybrid leadership? Organizational resilience in women’s liberal arts colleges

ABSTRACT Decades of research suggest that women’s liberal arts colleges (WLACs) are models of excellence in supporting gender equity in higher education and society generally. But as WLACs face competition from coeducational counterparts for women students, their specialized mission compounds strong external threats to their sustainability. Consequently, these institutions may deploy different leadership approaches through which they synergize social interdependencies across the campus to innovate and thrive. To examine the connection of leadership to innovation at WLACs, we apply concentrated, distributed, and hybrid leadership theories to illuminate multi-campus case-studies of the engagement of administrative and faculty groups in academic changes taking place. Our empirical themes supported flexible perspectives on communication and decision-making: one case-site featured hybrid leadership to coordinate formal (administrative) and informal (faculty and staff) leaders in large-scale efforts, while the other case-site reflected distributed leadership via bottom-up, faculty-driven initiatives in discrete siloes of expertise on campus. Moreover, the study’s findings suggested that cultural and material resources mediated who distributed leadership, how leadership was distributed, and what was distributed, differentiating campuses’ respective social processes and outcomes of change. We discuss implications for theory, practice, and research that collectively emphasize WLACs’ mission-driven social activity, which animates their resilience and public purposes.

Development and Promotion of Military-Sports Tourism in Uzbekistan: Challenand Prospects

Military-sports tourism in Uzbekistan has emerged as a growing sector, yet its development is still in its early stages, with many untapped opportunities. Despite the country's rich natural and cultural resources, the lack of structured programs and limited awareness hampers its potential. This study addresses the gap by analyzing the current state of military-sports tourism and identifying areas for improvement. Utilizing qualitative methods, including interviews and document analysis, the research uncovers key challenges, such as inadequate infrastructure and minimal promotion efforts. Findings reveal that, while the sector is supported by government initiatives, more focused strategies are needed to enhance international and domestic tourist flow. The results highlight the importance of a comprehensive regulatory framework and targeted investment to improve tourism outcomes. These implications suggest that with proper development, military-sports tourism could significantly contribute to Uzbekistan's tourism economy and cultural visibility.

Cultural and Creative Design and Development Driven by Cultural Semiotics Hunan Zhuzhou as an Example

The purpose of this paper is to explore the application of cultural semiotics theory in the design and development of cultural and creative products, taking Zhuzhou, Hunan Province, as an example. By analyzing the rich cultural resources of Zhuzhou, the study extracts and re-designs cultural symbols with local characteristics, and then applies them to the design and development of cultural and creative products. Starting from the policy background, the study demonstrates the necessity of cultural semiotics-driven cultural and creative design and its significance to social and economic development. Through case studies, this paper elaborates on the extraction process, design principles, and specific application of Zhuzhou's cultural symbols in cultural and creative products, aiming to provide theoretical support and practical reference for the innovation and development of cultural and creative industries.

Literary Tourism in Saudi Arabia (Poetic Tourism in Najd)

This research aims to identify the potential of literary/poetic tourism in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - specifically Najd region, due to its richness with poetic heritage. The study also sought to define this type of tourism, and explain its connection to poetry, and the importance of place to the poet. It also attempts to reveal the importance of literary/poetic tourism, by associating Arabic heritage poetry to certain locations that deserves to be recognized as a tourist attraction, and be prepared to become a tourist attraction equipped with the best facilities to attract tourists of all kinds. In addition to the psychological effect these places has on the visitors and the role of poetry in the country’s cultural renaissance. Our main motivation for this study is to prove that the Arabian peninsula has a historical and unique literary/poetic treasure, as poetry is one of the most important subjects that must be introduced to tourism to maintain its sustainability and celebrate the poetic heritage. One of the most important goals sought by this research is to pin out these places and encourage the Kingdom to care and preserve them. Such initiative will open up great economic and cultural resources, in accordance with the Vision 2030, and the Ministry of Culture in its initiative of making 2023 the Year of Arabic Poetry.

Investigation of E-Complaints of Hotel Guests Towards 4 and 5-Star Kayseri City Hotels

In recent decades Kayseri has emerged as a prominent destination for winter, nature, and cultural tourism, attracting visitors to its natural and cultural resources, and gastronomic offerings. The increase in tourist numbers has also led to a corresponding expansion in the accommodation sector, accompanied by a significant rise in hotel room numbers and available bed capacity. Despite this increase, academic studies examining the quality of accommodation services in the province or addressing customer perceptions of these services are relatively limited. This exploratory study aims to analyze e-complaints regarding 4 and 5-star city hotels in Kayseri, identify the most prevalent issues articulated by guests in these complaints, and categorize and assess them. For this purpose, the researchers first identified 497 negative reviews for seven different city hotels in Kayseri on the TripAdvisor website between August and December 2023. Then these reviews were subjected to content analysis. The content analysis findings revealed that guests were mostly unhappy with "rooms and housekeeping department services", “staff attitudes and performance", "food and beverage department services" and “physical characteristics and atmosphere” of hotels.

A Framework for Estimating Economic Impacts of Ecological Restoration

Ecological restoration projects are designed to improve natural and cultural resources. Spending on restoration also stimulates economic impacts to the restoration economy through the creation or support of jobs and business activity. This paper presents accessible methods for quantifying the economic impacts supported by restoration spending and is written to be a guide and toolbox for an interdisciplinary audience of restoration practitioners and economists. Measuring the economic impacts of restoration can be challenging due to lacking or limited data. The complex, collaborative, and heterogeneous nature of restoration projects can make it difficult to clearly track costs, contributing to limited availability and inconsistency in restoration cost data. And business classification systems, such as the North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS), do not include restoration-sectors that consistently describe the patterns of restoration spending. The aims of this paper are to (1) provide restoration practitioners and program managers with a clear understanding of the application of economic impact analyses to restoration, (2) provide a framework for collecting project cost data for economic impact analyses, and (3) provide modeling best practices and an example application of the framework.

The correlative factors of enterprise culture and enterprise human resource based on data analysis and federated learning

Under the current big topic of enterprise management, how to cultivate, use, and maintain talents is the critical problem of modern human resource management. Based on big data mining, cloud computing, and other related model optimization technologies, this study explores the crucial significance of enterprise culture construction and enterprise human resource management in achieving the business objectives of the entire enterprise. The establishment of this model also means that the enterprise’s profit margin and business indicators have been improved and developed under a certain model. The case results demonstrate that the optimized competency model is significant to studying corporate culture management system behavior, policy analysis, and improving corporate human resource management policies.

Predictive Model of Risk Behaviour in the University Student Community

Aim. The study aimed to attempt to explain the probable causality of undertaken risk behaviours in a group of university students, from the perspective of various predictors (which included low individual and social resources, as well as other risk behaviours). The choice of predictors was dictated, among other things, by the assumptions of risk behaviour theory and gateway theory. Methods. The research was conducted among university students from many cities in Poland. Empirical data were collected using the survey method. The tool was a survey questionnaire, constructed from the author's scale and the Resilience Scale by Gail Wagnild in the Polish adaptation by Janusz Surzykiewicz and Karol Konaszewski (2019). The data were statistically analysed. The target procedure became path analysis. Results. The study revealed several plausible predictive factors for specific risk behaviours of students. Analyses included behavioural categories such as the use of psychoactive substances and behaviour associated with them, risky sexual contact, low physical and psychosocial health care, dangerous behaviour in daily life, and disclosure of images and private data on the Internet. Each form of risky behaviour was situated in the model. The predictive factors in the path structure were identified as, among others, low social and cultural resources and low levels of resilience. It also appeared that some risk behaviours may be predictors for others. Conclusion. The study reveals that not only syndromes of risk behaviours, but even entire risk pathways creating the possibility to infer probable causality, are noticeable in the group of university students.

Insights into the natural and cultural history of Typha orientalis (Raupō) in Aotearoa New Zealand

A new multi-proxy paleo database for lake ecosystem and catchment change in Aotearoa New Zealand points to the potential resource and ecosystem service roles of Typha orientalis (raupō). In the context of chronic wetland degradation in Aotearoa New Zealand over the past century, this iconic yet enigmatic wetland plant can be viewed, alternately, as an invasive threat; a valuable cultural and economic resource; and a natural, indigenous agent for bioremediation. Our investigation reconstructs the history of raupō over the past ~1000 years, based on 92 new pollen records generated from lake sites across Aotearoa New Zealand. At almost every site where raupō is present today, its expansion is promoted to varying extents during periods of human activity and at 87% of sites investigated, raupō shows its maximum palynological abundance post human arrival. Multiple patterns of response over time point to a range of hydrological, trophic, and cultural scenarios that are conducive for raupō expansion, raising prospects for its potential role in mitigating the ecological impacts of disturbance. Raupō expansion, promoted by anthropogenic forest clearances and associated sediment and nutrient flux, would in turn have provided new opportunities for its use as a valuable food and material resource, prompting further questions as to the extent it was deliberately managed by indigenous populations. As both a benefactor from, and provider for, expanding populations, raupō may be regarded as a human associate in Aotearoa New Zealand prehistory. As well as being indigenous to Aotearoa New Zealand, T. orientalis also occurs naturally in Australia and east Asia and shares the intrinsic ecological and morphological attributes of the ~40 species or hybrids of Typha that span most of the planet. This work therefore may encourage wider application of the genus as a biocultural asset informed from its local natural history.

Bridging Cultural Divides: The Role of Public Libraries in Taiwan in Enhancing Cultural Capital and Promoting Social Inclusion

ABSTRACT Drawing on cultural capital theory, this study investigates the activities of the National Taiwan Library (NTL) to understand how public libraries promote social inclusion by providing access to cultural resources that enhance individual and community cultural capital. The research examines how NTL contributes to the accumulation of cultural capital through its collections, programs, and services tailored to diverse groups. The findings highlight the transformative potential of public libraries in addressing societal inequalities by empowering individuals with the knowledge and cultural competence needed for active participation in society. The study underscores the importance of public libraries in bridging cultural divides and fostering a more inclusive community through strategic cultural capital development.

The role of asset-based pedagogy in an interactive view of reading

In this paper, we present an Asset-Based Interactive View of Reading that builds on the Active View of Reading, Self-Determination Theory, and Asset-Based Pedagogy to consider the role of students’ individual, linguistic, and cultural resources in understanding reading processes. We begin by discussing some of the limitations with the ways Science of Reading has been narrowly conceived, which includes the (perhaps unintended) consequences of reliance on the Simple View of Reading. We then elaborate on each of the three components of our proposed framework to address assumptions of cultural neutrality and universal application in educational psychology. We conclude with implications for research, policy, and practice.

Integration of Local Cultural Knowledge in the Community Products Design and Development

integration of local cultural knowledge in community products through the framework of cultural capital and wisdom across eight categories. A qualitative method involved in-depth interviews with 30 individuals, including 15 entrepreneurs and 15 cultural experts selected from five target communities. The findings reveal the context of local cultural knowledge available in the communities, and the integration of local cultural knowledge being integrated into the community product development processes. It is also found that despite the presence of diverse local cultures, these cultural resources are underutilized in product design and development due to a lack of knowledge and awareness regarding the significance of product identity.

Teachers’ experiences with physically inactive children and their strategies to promote physical activity in early childhood education settings

Objective: As an increasing number of children are identified as insufficiently physically active, the school environment has been targeted for efforts to promote physical activity (PA) among inactive children. While research has highlighted teachers’ role in promoting generic school-based daily PA, less is known about the early childhood education teachers’ experiences of physically inactive children and the strategies they use to promote PA. This study’s aim was to explore early childhood education teachers in Sweden’s experiences of physically inactive children and their strategies to promote PA among members of this group in their everyday school settings. Design: Qualitative interview study. Setting: Four small municipalities in Midwest Sweden. Method: Ten teachers working in early childhood education settings participated in individual semi-structured interviews. Data were analysed with a focus on teacher agency and the social, material and cultural resources teachers used to promote PA. Result: Findings indicated that teachers shoulder the worry and unarticulated responsibility for inactive children. This resulted in their use of strategies that varied and which were largely subjective in character. At the same time, teachers expressed how their agency was limited by insufficient resources. Conclusion: Teachers used social, material and cultural resources to promote PA, but their strategies were not informed by evidence or formal guidelines. None of the resources they used were specifically designed for inactive children. Instead, teachers used general resources which they adapted to inactive children’s interests and needs.

Teaching Strategies in Physical Education: A Literature Review of Practices in the United States, China, and Nigeria

This study offered a literature of Physical Education (PE) strategies employed in the United States, China, and Nigeria, shedding light on diverse approaches influenced by unique cultural, societal, and governmental factors. In the United States, a flexible and inclusive PE curriculum prioritizes student engagement and lifelong physical activity through diverse activities and personalized instruction. Conversely, China's structured PE programs emphasize discipline, physical fitness, and early talent identification, supported by robust government policies. Nigeria's PE teaching strategies integrate cultural relevance, community involvement, and adaptive resource utilization to promote physical activity despite resource constraints. Through cross-cultural learning and recommendations for government investment, teacher training, community engagement, and health education integration, stakeholders can enhance PE programs globally, fostering physical activity, sports participation, and overall well-being among students.
