新製品への代替を考慮した家電製品の廃棄台数予測

The number of discarded home electric appliances CRT TV (CRT), liquid-crystal display TV (LCD), plasma display panel TV (PDP), refrigerator, air conditioner, washing machine, microwave oven, cleaner, video cassette recorder (VCR) and (DVD) has been estimated using a population balance model. For the estimations of CRT and VCR, the effects of alternative products (LCD and PDP, and DVD, respectively) were considered. The increasing rates of the estimated number of the discarded refrigerator, the washing machine and the cleaner from 2000 to 2020 were within 5%, while those of air conditioner and microwave oven were more than 30%. The estimated number of shipped CRT and VCR were in good agreement with those of statistic values, indicating the reasonability of the estimated number of discarded LCD, PDP and DVD. As an application of the estimated data, the amount of indium included in the discarded display panel of LCD and PDP was calculated.

48.4: Development of High-Contrast CRT Based on Nano Pigment Screen Technique

We have developed the NPSCN (Nano Pigment Screen) technique, a new style phosphor screen and successfully applied it to the CRT TVs. The technique significantly improved contrast, color gamut and body color in comparison to the previous CRTs without any additional process or investment cost.

Technology overview: LCDs for TV application

Abstract— In this paper, the requirements for LCD‐TV application will be reviewed. The key factors for LCD TV for large‐sized panels and high image quality with prices competitive compared to that of CRT and PDP TV will be reviewed.

A high‐aperture‐ratio and low‐crosstalk pixel structure design for in‐plane‐switching‐mode TFT‐LCDs

Abstract— The TFT‐LCD market is growing rapidly, and the replacement of CRT TV by LCD TV requires the implementation of LC modes with wide viewing angles and high brightness. The IPS mode is an excellent technology to realize wide viewing angles, but it has a low aperture ratio that has now been improved by Advanced Super‐IPS (AS‐IPS). In this paper, we propose a novel pixel structure design that not only increases the aperture ratio but also reduces the crosstalk. We have improved the current AS‐IPS aperture ratio by 1.25 times and effectively reduced the capacitive coupling ratio from 1.2% to 0.05%.

The Importance of Contrast and its Effect on Image Quality

The impact that contrast has on image quality—both subjectively and quantitatively—with respect to rear projection televisions (RPTVs) is explored as a function of average picture level (APL). Measurements of a DLP™ RPTV and a direct view CRT TV are com-pared in order to understand the importance that total system contrast has on perceived contrast, sharpness, and overall image quality as a function of APL. The response of the human eye to both brightness and contrast (as a function of APL) of the TV images is modeled. The effect of different ambient conditions is also considered, to understand the impact that ambient lighting has on the eye's response and how it affects the perceived contrast performance of the typical RPTV.

11.4: Invited Paper: “EBU Color Filter for LCDs”

AbstractIf LCDs can really catch up with and even take over from CRTs in Color, it has been the subject of debate yearly and still is. In October 1998 we officially announced a new color filter for LCD, EBU‐CF, which conforms to the EBU color standard for High Vision CRT Television. After various evaluations with a few LCD manufacturers, we have started its mass production. The color reproduction of these LCD Televisions have been highly evaluated and hoped for new applications of LCDs. The sRGB‐CF has been also supplied for LCD monitor which conforms to CRT monitor standard, sRGB, with a small modification of the green color of EBU‐CF. Using the EBU‐CF together with several means for high response, high color purity and high contrast, the large‐sized LCD TV have realized a better color reproduction and higher quality than CRT TV.

27.3: Invited Paper: Prospects of Large Size TV Displays using LCD

AbstractIn this paper, the change of TV viewing styles is discussed based on the result of the consumer survey. Then the market of LCD TVs is forecasted. Picture formats and screen sizes for LCD TVs are discussed. Picture quality is compared between CRT TVs and LCD TVs. Then several quality items of LCD TVs such as contrast ratio, viewing angle, response speed and color reproduction are discussed. Subjective assessment methods of picture quality are introduced. Finally examples of specifications of LCD TVs commercially available on the market are given.

Defect Chemistry and Luminescence of ZnS: Cu, Au, Al

Present high quality CRT TV sets employ wurtzite–(Zn,Cd)S:Cu,Al phosphor or its Cd-free variant sphalerite-ZnS:Cu,Au,Al to generate the green primary colour. If prepared properly, both phosphors exhibit the desired emission properties. However, the Au-codoped material tends to large variations of the emission as a function of the preparation procedure and thus is more demanding in terms of precise control of the manufacturing process. – This work aims at a better understanding of these peculiarities. Experiments are presented which demonstrate the large influence of the defect chemistry of the ZnS-host on the Au-related emission, whereas the Cu-related emission is affected to a lesser extent. – Possible techniques for a fine-tuning of the emission spectrum are discussed and evaluated according to the requirements of screen manufacture.
