When croconate violet 1. a dye with strong visible absorption and reversible redox behavior, is microeneaged by a polymer, its fluorescence quantum yield increases by a factor of 8; the fluorescence lifetime increases from <9 ps to 28 ps. The influence of the polymer [poly(4-vinyl-pyridine)] on the photochemical properties of the dye is discussed.
