Creep Relaxation of Plexiglas IIA for Simple Stresses

Theories for predicting creep relaxation relations for tension, compression and bending based on constant stress tension and compression creep relations; tests show that for material tested, there is good agreement between theoretical predictions and actual behavior.

Prediction of Creep-Deflection and Stress Distribution in Beams From Creep in Tension

Abstract A method of predicting creep in bending from data on creep in tension has been derived and applied to creep of a canvas laminate. Both creep deflections and stress distribution were derived. The deflections compared favorably with test data. It was shown that the stress distribution remained constant during creep in bending when creep in tension and compression were equal and the coefficient of the time-dependent term was equal to the time-independent term. Methods of determining creep deflections of beams having nonuniform bending moments are described.

Correlation of Tension Creep Tests With Relaxation Tests

Abstract This paper shows that analytical solutions to the bolt relaxation problem, based upon empirical creep-data equations may be obtained by direct substitution, rather than by differentiation and integration, as was done by Soderberg, Popov, and Housner.

Bending of Beams with Creep

A method of calculating stresses and deflections for beams whose material creeps is presented in this paper. Complete tension creep test data at constant temperature are used to define creep characteristics of the material. Then by using Bernoulli's hypothesis of plane sections and the techniques developed earlier for interpretation of the relaxation creep tests, a method of beam analysis is shown. Stresses and deflections may be calculated for any desired time interval. This includes the time prior to the occurrence of the steady state creep. The latter aspect appears to have been ignored by others.

Correlation of Tension Creep Tests With Relaxation Tests

Abstract This paper shows that a satisfactory estimate of a relaxation graph may be obtained from the usual tension creep curves. The validity of methods for simple relaxation is demonstrated on the basis of experimental agreement between calculated and test results. Inadequacy of the usual methods of computations are pointed out by comparison with the test results. Then the analytical schemes that appear satisfactory are extended for relaxation with the elastic follow-up.

Creep Properties of Molded Phenolic Plastics at Elevated Temperatures

Abstract To augment the small amount of published data on the creep properties of thermosetting materials, the authors undertook a study of the behavior of molded phenolic plastics at approximately 192 F. Tension creep data are reported up to 1000 hr, and recovery data up to 250 hr. Modulus-of-elasticity values were obtained at the beginning and end of the 1000-hr tests. Studies included the effect of moisture content on creep properties.
