The article is devoted to the analysis of two translations of S. Mallarmé's sonnet «Gift of the Poem», made by Russian poets. The article is the first to examine the translation perception and creative reinterpretation of S. Mallarmé's metaphors of the creative process and the poetic work by I.F. Annenskii and M.V. Talov, and to perform a comparative analysis of translations. The revealed peculiarity of the perception of S. Mallarmé's poetic images by Russian poets demonstrates a variety of approaches reflecting the individual characteristics of the poetic philosophy and the creative method of translators, which leads to the transformation of not only the form, but also the intonation, meaning and expressive features of the original.

Investigating the relationship between stereotyping and creativity during marketing campaigns in marketeers and audiences

Stereotyping others in a creative process may negatively affect creative output, yet there is currently scant empirical evidence of a link between stereotyping and creativity; here, we explore this link in marketing communications. In a quasi-experiment, we introduced a novel intervention to disrupt marketeers’ dependency on stereotypes and boost their creativity. The intervention decreased marketeers’ use of stereotypes when selecting consumer labels—descriptive labels of a typical consumer based on consumer information—while enhancing the creativity of ideas. In another set of online experiments, we asked British residents to rate the creativity of advertisements and purchase intentions toward advertising products with different levels of stereotypical depictions of people. We found a linear relationship between the stereotypical depictions of people in advertisements and perceived creativity. We also observed a potential U-shaped relationship between stereotypical representations of people in advertisements and purchase intention, such that advertisements with low and high stereotypical representations induced greater purchase intention than did those with medium stereotypical representations. Finally, we discuss the psychological mechanisms that potentially link stereotyping and creativity and the implications for marketing communications.

The practicality of student worksheets on the Scientific Creativity project-based Learning (SCPjBL) model to improve scientific creativity as a creative process for Physics Education students

The aim of this reseach was to describe the practicality of the SCPjBL model, based on the results of the implementation of scientific investigations to improve students' scientific creativity on Student Worksheets (LKM). The method in this study is the development of a modified model and applied in universities in 2024. The sample in this study was 90 students from two different universities. Data were collected based on the results of validation and observation of the implementation of the SCPjBL model. The assessment instrument used an implementation observation sheet carried out by two observers. The observation sheet was filled in by four observers who were divided into two observers who were tasked with observing the implementation of the SCPjBL model phase, and two others observed student activities, the results of the observations were then analyzed quantitatively. The results of the study were in the form of implementation results by obtaining an average score of 3.72 with an average validity percentage of 91% with a very practical category. The results of the practicality of the SCPjBL model and its supporting devices obtained a score of 3.56 with an average implementation percentage reaching 91%. Based on the results of the study, the SCPjBL model was declared practical and feasible for use.

Unlocking the Perfect Beat: Reflections on Musical Hybridisation in the Work of Lander Gyselinck

ABSTRACT This article explores the artistic and scientific practices of Lander Gyselinck, focusing on the hybridisation of jazz and beat-based electronic dance genres. The research investigates how cross-fertilisation can stretch boundaries and break conventions in rhythm, harmony, and texture. Through an integrated approach of art and research, Gyselinck examines the symbiosis between man and machine to inspire new creative processes. Employing a cyclical methodology of discovery, listening, transcribing, studying, creating, and composing, Gyselinck reveals a dynamic interplay between inspiration and systematic practice. This process has enriched his artistic-creative practice, resulting in a new musical language and techniques. The composition Sun Salutations from the album Disleksikon exemplifies these innovative rhythmic and textural elements, illustrating how the Footwork genre has influenced Gyselinck's drumming. This article reflects on Gyselinck's artistic journey, offering insights into the genesis of his music and methodologies. By documenting these processes, the work contributes to the on-going hybridisation and evolution of music, providing valuable perspectives for other musicians to enrich their own practices.

The Limbo Party

This piece is comprised of video stills from The Limbo Party, an audio-visual collaborative project cumulated through a long-term creative and dialogical process that explored representations of human mobility, archaeology, and landscape between 2017 and 2019. The Limbo Party features a group of “limbo experts,” Tivoli Föreningen, a self-organized association of refugees in southern Sweden. Initially, members of this group came together to learn Swedish, but then later expanded to include a wide range of practical and leisure activities. This led to the development of The Limbo Party, an arts-based investigation that considers how spatio-temporal concepts, such as limbo and twilight, can be metaphorically connected to the state(s) of waiting for asylum or other such permits. In so doing, the project explores the relationship between middle states, potential states, and suspended states in relation to migration. Together we interpreted and materialised concepts of limbo, investigating its limits and potentialities as a fertile, subversive and creative space. The first part of the process connected the contemporary reality of refugees living in Blekinge with a nearby iron-age pagan cult site. Banners were produced and placed on the ‘Dansbana’ (a typical space for dancing during social gatherings) of the local social centre followed by a party and twilight walks through the area of great archaeological significance. A second phase saw the conception and creation of a messenger-object from limbo and its ‘finding’ in the local landscape along with the the message/gift it was sent to communicate.

“When I go back to painting, I am ‘Alice in Wonderland”: older women coping with age-related crises through visual artmaking

ABSTRACT Background The creative process of visual artmaking provides an opportunity for older women to express themselves and explore their emotions, thoughts, and experiences. This study examined the roles of visual artmaking in older women’s lives in general and in relation to the ongoing challenges of aging. Methods The sample was composed of 21 Israeli women aged 60-90, who indicated that they produced visual artworks on an ongoing basis. The participants’ artworks were collected, and semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted. Results A thematic analysis of the interviews revealed 4 themes: visual artmaking to address the challenges of older women’s lives, artwork as a framework for doing, visual artmaking to support the wellbeing of older women, artwork as channel of communication and stronger ties with family members. Conclusions The findings contribute to a better understanding of the roles of visual art in older women’s lives, especially in times of crisis.

The making of the ‘Old Town Sakon Nakhon creative district’ in Thailand: A process evaluation study of the creative placemaking agenda through festivalisation

This article looks at the creative district development process of a rural area in Thailand and sheds light on the transformative potential of utilising arts- and culture-based activities like festivals as a rural community development and regeneration strategy towards its creative placemaking agenda. Using Old Town District, Sakon Nakhon as a case study, this research investigates the application and implementation of the creative district concept outside of the usual urban centres and as a specific output of the development process. It utilises the logic model framework in evaluating the process and is further supported by interviews, focus group, observations, and document analysis in examining the various contexts surrounding its development and in analysing festivalisation as its main operational approach. Key findings highlight Thailand's political context and the selective community engagement as major barriers to the process. It also underscores the lack of authenticity and the quasi-coerced participation of the residents in the curation of the festival, reducing the locals' sense of place and belongingness instead of enriching it. This paper concludes that there is a shortfall in theory and implementation on the creative district development process of the Old Town District.

Arts-based evaluation of the Communities ChooseWell program

Arts-based evaluation is an effective and fun way to engage people and uncover meaningful, valid results. In this project, an arts-based approach was used to gain an understanding of the effects the Communities ChooseWell Program has had according to the Champions’ experiences. We wanted to identify what changes, if any, has Communities ChooseWell fostered through the past 10 years? This evaluation was completed using an arts-based approach which allowed us to explore varied long-term effects in different contexts. The creative process allowed for an open approach not predetermining the nature of potential effects. It also gave the participants space to identify what matters the most according to the ChooseWell Champions. This evaluation was in addition to evaluation requirements from the ChooseWell programs funder. In this article we will first present the context of evaluation and state our positionality. We will then present the methodology and methods. Finally, we will present and discuss the results and recommendations.

Music-Evoked Thoughts

Music listening can evoke a range of extra-musical thoughts, from colors and smells to autobiographical memories and fictional stories. We investigated music-evoked thoughts as an overarching category, to examine how the music’s genre and emotional expression, as well as familiarity with the style and liking of individual excerpts, predicted the occurrence, type, novelty, and valence of thoughts. We selected 24 unfamiliar, instrumental music excerpts evenly distributed across three genres (classical, electronic, pop/rock) and two levels of expressed valence (positive, negative) and arousal (high, low). UK participants (N = 148, Mage = 28.68) heard these 30-second excerpts, described any thoughts that had occurred while listening, and rated various features of the thoughts and music. The occurrence and type of thoughts varied across genres, with classical and electronic excerpts evoking more thoughts than pop/rock excerpts. Classical excerpts evoked more music-related thoughts, fictional stories, and media-related memories, while electronic music evoked more abstract visual images than the other genres. Positively valenced music and more liked excerpts elicited more positive thought content. Liking and familiarity with a style also increased thought occurrence, while familiarity decreased the novelty of thought content. These findings have key implications for understanding how music impacts imagination and creative processes.

On Writing a Translator's Biography: Bringing Barbara Bray out of the Archives

Barbara Bray (1924-2010) was an outstanding woman of letters – radio producer and editor in the 1950s, writer and journalist in the 1960s, screenwriter in the 1970s, theatre director in the 1990s, and translator during all that time. Even though Bray played a crucial part in Beckett's creative process across three decades, she was also one of his most obscure collaborators. In this essay, I reflect upon the writing of her biography, focusing on some of the theoretical points that surfaced when trying to make a female creator come out of the shadows. I discuss the methodological and ethical choices made in the composition of the monograph, and highight the feminist intention presiding over its writing as well as the paradoxes revealed while doing so.

Artificial Intelligence, Copyright Registration, and the Rule of Doubt

Artificial intelligence (“AI”) technology has detonated an explosive burst of seemingly creative expression. Stories, images, music, and even entire books are now being generated very quickly. This development is a major headache for copyright registrars because the copyrightability of works created in this way is uncertain. The almost limitless variability in the extent of human involvement in the creation of a work using an AI tool compounds the uncertainty. In some cases, copyrightability is easy to determine, such as where an author only claims rights in the selection and arrangement of AI-generated output rather than the output itself. But in many cases the registrability of a work created with the aid of an AI technology is far from certain. In these situations, the Copyright Office should apply a rule of doubt to allow registration. This solution appears to be a novel idea, at least as a permanent solution to the problems AI has generated. Nevertheless, approaching the problem in this way would protect authors’ rights to any original contributions they make to AI-assisted works, authors’ interests in the privacy of their creative processes, the interests of authors whose works may have been used without their consent to train AI, and the ability of alleged infringers to challenge the existence and scope of claimed copyrights in AI-generated and AI-assisted works. It would also ease the burden on copyright examiners.

Ephemeral mapping of changing perception of place through creative practice

ABSTRACT One's perception of place is in constant flux, shaped by experience, memories, and feelings over time. Time and perception of place are inextricably linked, where the transient nature of time and one's perception of place affects one's understanding of the world. This transience challenges cartography. This paper reports on the outcomes of a year-long mapping project (A Walk in the Park), where the effects of time on perception of place could be seen through recording personal experiences of being in the park. The outcomes of these experiences were used to develop a new model of reflective practice which is called the Interdisciplinary Model of Creative Practice. This model and an accompanying tool, the brief, was employed to create ephemeral mapping prototypes from records of my experiences and ideas about time and perception of place from the scholarly literature. The model builds a creative mapping process by drawing from and weaving together the perspectives of scientific cartography, design, and artistic expression. Using the example of ephemeral mapping, this paper shows how one can use this Interdisciplinary Model of Creative Practice, describing the approach for other researchers, cartographers, designers, or artists who might utilise the model and tools offered in this paper for their own creative practice.

Figurability in the Art of Louise Bourgeois

Abstract: Manifest as the trauma of birth by being ejected from the womb, abandonment spread like grief and anxiety throughout Louise Bourgeois’s life (1911–2010). She transformed this anxiety into works of art, for which words are inadequate since the origin is preverbal and therefore unrepresented. She uses a capacity for figurability , creating objects that give shape to emotions and fantasies that have not been conceived or represented but registered on a primordial unconscious level. This capacity is possible through a state, not of regression, but regredience , a creative transformational process, which, as a “loom of the psyche,” is constantly weaving threads and ideas together that form links to ahistorical unrep-resented trauma for the work of figurability. I seek to give meaning to three of Bourgeois’s sculptures here, Fée couturière (1963), Le Regard (1966), and Portrait (1963), by suggesting that they bring shape to and illuminate the trauma of birth, laying to rest, at least temporarily, the ghosts that haunt the artist.

Ageism and Social Media Expertise: Implications for Intergenerational Dynamics in Advertising Creativity

Abstract: Intergenerational tensions in the creative departments of advertising agencies have long been a topic of interest. Recently, the emergence of social media proficiency as a symbol of youthfulness has intensified these tensions, creating contested expertise within workplaces. The article explores how this particular marker of ageism influences the creative processes and identity formation of practitioners who are older than the average age of industry workers. Drawing from in-depth interviews with twenty-one creatives (copywriters, art directors, and creative directors), this qualitative study reveals that, in response to feeling sidelined based on perceptions that they lack social media expertise, "older" creatives reaffirm their strategic experience yet resist challenging claims they are "out of touch" with online cultures. We argue that the valorisation of younger practitioners' social media savviness is contributing to the transformation of advertising creativity while placing additional pressure on practitioners to leave the industry while in their thirties. Furthermore, the article identifies broader concerns regarding ageism in society, which advertising content can exacerbate when creatives rely on flawed stereotypes to shape knowledge of audiences or cultural representations.

Baabus Shiaam's Poetry as a Media for Education in Religious Values

Oral literature is a type of literary work produced by society based on a creative process, in which the values ​​and norms of life are conveyed orally, using language as the medium. Poetry is one of the oral literary works that is currently less popular with the public, especially the younger generation. This happens because they just read without delving into the meaning of the poetry, so that the true purpose and meaning are not conveyed to the reader. In fact, if understood in depth, poetry is not only a literary work that functions as entertainment, but poetry can also function as an educational medium. One of them is the poem Baabus Shiaam, this poem not only contains aesthetic values, but also contains religious values ​​in it. This research aims to review the actual meaning and role of Baabus Shiaam poetry, especially in teaching Islamic religious values. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. Interview techniques, recording, documentation, transcription, and transliteration are all used in data collection methods. The results of this research are that the poetry of Baabus Shiaam has the aim of creating something related to people's lives, namely helping people recognize and remember things related to fasting. Apart from that, the poet also teaches religious values ​​through this poetry. So, it can be concluded that Baabus Shiaam's poetry has a very important role, namely functioning as a medium for education and teaching Islamic religious values ​​to society.

PROSES KREATIF MUA (MAKE UP ARTIST) PEKALONGAN DALAM MENGHADAPI TANTANGAN DI ERA DIGITAL

ABSTRACTThe arts industry is an industry that requires talent, creativity and innovation. Bridal make-up is an industry that must be equipped with these three elements. This is interesting to research because creativity must compete in the midst of the digital era, where a MUA (Make Up Artist) must be clever at brainstorming by continuing to be creative and innovative and have an adaptive attitude to adapt to challenges in the digital era in order to maintain its existence. This research aims to determine the creative process of a MUA (Make Up Artist) in Pekalongan and the challenges of a Pekalongan MUA (Make Up Artist) in facing challenges in the digital era. This research is a type of qualitative research. The research method used is the descriptive-analysis method. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, literature study and documentation study. The analysis used is data analysis starting from data collection, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Creative process engagement for regulating integral and incidental anger

Research suggests that creative task performance may lead to either more positive or negative mood states depending on the type of creative thinking process engaged. While this literature establishes a relationship with mood states, the effects of creativity on specific discrete emotions (i.e., anger, anxiety) remain unexamined. Additionally, the extent to which discrete emotions that are incidental or integral to task context warrants consideration, as the nature of the emotions felt may affect the extent to which they are regulated through creative task performance. Two laboratory studies were conducted in which participants were randomly assigned to be induced with either incidental or integral state anger or state anxiety, and then either generated ideas (study one) or evaluated ideas (study two) prior to self-reporting their emotional states. Results indicated that while integral and incidental state anger are lessened after generating or evaluating ideas, the extent to which one feels anxiety is unaffected by performing either task. Implications of these findings provide new avenues for emotion regulation research and recommendations for utilizing creative processes to mitigate different types of state anger.

Lumos: AI-driven prompt optimisation tool for assisting conceptual design

AI drawing tools, which rely on high-quality prompts to guide and refine the creative process, have the potential to enhance efficiency and quality during the conceptual design stage. However, addressing the inherent accuracy issues of AI is crucial. This study explores the efficiency and usability of integrating AI drawing with prompt optimisation tools and introduces a GPT-based prompt optimisation tool for validation. Experiment results indicate that, during the divergent thinking stage of concept design, both junior and senior designers using this tool reduced their average time consumption by 35.6% and 21.6%, respectively. Expert evaluations of the generated images reveal higher selection rates for images produced after prompt optimisation with this tool compared to those generated using natural language. These findings underscore the tool's potential to boost productivity and improve the usability of generated images, thereby expanding designers’ imaginative boundaries and enhancing their ability to leverage AI for streamlined workflows.

Diversity is not inclusion: a four-dimensional approach to corporate creative-intensive ecosystems

This paper aims at presenting a four-dimensional approach to studying and managing creative-intensive ecosystems, namely flows, spaces, temporalities, and processes. The study departs from a sociocultural approach and draws on the authors’ qualitative research on innovation management, historical facts, and related studies on creativity. The research corpus includes 11 semi-structured interviews (13 hours and 37 minutes) with innovation managers with experience in large companies in Brazil and interpreted with a framework analysis technique. The text concludes that the potential of corporate creative processes lies in their ability to manage communication flows, spaces, temporalities, and processes that allow for systemic differentiation between more conservative social arrangements. The dimensions are deductively implied from the results of the framework analysis.
