The application of landsenses ecology in language carriers

ABSTRACT In recent years, the study of ecolinguistics has made great progress in the integration of other disciplines and in discourse analysis. Ecological discourse analysis effectively illustrates the ecological potentials in discourse from a micro-level perspective, but the macro process of these ecological potentials is not clear. In this paper, the macro process of language intervening society is presented by illustrating the landsense creation of language, based on landsenses ecology and taking harmonious discourse as an example. And McNemar test is used to demonstrate the interventional function of anti-fur language in subjects’ psychology and behavior, following the discussion of the hierarchical relationship among fur advertisements, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and ecosystem services. Landsenses ecology and ecolinguistics are disciplines with the vision of realizing the sustainable development of ecosystem and human society, and the macro-intervention process of language can be effectively clarified by the concept of landsense creation in landsenses ecology, which can fully demonstrate the role of language in the sustainable relationship between human beings and other living beings.

Cross-linguistic collocational networks in the L1 Turkish–L2 English mental lexicon

According to the Collocational Priming Theory, every word is primed to co-occur with particular other related words and priming could be regarded as the source of our creative language system. Previous research has shown evidence of collocational priming in both L1 and L2 users of English and has indicated that L2 processing is influenced by L1 collocations. This study attempts to further our understanding of the relationship between first and second language collocations through the paradigm of cross-linguistic priming. That is, it will test the extent to which individual words in one language prime recognition of those words’ collocates in the other language. Results suggest a complex picture of both cross-linguistic priming and cross-linguistic inhibition, operating differently across different part of speech combinations. They also suggest important methodological influences which future research will need to investigate. Findings are discussed in the light of the current bilingual mental lexicon models and some implications are drawn based on the observed collocational networks in the L1 Turkish–L2 English bilingual mental lexicon.

Decadent women poets: translingual thresholds

ABSTRACT Though the field of decadence is currently being reformulated as a global phenomenon (the result of a major move in literary studies towards World Literature), the rich culture of modern languages present in the work of women writers remains mostly unexplored. This essay uses as case studies poems by Christina Rossetti and Sarojini Naidu. Through a translingual framework, it reflects on the continual mediation of languages present in their work, the result of their cosmopolitan, multilingual lives. Emphasizing the creative energy modern languages brought to their decadent works, the essay highlights their linguistic experimentalism and how they destabilized the masculine and imperialist politics of the English language. The overall aim of this essay is to underscore that there is a larger linguistic and cultural history of women’s decadence that needs to be written by many critics working in many languages and cultures.

Before, Between, and After: Enriching Robot Communication Surrounding Collaborative Creative Activities.

Research in creative robotics continues to expand across all creative domains, including art, music and language. Creative robots are primarily designed to be task specific, with limited research into the implications of their design outside their core task. In the case of a musical robot, this includes when a human sees and interacts with the robot before and after the performance, as well as in between pieces. These non-musical interaction tasks such as the presence of a robot during musical equipment set up, play a key role in the human perception of the robot however have received only limited attention. In this paper, we describe a new audio system using emotional musical prosody, designed to match the creative process of a musical robot for use before, between and after musical performances. Our generation system relies on the creation of a custom dataset for musical prosody. This system is designed foremost to operate in real time and allow rapid generation and dialogue exchange between human and robot. For this reason, the system combines symbolic deep learning through a Conditional Convolution Variational Auto-encoder, with an emotion-tagged audio sampler. We then compare this to a SOTA text-to-speech system in our robotic platform, Shimon the marimba player.We conducted a between-groups study with 100 participants watching a musician interact for 30 s with Shimon. We were able to increase user ratings for the key creativity metrics; novelty and coherence, while maintaining ratings for expressivity across each implementation. Our results also indicated that by communicating in a form that relates to the robot’s core functionality, we can raise likeability and perceived intelligence, while not altering animacy or anthropomorphism. These findings indicate the variation that can occur in the perception of a robot based on interactions surrounding a performance, such as initial meetings and spaces between pieces, in addition to the core creative algorithms.

Elements of language creativity

Abstract This paper proposes a concept of creativity that stems from a semiotic and linguistic theoretical perspective, in which the formal frame of reference for variation and linguistic change considers and evaluates both the process of general interaction and the contact of languages as a global phenomenon. This method proposes an analysis of creativity that ranges from reflections of ancient philosophy to a contemporary linguistic perspective, incorporates international ideologies, and identifies, within the dimensions of use and social sharing, the principle capable of guiding potentially unlimited forms of linguistic creativity that are self-expressive and communicative, far beyond the grammatical patterns of regularity and norm. Interpreting the paradigm of creativity according to this model means placing the semiotic property in a position of prima inter pares, entrusted not only with the “role” of forming signs (words, sentences, texts), but the function of arbitraire, as a phenomenon of language creation. The following reading references the semiotic contribution of Tullio De Mauro, an Italian linguist who has contributed to the systematization of creativity, overcoming and synthesizing both Saussurian structuralism and Chomskyan generativism.

The Development of Sustainable Assessment during the COVID-19 Pandemic: The Case of the English Language Program in South Korea

The COVID-19 pandemic has posed challenges to educational systems around the world. In particular, language learning environments being impacted by the pandemic has resulted in a shift from traditional in-person to online language teaching. This paper examines the case of an English language program in South Korea to investigate how the sudden transition to online language teaching has influenced language instructors’ teaching and assessment practice. The current study also examines the level of satisfaction of instructors and students with the changing form of English language teaching and assessment practices. Results showed that a professional learning community was formed by instructors to engage in regular communication as an attempt to develop new forms of assessment practices that were process-oriented and formative. Instructors also assigned multimodal projects to promote sustainable assessments where students could actively utilize target language forms and structures. Students were highly satisfied with new forms of language assessment practices, whereas instructors’ level of satisfaction towards their language assessment practices were somewhat low. Findings provided educators with language assessment suggestions that can offer language instructors ideas to deliver more creative and sustainable language assessment strategies that can promote self-regulated learning and sustainable development.

“Visual Metaphor” and “Metonymy” as the Reflection of Creative Thought in Art: An Analysis on Graphic Designer Yossi Lemel’s Poster Designs on the Coronavirus (Covid-19) from Charles Forceville’s Perspective

Works designed with visual metaphors and metonymies (posters, photographs, paintings, etc.) are considered to be strong in creativity and effective in meaning construction. This study analyzes selected poster designs of one of the most famous graphic designers of the world, Yossi Lemel, on the coronavirus (Covid-19). The scope of the study is limited to visual metaphors and metonymies. Based on the similarities between concepts, metaphors and metonymies are the most important signs in visual semiotics analyses. Symbols, codes, myths, and visual oxymorons are other signs that should be studied; however, limiting the study to metaphors and metonymies that are grounded on similarities, it is aimed to discuss the topic in detail. The purpose of the study is to put forth how the concepts formed in our minds are visualized by using metaphors and metonymies and to reveal the aesthetics these signs bring into visual designs. Finding and using metaphors is an important creativity activity that makes the receiver read the meaning easily from a different point. These are important elements of semiotics that build up works with strong creativity. It is this creative language that makes Lemel’s social and political posters important.

<p>Social media was a proof of the rapid development in information technology. It was in line with the appearance of slang words formed by its users. Most of social media users were teenagers. The rapid of vacabulary creation of slang language was a proof of linguistics creativity formed by social media’s users mostly teenagers. This research aimed to identify words form of slang language found in instagram feeds and comments column. The data was slang words collected by using observation methods with screenshot and note taking techniques. Data was taken from instagram feeds and comments of @dagelan and @memecomic.id. The result showed that words forms of slang language classified into some forms, namely (1) acronym, (2) abreviation, (3) contraction, (4) klipping, (5) walikan form, (6) borrowing from foreign language, (7) association, (8) monophonization, (9) infiltration of vocal letters, (10) words formed by improving from original words, and (11) new words formed of the creativity of instagram users.</p>

THE MOTHERHOOD CONTINENT AS A WRITING SPACE IN THE WORKS OF JASMINA TEŠANOVIĆ

The phenomenon of motherhood is a challenging focus for research in the feminist literary theory/critique. The motherhood continent as a controversial point of contention in the society has become (or remains) a polemicized field between the traditionalism, critical, essentialist feminism and epistemology. Advocating for the deconstruction of social postulates of patriarchy starts with a revision of the positive connotations of motherhood, demonization of abortion/birth control, and the right to birth self-determination. In the struggle for power and control at the waning of matriarchy, the androcentric order established the purpose, model and objectives of motherhood. The examination in this work destabilizes elements of motherhood in A Women's Book, The Mermaids, Matrimonium, and Nefertiti Was Here. The objective of this work is to deconstruct the concept of motherhood that is present in our paternal/patriarchal traditions by denouncing the harmful and deeply rooted stereotypes. Simultaneously the work exposes and highlights the need for affirmation of authentic feminine legacy, elucidates aspects of the mother daughter relationship, and promotes the accomplishments of regional literature. In this scientific approach to the phenomenon of motherhood, the work makes use of such theoretical concepts as: ideology of intensive motherhood, creation of body language and women's writing, motherly instinct, maternal ideology, matriarchy and mythology, the black continent, identification with the mother, as well as the mother-daughter relationship, the child's belonging, motherhood and non-motherhood and abortion-birth sterility. The inclusion of these themes in the narratives is an indicative question of the subjective affirmative experience of motherhood, where we find transcendental impulses for generating women's language and creation, which juxtapose ideological norms, intensity of motherhood and achieve autonomy in literary creation.

Theoretical approach to E-learning quality

Introduction. Over the past decade, as technology coupled with the increasingly frequent use of the internet have become the forefront of business and academia, e-learning has emerged on the global higher education stage as a leading means of gaining an education in Higher Education. Because internet-based learning is currently such a relevant topic, inter alia due to the occurrence of the pandemic, there is a dire need for the creation of a common language to proceed in a collectively positive direction regarding the development of a culture of excellence within e-learning. This paper provides a springboard to discuss the underlying issues and challenges related to quality of internet-based learning, including the need for right measuring, and understanding dimensions of e-learning quality.
 Aim and tasks. The quality of education needs to be addressed (measured and managed) comprehensively, which means that, in addition to pedagogical aspects, it is also necessary to address the market quality. Therefore, a distinction must be made between quality that meets specifications (standard quality) and quality that meets expectations. Therefore, the main aim of the article is to review the different definitions of quality in e-learning and the dimensions that must be included in measuring the quality of e-learning.
 Results. Based on an extensive review of the literature on quality in e-learning, we conclude that the quality of e-learning cannot be viewed only from the student's perspective, but from the point of view of all participants in the e-learning process. In addition to pedagogical aspects, organizational, economic, and legal aspects must also be considered. What dimensions are key to measuring quality in e-learning thus remains a question to be answered.
 Conclusions. The quality of e-learning depends on many factors. Despite many discussions about quality and the search for appropriate dimensions of quality in e-learning, there is still no single evaluative standard. Because of this, effective qualitative metrics for e-learning are urgently required.

The morphological analysis and synthesis of word forms in the linguistic analyzer

This article is dedicated to the issue of morphological analysis and synthesis of word forms in a linguistic analyzer, which is a significant feature of corpus linguistics. The article discourses in detail the morphological analysis, the creation of artificial language, grammar and analyzer, the general scheme of the analysis program that "recognizes" the natural language, the types of analysis (identifying) software, the purpose of the analysis, some approaches in the information search engine. The possibility of using a number of tools in the design of a morphological analyzer, their function and features are described in detail.

Optimization of semisolid extrusion (pressure-assisted microsyringe)-based 3D printing process for advanced drug delivery application

3D printing of pharmaceutical formulations requires juggling between the material properties and the printing process to achieve the geometry of the 3D printed products with the desired dose and release. The purpose of the current investigation is to identify the material suitability for semisolid extrusion-based 3D printing of advanced drug delivery system. In this study, the semisolid extrusion-based 3D printing technique was optimized to print a controlled release shell as a vehicle/carrier for oral drug delivery system. The consistency of the printable paste was optimized by screening different solvents for the polymer of interest (cellulose acetate as optimum) to achieve the desired continuous and uniform extrudability behavior. The polarity of the solvent played important role in the selection of the suitable solvent for the optimization process. The nozzle shape (tapered tip as optimum) and the nozzle diameter (630 µm as optimum) were found to be also significantly influenced by extrusion behavior. The printing pressure (60 psi) and speed (4 mm/s) were optimized to reach the required rate of extrusion during the 3D printing process. The thickness and the width of the printed layers have contributed to the creation of the standard triangle language (STL) G-code for the printing of the 3D drug delivery system. It was found that the first printed layer deposited on a particular type of substrate plays a significant role to influence the spreadable behavior of extruded materials. Finally, the present study design proposes a rational guideline for the semisolid extrusion-based 3D printing of pharmaceutical products of specific interest for personalized medicine.

Flexible Semantic Network Structure Supports the Production of Creative Metaphor

ABSTRACT Metaphors are a common way to express creative language, yet the cognitive basis of figurative language production remains poorly understood. Previous studies found that higher creative individuals can better comprehend novel metaphors, potentially due to a more flexible semantic memory network structure conducive to remote conceptual combination. The present study extends this domain to creative metaphor production and examined whether the ability to produce creative metaphors is related to variation in the structure of semantic memory. Participants completed a creative metaphor production task and two verbal fluency tasks. They were divided into two equal groups based on their creative metaphor production score. The semantic networks of these two groups were estimated and analyzed based on their verbal fluency responses using a computational network science approach. Results revealed that the semantic networks of high-metaphor producing individuals were more flexible, clustered, and less rigid than that of the low-metaphor producing individuals. Importantly, these results replicated across both semantic categories. The findings provide the first evidence that a flexible, clustered, and less rigid semantic memory structure relates to people’s ability to produce figurative language, extending the growing literature on the role of semantic networks in creativity to the domain of metaphor production.

Translingual arts-based practices for language learners

Abstract In this article, we advocate for the enriching role of arts-based practices in the delivery of a translingual pedagogic approach. With a growing interest in translanguaging, ELT practitioners are searching for models and creative ideas that foster a translingual environment for their learners. We have responded to this call and developed a collaborative project entitled ‘Creative Language Practices: Exploring Translanguaging in Pedagogical Contexts and Beyond’. The project brought together language researchers from the University of Glasgow, creative artists, and school teachers. By sharing our approach and practices, we want to promote the adoption of translingual values and guiding principles through the use of arts as a methodology for language learning and meaning-making. Instead of feeling intimidated by the complexity and difficulty of the concept of translanguaging, teachers and practitioners could adopt an arts-based pedagogy as the catalyst for creative practice that will help learners to explore their creative resources.

Writing as a Minecrafter: Exploring how Children Blur Worlds of Play in the Elementary English Language Arts Classroom

Background/ContextEducators have considered how Minecraft supports language and literacy practices in the game and in the spaces and circumstances immediately surrounding gameplay. However, it is still necessary to develop additional conceptualizations of how children and youth's online and offline worlds and experiences are blurred by and through the games. In this study, I take up this call and examine how the boundaries of the digital were blurred by one child as he wrote in response to a standardized writing prompt within his urban fourth-grade classroom.Purpose/Objective/Research Question/Focus of StudyThrough snapshots of Jairo's writing, I illuminate how he muddled the lines between his physical play experiences and those he had in the virtual world of Minecraft. In doing so, I argue that he carried over his personal interest as a fan of Minecraft into the writing curriculum through creative language play. As Jairo “borrowed” his physical play experiences in the virtual world of Minecraft to complete an assigned writing task, he exemplified how children blur playworlds of physical and digital play in the elementary ELA classroom.Research DesignDrawing on data generated in an 18-week case study, I examine how one child, Jairo, playfully incorporated his lived experiences in the virtual world of Minecraft into mandated writing tasks.Conclusions/RecommendationsMy examination of his writing is meant to challenge writing scholars, scholars of play, and those engaged in rethinking media's relation to literacy. I encourage a rethinking of what it means for adults to maintain clear lines of what is digital play and what is not. I suggest adults might have too heavy a hand in bringing play into classrooms. Children already have experiences with play—both physical and digital. We must cultivate a space for children to build on what was previously familiar to them by offering scaffolds to bridge these experiences between what we, as adults, understand as binaries. Children do not necessarily see distinctions between “reality” and play worlds, or between digital and physical play. For children, play worlds and digital worlds are perhaps simply worlds; it is we as adults who harbor a desire for clear boundaries.

Advertising as a platform for language game

The present study is devoted to the language game as a widespread advertising phenomenon. With reference to contextual analysis of language games in advertisements, the article considers the achievements of the main advertising goals (to attract potential consumers and influence their buying behavior) by virtue of various creative language means. The article discusses and analyzes different types of language games based on phonetics, lexical and grammatical means of the Russian language. Cases of language game with the use of onomatopoeia, homonyms and nonce words are emphasized. The specific features of the linguistic phenomenon in advertising are illustrated with appropriate examples. Reportedly, advertising makes possible the language game and, in certain cases, is an ideal environment for its implementation. Considering the language game as an integral part of the advertising discourse, the authors of the article draw conclusions about the similarity of the communicative goal in the language game and advertising. Apart from contributing to the theory of advertising from the standpoint of modern linguistics, and to the development of the language game theory, the results of the study explore creative possibilities of language, including in advertising.

Playful Practices: Reimagining Literacy Teacher Education through Game-Based Curriculum Design

The prevalence of high-stakes testing, scripted curricula, and accountability measures in schools discourages experimentation with curriculum. This article encourages curriculum design experimentation in teacher education by proposing playful practices, game-like activities for designing curriculum that draws on students’ out-of-school literacies. We explore the benefits and challenges of game-based curriculum design with preservice teachers (PSTs; N = 19) in two public university secondary English education courses and trace one PST’s take-up of the curriculum design moves through incorporation of these playful practices into her classroom. Data collection occurred across one academic year and included field and observation notes, written reflections, interview data, and artifacts. Findings show the potential for game-based curriculum design in literacy teacher education to (1) create an imaginative space between teacher and student, (2) encourage collaborative production, (3) connect PST university coursework to classroom practice, (4) support students’ creative language production, and (5) create playful social contexts for participatory learning. Challenges highlight the importance of attending to power dynamics in game play and design. Implications include how game-based pedagogical invitations in teacher education can help PSTs imagine new ways to organize classroom structures and literacy learning experiences that value an interplay of youth cultures and classroom curriculum.

The Art of Language—Re-read of Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice, a masterpiece by the famous British female writer Jane Austen in the 19th century, is also Jane Austen’s earliest novel, which took a year to complete. In Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen successfully created a new era of women-Elizabeth, starting with the arrogance and prejudice of the hero Darcy and the heroine Elizabeth. After several twists and turns, the hero and heroine finally became a beautiful couple. The Jane Austen was different from the British popular literary language creation model at the time. She was bold and innovative, using female delicate thinking, exaggerated irony, simple, lively and vivid yet charming literary language, and created a book about A masterpiece of life and marriage thinking. Therefore, this article will discuss Pride and Prejudice from the perspective of literary language, and at the same time help readers better understand the connotation and internal meaning.
