Formulation, Evaluation and Medicinal Properties of Medicated Herbal Cream Containing Extract of Tridax Procumbens

At present, herbal medicine has a great impact on human health and diseases herbal medicine plays an important role in general aspects such as economy and medicine. The use of this herbal medicine is increasing day by day due to its quality, efficacy and safety. The present study explored a novel formulation containing extracts of Tridax procumbens, Ficus religiosa, Azadirachta indica and Curcuma longa in cream form (O/W). The formulation was characterized by determining the pharmaceutical properties such as pH, appearance, viscosity, spreadability, etc. The chemical constituents such as carbohydrates, alkaloids, steroids, etc. were detected using identification assays. The cream formulation was designed using excipients such as stearyl alcohol, beeswax, sorbitol monooleate, methylparaben, propylparaben and liquid paraffin. Compared with the control drug, the herbal drug was found to be safer. While allergy medications are associated with some side effects, the formulation of cream is much better than other formulations in terms of absorption and penetration of the active ingredient in the tropics.

Preparation and Evaluation of Cream Containing Betel Leaf Extract for Removal of Cutaneous Warts

Abstract: Warts are common skin growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can appear on any part of the body but are most commonly found on the hands, feet, and genitals. Warts are usually harmless but can be unsightly or cause discomfort, especially if they are frequent friction or pressure. There are several types of warts, including common warts, plantar warts (on the soles of the feet), genital warts, and flat warts (often found on the face). Creams are semisolid dosage form containing one or more drugs substances dissolved or dispersed in a suitable base. They are emulsion of either W/O, O/W creams are uses for various purposes. Wart removal cream contains some synthetic substances as well as herbal ingredients like betel steam which is having antiviral activity against the human papilloma virus (HPV). Then calcium carbonate and sodium hydroxide slowly absorbed into the skin causing rupturing of the skin cells that contains the wart virus. To prepare wart removal cream sodium hydroxide and calcium carbonate along with the aqueous extract of betel leaf by maceration with the excipients such as stearic acid, glycerin, methyl paraben, distilled water are used. Finally, the cream is evaluated with various parameters such as physical and chemical properties like pH, viscosity, spreadability, texture. As this cream has clove oil which is used as an analgesic to avoid the irritational pain. The pH of the cream is supposed to be basic and around 12-12.5. During the evaluation the pH of the cream was found out to be 12.1. Cream was easily spreadable and it had a pleasant appearance.

Evaluating the Impact of a Cream Containing Horse Placental Extract on Eye Corner Wrinkles in Healthy Women: Single-Blind Comparative Study.

Placental extract has been mostly used in skin care for cosmetic purposes. However, the use of various placental extracts has been limited due to the lack of established and effective application methods. In this study, we investigated the antiwrinkle effect of a cream formulation-LNC wrinkle eye cream (LNC-EC)-containing horse placental extract as the main ingredient. A total of 24 healthy women, aged 37-54 years, with wrinkle grades 1-3, were treated with LNC-EC for 2 weeks. The cream was applied on one-half of the participants' faces, and the results were compared with the untreated half of the face. Visual inspection, using the wrinkle grade standard, showed that the area treated with LNC-EC had a significantly lower wrinkle grade than the untreated area when comparing before and after the application of LNC-EC. In addition, replica analysis showed a significant reduction in both the maximum wrinkle width and the number of wrinkles in the LNC-EC-treated area in comparison to the untreated area before and after the application. These results suggest that LNC-EC has an antiwrinkle effect on the corners of the eyes based on parameters like the maximum wrinkle width and the number of wrinkles. LNC-EC, with horse placental extract as its main ingredient, was shown to be effective in improving wrinkles at the eye corners, presumably due to a reduction in the maximum wrinkle width and the number of wrinkles. Interpretation of the results is limited because this study was conducted only in the intervention group. A randomized controlled trial with a placebo control group is necessary to verify the antiwrinkle effects of horse placental extract.

Formulation and Evaluation of a Herbal Facial Cream Containing Tulsi and Mentha Oil for Treatment of Conventional Acne Vulgaris Treatment

Herbal cream is a treatment that people use for treating different skin problems. Propionibacterium acne and Staphylococcus epidermis are two examples of the bacteria known to cause acne pus. In order to tackle this acne vulgaris etiologic factor, the current research focuses on creating and analyzing a herbal cream. The present recipe includes rose water, methylparaben, borax, bees wax, liquid paraffin, Tulsi extract, Mentha extract, Tridax Procumbens. To make the herbal cream, use the aqueous phase. We evaluated the pH, spread ability, stability, and in-vitro diffusion of the produced Cream. The presence of the active ingredient Tulsi was found to be matching the formulations color, foreign particles, etc. were examined. Following application, it was found that the Cream was simple to spread across a skin surface evenly and smoothly.

CFD Simulation on an Improvised Ice Cream Container

A temperature-sensitive product such as ice-cream may cause the industry to face several challenges throughout the production, storage, packaging, and distribution processes. With the purpose to improve the performance of an ice cream container that acts as cold storage during the delivery process, the integration of a tube-type phase change material (PCM) thermal storage system was studied. In this work, a Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) method was used to model and analysed eight designs of phase change thermal storage systems incorporated within the ice-cream container. The tube type PCM was modeled, with and without the conducting pins, aiming to maximise the heat exchange within the system. To obtain a proper design, parametric studies on the number of pins and its diameter were further analysed. For all simulations, the initial time for freezing simulation was set to 2℃, assuming the PCM was fully in a liquid state with the ice mass fraction was set to 0. With that, the PCM average temperature and the total mass fraction was observed and analysed. From the results, the ice mass fraction percentage of the systems was observed to increase with the increasing number of pins. Model with (the maximum) 40 pins has improved ice mass fraction for at least 67.58% when compared to the configuration without pin. Also, the average temperature of PCM for model with maximum pins, was observed to be 37.14% lower when compared to the configuration without pins and less pin numbers. Nevertheless, although the presence of pins has proven to enhance the heat exchange within the system, the percentage of ice formation was considered to be low and the average temperature was still as high as 0.66℃ after 12 hrs of freezing process. This indicating that a proper design of TES is inevitably needed, in order to maximise both heat exchanges and PCM storage ability within the system

1149-P: Health Literacy and Numeracy Based on The Newest Vital Sign Is Not Associated with Hemoglobin A1c in Caretakers or Youth with Type 1 Diabetes

Management of type 1 diabetes (T1D) requires the ability to perform, process, and understand the clinical importance of mathematical calculations to correctly dose insulin. This degree of comprehension is the backbone of health literacy and numeracy (HLN). The Newest Vital Sign (NVS) is a valid and reliable tool to assess HLN in a clinic setting. Few studies have evaluated the NVS in youth living with T1D and its relationship to glycemic control. We hypothesized lower HLN in caretakers and patients would be associated with higher HbA1c among youth with T1D. A cross sectional study was conducted to assess the degree of HLN in caretakers (for patient ages 6-18 years) and adolescent patients (ages 13-18 years) living with T1D. The NVS consists of 6 questions based on a fictitious nutrition label from an ice cream container. Total scores reflect probable level of HLN (0-1 likely limited; 2-3 possibly limited; 4-6 adequate literacy). Data from 44 adult caretakers and 23 patients living with T1D was collected. Mean±SD HbA1c for youth was 8.0±1.8% (range 5.4-12.8%). Of the 44 caretakers, 42 (95.5%) scored 4-6, indicating adequate HLN, and 0 caretakers scored 0-1 points. Of 23 adolescent patients with T1D, 16 (69.5%) had adequate HLN, with 5 (21.7%) scoring 2-3, and 1 (4.3%) scoring only 1 point: high likelihood of low HLN. Youths’ HLN scores increased with age with the lowest HLN score of 1 in a patient that was 13.08 years. Mean age of those scoring 2-3 was 15.3 years and those scoring >4 was 16.5 years. HbA1c levels did not correlate with HLN scores in either caretakers or patients. In caretakers of youth living with T1D, the NVS was unable to capture variations in HLN, possibly because this tool is based on a nutrition label which underlies all diabetes education. Given the importance of HLN in diabetes care, future work is needed to identify the best tool to assess HLN in those providing and receiving care for T1D. Disclosure L.Sancrainte: None. Effectiveness of a Skin Care Program With a Cream Containing Ceramide C and a Personalized Training for Secondary Prevention of Hand Contact Dermatitis.

Background/Objectives: The aim of our study was to investigate the effectiveness of personalized training on skin protection associated with the regular use of ceramide-containing cream (CC) versus other creams (OC) for improving hand contact dermatitis. Methods: We performed a double-center randomized trial that enrolled workers with hand dermatitis. All workers received personalized training. The intervention was 3 times per day application of the study emollient. The control arm used an emollient of choice without ceramide, as needed. The primary outcome was improvement in hand dermatitis at 1 and 3 months of follow-up. Results: In total, 102 patients with hand dermatitis were enrolled in this study. Improvement in dermatitis was found in 40%, 52.5%, 50%, and 63% of OC and CC, at the first and second follow-ups, respectively. The use of CC was significantly associated with an improvement in dermatitis (odds ratios 2.6; 95% confidence intervals 1.30-5.2), analyzed using generalized equation estimation during the follow-up. Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that an educational personalized intervention could improve the signs and symptoms in patients with hand dermatitis, and the use of a CC resulted in a significantly better outcome during the 3 months of follow-up.

Efficacy and Safety of Cream Containing Dipotassium Glycyrrhizinate, Vaccinium myrtillius, Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside, and Tamarindus indica Compared with Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream in Eczema and Psoriasis

Background: Topical corticosteroids are the main treatment in eczema and psoriasis. However, long-term use of corticosteroids causes unwanted adverse effects. Dipotassium glycyrrhizinate (DPG) HERB cream, containing DPG, Vaccinium myrtillius, epigallocatechin gallatyl glucoside, and Tamarindus indica, has an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect by inhibiting histamine release and proinflammatory cytokine production so a natural herbal cream is required for alternative treatment. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of DPG-HERB. Materials and Methods: The present study was a right-left, double-blinded, randomized clinical trial in participants with eczema or plaque psoriasis on both sides of the body. DPG-HERB was applied to the lesion on one side of the body, while 0.1% triamcinolone acetonide (TA) cream was applied to the lesion on the other side, twice daily for four weeks. Disease severity as eczema area and severity index (EASI) in eczema, and psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) in psoriasis, skin biophysics as corneometry and transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and clinical assessments as erythema, scale or excoriation, and lichenification or thickness, were evaluated at baseline, week 2 and week 4 after treatment. The dermatology life quality index (DLQI) was performed at baseline and week 4. Adverse effects were recorded during each visit. Results: The evaluation of the 75 patients with 150 lesions in the present study, DPG-HERB and TA cream showed significant improvement in all the evaluated characteristics of eczema (p<0.05), however, in psoriasis, both creams showed significant improvement in skin biophysics, PASI, scale, and thickness (p<0.05), but DPG-HERB was less effective in decreasing erythema (DPG-HERB, p=0.31 and TA, p<0.05) and less improving TEWL compared with 0.1% TA cream (DPG-HERB, p=0.051 and TA, p<0.05). No side effects in the short-term period were reported in either group. Conclusion: DPG-HERB is safe and efficacious in eczema, but less effective in psoriasis comparing to TA cream. Formulation of Moisturizing Cream Containing Collagen and Argan Oil: An in vivo Evaluation

Introduction: Natural oils, including argan oil, are used to moisturize the skin. Collagen is one of the body's proteins that plays an important role in the structure of the skin. Therefore, in this study, the moisturizing effect of creams containing collagen and argan oil was studied. Method: Using Design Expert statistical software, 13 formulations were designed and synthesized. They were evaluated for spreadability and viscosity, and the optimized formulation was selected. The formulations underwent physicochemical control experiments, such as uniformity of products, thermal stress, centrifugal force resistance, and pH measurements. The moisturizing effect was investigated with in-vitro and in-vivo studies. Results: Cream containing 5% collagen and 5% argan oil was selected as the optimal formulation. The blocking factor of the cream containing collagen and argan oil was higher than the negative control 48 h after the study (P<0.05). The amount of hydration of the cream containing collagen and argan oil on the skin of the hand was higher than the negative control 5 h after the study (P<0.05). The optimal formulation showed good stability against physicochemical control experiments. Conclusion: Moisturizing cream containing collagen and argan oil had a more moisturizing effect than cream without collagen and argan oil and increased skin hydration

Development of Liquid Crystal Cream Containing Germinated Brown Rice

Herbal cosmetics are gaining popularity over chemicals for beauty products. However, natural products are often prone to deterioration. Therefore, stability and compatibility testing are the main examinations of the safety and reliability of herbal cosmetics. Liquid crystal structures provide better application performances than conventional emulsion systems in terms of stability, controlled release, and moisturizing. Rice is the most profitable crop in Thailand, and the skin healing benefits of rice have been reported. Thus, the current study aimed to develop a liquid crystal cream containing germinated brown rice extract (GBR) or biological cosmetic active ingredients, to study its efficacy on hydration effects and moisturizer, to identify the active ingredient content, such as gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), phenolic content, and to evaluate the physical properties and stability of the product. Results revealed that GBR contained GABA and a total phenolic content of 273.28 mg GABA/100 g of rice and 2.58 mg GAE/100 g of rice, respectively. The GBR-liquid crystal cream had good stability and moisturizing effect. The developed products were statistically significantly in hydrating more than a counter brand product. The product that increased moisture the most was the GBR-liquid crystal cream. The GBR-liquid crystal cream provided a high-efficiency moisturizing effect and reliability enabling it to be a premium commercial product shortly.

Novel Fusidic Acid Cream Containing Metal Ions and Natural Products against Multidrug-Resistant Bacteria

Background: Drug design and development to overcome antimicrobial resistance continues to be an area of research due to the evolution of microbial resistance mechanisms and the necessity for new treatments. Natural products have been used since the dawn of medicine to heal skin infections. The antimicrobial properties of fusidic acid, zinc sulfate, and copper sulfate have been studied and are well known. Furthermore, these compounds have different mechanisms of action in targeting microorganisms, either by inhibiting protein synthesis or bacterial cell walls. Therefore, their combination is expected to have synergistic activity in killing bacteria. However, the synergistic antimicrobial activity has not been evaluated in a cream formulation. Therefore, the objectives of this in vitro study were to develop and evaluate the synergistic efficacy of fusidic acid in combinations with natural products, including oleuropein, thyme oil, zinc sulfate, and copper sulfate, as a cream to eradicate fusidic-acid-resistant microorganisms in skin infections. Methods: Three different cream formulations were developed, compared, and labeled F1, F2, and F3. The compounds were studied for their antibacterial activity. In addition, the stability of the cream was investigated at 25 °C and 40 °C in plastic jars over three months. Results: The F2 formula has adequate physicochemical properties. Furthermore, it displays stable and better results than the marketed trade product and has potential inhibition zones (ZOI). Interestingly, considerable numbers (9.5%) of fusidic-acid-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (FRSA) isolates possessed a high resistance pattern with MIC ≥ 128 μg/mL. In contrast, most tested FRSA isolates (90.5%) had a low resistance pattern with MIC ≤ 8 μg/mL. Conclusion: In conclusion, the F2 cream made with fusidic acid, oleuropein, thyme oil, zinc sulfate, and copper sulfate in the right amounts has stable physical and chemical properties and has potential against FRSA as an antimicrobial agent.

Coupling of Physical and Chromatographic Separation for Analyzing Cream Containing Miconazole, Mometasone Furoate and Gentamicin Sulphate.

High-performance liquid chromatographic method was developed, validated and applied for miconazole, mometasone and gentamicin in Momenta® cream. Physical separation was applied using two extraction procedures due to different solubility of the three components. First, a methanolic extract of the cream contained miconazole and mometasone was chromatographed on ODS-3 Inertsil C18 column (150 × 4.6, 5μm) using acetonitrile: water (80:20, v/v) as a mobile phase, flow rate 1.5mL·min-1, scanned at 230nm, showing tR 2.817 and 6.808min for mometasone and miconazole, respectively. Second, an aqueous extract of the cream containing gentamicin was derivatized with o-phthalaldehyde in order to enhance the gentamicin UV detection and subjected to ion pairing chromatography on Inertsil ODS-3 C18 column (150 × 4.6, 5μm), using methanol: 0.025M heptane sulphonic acid: glacial acetic acid (75:20:5, by volume) as a mobile phase, flow rate 0.8mL·min-1, scanned at 330nm where the three active gentamicin isomers were separated at tR 11.7, 15.6 and 18.3min. Suitability of this method for quantitative estimation of the drugs was proved by validation according to ICH guidelines. The method was selective, precise and accurate so could be used for analysis of cream formulation in QC labs.

Management of the post-procedural period in aesthetic medicine – prevention of complications and reduction of the rehabilitation period

The post-treatment period plays a great role in the prevention of complications and shortens the rehabilitation time. The article provides up-to-date international statistics on the number of cosmetic procedures performed annually according to the International Society for Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery (ISAPS). A successful clinical experience of using a repair cream con taining oat plantlets extract, l-ALA-l-GLU dipeptide and hyaluronic acid as post-procedure care on the example of 2 patients is described. In the first case, a 32-year-old patient presented with postacne scars underwent a fractional radiofrequency ablation procedure followed by application of a cream with oat plantlets extract on the left side of the face, and a cream with dexpanthenol on the right side for 10 days. 5 minutes after application on the left side, the patient noted a pronounced reduction in burning, tingling, itching and soreness sensation. The entire post-treatment period also was faster and more comfortable on the side of the face, where the cream with oat plantlets extract was applied and ended successfully by the 8th day after the procedure. On the comparison side, the full rehabilitation process took 10 days. In the second case, a 27-year-old patient with acne, after a chemical peeling procedure, as a final remedy and further post-procedure care used the cream with oat plantlets extract on one side of the face, and a cream recommended by the manufacturer of peeling systems on the other side. When re-examined after 7 days, there was also a faster regression of inflammatory elements, post-procedural erythema and edema, dryness and discomfort after peeling were less pronounced on the side of the face where the cream with oat plantlets extract was applied. Repair cream containing oat plantlets extract, l-ALA-l-GLU dipeptide, and hyaluronic acid showed excellent efficacy and tolerability, had synergistic efficacy (moisturizing, healing, preventing aesthetic defects). The authors consider to recommend it as a mean of post-procedural rehabilitation.

Development of a Formulation of Vanishing Cream Containing Wheat Germ Oil with Safe Preservation, and Measurement of Antioxidants in the Cream by a Rapid Method

Introduction: Wheat germ is a by-product of the wheat mill and contains 10 to 15% of the oil. The use of wheat germ oil in cosmetics is because this oil contains ceramide that prevents skin aging and can preserve the skin.
 Material and Methods: A vanishing oil in water (O/W) cream based on wheat germ oil was made and formulated. The antioxidants of the cream were extracted, and the best extraction conditions were obtained by the Taguchi method. Four factors of temperature, time, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and round per minute (RPM) were investigated at three levels. To maintain consumer health, carcinogenic preservatives such as parabens were removed from the formulation, and a new composition of methylpropanediol, capryl glycol, and phenylpropanoldiol (OMP) was used in the formulation. At microbial testing, two standard strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were selected as representative of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The stability of the antioxidants of wheat germ oil in the cream structure was studied.
 Results: In the extraction of the antioxidants from the cream structure, the highest impact was related to the DPPH factor (78%) and temperature (14%), respectively. A growth inhibition zone of 24mm diameter was observed for S. aureus and 16mm for P. aeruginosa. The wheat germ oil cream was completely stable at 37°C after 30 days.
 Conclusion: A vanishing herbal cream was formulated base on OMP composition with a very good antimicrobial activity. A rapid extraction and measurement method of the cream antioxidants was established and optimized based on DPPH.

Effect of Topical Sports Cream Containing Cymbopogon schoenanthus on Acute Recovery Markers Following Exercise-Induced Muscle Fatigue in Competitive Athletes: A Pilot Study

Background: Muscle fatigue following high-intensity or repetitive training causes reduced muscle strength, restriction of blood flow, and increased muscle pain. The application of topical sports cream (TSC) as a recovery method has recently gained attention. However, few studies have investigated the effects of topical sports cream containing Cymbopogon schoenanthus (CS) on acute recovery markers. This study aimed to examine the effects of the acute application of a TSC containing CS after exercise-induced muscle fatigue on acute recovery markers. Methods: Ten taekwondo athletes (male: 5, female: 5) participated in this study. In a crossover design with 2-week intervals, participants were randomly assigned to two clinical trial groups: TSC and placebo cream (PC). Isokinetic dynamometers were used to create exercise-induced muscle fatigue, and the subjects repeatedly performed external and internal shoulder rotations. TSC containing CS was applied to the shoulder muscles of the subjects after the exercise. Maximum voluntary isometric contraction, muscle pain, blood flow, and skin temperature were measured before, during, immediately after, 30 min after, and 60 min after exercise. Results: A significant interaction effect was found in blood flow between time and group (p = 0.032, ηp2 = 0.157). However, there was no statistically significant interaction effect between time and group for maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC), muscle pain, and skin temperature (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Acute application of TSC containing CS is effective in increasing blood flow during the recovery period following exercise-induced muscle fatigue.
