Vinylketene: V. Abfangreaktionen von vinylketen-zwischenstufen-hydrochinon- versus lactonbildung

Pentacarbonylcarbene complexes of chromium react with 1-alkynols to give hydroquinone and/or vinyl lactone derivatives. Vinylketenes are found to be common intermediates formed by regioselective coupling of alkyne, carbene and carbon monoxide components. Their ring closure is controlled by the carbene ligand and the length of the alkyne chain.
