A Study on the Impact of Digital Transformation on the Corporate Innovation Performance

Over the past few years, the digital economy has become the mainstream of the business world, and the digital transformation path in the manufacturing industry has become the prevailing theme. Many results of studies also indicate that manufacturing innovative models and competitive advantages are dimensions that should not be overlooked during the digital era nowadays. Digital transformation fundamentally changes the way companies operate and interact with customers, with digitalization driving product, procedure, and technology innovation across factories. Digital transformation is no more an alternative to traditional manufacturing, but a necessity to remain relevant and competitive within the marketplace. Building on these backgrounds, this study is a qualitative literature review, implying that the data will be analyzed and explained utilizing information and documentation acquired from a variety of existing literature. To recognize the influences of digital transformation on manufacturing business performance, this research will review and summarise the relevant literature on digital transformation, competitive advantage, and innovation performance of firms, describing interactions among the three and exposing shortcomings of past literature. Therefore, this study will provide companies with valuable insights that help them stay relevant and competitive in this digital age of digitalization.

Supply chain concentration, industry concentration and enterprise innovation performance

This paper selects Chinese A-share-listed manufacturing enterprises as a sample from 2012–2022 to empirically analyse the relationship between supply chain concentration and corporate innovation performance. It is found that there is a significant negative correlation between supplier concentration and corporate innovation and a significant positive correlation between customer concentration and corporate innovation; industry concentration enhances the positive impact of customer concentration on corporate innovation performance; compared with state-owned enterprises, the relationship between supply chain concentration and corporate innovation performance is more significant in private enterprises.

THE IMPACT OF CORPORATE SOCIAL NETWORK ON INNOVATION PERFORMANCE - THE CHAIN MEDIATION EFFECT BASED ON KNOWLEDGE ACQUISITION AND ABSORPTIVE CAPACITY

Innovation is the lifeblood and inexhaustible driving force behind the development of an enterprise. With the continuous improvement of scientific and technological levels, the acceleration of technological change, and the changes in market demand, the complexity and uncertainty of innovation are increasing day by day. Enterprises have to acquire knowledge from outside, to obtain new impetus for enterprise development. The rich knowledge resources contained in corporate social networks provide a foundation for future innovation and development. This article takes Chinese enterprises as the research object and uses open innovation theory, social network theory, and knowledge management theory to construct a conceptual model of "social network-knowledge acquisition-absorptive capacity-innovation performance." Through empirical analysis of 549 valid questionnaires, it was found that networks do not all have a positive effect on enterprise innovation performance. This study shows that network size, network centrality, and network heterogeneity have a positive effect on innovation performance. The effect of network relationship strength on innovation performance is not significant. Knowledge acquisition and absorptive capacity play an important role in society. Network size, network centrality, and network heterogeneity have a chain-mediating role in their impact on corporate innovation performance.

Government R&D Subsidies and Firms' Innovation Performance: Empirical Evidence Based on Listed Companies in the New Energy Industry

At present, China is actively changing the original energy consumption structure, reducing the use of traditional fossil energy and vigorously promoting the green development of new energy. To stimulate technological innovation and promote economic growth is the direction and principle of the current industrial policy, and to increase the investment of R&D funds and enhance the independent innovation ability is the way to accelerate the construction of China's core competitive strength, so it is necessary to scientifically assess the impact of government R&D subsidies on the innovation performance of enterprises. The government's investment of R&D funds also plays an important role in the new energy industry, which is characterized by technological innovation, government R&D funding also plays an important role in the new energy industry characterized by technological innovation. In this paper, we select the panel data of listed companies in the new energy industry from 2006 to 2020 as the research object to empirically analyze the relationship between government R&D subsidies and corporate innovation performance. Based on the results of benchmark regression in this paper, the overall results show that government R&D subsidies are conducive to the improvement of corporate innovation performance in the new energy industry. This study aims to explore the effect of government R&D subsidies on enterprise innovation performance and put forward feasible suggestions to understand the role of government subsidies in the process of enterprise R&D and innovation activities from a deeper perspective.

The Mechanism of International Entrepreneurship to Improve the Innovation Performance of Enterprises: Based on the Perspective of Social Network

In order to avoid the negative impact of external disadvantages and changing international business environments, enterprises have an urgent need to establish an effective social network, seek improvement in innovation performance, and stabilize their position in the international market. This paper conducts an exploratory single case study on the Midea Group, investigates the mechanism of international entrepreneurship to improve enterprise innovation performance based on the formation of multiple social networks, including government network, business network, and technological network, and discovers that in the process of international entrepreneurship, three-dimensional social networks contribute to resource conversion, research and development capability, market share, and other factors that boost corporate innovation performance. This research helps to understand the key elements in the process of international entrepreneurship, as well as how to build a close social network with stakeholders, rationally allocate and share various resources, and improve the international business environment and innovation performance of enterprises.

The Impact of ESG Performance on Innovation Research

High-quality economic and social development has become the main theme of the current era, and the promotion of corporate ESG development is of great significance to the implementation of the new development concept of "innovation, harmony, greenness, openness and sharing". This paper takes 3,784 listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen A-shares from 2011 to 2021 as research samples, and conducts research on ESG performance and corporate innovation with the help of Stata17.0 software, based on which it further examines the roles of financing constraints, the proportion of QFII, and the characteristics of senior executives in this influence path. The study finds that: (1) ESG performance has a significant role in promoting corporate innovation; (2) ESG performance can alleviate financing constraints and increase the QFII ratio, thus enhancing corporate innovation; (3) executives with academic background and overseas study background can positively regulate the relationship between ESG performance and corporate innovation. (4) Firms in the eastern and central regions can promote R&D investment by improving ESG performance, and firms in the central region can promote corporate innovation performance more significantly by improving ESG performance. (5) Firms in the national region are able to promote innovation output by improving ESG performance, but state-owned enterprises are unable to improve R&D investment through ESG performance. The findings provide some empirical basis for further promoting corporate strategy development and improving corporate governance mechanisms.

Study of the Role of Financialization in the Relationship Between Corporate Social Responsibility and Research and Development Investment

Under the social environment of high-quality development and improvement of corporate innovation performance, the purpose of this study is to explore the internal mechanism of corporate social responsibility's impact on research and development investment, in order to find an effective way to promote research and development investment. Corporate social responsibility can not only significantly increase research and development investment, but also promote financialization, which plays an intermediary role with masking effect in the relationship between corporate social responsibility and research and development investment. Therefore, the government should encourage enterprises to fulfill their social responsibilities, establish a correct concept of responsibility, and play a role in promoting research and development investment. At the same time, it is also necessary to pay attention to the reputation insurance effect formed by corporate social responsibility, strengthen the strict supervision of listed companies' social responsibility, improve the quality of social responsibility information disclosure, and improve the quality of external supervision and internal control. Preventing contribution of corporate social responsibility to research and development investment from being partially offset and overshadowed by financialization.

Executive incentives, team stability and corporate innovation performance

To investigate the correlation between executive incentives, team stability, and corporate innovation performance, this study employed empirical analysis of firms listed in China. The results indicate that there is a significant and positive correlation between executive incentives and the technological innovation performance of corporations; the influence of executive incentives on corporate innovation is partially mediated by team stability; and the effects of different incentive methods vary depending on the type of patent in question.

Does knowledge of digital technology affect corporate innovation? Evidence from CEOs with digital technology backgrounds in China

ABSTRACT Global economies are increasingly focusing on digital technology to break through the conventional innovation development pattern. This study examines the degree to which CEOs with digital technology backgrounds affect corporate innovation. In a broader sense, it investigates the significance of digital technology in the innovation transformation of global economies. We find that CEOs with digital technology backgrounds significantly enhance corporate innovation performance. Mechanistic tests indicate that CEOs with digital technology backgrounds promote corporate innovation performance through a stronger willingness for digital transformation, higher level of internal control management and focus on fostering a stronger culture of collaboration compared to CEOs without digital technology backgrounds. Additionally, CEOs with digital technology backgrounds are better at promoting corporate innovation within state-owned enterprises and enterprises that do not receive industrial policy support. Further analysis suggests that CEOs have a greater impact on corporate innovation when the macroeconomic environment is compatible with their personal traits. Therefore, for companies competing in the field of digital technology, talent construction is vital to gaining a competitive advantage.

Does green credit policy affect corporate innovation performance?-A quasi-natural experiment based on Green Credit Guidelines.

For urgent need to the transition to sustainable development, it is of great significance to explore the driving role of green credit policies in innovation performance. This study uses a sample of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2004 to 2019 and constructs a quasi-natural experiment based on the Green Credit Guidelines issued by the China Banking Regulatory Commission in 2012. PSM-DID method is employed to examine the innovation impact of green credit policies in both green credit-restricted and non-restricted industries, thereby exploring the its mechanism of influence on firm innovation performance. The results show that after the implementation of Guidelines, it promotes a company's innovation output, significantly enhances its innovation performance, especially in terms of quantity-based incentives. However, the incentive effect on quality-based incentives is relatively limited. Secondly, by increasing the level of risk-taking within the enterprise and strengthening external environmental regulations, the green credit policy can further enhance its promotion effect on corporate innovation performance. Finally, the promotion effect of green credit policies is more significant for state-owned enterprises and large-scale enterprises. The research results help to break through the bottleneck of corporate innovation with the coordination of environmental protection and economy, which further improve the sustainability of economic development.

Knowledge heterogeneity and corporate innovation performance: The mediating influence of task conflict and relationship conflict.

Innovation has emerged as a crucial factor in the sustenance and growth of enterprises. Nonetheless, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) confront numerous challenges in their pursuit of innovation, owing to constraints in capital, expertise, and knowledge resources. Drawing on the resource-based theory and the input-process-output (IPO) model, this study devises a mechanism model to assess the impact of knowledge heterogeneity and innovation performance on small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises in Guizhou Province, China. The objective is to offer recommendations for the advancement and innovation of enterprises with relative knowledge resource deficiencies. A total of 324 valid questionnaires were gathered, and the acquired data were analyzed employing SPSS 23.0 and Amos 26.0. The findings reveal that knowledge heterogeneity exerts a significantly positive influence on innovation performance. Task conflict and relationship conflict serve as partial mediators in the effects of knowledge heterogeneity on innovation performance. By capitalizing on the heterogeneity of internal and external knowledge, enterprises can effectively enhance their innovation outcomes. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that knowledge sharing possesses a moderating effect on the impact of knowledge heterogeneity on task conflict, relationship conflict, and innovation performance. In a conducive sharing environment, the ultimate effect of knowledge heterogeneity on innovation is subject to alteration.

Innovating from university–industry collaboration: the mediating role of intellectual capital

PurposeUniversity–industry (UI) collaboration is essential for knowledge and technology exchange between higher education institutions and industries, enabling enterprises to accelerate innovation. However, few studies have investigated the collaborative innovation mechanism through which UI collaboration can enhance the accumulation of firms' intellectual capital (IC) and how this, in turn, affects their innovation-driven development.Design/methodology/approachDrawing from the knowledge management and collaborative innovation theory, this research proposes a theoretical framework of the inter-organization relationship between enterprises and universities to investigate the influence mechanism of UI collaboration, including academic engagement and commercialization, on corporate performance as well as the mediating role of IC by employing survey that covers 177 UI collaborations.FindingsEmpirical results show that human capital and relational capital fully mediate the relationship between academic engagement UI collaboration and corporate economic performance, while human capital partially mediates the relationship between commercialization UI collaboration and corporate economic performance. Additionally, structural capital and relational capital partially mediate the relationship between academic engagement and corporate innovation performance, while structural capital fully mediates the relationship between commercialization and corporate innovation performance.Originality/valueThis study empirically investigates how academic engagement and commercialization impact corporate performance (i.e. innovation dimension or economic dimension). It uncovers this relationship's underlying mechanism by documenting the IC's mediating impact.

Digital transformation and income inequality within enterprises – Evidence from listed companies in China

This study examines the influence of digital transformation on internal income inequality. The findings suggest that enterprise digital transformation has a discernible impact on reducing income inequality between managerial staff and ordinary employees. However, it also leads to an increase in income inequality between high-skilled and low-skilled employees. Mechanism tests reveal that enterprise digital transformation affects income inequality within firms by amplifying investments in research and development (R&D). Furthermore, during corporate digital transformation, a narrower compensation gap between the management and ordinary employees, as well as a wider compensation gap between high-skilled and low-skilled employees, significantly enhance corporate innovation performance.

The crowding‐out effects of innovation information disclosure on peers' innovation: Evidence from innovation‐driven M&As in China

AbstractThis study investigates the impact of rivals' announcements of innovation‐driven mergers and acquisitions (M&As) on focal firms' ex‐post corporate innovation performance. Exploiting a hand‐collected dataset of Chinese listed firms from 2011 to 2018, we find that focal firms file fewer patents after rivals' announcements of innovation‐driven M&As. Further analyses show that focal firms become more conservative and hold more cash when rivals intend to obtain innovation resources through M&As. We find that such crowding‐out effects are more pronounced for focal firms that are more financially constrained, those facing higher competition, those whose rivals are industry leaders, and those operating in traditional industries.

Managerial ability, managerial risk taking and innovation performance

This study examines the effects of managerial risk-taking on corporate innovation performance. Using the sample of China's A-share listed companies from 2015 to 2020, we find strong evidence that managerial risk-taking has a positive effect on corporate innovation performance which relies on the managerial ability. Further, our results show that management personal risk-taking improves their ability and firm level risk-taking improves innovation performance only if it meets with high managerial ability. In this paper we provide new evidence that overly aggressive managerial personal risk tolerance may hinder managerial ability. In addition, we find that managerial ability and risk tolerance of enterprise may work together to promote corporate innovation performance.

How does green finance affect the innovation performance of enterprises? Evidence from China.

"green" + "innovation" has become a new concept of development. The integration of the two can bring win-win for the environment and economy. This paper selects the annual data of 14309 A-share companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchange from 2012 to 2020 as the research sample. And it uses the two-way fixed effect model to empirically test the impact of green finance on enterprise innovation performance. The study found that the development of green finance can promote the improvement of enterprise innovation performance. The analysis of influence mechanism shows that the development of green finance can reduce the financing constraints of enterprises, and then improve the innovation performance of enterprises; the development of green finance can increase the R&D investment of enterprises, and then improve the innovation performance of enterprises; green finance development can increase corporate investment in environmental protection, which in turn can improve corporate innovation performance. The results of heterogeneity test analysis show that compared with the western region, private enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises, and high energy consumption and high pollution enterprises, the development of green finance in the central and eastern regions, state-owned enterprises, large enterprises, and non double high enterprises has more obvious role in promoting enterprise innovation performance. Therefore, the government should issue relevant policies and actively promote green finance policies that can help improve environmental and economic issues.

Party Organization Participation in Governance, Executive On-the-job Spending, and Corporate Innovation Performance

The organic embedding of party organizations in the corporate governance system through two-way entry and cross-appointment is where the institutional strength of Chinese enterprises lies and is a crucial element of corporate governance modernization. To clarify the specific impact of party organization participation in governance on the transformation of technological achievements, the article examines the impact of party organization participation in governance on the innovation level of enterprises and its mechanism of action based on the data of A-share listed companies in China from 2013 to 2021. This study found that: (1) the decision-making of managers with the attributes of "economic man" and "political man" has a positive effect on corporate innovation; (2) the on-the-job consumption of executives inhibits the driving effect of party organization participation in governance on innovation; (3) the effect of party organization participation in governance on innovation level is more evident in low media attention and non-high-tech enterprises. The findings enrich the study of party organization participation in governance and provide a theoretical basis and empirical reference for the transformation of enterprises to achieve high-quality development.

디지털 전환이 운전면허학원의 혁신 성과에 미치는 영향: 조직 민첩성의 매개 역할

In the context of the COVID-19 epidemic, the accelerated promotion and application of digital technology is gradually becoming an important factor affecting the success or failure of enterprises. There is a greater need for companies to understand the process elements that influence innovation performance. A total of 250 questionnaires were distributed through the empirical study, and 211 valid questionnaires were obtained. The impact mechanisms between digital transformation, organizational agility and innovation performance are discussed through data analysis using SPSS 21.0 and AMOSS 24.0 software. The results show that having a higher level of digitalization in the driving school industry does not directly have a significant impact on the improvement of the level of innovation performance. The higher the degree of digital transformation, the higher the level of organizational agility; and organizational agility significantly affects the innovation performance of the company. And market agility and operational alignment agility have a partially mediating role in digital transformation and corporate innovation performance. This study reaffirms the importance of the driving school industry incorporating digital transformation into its investment strategy.

The impacts of tenure diversity on boardroom and corporate carbon emission performance: Exploring from the moderating role of corporate innovation

AbstractThis paper examines the relationship between tenure diversity, corporate innovation, and carbon emission performance in developing countries, with a particular focus on the interaction model of corporate innovation in the nexus. The study is conducted in a unique setting of Indonesian firms with a high level of tenure diversity and carbon performance, excluding the financial industry from 2015 to 2021 and covering 1466 firm‐year observations. The study confirms that tenure diversity in the boardroom is a significant driver in reducing carbon emissions, as it has the potential to lower emissions during production cycles. However, the results suggest that there may be a poor decline in emissions when firms are too diverse. The authors' findings are robust and consistent over several robustness checks and endogeneity tests. This study is the first to focus on a quantitative measurement of carbon emission performance based on the Global Reporting Initiative in developing countries.

Innovation Performance and Technical Innovation of Chinese Textile and Clothing Enterprises

In recent years, as the cycle of changing consumer demand has become shorter and shorter as well as the gradual disappearance of China's demographic dividend, it has led to more difficulties in the development of China's textile and clothing industry. Technological innovation is the power source of enterprise growth. Firstly, this paper analyses the basic situation of China's textile and clothing industry using panel data of A-share listed companies in the textile and garment industry in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2005 to 2019. Secondly, the empirical study concludes that technological diversification positively affects corporate innovation performance; finally, suggestions are made to address the issues that need to be improved and addressed in China's textile and apparel industry.
