Reviewed by: The Book of Fairies Tia Batterson Beatrice Phillpotts . The Book of Fairies. New York: Ballantine Books, 1978. This book (The Book of Fairies) has an appearance and arrangement similar to the first three titles (above), with an introduction followed by the illustrations. The introduction here is more extensive, discussing the history and development of fairy painting, the artists and their techniques, and the decline of the art. A three-page listing of the prints with captions preceeds the section of illustrations. Many of the prints deal with Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream and The Tempest. The book seems designed primarily for adult interest. The prints are lovely, the color very good, and the selection interesting.
