Peningkatan Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis Peserta Didik Melalui Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah (PBL) dengan Media Audiovisual pada Materi Kemampuan dan Keterbatasanku di SMP Santo Andreas Jakarta Barat

This study aims to enhance the critical thinking skills of students at SMP Santo Andreas in West Jakarta through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model combined with audiovisual media, specifically in the subject matter “My Abilities and Limitations.” This approach prioritizes active interaction and real-world problem-solving, which is expected to increase student engagement in the learning process. The integration of audiovisual media aims to simplify the understanding of complex concepts, thereby enriching the overall learning experience. The research also identifies that the low critical thinking abilities of students are a result of less effective conventional teaching methods. By exploring the synergy between PBL and audiovisual media, this study makes a significant scientific contribution. The findings indicate that the application of this method positively and significantly impacts the enhancement of students' critical thinking skills. Therefore, this research recommends the use of PBL and audiovisual media as innovative alternatives in the learning process, particularly within the context of Catholic religious education.

Inquiry-Based Instruction in Science among Grade 8 Students in Rizal National High School, Surigao City Division

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of inquiry-based instruction compared to a conventional approach in enhancing science learning among Grade 8 students. A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving 76 students from Rizal National High School, Surigao City Division, who were divided into control (conventional instruction) and experimental (inquiry-based instruction) groups. The DepEd Caraga Region Sukdanan standard test was utilized to measure academic performance in science before and after the intervention. Data analysis, using weighted mean, standard deviation, t-test, and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), revealed significant improvements in both groups. However, the experimental group, exposed to inquiry-based instruction, exhibited a more pronounced increase in scores (pre-test mean: 15.55 to post-test mean: 32.82) compared to the control group (pre-test mean: 15.32 to post-test mean: 22.18). Both t-tests and ANCOVA confirmed the statistical significance of these gains (p < 0.05), with the inquiry-based approach demonstrating a particularly strong impact on student learning outcomes. The findings underscore the potential of inquiry-based instruction as a valuable pedagogical tool for promoting science learning. This approach, which emphasizes student-centered exploration and discovery, appears to foster a deeper understanding of scientific concepts compared to traditional methods. The study suggests that integrating inquiry-based strategies into science curricula can significantly enhance student achievement and engagement.

Problematika Metode Pengajaran dalam Pendidikan Islam Modern

Teaching methods play an important role in achieving educational goals, including in modern Islamic education. However, in practice, there are a number of problems faced by educators. With a literature study approach, this paper aims to identify and analyze various challenges that arise in the application of teaching methods in modern Islamic education, such as the gap between the curriculum and social reality, the dominance of conventional teaching methods that are less interactive, and the limited use of technology. The influence of globalization and technological developments also affect student learning patterns and pose new challenges in maintaining Islamic identity and values. To overcome these problems, innovation is needed in teaching methods, integration of technology in learning, alignment of the curriculum with the needs of the times, and improvement of the quality of educators. Thus, modern Islamic education can be more relevant and effective in forming a generation of Muslims who are noble, intelligent, and able to compete in the global era.

Peningkatan Hasil Belajar Pendidikan Agama Katolik Melalui Model Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah pada Materi Konsekuensi Pewartaan Yesus di Kelas VIII SMP Regina Pacis Surakarta

This research aims to improve the learning outcomes of grade VIII students in Catholic Religious Education on the material Consequences of the Proclamation of Jesus at Regina Pacis Junior High School Surakarta by applying the Problem-Based Learning model. Student learning outcomes in this material show low results due to conventional teaching methods. This Classroom Action Research (PTK) is carried out in two cycles involving planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The results showed a significant increase in the average student score from cycle I to cycle II. The application of the PBL model also increases student involvement in the learning process, group work, and critical thinking skills.

VR Simulation: Advancing Practical Skills in Computer Science Education

This study presents the successful integration of Virtual Reality (VR) tools as an element in the computer science curriculum at the German University of Technology, Oman. The research study investigates the use of MyScore, a VR application developed by RWTH Aachen University - Teaching & Research Field Engineering Hydrology as an environment for computer hardware assembly and troubleshooting exercises. The VR simulation utilized in this study acts as a gamified environment, incorporating elements like scorekeeping and interactive challenges to enhance practical learning in computer science, akin to game-based strategies that engage and motivate students. Over some weeks, the project involved seven students and one tutor in immersive learning sessions to develop applied skills in computer hardware assembly with VR technology over conventional teaching methods. Structured surveys and direct observations were used for data collection through students' interactions with the VR sessions. We also evaluated the student's learning experiences as well as the usability of technology. The results showed that the user-friendliness of the VR interface and its ability to accurately simulate real-world tasks associated with computer assembly received both positive and negative reactions. While some students praised the technology for being pretty cutting-edge, some criticized it as unrealistic or non-interactive. We also received complaints that ranged from actually moving around in the virtual space to navigating only through teleportation spark points. Specifically, two students got motion sickness, which is a well-known obstacle associated with VR environments, and consequently left the sessions prematurely. The feedback of the instructor pointed out that setting up the VR equipment is straightforward and described some potential methods. Still, a call for more reliability in simulations and better interfaces began to surface as nevertheless less controversial agenda items. However, the instructor saw how VR has the potential to revolutionize educational practices. Providing interactive views between the VR device and students that can act as new learning methods. The present study extends the discussion on educational technology by providing empirical evidence of the benefits and challenges experienced in deploying VR for technical education implementation. These findings thus support the continued development and validation of VR technologies in pursuit of improved commitment, cost-effectiveness, immersion, and environment quality that may maximize learning outcomes in future educational applications.

Peningkatan Motivasi Belajar Siswa Melalui Penerapan Variasi Strategi Pengajaran Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah (PBL) di Kelas IV UPTD SDN 075053 Fadoro Idanoi

Learning motivation is a crucial factor that influences the success of the learning process. Students with high learning motivation tend to be more active and engaged in learning activities, while those with low motivation often feel bored and less participative. In Grade IV of UPTD SDN 075053 Fadoro Idanoi, low learning motivation has become a problem that affects students' engagement and academic performance. The conventional teaching methods, which lack variation, lead to decreased enthusiasm among students in the learning process. This study aims to examine the implementation of varied teaching strategies through Problem-Based Learning (PBL) as an effort to enhance students' motivation. PBL presents students with real-life challenges that need to be solved, which can increase their active participation, engagement, and motivation. By incorporating diverse teaching strategies through PBL, it is expected that students will become more motivated and involved in the learning process, leading to improved academic outcomes. This study is hoped to offer practical solutions for teachers to create more engaging learning environments and boost students' learning motivation in the classroom.

Transforming Sports Officiating Education: Effects of the Student-Designed Games Model on University PETE Programs

ABSTRACT This study investigates the effectiveness of the student-designed games (SDG) model in enhancing effort, cooperation, and enjoyment among 173 preservice teachers in a university-level sports officiating course within a Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) program. Using a quasiexperimental design, participants were divided into an experimental group, which underwent an 18-week SDG intervention, and a contrast group, which received conventional instruction. ANCOVA results indicated significant improvements in all areas for the SDG group. The findings highlight the potential of the SDG model to create an interactive learning environment and improve learning outcomes in PETE programs. This research extends the application of SDG to higher education and non-western context, highlighting its potential to improve the learning outcomes.

Meningkatkan Hasil Belajar Pendidikan Agama Katolik dengan Model Problem Based Learning (PBL) Fase C Kelas V SDN 105302 Tangkahan

Education is simply defined as human efforts to nurture and develop innate potential both physically and spiritually in accordance with the values present in their society and culture. The Merdeka Curriculum is a curriculum with diverse intracurricular learning and improved content, allowing students sufficient time to learn concepts and strengthen skills. The purpose of Catholic Religious Education in schools is to encourage students to interact or communicate in understanding, confronting, and living their faith. However, at SDN 105302 Tangkahan, there are challenges in teaching Catholic Religious Education, namely the low learning outcomes of students due to more conventional and non-interactive teaching methods. There is a lack of use of engaging learning media and technology that is considered irrelevant to students' daily lives. This research aims to improve student learning outcomes in Catholic Religious Education through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. This study uses a classroom action research method with fifth-grade students in phase C at SDN 105302 Tangkahan as research subjects. Data was collected through observation, tests, and interviews. The results show a significant improvement in concept understanding, collaboration skills, and student learning outcomes after the implementation of the PBL model in Catholic Religious Education.

Meningkatkan Hasil Belajar Siswa dengan Bantuan Visualisasi Video dan Gambar Menggunakan Model Pembelajaran Problem Based Learning di SMP Swasta Cinta Rakyat 1 Pematangsiantar

Education plays an important role in shaping students' character and competencies, especially in the era of globalization which requires critical and creative thinking skills. At Cinta Rakyat 1 Junior High School, Pematangsiantar City, especially class IX-A, student learning outcomes in several subjects still need to be improved. Initial observations show that many students have difficulty understanding abstract concepts conveyed verbally without the support of visual media, as well as a decrease in learning motivation due to monotonous conventional teaching methods. The use of visual media in the form of videos and images is expected to help students understand complex concepts more easily and improve memory, thereby improving learning evaluation results and increasing active student involvement. This research focuses on improving student learning outcomes in Catholic Religious Education and Character Education subjects in class IX-A by using visual media as a tool in the learning process. The research subjects were all 32 students in class IX-A. Improved learning outcomes are measured through formative assessments in the form of written tests and observations of student activity and involvement during learning. The research problem formulation includes the effectiveness of using visual media in improving learning outcomes, motivation, student involvement, and understanding of abstract concepts. The research results are expected to make a significant contribution in improving the quality of learning through a visual approach that is relevant to student needs.

Vocabulary Building through Language Games: A Study among Secondary ESL Students of Ak/Al-Irfan Ladies College, Pottuvil

This research explores the role of language games as an educational tool in developing vocabulary acquisition among secondary ESL (English as a Second Language) learners at Ak/Al-Irfan Ladies College, Pottuvil. The main goal of this research is to identify whether the collaborative language games can enhance vocabulary acquisition when compared to conventional methods of teaching, such as memorization by repetition and textbook-based learning. A mixed method research design was used to collect data for this study which includes both qualitative and quantitative data. The quantitative data was gathered using the results of pre-tests and post-tests with the aim of assessing the learner’s vocabulary acquisition before and after the classroom instruction. On the other hand, the qualitative data include questionnaires, interviews and focus group discussion with students which aid in gathering valuable insights such as their viewpoints, attitudes and experiences in terms of incorporating language games in the classroom settings. According to the findings of the research, it is clear that incorporating language games in classroom settings has a very positive impact on students’ performances in terms of acquiring vocabulary. This particular group of students not only improved their vocabulary skills but also, they were more active than the other group students when it comes to classroom activities. On the other hand, the students who were taught vocabulary using the traditional teaching methods showed less engagement in classroom activities and they were only exposed to a limited acquisition of vocabulary due to the use of conventional teaching approach. The study suggests that language games foster a more interactive and enjoyable learning environment, which contributes to the students' long-term vocabulary retention. The element of fun and competition inherent in these games appears to stimulate students' interest in learning, reducing the monotony often associated with traditional methods. Consequently, the research concludes that incorporating language games into ESL instruction can offer significant pedagogical benefits, making it a viable and potentially superior alternative to conventional vocabulary teaching methods.

The Impact of WhatsApp Groups on Improving Jordanian University Students’ Vocabulary Learning

The current study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of using WhatsApp groups to improve university students’ vocabulary learning. The study adopted a quasi-experimental research design. It consisted of 60 male and female EFL students from Ajloun College University at Al-Balqa Applied University. The participants were assigned evenly into a control group, which was taught via conventional teaching methods, and an experimental group, which was taught via a researcher-administrated WhatsApp group. The teaching material included the first three units of the curriculum specified for the English Language 1 course at Ajloun University College. The study used vocabulary pre- and post-tests. The findings of the study revealed that the experimental group members performed better than the control group in the vocabulary post-test results. The findings demonstrated the effectiveness of using the WhatsApp group method to improve vocabulary learning among undergraduate EFL students at Ajloun University College. The study concluded that using group instant messaging mobile applications significantly improves the vocabulary teaching and learning process.

Experiences of Adult Learners Engaged in Blended Learning beyond COVID-19 in Ghana

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has transformed the educational landscape, making exploration of blended learning (BL) instructional delivery important. Higher education institutions are navigating the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on instructional delivery. Using Accra Learning Centre as a case study, this article explores the experiences of adult learners engaged in BL after the COVID-19 crisis in Ghana. A qualitative research method was employed, and a purposive sampling procedure was used to select 15 adult learners. An in-depth interview guide was developed to garner data. Thematic, narrative, and interpretivist analytical approaches were adopted in presenting the results. Participants’ voices, experiences, and meanings were sought. It emerged that BL promotes inquiry-based, self-directed, and constructivist learning rather than using conventional face-to-face teaching and learning, though conventional teaching and learning cannot be discounted, BL fosters self-paced learning among adult learners. It recommends that faculty continue to sharpen their skills in BL instructional delivery and adult learners should be equipped with skills in time management, and effective digital tools used to engage in BL.

CalcEs-supported activities in reciprocal teaching on senior high school students’ mathematics learning

CalcEs is an educational software application that enhances students' comfort and efficiency in problem-solving. The integration of reciprocal teaching with educational software like CalcEs not only improves mathematical understanding but also aligns with the broader goals of developing 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy. This quasi-experimental research investigated the impact of CalcEs-supported activities on students' performance in General Mathematics. The control group, consisting of 24 Grade 11 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students, used conventional teaching methods, while the experimental group, comprising 30 Grade 11 Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) students, engaged in reciprocal teaching with CalcEs supported activities. Significant differences were observed in the pre-test and post-test scores within both groups, as well as between the post-test scores of the two groups, indicating that CalcEs-supported activities in reciprocal teaching positively influenced student performance.

THE ROLE OF DIGITIZATION OF THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS IN THE CREATION AND FUNCTIONING OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

The authors assert that by improving instruction methods and reinventing learning experiences, artificial intelligence is already changing the educational environment for both instructors and students. It has been demonstrated that artificial intelligence disrupts conventional teaching and learning strategies, having a significant influence on contemporary education. Moreover, it is mentioned that gaining an understanding of AI-powered technologies’ potential of will make it easier to integrate them into the teaching process, improve instructional strategies, and automate administrative duties.

Using Problem-Based Learning to Boost Social Studies Performance: Classroom Action Research in Grade 5 at SD INPRES 3 Talise

The role of education in developing effective problem solvers, critical thinkers, and responsible members of society is of great importance. This research deals with the low performance in social studies subjects caused by the continued application of conventional teaching models. The aim of this study is to improve the learning outcomes of grade V students in social studies subjects at SD INPRES 3 Talise by applying the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles, following the Kemmis and McTaggart model, involving 22 students from grade V. Data were collected through tests, observations, and interviews, then analysed quantitatively and qualitatively. Initial observations revealed that only 36.36% of students achieved the learning objectives with an average score of 50.90. The implementation of PBL involved the collaborative planning, action, observation, and reflection phases. The results demonstrated significant improvements in student engagement and learning outcomes. The average score increased, and the percentage of students who achieved the learning objectives rose significantly, respectively from 63.63 in cycle I to 81.59 in cycle II. However, the average score did not yet reach the KKM. Furthermore, the percentage of completeness has also increased, namely in cycle I by 59.09% and cycle II by 86.36%. This research demonstrates that PBL can effectively enhance the quality of social studies education by fostering learning.

Impact of Project-Based Learning (PBL) Integrated with Google Classroom on Improving English Writing Skills in a Bangladeshi University

Developing tertiary students’ writing skills is a crucial issue. Teachers integrate writing projects with Google Classroom to develop students’ writing skills, although the impact of this learning model has not yet been determined in the Bangladeshi higher education context. This research explored the impact of project-based learning (PBL), supported by Google Classroom, on developing the writing skills of tertiary students in Bangladesh. This quasi-experimental study analyzed essays written by 30 control- and 30 experimental-group students. Additionally, in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 students to collect data. A t test and thematic analysis were conducted for quantitative and qualitative data analysis, respectively. This quasi-experimental research used a pre-test/post-test and control group design. The experiment was implemented for the experimental group using PBL with Google Classroom and for the control group using the conventional teaching method. The pre-test results indicate no differences between the groups (t = 0.55, p > 0.05) in terms of writing proficiency before the intervention. Nevertheless, the post-test yielded a t value of 3.43 (p < 0.01), which was statistically significant in favor of the experimental group. This suggests the enhancement of students’ writing skills through PBL with Google Classroom. These results demonstrate the benefits of the combination of interactive activities and social interaction conducive to writing tasks provided by this blended learning strategy. The implications are that teachers can blend PBL with Google Classroom for more active learning environments that align with students with real-world writing tasks. Limitations involved a small sample size and study duration. Future work should target larger, more diverse samples and incorporate qualitative work to deepen understanding of the learning process and outcomes.

How Do the STAD Cooperative Learning Model, Conventional Methods, and Student Confidence Affect Football Learning Outcomes?

This study evaluates the impact of the STAD-type cooperative learning model and the conventional model on football learning outcomes among Grade VIII students at Junior High School 2 Sijunjung, specifically considering students' confidence levels. The primary issue addressed is the low football learning outcomes linked to conventional teaching methods, which often result in reduced student engagement. The objectives of this research are clearly defined: to examine the interaction between the learning model and student confidence in relation to learning outcomes, to compare the effectiveness of the two models, and to investigate differences in learning outcomes between high and low confidence students within each model. Using a quasi-experimental method, the study employs qualitative descriptive analysis for measuring confidence and quantitative analysis for assessing football skills. A sample of 82 male students was divided into high and low confidence groups, each receiving instruction through either the STAD or conventional model. Data were collected via confidence questionnaires and football skill tests, then analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey’s test. The findings indicate that the STAD-type cooperative learning model is generally more effective in enhancing football learning outcomes compared to the conventional model. Notably, there is a significant interaction between the learning model and confidence; students with low confidence utilizing the STAD model achieved better learning outcomes, whereas those with high confidence performed better under the conventional approach. This suggests that confidence plays a crucial role in learning outcomes, with lower confidence students benefiting from collaborative learning settings. In conclusion, the study highlights the overall effectiveness of the STAD-type cooperative learning model, especially for students with low confidence. It emphasizes the importance of tailoring teaching methods to align with students’ confidence levels to maximize learning outcomes. Future recommendations include exploring strategies to boost confidence among students, which could further enhance their engagement and performance in physical education.

A Study on the Work Process-Based Practical Training Model for Basic Nursing Skills in Vocational Colleges

Objective: To explore and analyze the work process-based practical training teaching model for basic nursing skills in vocational colleges and its implementation effects. Methods: A total of 82 nursing students from our school were selected for the study, which was conducted from April 2023 to April 2024. Using a random number table method, the students were divided into an observation group and a control group, each with 41 students. The control group received conventional practical training teaching, while the observation group followed the work process-based practical training model for basic nursing skills. The assessment scores and teaching satisfaction of the two groups were compared. Results: The comparison of assessment scores showed that the observation group performed significantly better than the control group (P < 0.05). The comparison of teaching satisfaction also indicated that the observation group had significantly higher satisfaction than the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The work process-based practical training teaching model for basic nursing skills in vocational colleges can improve students’ assessment scores and enhance teaching satisfaction, demonstrating its value for wider application.

Improving Students' Science Literacy Skills through Treasure Hunting Games with Problem Based Learning Model

This study aims to evaluate the impact of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with a treasure hunt game strategy on improving students' scientific literacy skills. The research method employed a quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects consisted of two classes: an experimental class implementing the PBL model with the treasure hunt game strategy and a control class using conventional teaching methods. Data were collected through scientific literacy tests administered before and after the intervention and analyzed using stacking and racking analysis based on the Rasch Model. The results indicated that both classes experienced an increase in scientific literacy skills, with the experimental class showing a higher average increase of 1.99 compared to the control class's 1.80. Although the percentage difference in improvement was only about 11.24%, this suggests that the PBL method with the game strategy can provide additional positive contributions to science learning. The discussion highlights the importance of proper method implementation, teacher-student interaction, and learning environment conditions in influencing learning outcomes. In conclusion, while the PBL method with the game strategy is effective in enhancing scientific literacy, a holistic approach is still needed for optimal development of students' abilities.

This study investigates the impact of using Quizizz Paper Mode as a learning medium on the mathematics learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SDN Setu 02 Jakarta. Employing a quantitative research method with a Posttest-Only Control Design, the study involved two groups: an experimental group utilizing Quizizz Paper Mode and a control group relying on conventional teaching methods. The results demonstrate a significant improvement in the experimental group's post-test scores compared to the control group, indicating the effectiveness of Quizizz Paper Mode in enhancing students' mathematical understanding and engagement. The study's findings suggest that integrating technology like Quizizz Paper Mode in education can positively influence learning outcomes, though limitations such as sample size and focus on a single subject should be considered. The research underscores the need for further exploration and implementation of educational technologies in primary school curricula.
