Hall viscosity for optical phonons

We generalize the notion of dissipationless, topological Hall viscosity tensor to optical phonons in thin film Weyl semimetals. By using the strained Porphyrin thin film Weyl semimetal as a model example, we show how optical phonons can couple to Weyl electrons as chiral pseudo gauge fields. These chiral vector fields lead to a novel dissipationless two-rank viscosity tensor in the effective dynamics of optical phonons whose origin is the chiral anomaly. We also compute the contribution to this two rank Hall viscosity tensor due to the presence of an external magnetic field, whose origin is the conventional Hall response of Weyl electrons. Finally, the phonon dispersion relations of the system at the long-wavelength limit with and without an electromagnetic field are calculated showing a measurable shift in the Raman response of the system. Our results can be investigated by Raman scattering or infrared spectroscopy by attenuated total reflectance experiments.

Spin current generation in organic antiferromagnets

Spin current–a flow of electron spins without a charge current–is an ideal information carrier free from Joule heating for electronic devices. The celebrated spin Hall effect, which arises from the relativistic spin-orbit coupling, enables us to generate and detect spin currents in inorganic materials and semiconductors, taking advantage of their constituent heavy atoms. In contrast, organic materials consisting of molecules with light elements have been believed to be unsuited for spin current generation. Here we show that a class of organic antiferromagnets with checker-plate type molecular arrangements can serve as a spin current generator by applying a thermal gradient or an electric field, even with vanishing spin-orbit coupling. Our findings provide another route to create a spin current distinct from the conventional spin Hall effect and open a new field of spintronics based on organic magnets having advantages of small spin scattering and long lifetime.

Observation of topological valley transport of elastic waves in bilayer phononic crystal slabs

Abstract In this Letter, we propose a unique bilayer design of phononic crystal slabs that are constructed by two layers of snowflake phononic crystal plates connected by a honeycomb array of cylinders. By tuning orientations of snowflake-shaped holes in both layers, we achieve two kinds of valley-projected topological elastic insulators distinguished by conventional and layer-polarized topological valley Hall phases. Then, between different conventional and layer-polarized topological valley Hall phases, two kinds of edge modes, layer-mixed and layer-polarized edge modes, are obtained and explored. In finite-size samples, the interesting topological transport properties, which the elastic wave can propagate alternatively between both layers and only in a single layer, are realized by exciting layer-mixed and layer-polarized edge states. In addition, we design an interlayer converter to realize conversion of the elastic wave propagation between both layers. Our research promotes the development of topological elastic insulators and provides a route for various practical applications.

Contactless millimeter wave method for quality assessment of large area graphene

We demonstrate that microwave absorption experiments offer a route for efficient measurements of transport properties for fast and accurate quality control of graphene. This conctactless characterization method can be used to quickly evaluate transport properties over large areas without recourse to complex lithographic methods making it suitable as a probe of quality during wafer scale fabrication. In particular, we demonstrate that absorption measurement of transport properties is sensitive to inhomogeneities in sample transport properties. This is in contrast to traditional methods using electrical contacts which tend to overestimate transport properties due to the formation of preferential conducting channels between the electrodes. Here we compare Shubnikov–de Haas oscillations simultaneously detected by microwave absorption and by conventional contact Hall bar measurements in fields up to 15 T on quasi-free standing, large area (25 mm2) monolayer graphene. We find that although the evaluated charge carrier densities from both measurements are similar, the mobility differs considerably due to electronic transport inhomogeneity.

Staggered potential and magnetic field tunable electronic switch in a kagome nanoribbon junction

We propose a possible electronic switch on a two dimensional (2D) kagome lattice by applying a perpendicular inhomogeneous magnetic field and a staggered sublattice potential. By means of the tight-binding lattice model and the non-equilibrium Green’s function method, we calculate the quantum Hall conductance of the device at zero temperature limit. The numerical results demonstrate that when a staggered lattice potential is considered, the conventional integer Hall effect is changed into discrete fractional conductance peaks, and a finite energy gap can be opened in the system, which may induce a metal-insulator transition and can be designed as a 2D electronic valve. The conductance valve phenomena mainly come from the interplay between the asymmetry energy band induced by the magnetic field and a band gap opened by the staggered potential. The ON(OFF) state of the electron transport is efficiently controlled by the device parameters such as the magnetic field, the staggered lattice potential and the Fermi level. Our findings might be useful for designing efficient current valves in 2D nano-electronic devices.

Entangled multi-knot lattice model of anyon current**Project supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant No. 11304062).

We proposed an entangled multi-knot lattice model to explore the exotic statistics of anyons. Long-range coupling interaction is a fundamental character of this knot lattice model. The short-range coupling models, such as the Ising model, Hamiltonian model of quantum Hall effect, fermion pairing model, Kitaev honeycomb lattice model, and so on, are the short-range coupling cases of this knot lattice model. The long-range coupling knot lattice model bears Abelian and non-Abelian anyons, and shows integral and fractional filling states like the quantum Hall system. The fusion rules of anyons are explicitly demonstrated by braiding crossing states. The eigenstates of quantum models can be represented by a multi-layer link lattice pattern whose topology is characterized by the linking number. This topological linking number offers a new quantity to explain and predict physical phenomena in conventional quantum models. For example, a convection flow loop is introduced into the well-known Bardeen–Cooper–Schrieffer fermion pairing model to form a vortex dimer state that offers an explanation of the pseudogap state of unconventional superconductors, and predicts a fractionally filled vortex dimer state. The integrally and fractionally quantized Hall conductance in the conventional quantum Hall system has an exact correspondence with the linking number in this multi-knot lattice model. The real-space knot pattern in the topological insulator model has an equivalent correspondence with the Lissajous knot in momentum space. The quantum phase transition between different quantum states of the quantum spin model is also directly quantified by the change of topological linking number, which revealed the topological character of phase transition. Circularized photons in an optical fiber network are a promising physical implementation of this multi-knot lattice, and provide a different path to topological quantum computation.

Non-equilibrium Spin-Hall effect in irregularly shaped aluminum and tungsten samples

The method proposed by us in Ref. [1], which eliminates obstacles in the application of electrical methods for studying the spin-Hall effect (SHE) by creating a spin unbalance, which generates a charge unbalance, using the form effect without using polarized injected current, is used in this work to study and compare SHE of different origin - internal (band) and external (structural and impurity). The internal SHE (ISHE) was studied on ultrapure single crystal samples of uncompensated (aluminum) and compensated (tungsten) metals. The influence of external factors on SHE was studied on polycrystalline and impurity aluminum samples. The investigations were carried out in the region of small magnetic fields, which ensure the symmetry of the conventional Hall effect (CHE), which makes it possible to study the chiral behavior of the spin Hall effect.

A Low Noise Offset Cancellation Method for Improving Sensitivity of CMOS Hall Sensor

A low-noise offset-cancellation method is proposed to increase the sensitivity of CMOS Hall sensors. Conventional CMOS Hall sensors have low sensitivity because of high offset, flicker (1/f) noise, and chopper switching noise. To improve the sensitivity of Hall sensors, we need to reduce the noise generation and separate the Hall signal from the noise. Therefore, in this study, switching noise and harmonics are reduced by applying a low-noise offset-cancellation method using a reduced number of choppers. In addition, because the Hall signal does transform back to DC, it is not affected by the offset noise of the read-out circuits. A Hall sensor system that includes a CMOS Hall plate is designed and tested. When the Hall signal processed by the proposed method is compared with the existing system under the same conditions, we confirm that the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) improves by 18.36 dB and the spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) improves by 9.02 dB.

Band Signatures for Strong Nonlinear Hall Effect in Bilayer WTe_{2}.

Unconventional responses upon breaking discrete or crystal symmetries open avenues for exploring emergent physical systems and materials. By breaking inversion symmetry, a nonlinear Hall signal can be observed, even in the presence of time-reversal symmetry, quite different from the conventional Hall effects. Low-symmetry two-dimensional materials are promising candidates for the nonlinear Hall effect, but it is less known when a strong nonlinear Hall signal can be measured, in particular, its connections with the band-structure properties. By using model analysis, we find prominent nonlinear Hall signals near tilted band anticrossings and band inversions. These band signatures can be used to explain the strong nonlinear Hall effect in the recent experiments on two-dimensional WTe_{2}. This Letter will be instructive not only for analyzing the transport signatures of the nonlinear Hall effect but also for exploring unconventional responses in emergent materials.

Electric-field-tuned topological phase transition in ultrathin Na3Bi.

The electric-field-induced quantum phase transition from topological to conventional insulator has been proposed as the basis of a topological field effect transistor1-4. In this scheme, 'on' is the ballistic flow of charge and spin along dissipationless edges of a two-dimensional quantum spin Hall insulator5-9, and 'off' is produced by applying an electric field that converts the exotic insulator to a conventional insulator with no conductive channels. Such a topological transistor is promising for low-energy logic circuits4, which would necessitate electric-field-switched materials with conventional and topological bandgaps much greater than the thermal energy at room temperature, substantially greater than proposed so far6-8. Topological Dirac semimetals are promising systems in which to look for topological field-effect switching, as they lie at the boundary between conventional and topological phases3,10-16. Here we use scanning tunnelling microscopy and spectroscopy and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy to show that mono- and bilayer films of the topological Dirac semimetal3,17 Na3Bi are two-dimensional topological insulators with bulk bandgaps greater than 300millielectronvolts owing to quantum confinement in the absence of electric field. On application of electric field by doping with potassium or by close approach of the scanning tunnelling microscope tip, the Stark effect completely closes the bandgap and re-opens it as a conventional gap of 90millielectronvolts. The large bandgaps in both the conventional and quantum spin Hall phases, much greater than the thermal energy at room temperature (25millielectronvolts), suggest that ultrathin Na3Bi is suitable for room-temperature topological transistor operation.

Application of Tropical Architecture in Convention Hall Design

Meeting as one of the daily activities become a base to provide a space which can accommodate communities activities, especially Medan, Indonesia. However, as the number of population increase, especially in the areas with the light of convention hall building, the design of convention hall is required. Building developments that occur at this time in the suburbs of Medan become the basis to create a convention hall. Respond to this problem, a convention hall designed to consider local wisdom in the urban area by applying elements of tropical architecture.

EFFECT OF ACOUSTIC MATERIAL CEILING TO SPEECH PERFORMANCE OF CONVENTION HALL

&lt;p class="Abstract"&gt;&lt;em&gt;During design process of auditorium, mostly, acoustics design was neglected by engineers therefore it may cause inappropriate acoustic condition. Evaluation of acoustic comfort was carried out through measurement of speech parameters such as Noise rating (NR), reverberation time and definition (D&lt;sub&gt;50&lt;/sub&gt;). According to measurement result, performance of convention hall is not sufficient to perform speech activities since it has 0.4-13.7 s of reverberation time and 1.6-42.6% of D50. To improve acoustic performance, modification is applied on ceiling materials using combination of two different acoustic materials – absorber and diffusor, through simulation.. The result has shown that installment of full absorber at ceiling with high absorbtive coefficient could reduce early energy reflection which causes lower reverberation time and higher definition. Whenever ceiling are made of combination of two type of materials, the position of di on ceiling depend on diffusor orientation. Spread diffusor has better performance rather than centralized diffusor. However, the acoustic performance of convention hall remains the same.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="Abstract"&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

Berry phase theory of planar Hall effect in topological insulators

The appearance of negative longitudinal magnetoresistance (LMR) in topological semimetals such as Weyl and Dirac semimetals is understood as an effect of chiral anomaly, whereas such an anomaly is not well-defined in topological insulators. Nevertheless, it has been shown recently in both theory and experiments that nontrivial Berry phase effects can give rise to negative LMR in topological insulators even in the absence of chiral anomaly. In this paper, we present a quasi-classical theory of another intriguing phenomenon in topological insulators – also ascribed to chiral anomaly in Weyl and Dirac semimetals– the so-called planar Hall effect (PHE). PHE implies the appearance of a transverse voltage in the plane of applied non-parallel electric and magnetic fields, in a configuration in which the conventional Hall effect vanishes. Starting from Boltzmann transport equations we derive the expressions for PHE and LMR in topological insulators in the bulk conduction limit, and show the important role played by orbital magnetic moment. Our theoretical results for magnetoconductance with non-parallel electric and magnetic fields predict detailed experimental signatures in topological insulators – specifically of planar Hall effect – that can be observed in experiments.

Free-layer-thickness-dependence of the spin galvanic effect with spin rotation symmetry

Spin-orbit coupling near the surface of a ferromagnetic metal gives rises to spin-to-charge conversion with symmetry different from the conventional inverse spin Hall effect. We have previously observed this spin galvanic effect with spin rotation symmetry (SGE-SR) in a spin valve under a temperature gradient. Here, we show there are two processes that contribute to the SGE-SR, one of which is sensitive to the free magnetic layer thickness, while the other only depends on the interface of the free layer. Based on the free-layer-thickness-dependent study, we extrapolate the spin diffusion length of Py to be 3.9 ± 0.2 nm. We also propose that the SGE-SR can help to quantitatively study the spin Seebeck effect in metallic magnetic films.

IMPLEMENTASI STRATEGI 4P DALAM MENINGKATKAN FREKUENSI PUBLIC EVENT DI HARRIS HOTEL AND CONVENTIONS BEKASI (HHCB)

&lt;p&gt;ABSTRACT&lt;br /&gt;This research is intended to study the 4P marketing mix strategy to and its effect to the products of MICE industry, as well as developing an alternative or improvements; particularly in the publicevents section of one hotel in Bekasi area, which is HARRIS Hotel and Conventions Bekasi. HARRIS Hotel and Conventions Bekasi is a brand of four – star hotel in the Summarecon Bekasi area. The method used in this research is the descriptive qualitative method and data collection is performed using triangulation method with interview, observation, and documentation conducted to the sales and marketing staff of HARRIS Hotel and Conventions Bekasi, practicioners and experts in the field of event management and marketing. The collected data is then analyzed using the Miles and Hubermann interactive analysis method to evaluate the 4P marketing mix strategy and improvements which can be done. The conclusion of this research is: the 4P marketing mix strategy used in the events section of HARRIS Hotel and Conventions, particularly in the publicevents sector is sufficient but is still lacking in product diversity and product promotion. Improvements can be done by improving product diversity by making new packages on publicevents such as exhibitions and conventions, and the promotion of the brand new convention hall facility should be made to increase its public prescence.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Key words: marketing strategy, marketing mix, public event, existing strategy, alternative strategy.&lt;/p&gt;
