By reason of the special structure of S.A.P., achieved by powder metallurgy, the conventional fusion welding methods are unsuitable for this material. Methods of solid state bonding such as flash butt welding or hot pressure welding have been successfully applied to S.A.P. Under suitable conditions it should nevertheless be possible to achieve bonds satisfactory for many practical purposes by adopting such fusion welding techniques as will allow the material to be melted only within extremely close-drawn limits as to time and area.
