As a major power utiiity In the Hong Kong SAR, The Hongkong Electric Co Ltd (HEC) has committed not only in supplying reliable and cost effective electricity to customers but working closely and proactively with the Environmental Protection Deportment to maintain a high standard Of environmental core. Such pledge has been demonstrated by HECs continual adoption of the state-oj-the-art technologies for minimising pollution from its coal-jlred generating units at Lamma Power Station. Considerable amount of efforts has been dedicated by HEC to bring along cost effective and proven pollution control equipments to Lamma not only for the purpose Of compliance with the stringent local statutory reqUirements, but also to demonstrate the compony’s commitment in envIronmental care and to help protecting the living environment that meets the expectations of the cammunity. This paper serves to provide a brief insight into port Of the advanced pollution control technologies adopted by HECfor its coal-jlred generating units over the past decade and the on-going effort that the company is preparing to face for future challenges In environmental protection.
