Utilization of Nanocenospheres a waste material to improve the physical and rheological properties of SBS asphalt binders

The performance enhancement of asphalt binders by incorporating innovative additives has been a subject of significant research and industry interest. This study emphasizes the potential of Nano polymer composites as a promising additive for improving the performance of asphalt binders, providing valuable insights into developing advanced asphalt materials for sustainable road infrastructure construction and maintenance. It explores the utilization of nano cenospheres to amplify the attributes of Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) modified asphalt binders. It introduces a novel approach by incorporating Nano polymer composites (NPC) comprising nanocenosphere particles and Styrene-butadiene-Styrene Particles. Nanocenosphere particles are the waste materials derived from coal combustion in thermal power plants. Styrene-butadiene-styrene is a type of thermoplastic elastomer, a synthetic rubber. A series of experimental tests, penetration, softening point, ductility, performance grading, temperature sweep, multiple stress and creep recovery, frequency sweep, linear amplitude sweep, and rutting aging index, is conducted to evaluate changes in physical and rheological properties. Results indicate that adding nano cenospheres particles in SBS asphalt binder enhances its softening point, elasticity recovery, rutting resistance, fatigue life, storage stability, and aging resistance compared to traditional SBS-modified asphalt binders. Statistical analyses were accomplished to comprehend the influence of the Nano polymer composites. This analysis provides valuable insights into the effects of nanocenospheres on SBS-modified binders. Through rigorous statistical analysis, a thorough interpretation of how the incorporation of nanocenospheres influences the attributes of Nano-polymer composites.

Green Transition Assessment, Spatial Correlation, and Obstacles Identification: Evidence from Urban Governance Data of 288 Cities in China

The green transition of China’s cities is crucial for ecology civilization realization. Based on the driver–pressure–state–impact–response (DPSIR) framework, an integrated technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) model with entropy weight, this study achieved the comprehensive assessment of the green transition of 288 province-level municipalities and prefecture-level cities in China over 18 years from 2002 to 2019, in addition to the spatial correlations and obstacles analysis. The results indicate that major cities in China have a more significant green transition value, and the eastern region is developing fast, while the northeast region is relatively slow. There was heterogeneous spatial distribution for green transition, because of the disequilibrium sustainable development of 288 cities. Green transition has a significantly positive spatial autocorrelation in the cities of China, the high–high significant clusters greatly increased, and the main locations changed from the northeast to southeast of China. Frequent obstacles were also found, including road infrastructure construction, water resources, and the green coverage of urban built-up areas. Based on these results, several policy implications were put forward, including the optimization of environmental laws and regulations, the development of green transportation infrastructure, resource conservation and the circular economy, the establishment of a green financial system, and increasing the linkage for the green transition of different cities.

Effective lane width for cars considering lateral oscillation characteristics based on high-precision field data

The cross-sectional width of highways is a major factor that affects the construction cost of engineering projects. With the increasing demand for intensive highway construction, research on dedicated lanes or roadway for cars has attracted research attention. The lateral oscillation value of vehicle’s trajectory is the direct factor that affects lane width; however, relevant research is relatively limited, and the characteristics are not yet clear. Therefore, this study utilized an integrated radar–video system to collect real high-precision trajectory data, obtaining 24,697 datasets. Statistical methods were used to reveal the lateral oscillation value and determine the effective lane width of car for safe driving. The research results are as follows: 1. The lateral oscillation value of car present differences on different lanes. Vehicles on the inner two lanes tend to drift leftward, whereas those on the outermost lane drift rightward. 2. When operating speed ranges from 80 km/h to 110 km/h, the lateral oscillation value presents a statistical rule, which obeys a normal distribution for the left and right margins, namely, Dleft ∼ N(0.87, 0.15) and Dright ∼ N(0.72, 0.15). This lateral oscillation value is insensitive to fluctuations in operating speed (80 km/h ∼ 110 km/h) from the standpoint of field data. 3. The fitted expressions of effective lane width for cars was proposed and the effective lane width at the 95th, 90th, and 85th percentile is 3.2 m, 3.0 m, and 2.8 m, respectively. These results can provide technical support for dedicated lane width for cars and have practical significance for the intensive construction of road infrastructure in highly urbanized areas.

The erosion of the sense of nationalism which lies in the threat of disintegration and migration of the population, the people of the border areas must be handled seriously. The development of border areas, especially in the Rupat Island area, has recently undergone many changes. The government with a policy of developing Indonesia from the periphery (border area) as an effort to change the face of the border and the outermost island areas both from the side of the border (border) as well as the accessibility of the community in various services, as well as infrastructure development in the border area has an impact on the economy. This research method uses the Mixed Methods technique which will combine qualitative methods with quantitative methods simultaneously in order to obtain more comprehensive, valid and objective data. The results of the study explain that the construction of road infrastructure and the operation of the "roll on roll off" (RoRo) ferry crossings for passenger and freight transportation have changed the pattern of community economic activity, both in terms of consumption, as well as dukupun. This change in the pattern of economic activity has strengthened the nationalism of the people on Rupat Island.

Peran Pemerintah Dalam Menanggulangi Kerusakan Infrastruktur Jalan Di Desa Bah Tobu Kecamatan Dolok Batu Nanggar Kabupaten Simalungun

The purpose of this study was to see how the Government's Role in Overcoming Damage to Road Infrastructure in Bah Tobu Village, Dolok Batu Nanggar District, Simalungun Regency. The research method used is descriptive research using qualitative methods. The results of this study are that the inhibiting factor in the construction of road infrastructure in Simalungun Regency is the limited budget or available funds, while the development that will be carried out is quite large and extensive with limited budgets available, so the development is not smooth. And also the lack of attention from the Simalungun government and sustainable road maintenance. With road damage such as being able to hamper travel and can cause traffic accidents, it is hoped that the regional government or related agencies will immediately follow up on this matter.

Public-Private Partnership Participation in Road Infrastructure Construction Projects in Tanzania: Challenges and the Way Forward

Developing countries face inadequate resources for funding road infrastructures. This has amalgamated the public and private sectors into a mutually beneficial relationship through Public Private Partnerships (PPPs). Although extensive documentation exists on PPPs globally in various sectors, studies examining the challenges to PPPs in Road Infrastructure Construction projects in Tanzania are inadequate. This study aimed to address this shortfall. Purposive sampling was used to select 20 respondents for the study. A qualitative research design was used in the study, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and document reviews. Thematic analysis was employed to analyze the data from interviews and focus group discussions. Over two-thirds of the interviewed respondents revealed that lack of preparedness, limited information on available opportunities for PPP projects, and inadequate capital market were among the main challenges facing PPPs on road infrastructure projects in Tanzania. The study calls for improving the institutional framework to enhance private sector participation in PPPs in road projects

BIM Modelling of the AQP Touristic Cycle Path

BIM (building information modelling) has led to substantial improvements in all design steps. Applied mainly as an information management system in the digital design of structures and buildings, only in recent years has the use of BIM also extended to the construction of road infrastructure. The so-called I-BIM (infrastructure building information modelling) methodology supports the designer in the phases of construction and execution of the design considering all aspects related to the project, including sustainability. Through the software “Roads” of “SierraSoft S.r.l.”, in this article, the I-BIM approach has been used to design a 35 km cycle path as sustainable as possible. From an operational point of view, the design of a cycle path section begins with the modelling of the infrastructure in all its aspects: a study of the route, analysis of interference, modelling of the infrastructure (floor plan, profile and sections) and an intersection study. Creating an infrastructure that increases soft mobility vehicles through a comprehensive design, attracting as many users as possible, is the real innovative challenge.

Stabilisasi Tanah Gambut Dengan Menggunakan Campuran Kapur Studi Kasus : Ruas Jalan Rengat - Bukit Meranti Kecamatan Rengat Kabupaten Indragiri Hulu

Riau is one of three provinces with dominant peatlands. Indragiri Hulu Regency is the sixth largest district with the largest area of ​​peatland with a value of 222 thousand hectares. Particularly in Sekip Hilir Village, Rengat District, Indragiri Hulu Regency, there is quite extensive peatland and in this location there is infrastructure in the form of Jalan Rengat – Bukit Meranti. The construction of road infrastructure on peatlands has experienced many problems. This is because peat soil has a very low carrying capacity so that the settlement that occurs is large and unable to support the work load. Stabilization efforts are needed to improve the carrying capacity of peat soils. Stabilization on peat soil will be carried out chemically using lime as a stabilizing mixture with variations of 5%, 10% and 15%. From the results of the tests carried out, namely the addition of lime variations to the peat soil stabilization mixture is proven to increase the CBR (California Bearing Ratio) value. The CBR value of peat soil mixture with the addition of 5% lime was obtained at 17.28%. At the addition of 10% lime the CBR value increased to 21.81% and at the addition of 15% lime it increased to 30.04%. From the CBR value of peat soil with variations in lime mixture obtained, the authors prove that an addition of ≥ 5% has been able to achieve a laboratory CBR standard value of 17.28% and has met the Bina Marga specifications for road pavement subgrade, namely ≥ 6%. .
 

Analyzing accessibility of car campgrounds through road network structure software in Beijing

The development of self-driving tourism and automobile campgrounds depends on the construction of road infrastructure. In this study, we utilized aeronautical reconnaissance coverage geographic information system (ArcGIS), spatial analysis technology and accessibility model to quantitatively examine the accessibility and spatial pattern of automobile campgrounds in Beijing. Our findings reveal that Beijing's automobile campgrounds exhibit a circular distribution pattern, with decreasing accessibility from the center to the periphery areas. The overall accessibility maintains high-level road directivity, with an average travel time to automobile campgrounds ranging from 0.028 to 3.37 h. Access to automobile campgrounds is higher in the central and southern-central regions compared to the northwest and southwest regions, highlighting a highly unbalanced spatial pattern of accessibility. Finally, we provide suggestions for optimizing the accessibility of automobile campgrounds in Beijing based on our research.

Quantifying the Environmental Impact of Vehicle Emissions Due to Traffic Diversion Plans for Road Infrastructure Construction Projects: A Case Study in China

Current LCA-based environmental impact assessments rarely consider the environmental impact of traffic network deterioration due to temporary road closures during road infrastructure construction processes. This study proposes a quantification method to evaluate the environmental impact of traffic diversions during the road infrastructure construction process. The environmental impact assessment method ReCiPe 2016 was selected to evaluate the environmental impact of pollutant emissions from deteriorated traffic conditions. Ten types of traffic emissions were estimated by emission factors and traffic conditions. A case study quantified the potential environmental impact of traffic emissions resulting from four diversion plans based on an actual bridge-construction case study in Chongqing city of China. Results revealed that different diversion plans could lead to different final environmental impacts. “Global warming” dominated both “Human health” and “Ecosystems” impacts. In the “Human health” category, more than 95% of the environmental impact was contributed by global warming. Similarly, the impact of “Global warming” was higher than 75% in the “Ecosystems” category. CO2 emissions were the main contributor to the overall “Global warming” impact in all four diversion plans. The traffic speed under traffic diversions before and during road infrastructure construction processes is the major factor influencing the overall environmental impact (endpoint).

Low-Carbon Road Reconstruction Design —— Empirical Research Based on Road Cost Management Software

Driven By the Low Carbon Policy, low-carbon road infrastructure construction is greatly concerned. The lack of standardized quantification of energy consumption and carbon emissions limits the universality of Low Carbon road construction practice. Based on the national road cost management software and China's life cycle core database, the standardized quantification method of energy consumption and carbon emissions is established. Empirical project data are used to check the Effectiveness of the method. The method is to screen out the design measure with better energy conservation and lower carbon emission.

Multicriteria Decision Model for Road Construction Project

Construction of roads plays an important role in linking one area to another, and also acts as a substance for the local economy. However, the limitation of study on the project performance towards the road infrastructure construction project requires more precise attention. Thus, it requires distinct responsiveness from contractors to evaluate and cope with the risks. This study aims to identify the project execution risk factors involved in the road construction project, reference to a current case study from a federal government project Public Work Department (PWD) on the East Coast of Malaysia: Upgrading 14.7 kilometre (km) federal road from the Pekan town to Sungai Miang. This study will begin with the identification of the project execution risk factors, utilizing an extensive review of the literature. Next, the gathered risk factors will go through a pilot phase validation interview with road construction experts from the public work department (PWD) and also construction practitioners that are involved directly in the project case study. Findings found seven (7) main project execution risk factors involved in the road construction project, which include resource risk, land acquisition issue, project management issue, technical risk, service utility issue, unforeseen ground condition, and force majeure risk. Among the seven (7) factors twenty-one (21) project execution risk sub-factors, were further explored that are crucial to the project. The main contribution of this study is the final multi-criteria decision model obtained from literature searching cross-referenced to the real case study that may be beneficial to the road construction project team specifically.

Completing the planning and implementation of plans of public investment in road infrastructure construction in Vietnam

In recent years, public investment has been crucial in promoting socioeconomic development. In the context of Vietnam's economic recession and difficulties due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, public investment in road transport infrastructure construction has become an effective tool for macroeconomic management. Planning and implementation of plans have an essential function in ensuring investment efficiency. The article analyzed the current situation of public investment planning and implementation in road infrastructure construction, pointed out the shortcomings, and established 19 criteria to evaluate the planning function and organization of plan implementation. Also, in the article, quantitative analysis is performed through SPSS software to determine the level of achievement of the targets. That is the basis for the authors to propose some solutions to improve the planning and implementation of plans to enhance the efficiency of public investment in road infrastructure construction in Vietnam.

Research has shown that in Nigeria, the construction of road infrastructure is often chosen to meet the practical need of moving people and goods from one point to the other. The article covers a short history of the Nigerian national road network, its emergence and the expansion of Nigerian roads, and the influence of road infrastructure on agriculture and rural development. In addition, healthcare, general social change, and poverty are inclusive as the main components of this review. While this article focuses primarily on road infrastructure, there are few citations to back up points about other forms or modes of transportation. Conclusively, the research indicates a functional link between road infrastructure and economic development.

Analysis of Smart Sign Board Design for Road Safety using IoT

Traffic congestion is a major issue, particularly in urban areas where the number of vehicles on the road is continuing to rise considerably, amidst the delayed construction of road infrastructure. Researchers developed a number of traffic management systems to address this intractable issue. Despite the fact that there have been several studies on traffic management, there hasn't been enough done to examine the overall system for managing traffic on urban roads. This study aims to close the knowledge gap by providing fresh information about the current status of research into the complete Traffic Management System. The main goal is to give a comprehensive overview of the current methods suggested in the literature to address the issue of traffic congestion. Moreover, this work provides some ideas by which the road safety management can be done with the help of cloud services. As mobile technology becomes more extensively used, an evaluation approach for such smart transportation innovation strategies is explored with the help of mobile app. Therefore, based on the current research perspective, this survey offers a useful perspective on the deployment of IoT in the smart traffic management system.

RASIONALITAS MASYARAKAT MENYERAHKAN TANAH DALAM PEMBANGUNAN INFRASTRUKTUR JALAN DI DESA TUNGGUL KECAMATAN PACIRAN KABUPATEN LAMONGAN

The village government of Tunggul does physical development which absolutely requires land. The handover of land in the construction of road infrastructure in the village of Tunggul has been carried out since 2007 until now. However, the process of handing over land cannot be separated from problems. The handover of land involved most of the ownership rights to the land from the residents concerned, while the need for land was increasing. This study aims to identify the objective social and economic conditions of the people who gave up the land, identify the process of handing over the land, and to analyze the rationality of the people who gave up the land. This study uses a qualitative approach with Max Weber's rationality perspective. The results of this study indicate that the socio-economic objective conditions of landowners who hand over land vary starting from education, social status, occupation, income and expenses, needs, and wealth. The process of handing over the land goes through several stages, namely planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The actions of landowners are divided into acts of instrumental rationality and value-oriented rationality actions. The act of instrumental rationality namely the land owner wants a new village road infrastructure and the land owner has the desire to sell his land (profit value). The action of rationality is value-oriented namely the land owner considers religious values ​​as a form of worship and the land owner does good deeds.

AbstractThis essay explores the road and the chain as material and ideological forms of logistical and infrastructural power. Focusing on threechain gang narratives, John L. Spivak's Hard Times on a Southern Chain Gang (1932), Elliot Burns's I Am a Fugitive from a Georgia Chain (1932), and its film adaptation, I Am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang! (1932), the essay shows how these white-authored stories imagine the extraction of Black male labor in the construction of road infrastructure in the early twentieth-century southern United States. The essay demonstrates how logistics—the art and science of moving goods, people, and information efficiently to maximize profit—inheres in the infrastructures it calls into being. It traces the history of the chain gang through the shackles used to immobilize enslaved people on the ship, in the coffle, and on plantations, contending that such iron implements are infrastructure that helped build the nation. Chain gangs similarly relied on the forced labor of Black men who were routinely rounded up, incarcerated, and set to work on roads that tantalized them with the freedom of mobility while punishing them with backbreaking labor and physical torture. Chain gangs were a logistical phenomenon, the supply of labor at the right time and right place to maximize profit for private capital, which obtained this free labor through its collusion with the state. In this case study, the logistical aspect of infrastructure articulates it not as a promise of the common good, but as a threat against the disenfranchised whose freedom was abridged to make it.

Evaluation Of Implementation Construction Safety Management Systems Of Toll Road Infrastructure Construction Project During Pandemic Covid-19 In Indonesia

The high level of development is directly proportional to the probability of accidents that may occur. In Indonesia, work accidents in the construction sector still often happened. Based on data from DataIndonesia.id, since 2017-2021 work accidents always increase every year, where in 2017 there were 123,040 accidents and in 2021 it reached 234,270 accidents with an average increase of 18% per year. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the construction safety management system for toll road infrastructure project refers to the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Regulation Number 10 of 2021 concerning Guidelines for Construction Safety Management Systems. This research applied a case study method-based with indepth interview and questionnaire techniques which were reviewed by descriptive analysis and statistical tests. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of the construction safety management system on the ABC Toll Road project is in the satisfactory category. There are several indicators whose implementation is not in accordance with the PUPR Ministerial Regulation Number 10 of 2021 due to the lack of insight or knowledge regarding the SMKK implementation program. The formulation of a recommendation strategy for improving the implementation of SMKK can be done by 1) Providing education, training, and/or counseling related to SMKK 2) Compiling SMKK documents in accordance with applicable regulations 3) Strengthening SMKK inspection programs and safety patrols 4) Documenting SMKK implementation activities 5) Procurement of activities such as safety morning talk and Toolbox meeting and procurement of facilities such as K2 information boards 6) Conduct safety meeting with MP regarding construction safety policies and explain to all project stakeholders 7) Provide awards or incentives if construction safety is achieved and 8) Conduct studies more in depth related to SMKK regulations.

Future Impact on Pakistan Economy in the 21st Century Shifting of Global Power

The Wakhan Corridor is surrounded by the concerned region of Mekandar. The access strip is located at the intersection of four countries, the mainland of Afghanistan, Tajikistan, China and Pakistan. The Wakhan Corridor has been the mainly vital intersection point of the Silk Road since its inception. This corridor has long been used by Europeans and Chinese as a trade path to reach the Indian plains and sea lines of communication in the Indian Ocean via the coasts of the Arabian Sea. At the joint of China, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan lies a small extend of land in Afghanistan's Badakhshan province known as the Wakhan Corridor. Being a passage of the old Silk Road, this corridor is of great historical value. It still has a lot of room for increase in terms of tourism and regional connectivity. Wakhan region is considered relatively peaceful as there is no law-and-order problem. Construction of the road through Wakhan will improve regional trade and business, especially for Pakistan, Central Asia and Afghanistan. It could provide the fastest trade route for China to access Afghanistan and Pakistan for access to Central Asia. In this context, the research explores the possibilities of revitalizing the Wakhan Corridor through the construction of road infrastructure. This paper highlights the economical importance of the Wakhan Corridor in the light of the emerging regional scenario. Both ISIS and the Pakistani Taliban are essential to disrupt the corridor and create security challenges for development. To benefit from future trade improvements along the Wakhan Corridor, the three countries (Pakistan, China and Tajikistan) should focus on the security and political situation.
