Towards the Uptake of Digital Technologies for Construction Information Management: A Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling Approach

The primary objective of this study survey is to close knowledge gaps by measuring the responses from construction experts and investigating the significant effects of using digital technologies in construction information management (CIM). This is attributed to the lack of thorough knowledge among construction professionals on the implications and efficacy of incorporating digital tools in construction information management. A thorough analysis of the literature on the use of digital technologies revealed outcomes related to digitized ways of managing construction information, which were then contextually tailored through a pilot study and presented in the form of a postulated model. A total of 257 stakeholders in the building industry were given questionnaire surveys to complete in order to gather primary data. The final model of the result of adopting digital technology was statistically validated using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). By concentrating on the quantitative contribution of the most important result to the adoption of digital technologies throughout the process of CIM, this study closes this knowledge gap. The three primary benefits that digital technologies have the most influence on are communication, operational efficiency, and market intelligence, according to this paper’s conclusions. The research showed that encouraging relationships that enable the use of digital technologies should be promoted between technology providers and construction companies. In order to adopt and improve digital solutions, construction firms and technology providers will be able to collaborate in an ecosystem. By shedding light on the implementation and impact of digital technologies in the construction sector, the study helps to close this knowledge gap. The study offers valuable information for upcoming initiatives that support digital transformation through construction methods. The results serve as instructions for the government authorities to help them focus their efforts and distribute their resources more effectively.

Advantages and Development Prospects of Building Information Modelling (BIM) Technology Application in Highway Engineering

Based on the advantages of the application of Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology in highway engineering, this paper analyzes the difficulties of its in-depth application, grasps the pain points of the application of BIM technology in practice, and approaches from the integration of BIM design-construction. This paper also puts forward the integration of cross-stage information based on the BIM + Geographic Information System (GIS) construction information management system to realize the BIM whole life cycle management, and provides directional support for the continuous and efficient application of BIM technology in engineering practice.

Comprehensive Calculation Method of Semantic Similarity of Transport Infrastructure Ontology Concept Based on SHO-BP Algorithm

Semantic information interaction plays an important role in transportation infrastructure modeling and management. To ensure semantic consistency during information exchange and data integration, ontology technology is commonly employed to measure the semantic relevance between concepts. Ontology semantic similarity accurately expresses relationships among various concepts in the domain, and when combined with Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology, it improves the efficiency of information transmission and management in construction. However, the complex structure, diverse components, and strong attribute diversity of transportation infrastructure pose challenges for analysis and computation, leading to limited precision in existing ontology semantic similarity methods. Aimed at these issues, this paper proposes a transport infrastructure ontology concept semantic similarity measurement model based on the Back Propagation (BP) neural network algorithm improved by the Spotted Hyena Optimizer (SHO-BP). Firstly, a semantic network for transportation infrastructure is established, and an ontology-based semantic similarity calculation model is constructed with three approaches, including Edge-Counting method, Feature-based method, and Information-Content method. Then, the SHO-BP algorithm is employed to comprehensively weight the three similarity measure approaches above. Finally, using bridge BIM models as examples, the semantic similarity of transportation infrastructure concepts involved in the BIM models are computed based on the weighted model derived from the aforementioned processes. The experiments demonstrate that the SHO-BP algorithm achieves a higher Pearson correlation coefficient than other algorithms for the comprehensive semantic similarity results in the field of transportation infrastructure. This improvement effectively enhances the accuracy of ontology semantic similarity calculation, and it is conducive to the sharing and integration of BIM information in different systems.

Qualitative Analysis of the Impact of Contracts on Information Management in AEC Projects

Project information management in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) projects can be a challenging endeavor due to the complex nature of projects and the numerous sources and types of information required, including drawings, plans, specifications, and building information modeling (BIM), among others. AEC projects require stakeholders to develop temporary teams, develop work processes, and collaborate across organizational boundaries. Additionally, the numerous technologies used in information management, such as project management software, scheduling software, and BIM, require contractual agreements among project stakeholders to address these technologies’ potential risks while still allowing stakeholder collaboration to benefit project execution and delivery. Contracts are used to define project requirements and can be used to define different aspects of project information management, like required deliverables or stakeholder roles and responsibilities. While recent research has evaluated the relationship between BIM and contracts, there is a gap in understanding the relationship between contracts and information management more holistically. The objectives of this research were to gain insight into how contracts impact information management, identify barriers that exist in contracts related to information management, and to develop potential contract-related strategies to improve information management on AEC projects. Researchers implemented a qualitative analysis approach through semistructured interviews with 38 AEC professionals and the application of a systematic and iterative qualitative coding process. This research found that contracts can be used as a tool to influence the development and execution of project information management strategies. Specifically, contracts can be used to define deliverables, workflows, and software, as well as templates and forms. While interviewees discussed many contract-related challenges, they also proposed potential contract-related strategies to improve project information management. These strategies encompass three main categories: improving contract compliance, contract flexibility, and setting expectations. These findings provide insight into how contracts can impact project information management and provide practitioners with specific contract strategies to improve project information management.

Challenges confronting construction information management

This paper aims to present the results of an investigation of the prevailing challenges in construction information management. The study implemented a quantitative survey methodology, using a questionnaire to gather data from architects, civil engineers, quantity surveyors, mechanical and electrical engineers, construction managers, and project managers. Data analysis was conducted using the SPSS software package: applicable measures of dispersal were computed and inferential statistical tests performed. The study revealed that information management is a significant aspect of construction procedures and that a well-structured information system must be in place to achieve success in the construction domain. Additionally, the researchers discovered that construction information management could be affected by both internal and external factors within an organization. Further findings revealed that the major challenges in construction information management are long-term reliance on legacy systems, a lack of technological equipment, leadership development, poor financial investment in infrastructure for data management, and the implementation of appropriate policies by management. The primary contribution of this study lies in its appraisal of the difficulties facing construction information management and its identification of the relevant challenges, which can help in the proposal of solutions to improve methods of managing construction information, in turn producing improved performance and more efficient delivery of services on the part of professionals within the construction industry.

This paper mainly focuses on social applications as the object to carry out research. This paper is dedicated to optimizing the user experience and social experience of mobile social products, optimizing the design strategies of each process of social products, and exploring the possibility and development direction of social products in the future. Firstly, it conducts in-depth research on the related theories of human social behavior based on the social relationship graph and summarizes the factors that affect the intimacy between nodes in the social relationship graph. Then, it discusses the role of these factors in designing social products and studies how to apply these factors to all aspects of product development. Then, this design method using intimacy factor is abstracted and summarized into a design model, which is convenient for product developers to understand and use. Finally, the practice shows that the mobile social design method based on the social relationship graph can effectively guide the design of mobile social products and provide users with an intimate and efficient social experience that can meet the social needs of users. The accuracy rate is effectively improved by 21%, which proves the value and prospect of the research, design, and development of this topic in the field of mobile social products.

Construction Information Management: Benefits to the Construction Industry

This paper aimed to unveil the outcome of an appraisal of the systematic approach to construction information management. This was performed with a view of creating awareness of how information management can be beneficial through the management of the large chunk of information emanating from construction processes. This will improve the gathering, sharing, and storage of information for construction activities. The study implemented a quantitative survey approach with the aid of a questionnaire as the mechanism for data gathering from architects, civil engineers, quantity surveyors, mechanical and electrical engineers, construction managers, and project managers. Data analysis ensued with the aid of SPSS in which applicable measure of dispersal and inferential statistics were implemented. The study unveiled that information management is a major aspect of the construction procedure, and that, to achieve in construction, there must be a well-structured information system. Further findings revealed that the benefits of information management include the firm’s growth, organizational performance, enhanced market value, employee’s motivation, and quality service. The prowess of this study depends on the appraisal of the benefits of systematic management of construction information and how identification of the benefits can help to motivate construction companies.

Hybrid Analytic Hierarchy Process–Artificial Neural Network Model for Predicting the Major Risks and Quality of Taiwanese Construction Projects

Construction projects are associated with risks, which influence projects’ performance and quality. To ensure the on-time completion of construction projects, project managers often use risk assessment and management methods to reduce risks in the project life cycle. Identifying risk factors and the relationship between major risk factors and the quality of construction projects facilitates construction management. In this study, 948 project records of construction inspection from 1993 to 2020 were collected from the Public Construction Management Information System (PCMIS) of the Taiwan central government to conduct an expert survey to identify five risk dimensions and 19 major risk factors associated with Taiwanese construction projects. The hybrid analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and an artificial neural network (ANN) were employed to develop a model for predicting major risk factors and construction quality. The AHP was used to calculate the weight of major risk factors to verify their influence on construction. The ANN was adopted to extract the features of major risk factors to predict the quality of a construction project. The accuracy of the prediction model was 85%. The project managers can reference the prediction results obtained with the proposed method to perform effective risk management and devise decision-making strategies for construction management.

Field Applicability of Earthwork Volume Calculations Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

The earthwork volume must be calculated as accurately as possible for economical construction and cost savings. In particular, when calculating the areas and volumes of irregular curved terrains such as mountains, reservoirs, lakes, and coasts, the vertical assumptions for the boundary equation must be rationally and systematically established. This study focuses on earthwork volume calculation technology using UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle). UAV can be used for various types of work, including checking the progress of construction at construction sites and calculating the earthwork volume for large areas. However, earthwork volume calculation technology using UAV is inefficient in terms of information production, management, and reuse because the quantitative guidelines for UAV operations are insufficient, and the output quality, analysis method, and analysis results differ. To solve these problems, the authors investigated an earthwork volume calculation method for construction sites that use UAV to automate the on-site calculation of construction errors and support an on-site monitoring system using building information modeling (BIM). To calculate the earthwork volume of the target site, a chain method with a planned plane map based on the average end-area method was used as a representative earthwork volume calculation method. The digital surface model method was applied to review the optimization of the earthwork volume calculation using UAV. This study is a process of analyzing construction data, and aims to strengthen the linkage of 3D data and provide construction management information specialized in excavation work. Through this earthwork analysis using UAV, it is possible to intuitively review the progress of earthwork in 3D by linking the current site with the planned plane.

Coding structure of highway engineering information model

Model identification code is the key to the data integration and effective transmission of highway engineering information model from the early stage of design to project construction and operation management, so as to form structured data for integrated management and analysis. By studying the existing information model classification and coding system, this paper analyzes the application and existing problems of various information model identification and code breakdown structures such as engineering system breakdown structure coding, space and classification coding, and work breakdown structure coding, comprehensively considers the different needs of construction management, measurement and payment, file management and big data utilization, and puts forward a "five-grade" highway engineering information model with location and version based on ISO 12006-2 framework, covering projects, construction sites, components, classification and coding framework. This model has been applied in the actual engineering construction management information system. The association and data transmission between construction management information and models are effectively realized through the application of model identification coding, which provides a basis for data sharing and exchange between information systems.

This report gives a short introduction about Clash detection in BIM and it focus the methodology involved conducting clash detection analysis using building information modeling. This work involves searching for, how this clash detection tool helps to optimize of clashes in construction of particular building using BIM Coordination. The methodology involved in this report will be study of a G+3 residential building which consist of an architectural, structural and Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) BIM models and their subsequent clash detection analysis is done in this study, commercial software like as Autodesk Revit 2021, Autodesk Navisworks Manage 2022 are used. It also focuses on the methods of simplifying and standardizing the method of Clash Detection using Autodesk Navisworks. The Practical Research of Computer Technology in Educational Management Information Construction

IFC-Based 4D Construction Management Information Model of Prefabricated Buildings and Its Application in Graph Database

Effective data interoperability and schedule analysis play a significant role in improving the management of prefabricated buildings. However, there is a lack of efficient strategies and comprehensive approaches for data interoperability and data-based automated schedule analysis. This paper intends to promote prefabricated buildings’ management by solving these two problems via developing an IFC-based framework consisting of three parts. Firstly, this framework proposed a mechanism to establish an IFC-based 4D construction management information model of prefabricated buildings. Furthermore, a non-relational database—graph database—is introduced to twin this model into a task-centered network to realize the interoperation of construction information among different participants. Finally, graph database-based strategies to update data, automatically analyze construction schedules and visualize the 4D construction management information model are described. The proposed framework is validated in a prefabricated engineering case. In this case, an IFC-based and graph database-based 4D construction management information model is established through IFC standard’s extension. The graph database-based analysis of the model automatically recognizes the engineering case’s critical path information, delay analysis information, and schedule network analysis information. It is illustrated that this framework can successfully establish a unified IFC-based information model of prefabricated buildings’ construction management to prompt effective data interoperability. In addition, the application of this IFC-based information model in graph database can automatically analyze the construction schedules to prevent possible delays in advance. In short, the significance of this paper is to innovatively propose an IFC-based and graph data-based information model to solve the difficulties of ineffective data interoperation and unautomated schedule analysis in prefabricated buildings’ construction management. This study can be the digital foundation of further IFC-based digital twin.

Bill of Material and Labour Template for Construction Information Management

Abstract Information and Communication Technology advancement has made the method of practice across different industries and businesses record fundamental changes in various dimensions and levels. The construction industry is determined to measure up with other industries in this and has since embraced the use of computer software to perform most, if not all of its activities. It is generally known that this software is not cheap and they require special skill to use. This research study is aimed at developing a computerised template for material and labour schedules for some selected items of work in construction using Microsoft Excel. This is an inexpensive way of estimating to save cost while eliminating the traditional method. The study adopted a mixed research method that involved observation of labourers on-site and validation through a questionnaire survey. The personal observation was carried out and labour outputs were recorded which was used together with material constants in developing the bill of material and labour template. The template was validated by practising Quantity Surveyors for ongoing projects and an average of 92% accuracy was recorded. It was concluded that the template can enhance the accuracy of Quantity Surveyors’ estimate of materials and labour for construction projects.

Educational Management Information Construction and Management Analysis in the Big Data Era

Informatization teaching of education management (EM) has gradually led to innovation, independence, and irreplaceability of university teaching as a whole. With the continuous development and continuous promotion of education informatization, it is of great significance to the overall school running level of various universities. This article takes the informatization construction and management of EM in 50 colleges and universities(CAU) as the main research body, and conducts informatization teaching environment, informatization education mode, informatization education content, informatization EM system, informatization student management, and network security system. The establishment and implementation of the literature research method was used to collect the concepts, contents and methods of the related issues of the EM information construction; the questionnaire survey method was used for statistical analysis of 96 valid questionnaires from 50 universities; the analysis of several examples was used Use SSPS 20 statistical software to process the relevant data of the valid questionnaire; use the interview method to collect information through interviews with the leaders of the school's information management department, teachers and students. The research results show that CAU with a multimedia classroom configuration rate of 100% are beneficial to the improvement of students' learning task completion rate. Micro-class and MOOC teaching have high-quality resources and popular trends can improve the teaching effect of CAU. Informatization of EM is conducive to the improvement of teachers' teaching tasks and the completion rate of students' learning tasks in CAU, and can promote the educational development of CAU.

DESIGN STUDENTS VIEWPOINT ON BIM: A PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT OF THE INDICATORS

Abstract. Building Information Modelling (BIM) has been the most popular Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) technology and information management approach for the last 5 years. The popularity of the approach not only comes from its role in enabling an efficient exchange of information and collaboration between the stakeholders of a construction project, but also is related with the benefits it has provided in detecting possible errors in the design phase, and providing means for the elimination of these errors as early as possible and thus minimizing the time and financial loss in the project. The training related to BIM is provided in the undergraduate and post-graduate levels, also with certification programs. The viewpoint of the students/trainees is closely related to their attitude towards BIM. The research explained in this paper aimed to identify the viewpoint of design school students on Building Information Modelling. The study started with a literature review on the foundational concepts regarding BIM. The second stage of the study included data collection with a questionnaire survey. Later this data is explored through descriptive statistics, and some foundational hypothesis on the impact of group differences on the BIM viewpoint were tested. The findings indicate that the viewpoint of design school students shows a positive tendency towards using and implementing BIM in real-life projects. Besides, the group differences (such as gender, level, department) do not appear to have an impact on the viewpoint.
