Analysis of Factors affecting Construction Project Tender Winning in Small Qualification Contractors

Finding employment in the construction sector almost always involves a tender process, which is essential for the construction entrepreneurs because the company's continuity depends on it. Tender qualifications and requirements must fulfill several stages, namely the administrative, qualification, technical, and price evaluation. The purpose of this research is to predict the relationship between certain variables. The Partial Least Square (PLS) method is deployed since it can directly analyze the latent variables, indicator variables, and measurement errors and determine the complexity of the relationship between several variables and their indicators. Eight main factors were successfully obtained: Regulations, Company Qualifications, Administration, Equipment Resources, Human Resources, Construction Safety Plan, Financial, and Technology and Information Systems. Using the SEM-PLS also resulted in estimating the significance value of the factors influencing the highest tender winner determinants: Human Resources obtained a value of 84.5% and the Financial variable attained a value of 82.3%. This research is expected to assist contractors in getting acquainted with the level of significance of the tender winners’ determinants for the construction projects. Contractors can also prepare and improve the Human Resources factor by conducting advanced training, certification, and competency development that supports its technical capabilities. Contractors need to obtain a deep understanding of the tender requirements, and with a high experience level they can make more appropriate and competitive offers.

Концептуален модел на уеб базирана платформа за оценка на предприемаческите рискове при инвестиционни проекти

The aim of the author of the article is to present a conceptual model of a web-based platform designed for assessing entrepreneurial risks in the implementation of residential construction investment projects in Bulgaria. In the context of increasing competition in the construction sector, the successful management of entrepreneurial risks is crucial for achieving sustainable success in projects.The study includes a detailed analysis of existing online resources for assessing entrepreneurial risks, an examination of user needs and preferences, as well as the development of detailed functional specifications for the platform. As a result, an innovative web-based platform has been developed to facilitate the assessment of entrepreneurial risks.The platform features an interactive calculator for assessing entrepreneurial risks and provides access to advice, guidelines, and other resources for effective risk assessment and management.The combination of these functionalities supports construction entrepreneurs in managing entrepreneurial risks, contributing to the successful implementation of residential construction investment projects and promoting sustainable development in the sector.

Creating a Practical Transdisciplinary Learning in Teaching Construction Entrepreneurship

Abstract : Construction Entrepreneurship is a unique subject taught in the Construction Engineering and Management program at the Universitas Agung Podomoro in Indonesia. As a new course, it is necessary to develop an effective and efficient teaching syllabus. This study describes construction entrepreneurship teaching through a transdisciplinary learning approach as an effective way to develop its syllabus. The transdisciplinary learning approach was chosen to provide insights into real-world problems to students through collaborative learning with industry speakers. Six construction entrepreneurs were invited to share their experiences in starting a construction business, followed by two reflective discussion forums to explore lessons learned from the sharing sessions. At the end of the term, online surveys were distributed to seek feedback from the enrolled students on the design, methods, and benefits of learning construction entrepreneurship. In addition, the survey was also intended to gather perspectives on the relevance and significance of this subject from construction students who had never taken it before. Overall, the approach to teaching construction entrepreneurship to enrolled students was found to be effective. The statistics also reveal the high interest of students from other construction-related programs in taking this subject. Evaluating Demographic Profiles and Competency Levels of Local Builders in Residential Construction

Abstract This research has investigated and evaluated the demographic profile and competency levels of local builders involved in residential building construction sites at Nawalparasi East, Gandaki province, Nepal. The construction industry is a cornerstone of Nepal’s economic development. The reliability and quality of construction heavily depend on the local builder’s capability to execute the work on the basis of technical and skills proficiency. This study aims to ascertain the status of local builders regarding their competency levels and their construction work profiles on the basis of work experience. The research employs a questionnaire approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. A field survey is administered to local builders to evaluate their demographic profiles, technical skills and knowledge as well as their construction site experiences. The findings of this study reveal what local builders are good at and where they need to improve in residential construction. The results of this research are meant to help construction entrepreneurs, industry players, and local-level authorities come up with plans to boost the local builders and categories them as per their ability and strength. The outcome of the alternate hypothesis indicates that, concerning local builders, there is substantial evidence suggesting that at least one characteristic significantly varies from the others.

Empire of Portland Cement, Concrete Blocks, and Specialty Shingles

Abstract The article examines the close collaboration between Protestant missionaries and expatriate American construction entrepreneurs in the early 1900s in Puerto Rico. The construction work done by the Czech American architect Antonin Nechodoma (1877–1928), the builder Frank Bond Hatch (1871–1925), and Protestant missionaries represent an instance of this collaboration, which led to the adoption of Portland cement products in the construction of church buildings (Beatriz del Cueto, 2016). Nechodoma’s contribution to the development of a religious architectural language on behalf of Protestant missionaries has been largely neglected. While Nechodoma’s figure has gathered popular attention of late, the aim of this article is to situate changes in the design and construction of ecclesiastic structures associated with Methodism within the larger context of American imperialist expansionism and political change in Puerto Rico. Examined collectively, the new religious buildings of the period 1898–c. 1927 reveal the implantation of a new religious colonialist architectural aesthetic.

Moderating effect of Nigerian government policy support on the relationship between project management framework and emerging construction contractors' sustainability

PurposeIn most developing countries, indigenous emerging construction contractors (ECCs) face severe problems of not adopting a project management framework (PMF) in their business activities. It has increased their business risk and threatened their sustainability. Studies showed that government policy support (GPS) helps mitigate business risks. Thus, there is a paucity of literature concerning GPS on emerging Nigerian construction contractors' business sustainability. Therefore, the paper aims to investigate the moderating effect of GPS on the relationship between PMF and ECCs in Nigeria.Design/methodology/approachSmartPLS was used to analyse the collected data from the useable 310 questionnaires retrieved from respondents in Abuja and Lagos, Nigeria. Systems Theory was used to support the developed framework.FindingsFindings show that government policy support significantly moderates the relationships between PMF and ECCs in the Nigerian construction sector. It implies that the study's results offer more understanding regarding issues affecting construction entrepreneurs' sustainable business cycle via applying PMF to mitigate business sustainable associated risks.Practical implicationsThe study will stir Nigeria's ECCs and policymakers to promote construction business sustainability for a new entrepreneur, emphasising business risk management via PMF and GPS to enhance the sustainable business cycle.Originality/valueThe research (PMF and GPS) is strategies to enhance ECCs business sustainability in the Nigerian construction sector and other developing countries with similar political and economic attributes. Besides the study guiding old and intending ECCs and policymakers in the developing countries industries, it would contribute to bridge the theoretical gap regarding PMF and ECC, especially ECCs in developing countries with similar business sustainability issues.

Artisans’ chase for urban space. Clusters of construction entrepreneurs in Brussels, c. 1830–1930

AbstractIn contrast to the well-studied shopkeepers, little empirical evidence exists on the locational patterns of artisans in transforming urban spaces. By GIS mapping a dataset on Brussels construction entrepreneurs (c. 1830–1930), long-term changes in their patterns of spatial clustering and dispersal become clear, showing which urban areas provided advantageous conditions for artisans to thrive, but also how and when these conditions subsided. While confirming earlier observations of a broad scattering of artisans throughout the city, the analysis also shows how remarkable clusters emerged in cheap, densely built, both central and suburban neighbourhoods. The importance of clustering decreased over time, however. Confronting locational patterns with their potential underlying causes shows that planning policies for the renewal of urban infrastructure and the resulting dynamics on the real estate market acted as the first drivers of urban de-industrialization, affecting the displacement of artisans from inner cities since at least the late nineteenth century.

FACTORS AFFECTING SAFETY BEHAVIOR AT CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES IN BATAM

The relatively high number of work accidents in the construction sector in Indonesia causes a lot of losses both material and non-material to workers, construction entrepreneurs and the country's image. This encourages us to investigate further what factors influence the safety behavior of workers in construction activities.
 This research was applied with a survey method, namely by distributing questionaires to 105 respondents. The questionnaire questions were compiled through a review of previous journals that analyzed the factors that influence worker safety behavior. The respondents sampled were Occupational Safety and Health Officer (AK3). The technique used by the researcher is purposive sampling, which is a technique to determine the sample by using a special selection method so that the sample can be properly used for processing. The authors tested the data using SPSS software with a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) approach. 
 The results of this study lead to the conclusion that the assumptions used as a references are indeed proven to contribute to work safety behavior in construction activities. Leadership and work pressure factors both together as the dominant factors affecting worker safety behavior in construction activities in Batam are followed by the influence of co-workers, training, and company management commitment in sequence as factors contributed. Limited resources in construction activities trigger whether work safety behavior is implemented or neglected. This of course affects the performance of construction activities which leads to a commitment to completion of construction work and the objectives of the company organization in general.

Analisis Kode Etik Akuntan Dalam Penyajian Laporan Keuangan PT XYZ

As one of the important pillars of the business sector is profession must have a high moral commitment and usually all of this is stated in the form of special rules that serve as guidelines for everyone who develops the profession concerned. The object of this research is the ethics of the accountant profession in the presentation of financial statements at PT XYZ which is company engaged in the construction sector. There are several problems faced by construction entrepreneurs during the current pandemic, such as intense business competition between entrepreneurs, presentation of financial statements that must be in accordance with the target of shareholders both internal and external to the company, to unstable sales results that sometimes go up and down. , and besides that there are many internal and external factors that can affect the company's profit. From these problems, this construction company also involved manipulation of financial statements by PT XYZ. Therefore, it is necessary to have ethics and strategies in the accounting profession that will be the right solution to overcome these problems that arise. This study uses descriptive qualitative research methods. The method used is descriptive qualitative approach with data analysis techniques, then this research results in the formulation of an effective and efficient professional ethics strategy to develop business in this construction sector. The alternative strategy formulated is the ethics of accountants in the presentation of financial statements that are appropriate and in accordance with the regulations currently in force.

Peningkatan Kemampuan Administrasi Tender Pengadaan Barang/Jasa Pemerintah di Bidang Jasa Konstruksi

The purpose of this community service is to improve the ability to hold tenders for goods/ service providers in the construction service sector. The Association of National Construction Entrepreneurs (Gapensi) Semarang City as a community service partner is 348 people divided into 7 classifications. Some of the reasons for goods and service providers who are members of Gapensi fail to win tenders are 1) a lack of understanding of the development of existing regulations related to the procurement of goods/ services that often change; 2) administrative errors in completing the auction for the procurement of goods and services; 3) Providers of goods/ services are usually left to one administrative person so that the owner of the business entity never knows the procedure or mechanism and completeness of the procurement of government goods/ services. The method used in this service is the socialization of the latest procurement of goods/ services and training in the governance of government procurement of goods/ services. The result of this service is that Gapensi members know the good governance of government procurement of goods and services and are able to practice in tenders .

Auge inmobiliario y valorización diferencial del suelo urbano en la ciudad de Tandil (Argentina), en el período postconvertibilidad

El siguiente trabajo se propone analizar los procesos sociales que generaron un importante dinamismo de la actividad inmobiliaria y los cambios residenciales que ocurrieron a escala intra-urbana en la ciudad de Tandil, en los años que siguieron a la crisis que finalizó con el modelo económico de la convertibilidad. Para contribuir a este objetivo también se realizó un estudio de la evolución de los precios del suelo urbano a lo largo de este período y se consideraron las modificaciones registradas en el régimen de tenencia de las viviendas. Para ello se adoptó una metodología en la cual se combinaron datos provenientes de fuentes de información secundaria, entrevistas realizadas a informantes clave (martilleros y empresarios constructores de la ciudad) y un relevamiento de precios del suelo urbano confeccionado mediante la búsqueda de avisos clasificados en un periódico local.

Business Climate Factors Affecting Economic Growth of Small Scale Construpreneurs in Nigeria

Small scale businesses are at the heart of achieving sustainable economic growth in most nations. However, the peculiar environmental challenges faced by this sector has not taken forefront in order to increase their committed participation. Consequently, the study examined the business climate factors affecting economic growth of small scale construpreneurs (SSCs). The study engaged a survey research technique of 80 construpreneurs using a quota-purposive sampling method in Lagos and Ogun State; major economic hubs in Nigeria, through a questionnaire instrument. The data was analyzed using SPSS through principal factor analysis to elicit the crucial business climate factors affecting economic growth of SSCs. The result revealed three main categories of business climate factors which are Finance, Job Availability and Weak Policies as major business climate factors affecting the economic growth of small scale construpreneurs. The study made strategic recommendations for impactful growth of small scale construction entrepreneurs.

Establishing the project portfolio management in the construction company

The principal production activity of construction companies is centralised on the investment and construction projects executed on various construction sites. In the pursuit of using the potential accumulated in the means of production, construction companies start to manage a number of projects implemented concurrently. Therefore, a project portfolio is a key challenge for the strategic management of modern construction companies. There is a way to deal with the multi-project phenomenon called the project portfolio management. At this level, specific features of construction production have to be taken into account. An efficient selection of the project portfolio, treated as the project portfolio management maturity, allows reducing the risk associated with investing in projects, by creating a combination of expenses on a number of projects. The strategies accepted by an organisation determine the project portfolio to the implementation according to some specific requirements (scope, deadlines, cost, quality). Disruptions of meeting these requirements generate the risk associated with concrete projects, and the configuration of the project portfolio, i.e. a number of projects implemented parallelly, their distribution in time and space, produces the risk connected with resources vital to the project execution. Results of a survey conducted among 100 Polish construction entrepreneurs, regarding the problems of establishing the project portfolio management, were presented. Majority of respondents indicated a profit margin as the most important factor in the selection of the project. A number of projects executed in one year, in individual groups of the surveyed enterprises, varies. Large companies usually execute up to 5 projects at the same time. In turn, small and micro-sized enterprises are mostly involved in 6-20 projects in one year. The research revealed that the most frequently indicated criterion for selecting the project portfolio in the construction industry is the availability of workforce. Subsequently, the availability of materials and equipment were indicated in the second and third place. All factors of production, i.e. human resources, materials, equipment as well as financial resources, become sources of the risk in projects, as it comes to a chance to obtain or substitute them. The summary includes a conclusion of the considerations, containing a specification of criteria for selecting the project portfolio in a construction company.

SITUAÇÃO DA GESTÃO DE RESÍDUOS DA CONSTRUÇÃO CIVIL: ESTUDO DE CASO DE CAPÃO DA CANOA, RIO GRANDE DO SUL

A indústria da construção civil é responsável por impactos ambientais, sociais e econômicos consideráveis, pois possui uma posição de destaque na economia brasileira. A Resolução CONAMA 307 classifica os resíduos da construção civil como classe A (inertes), B (recicláveis), C (não recicláveis) e D (perigosos). O trabalho foi realizado no município de Capão da Canoa/RS, dispondo sobre a análise dos planos de gerenciamento de resíduos de construção e demolição, avaliação da percepção ambiental dos geradores e identificação de potenciais problemas quanto ao gerenciamento e cumprimento da legislação vigente. Os resíduos classe A são os mais gerados, os resíduos classe C estão sendo destinados incorretamente e carece-se de alternativas locais para a reciclagem de gesso. Os empreendedores da construção civil apresentaram consciência quanto as formas de classificação e disposição desses resíduos. A redução da geração de resíduos na fonte e a substituição de matérias primas por outras mais rentáveis são uma boa alternativa.

Hierarchical model of factors of ecological maturity of construction enterprises

A construction project shapes the natural environment of human beings throughout its life cycle. Therefore, problems related to the ecological quality of the applied solutions require special interest. A method of solving these problems can be directly related to stakeholders involved in the projects. The role of a construction company in the context of decision making problems, and in particular its ecological responsibility, has become one of the fundamental elements of the genesis of this research. Linking ecological maturity of the stakeholders participating in the implementation of construction projects, and taking into account the environment friendly approach, related to the scarce resource management and the possibility of reducing their environmental impact, became the main goal of the article. The detailed objectives of the conducted research can be connected with promoting eco-friendly strategies among construction companies and increasing the awareness of construction entrepreneurs about the current EU requirements regarding the environmental issues of business. There is also a need for building ecological maturity of construction companies. Research conducted among the management staff of construction companies allowed to specify some factors of the ecological maturity in construction enterprise (EMCE) and their priorities.

Risk Management in Construction Project: Taking Sustainability into Account

One pillar of the European Union’s policy is the environmental policy, which indicates, among other things, a need for taking into account ecological conditions and effects in all types of economic activity. The construction industry is exposed to conflicts between processes and the natural environment. Taking into account the sustainable development in construction projects requires an inclusion of environmental problems in the scope of project risk management. Risk management in construction projects is considered as a very important process supporting the achievement of project goals in terms of time, cost, quality, safety and stainability issues. The aim of the article is to pay particular attention to the latter aspect. Project risk management is effective when it is implemented in a systematic manner throughout the life cycle of the construction project. The article indicates that the specific features of construction activity have a significant impact on shaping the nature of construction investment projects. Their executions are connected with deep and long-lasting interference in the natural environment, and they are burdensome for the environment, both in the construction phase, as well as during their maintenance and liquidation phase. It requires the consumption of significant amount of material resources and the involvement of a number of specialists and institutions making decisions in succeeding phases of the life cycle of erected structures. Therefore, these projects have many stakeholders - interested, to a different extent, in the particular stages of the project. The results of the survey carried out among construction entrepreneurs at the turn of 2015-2016 about the fuel and energy consumption in the logistics processes of construction projects are presented. This provides a basis for answering a research question about how seriously entrepreneurs treat sustainability problems. Risks related to sustainable development are indicated on the map of risks in the construction project. It is emphasized that construction works should be executed with the use of such energy-saving technical solutions that enable for minimising a use of natural resources in the construction and maintenance phases, and in the final stage will allow easy liquidation of the structure.

Bid-rigging networks and state-corporate crime in the construction industry

This study highlights the symbiotic relationship that may arise between political and business actors in conspiracies organized around public construction bids. Based on a core-periphery social network analysis, the study tracks the emergence of such a conspiracy in the city of Laval (Canada) by illustrating the evolution of bid-rigging networks revolving around suspected and persistent acts of corruption, bid-rigging, and bribery. To assess this process, the study monitors irregular bidding indicators across a data set compiled from more than 7000 public construction tenders that were processed by the city from 1966 to 2013. Findings reveal that firms suspected of bid-rigging activities were perennial core participants largely as a result of a state-corporate crime system that served as the guiding force for agreements between the main construction entrepreneurs.

Main Determinations of Female Entrepreneurs in the Construction Industry in Malaysia

This paper explores the determination of female entrepreneurs in the construction industry based on masculine and feminine characteristics in the Malaysian construction industry, using the Bem Sex-Role Inventory (BSRI). The median split method determined that female construction entrepreneurs have masculine traits. The results are not robust because of the limited number of responses; nonetheless, the findings can be used as a platform for future research on female construction entrepreneurs in the construction industry in Malaysia. To enhance the findings' contributions, this paper also discusses the industry characteristics, which are considered to have significantly contributed to the masculinity of female construction entrepreneurs.

An Empirical Analysis of Risks, Involved in Marketing of Civil Engineering Products

This research paper is an effort to highlight prominent key risks which are involved in marketing of civil engineering products. Construction moguls hire the services of third party to market and sale the engineering products but they are not fully experts in construction affairs. A framework of marketing risks has been devised to help the third party personnel during sales of completed or under process civil projects. These risks have been evaluated by the sales managers and site engineers through survey process. Last three decades have witnessed the Chinese economy growing at very rapid rate especially for massive construction developments. Rapid developments in building designs, customers ever changing demands, state policies and geographical locations have made the marketing strategies risk prone in China. Marketing concept was introduced during 60s to get the cmpettive advanteges by business moguls. His concepts caused a paradigm shift in business concept to suggests that business should satisfy their customers needs which are the heart of business. Customers loyalty and satisfaction were put at first in priority. The results indicate that the key risks as: economic slowdown, price inflation, liquidity risks, capital risks, competition, interest rates, land acquisitions, payment risks, investors changes, inaccurate cost estimation, design variations, administrative issues, poor competency of third party, non-familiarity with construction affairs, poor safety measures, political stability, law and order situation and problems for approval and permission process cause to push construction entrepreneurs towards complex scenarios. These results have been extracted on the basis of research survey. 313 paper base and online questionnaires were sent to solicit responses from sales professionals and site engineers during survey. Overall, 113 responses were collected during research survey. Responses were scaled on 5-likert scale. Data has been analyzed using SPSS software.
