The Social Construction of Organizational Communication Through Extension in The Mitigation Model of The Consultation on Village Development in Indonesia

Purpose: Understanding the social construction of organisational communication and deliberation is crucial to mitigating village development deliberation in Indonesia. Discrepancies in the outcomes of development deliberation from village to sub-district to district have implications for changes in the quality and quantity of development projects, which may not conform to the rules and policies set by the head village. Methods: This study employs a constructive approach and a normative qualitative method to examine village development. Primary and secondary materials, as well as legal norms, are used to collect data. The data is collected through literature review, observation, interviews, and narrative analysis based on inductive syllogism. Results and Conclusion: Organizational communication is crucial for the sustainability of development. Counseling on the concept of village development can help achieve this. The village head's policy implementation needs improvement in terms of quality and motivation. It is important to adhere to legal norms for village development. Research implications: This research examines the norms of sustainable rural development in Indonesia, providing knowledge, understanding, and skills to all parties involved. It identifies areas for improvement in the planning and implementation of development budgets to ensure quality and transparent development. Originality/value: Analyze the importance of integrating the village development budget plan with existing regulations with the social demands of the community to ensure the immediate realization of certainty and stability of development quality to lead to a special development sector in the rural economic sector that encourages economic growth of the village community.

Laissez-faire leadership, trust in subordinates and problem-solving conflict management: A multigroup analysis across family and non-family businesses

Laissez faire leadership (LFL) has been linked to non-constructive approaches to conflict management, yet if and how LFL can explain the use of more constructive approaches (e.g., problem-solving) has not been studied. This is surprising given that trust in subordinates is characteristic of LFL, which is also key to cooperative relationships where the use of problem-solving is involved. Furthermore, compared to non-family businesses (NFBs), the socioemotional wealth that governs family businesses' (FBs) decision-making should make LFL, the trust placed in subordinates and the use of problem-solving more likely among the latter. In this study, we compare the use of LFL in FBs versus NFBs and analyze whether trust in subordinates lies behind a positive link between LFL and the use of this approach, and whether the distinctive socioemotional wealth of FBs accounts for differences in this relationship. Using a sample of 326 general managers of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ecuador, two complementary methods, partial least squares (PLS) and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fs/QCA), yielded robust findings. As expected, differences in the strength of this relationship were found across FBs and NFBs, with LFL and both affective and cognitive trust being critical for the use of problem-solving in FBs but with cognitive trust playing this principal role in NFBs. Our findings link the largely separate FB literature on leadership and conflict management.

Bio-QSARs 2.0: Unlocking a new level of predictive power for machine learning-based ecotoxicity predictions by exploiting chemical and biological information

Practical, legal, and ethical reasons necessitate the development of methods to replace animal experiments. Computational techniques to acquire information that traditionally relied on animal testing are considered a crucial pillar among these so-called new approach methodologies. In this light, we recently introduced the Bio-QSAR concept for multispecies aquatic toxicity regression tasks. These machine learning models, trained on both chemical and biological information, are capable of both cross-chemical and cross-species predictions. Here, we significantly extend these models’ applicability. This was realized by increasing the quantity of training data by a factor of approximately 20, accomplished by considering both additional chemicals and aquatic organisms. Additionally, variable test durations and associated random effects were accommodated by employing a machine learning algorithm that combines tree-boosting with mixed-effects modeling (i.e., Gaussian Process Boosting). We also explored various biological descriptors including Dynamic Energy Budget model parameters, taxonomic distances, as well as genus-specific traits and investigated the inclusion of mode-of-action information. Through these efforts, we developed Bio-QSARs for fish and aquatic invertebrates with exceptional predictive power (R squared of up to 0.92 on independent test sets). Moreover, we made considerable strides to make models applicable for a range of use cases in environmental risk assessment as well as research and development of chemicals. Models were made fully explainable by implementing an algorithmic multicollinearity correction combined with SHapley Additive exPlanations. Furthermore, we devised novel approaches for applicability domain construction that take feature importance into account. We are hence confident these models, which are available via open access, will make a significant contribution towards the implementation of new approach methodologies and ultimately have the potential to support “Green Chemistry” and “Green Toxicology”.

Copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidative dehydrogenative cyclization to construct polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

The copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidative dehydrogenative cyclization of benzo[b]thiophene represents an efficient approach for the rapid construction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) containing benzo[b]thiophene groups. However, this remains an underexplored field. Here, we establish a new type of copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidative dehydrogenative cyclization of benzo[b]thiophene that enables the utilization of benzo[b]thiophene functionality to access polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. This methodology features mild reaction conditions, high atom economy, and remarkable chemo-selectivity, delivering a diversity of PAHs containing benzo[b]thiophene groups. Mechanistic experiments and DFT calculations demonstrate that the in situ generation of benzothiophenyl radical cation intermediate undergoes the intermolecular cyclization and the capture of H2O to furnish the oxidative cycloaromatization reaction. Labeling experiment disclosed that the carbonyl oxygen atom of the product originates from H2O generated during the reaction.

Selection of Either (Fly Ash, Rubber And Rice Husk) Material for Rigid Pavement: Review

Abstract: Road transportation plays a crucial role in India's economic development, providing cost-effective, accessible, and adaptable means of transportation for both passengers and freight. Pavement, as a key component of highway design, must withstand vehicular loads and foot traffic while ensuring safe and efficient movement. This paper reviews existing literature on pavement materials, focusing on sustainable alternatives such as fly ash-based geopolymers, basalt fiber-reinforced concrete, and asphalt mixtures incorporating recycled aggregates and rubber. Additionally, it proposes the combination of rice husk and crumb rubber in concrete as a sustainable approach for pavement construction. The study aims to evaluate the mechanical properties of concrete with partial material replacements through experimental investigation. By addressing gaps in durability studies, comparative analysis, and non-destructive testing, this research seeks to provide valuable insights into the feasibility and sustainability of utilizing waste materials in concrete production. Ultimately, it aims to contribute to advancing sustainable practices in the construction industry and addressing the challenge of waste accumulation.

Constructive Journalism Approaches and Practices in Pakistani Urdu Print Media

The aims of the research and the results of the hypothesis about constructive journalism serve as the foundation for this section, which is based on a comparison of two reputable newspapers. The study design obtained secondary data by evaluating the stories of Jang and Express and applied a categorization scheme to operationalize constructive journalism frameworks and government development projects. Using this data cross-tabulation, descriptive statistics and chi-square analyses were applied through SPSS. The research shows that Jang is paying more attention to crucial issues in comparison with Express newspaper. Both of these newspapers show features of constructive journalism which include public-oriented, solution-oriented, future-oriented, and action-oriented stories. According to the statistical analyses presented in the previous chapter, it can be observed that both newspapers provide public-focused, solution-oriented, future-oriented, and action-oriented journalism. The main benefit of this study is to highlight the fact that understanding newspapers’ reporting orientation and/or the absence of helpful journalism frameworks is critical to shaping public opinion and perception in Pakistan because the majority of the population uses Urdu news for information.

Analysis of Factors Affecting the Implementation of Sustainable Building Projects

Abstract: Sustainability concept can be defined as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the needs of the future” [7]. Conventional buildings approximately consumes more than 30% of energy while utilising around 40% of resources while also simultaneously generating 40% of wastes and 35% of harmful green-house gases [8]. The sustainable building construction approach has the potential to make a significant contribution to sustainable development, especially considering the building industry’s considerable influence. Based on our literature assessment, we discovered that multiple research reveal a general lack of consistency across outcomes in different geographical locations regarding factors impacting the implementation of sustainable building projects. Therefore this study is based on the analysis of factors that impact the implementation of sustainable building projects and the effects of sustainable building projects on various critical factors. For the result of the research analysis, the Reliability analysis which was conducted based on Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient for the factors affecting the implementation of sustainable building projects were found to be 0.76658442 which can conclude that the reliability level of the questionnaires responses was good while based on Relative Importance Index (RII) analysis factors affecting the implementation of sustainable building projects were ranked, with material related factors being the most significant (RII 0.705) among other factors. Additionally, the impact of implementing sustainable building projects on different critical factors was determined, with RII analysis indicating that the most significant impact will occur in terms of economic benefits (RII 0.767). Overall, the study tried fulfilling all the objectives which were stated.

This essay commences by defining the essence of STOs, delving into the foundational legal principles, and scrutinizing the primary challenges in localizing construction, specifically the limitations of the conventional civil law system and the complexities in establishing a rights bundle paradigm. In accordance with prevailing regulations, it advocates for a localized construction approach, involving an expanded interpretation within the criminal law and civil law systems. The adaptation within the criminal law system involves recognizing the property attributes to prevent classification as illicit tokens or other violations. The adaptation within the civil law system entails endorsing the legalization of security token trading and validating the legitimacy of entrusted investment and trading activities involving security tokens.

A Study on SDG Linkages in the Eco-Hope Series of News Portal Mongabay India

Even after eight years since the birth of UN Agenda 30 and its 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs), climate change and its varying effects continue to loom over the earth and its inhabitants. How well are the SDGs covered by the media and communicated to the masses in a way that may evoke action and participation? The goals actively advocate for participation at global, national, and regional levels but, most importantly, at grassroots as well as individual levels. The knowledge that individuals or communities practising sustainable ways of living and livelihoods may go a long way in aiding other communities if adapted on a needs and context basis. The role of journalists and communicators becomes crucial here when such stories combined with the SDGs have the power to draw attention to not just the perils of global warming, or climate change but also, the idea that solutions to mitigate these exist. However, media coverage of SDGs or actions taken by various nations towards achieving these goals has been nearly negligible worldwide; with general environmental reportage itself, being rarely taken up in the mainstream media. To make environmental news more approachable, a constructive approach that includes context and examines solutions rather than focusing only on problems is the need of the hour. The role of alternative media platforms that particularly focus on environmental issues proves crucial here. One such platform in India is Mongabay India, whose Eco Hope series focuses on highlighting efforts and solutions towards environmental conservation. This paper studies linkages between SDGs emerging in 133 feature stories of the Eco Hope series and takes a mixed method approach to identify the linkages through content and thematic analyses.

Faced with the practical problems of insufficient integration of production and education in China's vocational education and the lack of practical enterprise experience in teachers, vocational colleges must deepen the integration of production and education and school-enterprise cooperation in order to build a high-quality enterprise practice mobile station, and thus promote the training of “double-qualified” teachers, and significantly improve the practical teaching ability and comprehensive literacy of teachers. In this context, this paper carries out research. By analyzing the necessity of the construction of enterprise practice mobile station in vocational colleges and the problems faced in the construction of enterprise practice mobile station, it further puts forward the construction and management approach of enterprise practice mobile station in vocational colleges and the training path of “double-qualified” practical teaching ability based on enterprise practice mobile station.

Cathode Ray Tube Glass as an Aggregate: A Step Towards Greener Concrete

The use of Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) glass as an aggregate in concrete is a promising approach for sustainable construction. The CRT technology, once innovative, is now obsolete, leading to the accumulation of millions of CR tubes globally, posing disposal challenges due to their toxic composition. The CRT glass, consisting mainly of silica along with various oxides and heavy metals, holds potential for recycling and reuse applications. Recycling methods for CRT glass, including closed-loop and open-loop recycling, offer avenues to mitigate waste and conserve resources. Integrating CRT glass into concrete improves mechanical properties and durability. Although replacing natural sand with CRT glass may slightly reduce compressive strength, innovative mix designs offset this effect. Concrete with CRT glass exhibits resistance to environmental factors, making it suitable for diverse construction applications. Addressing environmental concerns related to CRT glass disposal requires efficient recycling technologies and stringent regulations. Overall, integrating CRT glass into concrete presents a sustainable solution to mitigate environmental impacts while enhancing concrete performance.

Exploring waste reduction approaches in the architectural design stage of university buildings in the United States

Determining construction and demolition (C&D) waste reduction approaches in the architectural design stage is critical since this waste can be reduced by design decisions. Additionally, adding space and equipment which allow collection, recycling, and storage of solid waste at the usage phase of buildings are important in terms of design decisions. An online survey concerning design decisions of university buildings was conducted among United States (US) higher education institutions. Responses for 74 building projects from 71 universities were collected, analysed descriptively (i.e. percentages), and inferentially (i.e. correlations). Responses in some categories were aggregated to determine the total environment scores of the universities. The highest possible environmental score was determined as 8. While the score of 12 universities was 7, the score of three universities was 0. Of the participants, 85% stated that their University required architect to include specific design features for solid waste management (SWM) in the building; 89% stated that the University asked to use greener materials; 78% stated that the University asked to use longer-lasting building products. A set of recommendations and suggestions were provided to deal with the C&D and solid waste issue arising from university buildings.

MIKE: an ultrafast, assembly-, and alignment-free approach for phylogenetic tree construction.

Constructing a phylogenetic tree requires calculating the evolutionary distance between samples or species via large-scale resequencing data, a process that is both time-consuming and computationally demanding. Striking the right balance between accuracy and efficiency is a significant challenge. To address this, we introduce a new algorithm, MIKE (MinHash-based k-mer algorithm). This algorithm is designed for the swift calculation of the Jaccard coefficient directly from raw sequencing reads and enables the construction of phylogenetic trees based on the resultant Jaccard coefficient. Simulation results highlight the superior speed of MIKE compared to existing state-of-the-art methods. We used MIKE to reconstruct a phylogenetic tree, incorporating 238 yeast, 303 Zea, 141 Ficus, 67 Oryza, and 43 Saccharum spontaneum samples. MIKE demonstrated accurate performance across varying evolutionary scales, reproductive modes, and ploidy levels, proving itself as a powerful tool for phylogenetic tree construction. Direct/Explicit Instruction and Social Constructivist Practices in The Inclusive Classroom

Effective educational practices play an instrumental role in student success. In the context of an inclusive classroom, it is crucial that educators use evidence-based practices to ensure all students to meet educational outcomes. This review focuses on two evidence-based pedagogies, namely direct/explicit instruction (DI/EI) and social constructive approaches, and their effects on the inclusive classroom. Special consideration is given to cooperative learning and concrete implementation guidelines are explored. Lastly, the complimentary effects of combining DI/EI and social constructivist practices are investigated to advance the argument for using a variety of evidenced-based practices within the inclusive classroom. Abstract 6142: Interactions of processed meat and red meat intake with pathway-based polygenic risk scores for colorectal cancer: A novel approach for PRSs construction

Abstract Introduction: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer, and second cause of cancer death worldwide. Established CRC risk factors (E) include high red meat and processed meat intake. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have reported over 200 genetic variants associated with CRC risk. We used functional annotation data to identify subsets of GWAS variants within known pathways and constructed corresponding pathway Polygenic Risk Scores (pPRS). We evaluated pPRS by E interactions to determine whether genes within specific pathways interacted with meat intake to impact CRC risk. Methods: A pooled sample of 54,531 CRC controls and 48,260 cases of European ancestry from 27 studies were analyzed. Study-specific quartiles for red and processed meat intake were generated through in-person interviews and structured self-administered questionnaires. Variants were imported to AnnoQ for annotation (n=203) and analyzed for overrepresentation in PANTHER-reported pathways with Fisher’s exact test. Standard approaches were used to compute polygenic risk score weights relating the 203 variants to CRC. The subset of weights corresponding to each of five pathways were then used to compute the corresponding pPRS. Covariate-adjusted logistic regression models evaluated pPRSxE interactions with red meat and processed meat intake. Results: A total of 34 unique variants were overrepresented in five pathways: Apoptosis signaling, Alzheimer disease-presenilin, Wnt-signaling, Gonadotropin-releasing hormone receptor, and TGF-beta signaling. We found a statistically significant interaction between TGF-beta-pPRS and red meat intake (p = 0.0012). Stratified analyses reported a dose-response trend in the red meat and CRC risk association, with decreasing estimates of red meat and CRC risk association, comparing first to fourth quartiles of meat intake, with increasing quartiles of TGF-beta-pPRS: 13% (Q1), 12% (Q2), 7% (Q3), and 6% (Q4). This association remained significant after adjustment for all other variants (p = 0.0013), and all other pPRS with variants that did not overlap with the TGF-beta-pPRS (p = 0.0012). Independent GxE interaction models for individual variants that were included in the TGF-beta pathway showed significant interactions with red meat for rs2337113 (intron SMAD7 gene, Chr18), and rs2208603 (intergenic region BMP5, Chr6) (p = 0.013 & 0.0108, respectively). We did not find significant pPRS x red meat interactions for the other four pathways or with any pPRS x processed meat. Conclusion: This pathway-based interaction analysis revealed a statistical interaction between SNPs in the TGF-beta pathway and red meat consumption that impacts CRC risk. Integrating the PROSAIL and SVR Models to Facilitate the Inversion of Grassland Aboveground Biomass: A Case Study of Zoigê Plateau, China

Grasslands play a vital role in the global ecosystem. Efficient and reproducible methods for estimating the grassland aboveground biomass (AGB) are crucial for understanding grassland growth, promoting sustainable development, and assessing the carbon cycle. Currently, the available methods are limited by their computational inefficiency, model transfer, and sampling scale. Therefore, in this study, the estimation of grassland AGB over a large area was achieved by coupling the PROSAIL model with the support vector machine regression (SVR) method. The ill-posed inverse problem of the PROSAIL model was mitigated through kernel-based regularization using the SVR model. The Zoigê Plateau was used as the case study area, and the results demonstrated that the estimated biomass accurately reproduced the reference AGB map generated by zooming in on on-site measurements (R2 = 0.64, RMSE = 43.52 g/m2, RRMSE = 15.13%). The estimated AGB map also maintained a high fitting accuracy with field sampling data (R2 = 0.69, RMSE = 44.07 g/m2, RRMSE = 14.21%). Further, the generated time-series profiles of grass AGB for 2022 were consistent with the trends in local grass growth dynamics. The proposed method combines the advantages of the PROSAIL model and the regression algorithm, reduces the dependence on field sampling data, improves the universality and repeatability of grassland AGB estimation, and provides an efficient approach for grassland ecosystem construction and planning.

Post-Conflict Urban Landscape Storytelling: Two Approaches to Contemporary Virtual Visualisation of Oral Narratives

Armed conflicts and resulting displacement disrupt people’s sense of place, leading to an imbalance in the people–place relationship, exaggerated by rehabilitation efforts that overlook the sense of place among conflict- and displacement-impacted communities. A continuous landscape narrative that extends from pre- to post-conflict times contributes to recreating the essence of lost landscapes and therefore reconnecting their sense of place. Focusing on a Syrian city that hosted internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the aftermath of the Syrian conflict, this study aims to structure a virtual landscape and narrative depiction of conflict-impacted landscapes. This study proposes a storytelling approach for narrative construction and an AI-powered visualisation approach to revive the image of the elusive landscapes. This study utilised qualitative research methods through in-depth, semi-structured interviews for data collection and an online survey for exploring the perception of virtual landscape images generated with AI text-to-image models (DALL.E 2 and Bing Image Creator). This study indicates that narratives, supported by AI visualisation, are reliable for comprehending landscape transformation and changes in the sense of place. The two approaches can serve as rehabilitation initiatives in post-crisis settings to recall images of elusive landscapes to save them from being lost forever.

Feasibility Study of Experimental Protocol for the Time-Dependent Mechanical Response of Synthetic Tibia.

In this research, an experimental biomechanics construct was developed to reveal the mechanics of distal tibial fracture by submitting synthetic tibiae to cyclic loading, resulting in a combined stress state due to axial compression and bending loads. The synthetic tibia was fixed at the knee but allowed to rotate in the coronal and sagittal planes at the ankle. The first three loading regimes lasted for 4000 cycles/each, and the final until ultimate failure. After 12k±80 cycles, the observed failure patterns closely resembled distal tibial fractures. The collected data during cyclic loading were fitted into a phenomenological model to deduce the time-dependent response of the synthetic tibiae. Images were also collected and analyzed using digital image correlation to deduce the full-field state of strain. The latter revealed that longitudinal strain contours extended in the proximal-distal direction. The transverse strain contours exemplified a medial-to-lateral distribution, attributed to the combined contributions of the Poisson's effect and the flexural deformation from axial and bending components of the applied load, respectively. The experimental construct, full-field characterization, and data analysis approaches can be extended to elucidate the effect of different fixation devices on the overall mechanical behavior of the bone and validate computational models in future research.

An Ontology of Cyberspace as a Basis for Decision-making in Cyberoperations

In the cyberoperations community there is a commonly accepted starting point for describing cyberspace as comprising of multiple planes through which information flows. However, the model is not a tool that facilitates planning and executing cyberoperations. Tools do exist in the form of technical cybersecurity ontologies. At the moment the link between technical ontologies, that are the tools of experts, and the operational planning process is limited. These technical ontologies provide automated information that would support operational planning. At the moment cybersecurity experts translate the information that military professionals need, which may cause insufficiencies or distortions in communication or cause inconsistencies in the planning process. This paper presents the ongoing work of developing a model of cyberspace in the form of a core ontology. The ontology describes the flow of digital information between persons and the enabling technology as well as geographical data. It is intended as a tool that supports operational planning and decision-making in and through cyberspace, by enabling automation and reasoning. The model is created using the well-established Constructive Research Approach (CRA) methodology, and is developed on earlier research. CRA consists of six phases in which (1) the problem is defined, (2) an understanding of the topic is generated, (3) a solution (model) is constructed which then is (4) demonstrated. Then the models (5) theoretical connections are presented and the (6) scope of applicability is assessed. The challenges of developing an ontology of cyberspace as part of the third phase of the methodology are in focus. The ontology serves as an operational core ontology, aiming to link cybersecurity domain ontologies to the DOLCE+DnS Ultralite (DUL) foundational ontology. The ontology is based on research in Cyberspace Geography and Cyber Terrain. No earlier attempts at creating a core ontology of cyberspace grounded in a foundational ontology, based on these concepts, were found. Overall, the use of reference ontologies in cyberspace research is scarce and few are grounded in a foundational ontology. The starting point for the ontology is a model of cyberspace comprising of six layers, which are the 1) geographic layer, 2) physical network layer, 3) logical network layer, 4) socio-organizational layer, 5) virtual persona layer and finally the 6) persona layer. The model was complemented with levels describing action and information and partially excluded the outer levels 1 and 6, which were directly linked to the DUL foundational ontology.

MXene confined microcapsules for uremic toxins elimination

AbstractAdsorbents with high adsorption efficiency and excellent biosafety for biomedical applications are highly required. MXene is a promising candidate owning these advantages, yet pristine MXene faces dilemmas including insufficient utility of surface site as well as limited processibility. Here, we develop MXene‐encapsulated porous microcapsules via microfluidics. The microcapsules have a biomass hydrogel shell that provides robust support for MXene in the core, by which the microcapsules are endowed with high MXene dosage and remarkable biosafety. Additionally, the MXene nanoflakes assemble into a three‐dimensional network via metal ion‐induced gelation, thereby avoiding restacking and significantly improving surface utilization. Moreover, a freeze‐pretreatment of the microcapsules during preparation results in the formation of a macroporous structure in the shell, which can facilitate the diffusion of the target molecules. These features, combined with additional magneto‐responsiveness rendered by the incorporation of magnetic nanoparticles, contribute to prominent performances of the microcapsules in cleaning uremia toxins including creatinine, urea, and uric acid. Thus, it is anticipated that the MXene‐encapsulated microcapsules will be promising adsorbents in dialysis‐related applications, and the combination of microfluidic encapsulation with metal ion gelation will provide a novel approach for construction of hybrid MXene materials with desired functions.
