Directions for Spiritual and Intellectual Upbringing and Teachingof Youth in the 21st Century

The global informatization of society, despite the enormous opportunities it provides for people, has a devastating effect on the individual. There is every reason to believe that the new generation of the digital society may grow up to be superficially minded, easily controlled from the outside, and will have trouble building real relationships. Unspirituality is a significant problem that affects society at various levels. It reflects a decline in moral, cultural, and spiritual values, which leads to the overall degradation of society and the individual. Spirituality is unconscious in humans. It explains the phenomena of conscience and other higher experiences: faith, love, hope, goodness, freedom, responsibility, etc. The formation of the spiritual world of modern youth, the disclosure of its spiritual and intellectual potential should occupy one of the leading places in educational institutions. Spiritually oriented education at the present stage of society's development should become the most effective factor in the formation of a spiritual personality. A spiritually perfect personality is the result of a person's long, hard work on himself or herself, work aimed at gradual self-improvement, conscious building of oneself in order to approach the chosen ideal, which harmoniously combines high human virtues, which makes it possible to fulfill and realize oneself, and thus experience the fullness of human happiness. The education system shapes the future of society, so it is important that the entire education process is subordinated to the task of forming a personality - a person with high positive qualities, capable of a happy life, active self-realization in all spheres of life for their own and the common good - a harmonious personality. To this end, the following areas of spiritual and intellectual upbringing and teaching are offered: development of critical thinking and independence; ethical education; cultural and intercultural education; development of creative abilities; promotion of social interaction and leadership; digital literacy. Examples of relevant lessons that address these objectives are provided. The complex combination of the proposed areas makes spiritual and intellectual upbringing a holistic process aimed at developing a personality capable of self-improvement and achieving harmony in all spheres of life.

An examination of the traits and effects of "Red Songs" on education, Realistic inspiration and value, and culture during the Yan'an Period

To discuss several qualities as well as the influence ‘Red Songs’ had on education, realism promotion and cultural development in general of Yanan Period. During the Yan’an Period ‘Red Songs” were not merely songs; they have been weapons transforming political and cultural reality. The songs were also a tool for disseminating good communist ideas and encouraging feelings of patriotism, as well influencing realization inspiration values culture in the collective consciousness building; through their integration into education. Nevertheless, it should be clarified that if “Red Songs” were unifying in nature then there are reasons to believe those scripts had been associated with periods of upheaval later on especially period such as the Cultural Revolution which was divisive and deeply devastating for Chinese society. Embedded in the history of Chinese modernity, a series of social mobilisations has been implemented. Nonetheless, many of these initiatives have failed as a result the narrow focus on the intended audience and one-dimensional approach. There were significant achievements during the success of CCP revolution in mobilising society through red songs pf Yan ‘an era. It comes out of integration between theoretical Marxist conception applied to a given situation and the useful lessons drawn from former outcomes.

Optimizing Computation: A Biomimicry Design Spiral Approach to Algorithm Development

The increasing focus on biomimicry in the built environment shows that designers are becoming more conscious of the opportunities that nature presents for enhancing human and systemic functions. The field of advanced material technology has extensively used biomimicry. Nevertheless, there has been little in-depth discussion of its possibilities in environmentally conscious building practices. Numerous branches of the social and natural sciences have had an impact on the field of architecture; at the present time, biological principles are finding their way into design processes. From the earliest days of bio-architectural movements to the most recent ones, bioinspiration has shaped architectural practices towards a wide range of new methods. Nevertheless, the line between architectural bioinspiration that just mimics natural forms and the genuine comprehension of biological principles—the bedrock of sustainable development—is blurry when it comes to biomimicry. One of the biggest obstacles is the lack of cross-disciplinary cooperation between architects and biologists, which is exacerbated by the vast knowledge gap that exists between the creative process of building design and the scientific disciplines that pertain to biology. All sorts of spiral pathways, their properties, and how to use them to build and enhance other optimisation methods are described in great detail.

What Is Your Building Doing for the City? Systematic Literature Review on the Potential of Façade Design for the Mitigation of Urban Environmental Problems

Rising urban temperatures, noise and air pollution, and the loss of biodiversity are pressing problems in cities worldwide that call for action at different scales to improve the livability of urban areas. This study focuses on the role that buildings and façade design play in the urban environment, exploring how their informed design might help mitigating these environmental issues at a local scale. It explores the field by means of a systematic review aimed at identifying the impact of façade design choices focusing on three main design variables: material, geometry, and vegetation in façades. Scopus and Web of Science databases were explored between 17 April and 20 April 2023, ending up with 121 scientific articles, then categorized and data-mined to allow for descriptive statistical analysis to discuss scientific results obtained via digital simulation or empirical measurements. Risk of bias was addressed through double revision of the gathered sample. This study ends with the identification of desirable façade attributes based on their reported impacts, in terms of material properties, geometric operations, and main vegetation parameters, which we discuss by outlining compatibilities and clashes between them to guide conscious building design decisions to improve the urban ecosystem.

Moving from Second Sight to Critical Consciousness Building: Using Social Justice Youth Development and Youth Participatory Action Research to Promote Praxis in Out-of-School Time

Abstract Youth development programs offer flexible environments for healing and positive identity development for youth facing discrimination and oppression. Programs often occur in out-of-school time (OST), a context that is clearly positioned in tandem with the education system to create complex relationships that lead to challenges in OST spaces. Youth development programs occurring in OST settings have the potential for resisting or replicating oppressive practices toward youth occurring in the education system. This article highlights a youth participatory action research (YPAR) project within an OST program using photovoice, field trips, and arts-based strategies. Eleven youth participated in the project over the course of nine months. Thematic content analysis of weekly photovoice and critical consciousness resulted in a primary theme of peeling back the layers. This theme encompassed the evolution of youth understanding the interconnectedness between their individual-level experiences of racism and broader community and systems-level inputs. This article describes critical consciousness development of OST youth participants through intentional engagement in critical dialogue, experiential field trips, and reflective art making.

Enhancing Building Information Modeling on Green Building Practices in China: A Conceptual Framework

This study presents an in-depth investigation into the intersection of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and green building practices within China’s rapidly evolving construction industry. As China intensifies its efforts to mitigate environmental impacts and promote sustainable growth, the integration of BIM into green building practices emerges as a crucial area of study. A qualitative research method was adopted in this research. In the first step, utilizing semi-structured interviews with a diverse array of industry professionals, this research provides nuanced insights into the current state and prospects of BIM in the green building landscape. Secondly, thematic analysis is used to formalize the views and points from interviewees. Finally, a novel conceptual framework is proposed, addressing these challenges through technological innovation, supportive policies, cultural and educational reform, economic incentives, and collaborative dynamics. This study contributes a systematic approach to amalgamate BIM with sustainable construction, offering insights for industry professionals and policymakers to promote environmentally conscious building practices in China.

Research Review of Green Building Rating System under the Background of Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality

In order to foster a more sustainable and eco-friendly trajectory for the construction industry, while concurrently mitigating environmental pollution and energy inefficiency, it is imperative to cultivate an environmentally conscious building and urban environment. Under the background of Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality, the green building rating system has become a research hotspot in the field of green building. This paper systematically summarizes the research progress of the GBRS in weight setting, indicator setting, and the evaluation process, and creatively proposes the following three directions for future research: (1) Weight determination methods based on machine learning or deep learning models, and reasonable weight allocation by mixing multiple evaluation methods. (2) Setting dynamic evaluation indicators, strengthening interdisciplinary research and regional consideration, and introducing a life cycle assessment to solve the problem of setting indicators in the existing evaluation system. (3) Combine building information modeling with GBRS to realize the automation and intelligence of evaluation and improve the comprehensiveness and accuracy of evaluation.

A Brief Guide to the 50 Eco-Friendly Materials Transforming Sustainable Construction

This study offers a brief examination of eco-friendly materials for sustainable construction practices. Addressing the growing urgency for environmentally conscious building practices to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the construction material manufacturing industry. This study examines 50 eco-friendly materials, providing an understanding of their attributes, applications, and ecological benefits. Emphasizing the transformative potential of these materials, this article serves as a practical brief guide for architects, engineers, and construction professionals, facilitating informed decision-making without compromising construction performance. With a commitment to environmental responsibility and structural efficiency, this article contributes to a paradigm shift towards a greener and more sustainable future in the construction industry.

Building the civic consciousness of the socialist rule of law in Vietnam nowadays

Vietnam is implementing global socio-economic integration, so the law must also be renovated to meet the requirements of international integration. Because the law is attached to the country's institutions, it shows the consistency in Vietnam's politics, economy, and diplomacy. In the world, the rule of law is a typical value that humanity aims for because it upholds the law, expressing our nation's aspiration for a democratic and equal society. Therefore, Vietnam has built a socialist rule of law. To achieve this, Vietnam must ensure the free power of its citizens, promote the democracy of the state, and ensure that power belongs to the people. The paper uses a materialist dialectical method to examine the building of civic consciousness that promotes the perfection of Vietnam's current socialist rule of law. At the same time, the article also uses analytical methods and synthetic methods to clarify the sense of citizenship in the Vietnamese state, Vietnam's political institutions, and the development of the socialist rule of law is correct.

BIM-based environmental assessment of residential renovation projects during the operational phase

ABSTRACT Reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions to combat global climate change has become an international necessity. A large portion of energy consumption is attributed to old buildings, with increased operational costs and decreased occupational comfort. These buildings require renovation measures that can be viewed as an opportunity to implement sustainable construction and create traditionally designed buildings based on sustainable construction. This study proposes a combination of building information modeling (BIM) with Design Builder and Meteonorm software to evaluate the environmental impact of renovating buildings during the operational phase. The process involved is demonstrated in a case study application to a typical two-story single-family residential building in Tehran city, in which the building’s materials, weight, and volume are determined using Revit software, and Design Builder is used to simulate the renovation effect on various building components – showing that, by combining the most effective insulation, glass, heating system, and doors, a 15% reduction in energy consumption and 44% reduction in CO2 emissions could be achieved. The study significantly advances knowledge in sustainable building practices by introducing a practical framework for decision-making in environmentally conscious building renovations, focusing on such crucial elements as insulation materials, window glass types, heating systems, and door materials. It also provides valuable insights into the practical implications of weather data for accurate environmental forecasting, emphasizing the methodology's applicability and adaptability to similar contexts, as evidenced by its successful application in a real-world case in Tehran.

BARRIERS TO SUSTAINABLE GREEN BUILDING PRACTICE IN NIGERIA

Green building approaches are becoming increasingly essential in the construction business. Green building entails designing buildings and employing methods that are ecologically responsible and efficient with resources throughout the life cycle of the building. It is viewed as a substitute to reducing or eliminating the negative environmental and climate change impacts of construction activities. Despite its benefits, green building uptake is hampered by a number of impediments. The study was conducted in the states of Abuja and Lagos, focusing on professionals, freelancers, and clients. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS 25.0, and the study's findings revealed that lack of understanding of Green Building Technologies was ranked first among the obstacles to green building acceptance with a RII of 0.79, followed by a lack of institutions to develop policies and set guidelines with a RII of 0.77, ambiguity with green equipment and materials with a RII of 0.76, lack of interest and interaction among project team members with 0.76, and lack of interest as well as communication among project team members with RII of 0.76.However, there are various hurdles to the implementation of ecologically conscious building in Nigeria. Long design and approval procedures for new technologies, a shortage of sustainable materials and goods, a proclivity to stick with present practices, a lack of building norms and regulations, and a lack of awareness about green products and powerful building systems are all examples. In 1949, the 15th issue of the Parisian “Kultura” published a text entitled “The Nation in the Journey of Yevhen Malaniuk” signed under the pseudonym Julian Kardosz. Its author attempted to provide a synthetic presentation of the Ukrainian emigration environment in the 1920s and 1930s. This was how the Ukrainian poet’s collaboration with the “Kultura” magazine, edited by Jerzy Giedroyc, began. This collaboration was an important testimony to the modernization processes in Polish-Ukrainian relations, and was also a very important voice in the literary and ideological dialogue of representatives of the Polish and Ukrainian intelligentsia, sentenced to exile for political reasons. The Polish writer Józef Łobodowski also understood the need to engage in such a discussion, as expressed in his texts such as the sketch “Przeciw upiorom przeszłości” [Against the Ghosts of the Past] published in “Kultura” 1952, no. 2/52–3/53, and an earlier article entitled “Serce za barykadą” [Heart behind the barricade] published in the first, March issue of “Trybuna” in 1932. Józef Łobodowski, deeply involved in the conscious building of Polish-Ukrainian relations, also translated a four-volume anthology of Ukrainian poetry and continued his conversation with Yevhen Malaniuk even after the author’s death. The aim of this sketch is to describe the reception of Yevhen Malaniuk’s writing evidenced in Józef Łobodowski’s journalistic and literary-critical texts published in the Parisian “Kultura”. This reception is the result of the contacts between these authors, which took place in the second half of the 1930s. In this article tries to indicate its key points, strategies for constructing arguments, and show its specificity as well as describe its significance in the processes of shaping the Polish-Ukrainian dialogue in the pages of the journal edited by Jerzy Giedroyc and the modernization of Polish-Ukrainian relations. In the reception of the Polish author, he was not so much a multicultural creator, but a poet of ideas and emotions focused on “awakening national conscience” and identity reflection among his compatriots.

Bibliometric Review of Building Material Assessment for Energy Efficiency in Urban Digital Twins

The construction sector exerts detrimental environmental impacts on natural ecosystems. Mitigating these impacts and reducing pollution necessitates the adoption of an assessment tool. During the design phase, decisions must factor in building typology, materials, construction techniques, dimensions, functions, and contextual considerations. Crafting solutions that effectively address all these facets presents a formidable challenge. The European Union (EU) advocates for employing the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology to evaluate environmental impacts in the construction industry. This approach encompasses the entire lifecycle of a product, encompassing production, usage, and disposal stages. However, integrating additional elements such as the urban context and digital twin technologies remains intricate. Given the impending need to enhance energy efficiency in the European building stock through extensive redevelopment, this research aims to identify a robust methodology for selecting optimal building materials. This review seeks to offer an updated perspective encompassing the choice of eco-friendly building materials and the incorporation of digital twin technologies, which facilitate real-time building assessments. By amalgamating insights derived from this analysis, this research strives to contribute to a holistic framework that addresses the multifaceted aspects of sustainable construction. Such a framework would streamline the selection of environmentally conscious building materials while harnessing the potential of digital twin methodologies for rapid and precise building evaluations. Ultimately, this research aspires to bridge critical gaps in sustainable practices within the construction sector, aligning with the EU's overarching objectives of promoting greener and more efficient built environments.

Critical Success Factors for Building Information Modeling Implementation as a Sustainable Construction Practice in the UAE

The building sector is widely acknowledged as a driving force behind national prosperity. However, there are considerable challenges to the construction industry’s transition to sustainable practices, including regarding building information modelling (BIM) technologies. The United Arab Emirates has made significant progress in the Middle East in adopting BIM technologies. Green building approaches have been advanced through their incorporation into environmentally conscious building practices, with a large body of literature responding to this issue. Several projects in the United Arab Emirates have, however, made use of the complementary nature of BIM and UAE sustainable policies. However, not everybody has employed the full potential of BIM implementation in sustainable construction. This paper aims to identify and prioritize the critical success factors (CSFs) for effective BIM implementation as a sustainable construction practice in the UAE and examine their ranking and relationships. A list of critical success factors was gathered from a review of previous literature to identify the essential factors for successful implementation. A standardized questionnaire was distributed to consulting organizations and engineering enterprises to verify the existence of these CSFs and measure their importance in the context of the UAE’s construction industry. The survey data was analyzed using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) technique to elaborate and validate the results, which was specifically applicable to the needs of this study. The results from the AHP analysis show that the social aspects were ranked as the highest critical success factor compared to the other criteria, namely economic, environmental, and information technology. Within this criterion, it was found that effective communication among stakeholders is the most important element, as subject matter experts feel that it is imperative to have buy-in from all or most of the construction project stakeholders to achieve the strategic goal of implementing BIM. Equally anticipated are both an effective corporate framework to back up the BIM system and government funding to build the BIM system.

Interrogating the self en route to critical consciousness: Cultivating higher education leaders through a positionality‐centered, doctoral‐level course

This article showcases the lessons we learned from developing and facilitating a doctoral-level course on the topic and praxis of positionality in the field of education studies. We contend that positionality is integral to critical consciousness building and leadership development among doctoral students and other higher education leaders.

Research ethics in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip: between institutionalisation and the power of praxis

ABSTRACT ‘Research is a major aspect and fundamental component of many social struggles and movements for change' [Choudry, A. 2013a. “Activist Research Practice: Exploring Research and Knowledge Production for Social Action.” Socialist Studies/Études Socialistes 9 (1): 128 151. doi:10.18740/S4G01K, 128]. For Palestinians, research and knowledge production are vital for their ongoing anti-colonial struggle. However, there are various factors that restrict these processes and create an unsafe environment to produce liberatory knowledge(s) related to political and social activism. Some of these factors are the colonisers' prolonged oppression of Palestinian thought, narrative(s) and theorising, which is exacerbated by an oppressive Palestinian Authority – essentially an authoritarian body governing the Palestinian population in the West Bank and Gaza Strip; and the imposed hyper institutionalisation of academic and intellectual spaces, by donors’ strategies which create a need to meet global academic criteria by Palestinian institutions. This article engages with research ethics as a specific aspect within the process of knowledge production and dissemination. It critically looks at procedural research ethics that frame research conduct, including data generation, data analysis and modes of dissemination. In Palestine, research is being conducted under settler colonialism, apartheid and repressive ruling authorit(ies). This poses unique conditions that challenge standardised institutional ethics procedures and existing power dynamics within academic and research institutions. Additionally, in Palestine, there is a situation of excessive research – that is almost entirely dependent on foreign funding and the avoidance of clashes with the ruling authorit(ies). Hence, research ethics could be used as a tool for objectification and violence normalisation [Abdelnour, S., and M. Abu Moghli. 2021. “Researching Violent Contexts: A Call for Political Reflexivity.” Organization, 1–24]. The article argues that within the Palestinian context, institutionalised ethics procedures in universities and research institutions are almost never sensitive to the particularities of the context and/or the knowledge production and dissemination needs of a nation struggling for liberation. It also argues that utilising research ethics beyond standardised institutional procedures could be a tool for emancipation and the building of collective anti-colonial consciousness and critical education.

Advertising as discursive reflections of the political realm: Turkish-Cypriot advertisements between 1940-1974

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore how conflict/war and its political economic and socio-cultural reflections influenced Turkish-Cypriot advertisements. It provides an analysis of the Turkish-Cypriot advertisements during 1940–1974, which was characterised by intermittent inter-ethnic armed conflict, to illuminate how they are related to the commercial, political, economic and socio-cultural unravelling of the era.Design/methodology/approachCompositional interpretation and social semiotic analysis (Rose, 2016) with a critical lens have been adopted as research design. Social, cultural, economic and political conditions of the time were also used in the analysis.FindingsFirstly, this paper shows that the advertisements increased in complexity although very incrementally through the studied period, especially in comparison to the advertising of the countries that directly influenced the commercial sphere in Cyprus such as Britain, Greece and Turkey. Secondly, this paper shows that the advertisement messages were directly shaped by key events in the socio-political realm. Especially during the 1940s (British rule) and the bicommunal Republic of Cyprus era, the Turkish-Cypriot community newspapers featured a cosmopolitan range of advertisements paid for by Greek-Cypriot, Armenian-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot businesses. After 1963, when the armed conflict began and the communities retreated to separate parts of the capital city, the featured advertisements mostly reverted back to the 1950s political economic agenda: firstly, they intended to build ethno-community consciousness by transforming Turkish-Cypriots who were scattered around in different towns, villages and cities into a public/community; secondly, they were used in developing the burgeoning Turkish-Cypriot business enterprises and the making of a consumer class.Originality/valueAs no such study was conducted so far, this paper shows, through the continued and increasing existence and variety of the advertisements printed in Turkish-Cypriot newspapers, the trajectory with which the Turkish-Cypriots met the consumption codes of the era under armed conflict. Secondly, the authors observe the “state” authority (in this case, the community administration) directly and indirectly influences both the business agenda and the building of community consciousness. Thirdly, the authors show that the Turkish-Cypriot community had normalised commerce under armed-conflict.

Morphology of Building Development as an Element of Urban Ventialtion System

Abstract Problems related to air quality in large urban agglomerations (e.g., high concentration of pollutants, the urban heat island phenomenon) make it necessary to take comprehensive measures to improve air exchange in urban areas. The paper concerns the relationship between wind phenomena observable in cities and the geometrical features of building development. The knowledge on the subject is already well-founded and has been intensively developed. Regardless, it remains relatively poorly applied to urban planning. Based on the analysis of source literature, the classification of features and spatial elements of building development that are crucial for ventilation is conducted in the following paper. Five different cities are also analyzed regarding how the air exchange improvement policy should be pursued through conscious building development shaping. The cities selected for analysis include Warsaw and Cracow in Poland, a large agglomeration of New Dehli in India, the experimental Masdar City in the United Arab Emirates, and the newly designed Jätkäsaaridistrict of Helsinki. Based on the example of the above cities, the paper investigates the possibilities of combining spatial features of building development that are essential to aerodynamics, in order to create effective ventilation systems.

Service Learning on the U.S./Mexico Border: Transforming Student Paradigms

The purpose of our evaluation is to provide an example of how public health schools can use service-learning courses to teach students about health equity. By ensuring that the future workforce has a comprehensive understanding of regions such as the U.S./Mexico border, students will be better equipped to provide public health services. Specifically, our objectives were to (1) understand how student perceptions of the border evolve during the 1-week Border Health Service-Learning Institute (BHSLI) course and (2) understand how the service-learning experience impacted students’ proposed personal and professional goals. Using BHSLI student journals collected over 9 years, we conducted a qualitative investigation to evaluate students’ experiences of the service-learning course. Our findings suggest that BHSLI offered opportunities for advancing dialogue about health equity. Because BHSLI is immersive, it showed students a reality that they would not normally encounter. In reflecting on these new experiences, students were not only encouraged to question systems and policies but also made accountable to act upon the insights they gained. We found that BHSLI was a space for critical consciousness building, for shifting paradigms. Students learned how to intervene in real time to make change around public health issues. Service learning could be a practice-based solution to help public health students learn about health equity, especially in historically marginalized regions such as the U.S./Mexico border.

Conceptualization of Well-Building with Reference to Air-Filtration with Biomaterials

Aims: Over the last decade, green building standards and standard-setting organizations have made significant strides towards the market transformation of the building industry, resulting in a rapid expansion of green buildings and environmentally conscious building practices throughout the world. The WELL Building Standard focuses on the people in the building [1]. One of the biggest problems in the world today, that has devastating effects on human health and on global warming, is air pollution. By developing knowledge of biomaterials production, ways can be found to reduce these pollutants. Methods: To write this article, a quasi-experimental research method has been used that examines the production of a biomaterial for air filtration in building skins. This shell, which is inspired by cell plasma membrane, meets WELL standards for the adsorption of air pollutant particles and their conversion into harmless particles, thereby optimizing indoor air quality, as well as helping to reduce air pollutants and improve global warming conditions. The use of peptoids -non-natural mimetics of peptides and proteins and like cell membrane phospholipids- to make this synthetic membrane is recommended in this article. Findings: According to studies, peptoids can have side chains to adsorb air pollutant particles. The structure of peptoids allows them to exhibit certain features of cell plasma membrane, such as self-healing and self-assembly. These synthetic membranes can be fabricated with a structure like a cellular plasma membrane. Conclusion: This research states that the time has come to elevate human health and comfort to the forefront of building practices and reinvent buildings that are not only better for the planet, but also for people [1].
