Periodismo transfronterizo: Trayectorias y procesos de identificación laboral en Tijuana, México, y San Diego, Estados Unidos

The purpose of this article was to analyze the work-related biography of a group of journalists working across the border between Tijuana, Mexico, and San Diego, United States. The discussion focuses on the influence of the nature of journalism on the configuration of the professional identities of ten journalists interviewed during the second half of 2015. Based on an analysis of work-related trajectories and forms of identification, we found that multiple activities and independent work are two strategies used by cross-border journalists to stay active in the field, but also as areas of rupture with the profession. This exploratory study brings new questions to the analysis of professions, and particularly journalism, in complex contexts such as the Mexico-U.S. border.

Evolution of the Field of Social Media Research through Science Maps (2008-2017)

The objectives of this work were to discover the main points of interest in the field of research on Social Media, within the scientific area of Communication, and to analyse how it has evolved. A methodology based on the analysis of co-words and visualisation techniques was applied. The data was obtained from scientific publications indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) database, during the periods 2008-2012 and 2013-2017. The resulting maps showed that, during the period 2008-2012, the main areas of interest were web 2.0 and the internet in terms of social networking sites. However, during the period 2013-2017, there was a strong upward trend in the impact of social networks and platforms, especially Twitter and Facebook, in many areas (such as social movements, public relations and publicity, distribution of content, crisis communication, participatory journalism, political communication, or the configuration of public identities through social platforms, with special emphasis on youth). Finally, new scientific challenges were found in automatic analysis of content and management of big data. In conclusion, it was possible to transform a complex, underlying, dynamic and multidimensional reality into visible representations that could help experts in the field to better understand the evolution of research on Social Media.

As múltiplas formas de gênero e os comportamentos de cada indivíduo estão ligados a diversos fatores principalmente ao sexo e sua sexualidade. Questiona-se: Como o Direito contribuiu para a construção do gênero? O objetivo do estudo é compreender a condição feminina no patriarcado que recebeu o traço dos excluídos, condição que o Direito reproduziu e como ocorreu a construção e a configuração das identidades que são socialmente aceitas e sacralizadas pela religião na atualidade. O modo de raciocínio utilizado é o sistêmico e histórico.

Cines nacionales y lenguas no hegemónicas. La invisibilidad del gallego frente a las políticas de diversidad cultural

En línea con los postulados de la Agenda 2020 respecto al rol estructural del cine en la configuración de la(s) identidad(es) europea(s), el artículo destaca la trascendencia de las cinematografías nacionales en lenguas no hegemónicas en la consecución de una cultura europea diversa. Desde esta perspectiva, se asume el estudio de caso del cine en Galicia, y se analiza la presencia (o, para ser más exactos, la ausencia) de la versión original gallega en los largometrajes cinematográficos estrenados entre 2008 y 2012. La propuesta surge al abrigo del proyecto de I+D+i “Hacia el Espacio Digital Europeo. El papel de las cinematografías pequeñas en versión original” (Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad. Ref. CSO2012- 35784).

Víctimas y mártires de la violencia política reciente en Chile. ¿Una memoria pública en disputa?

This research deals with the public memory of political violence in Chile between 1970 and 1991. Considering that remembrance practices are a crucial aspect in the configuration of national identities and the construction of cities, this study aims at promoting the understanding of how memory shifted towards the “politics of regret” (Olick 2007). Based on the analysis of memorial elements distributed throughout the city of Santiago, the work suggests that public memory has been arranged ecumenically and in a spatially fragmented manner, resulting in rather local and segregated memorializing dynamics. Thus, while the country’s memory policies are located within the affirmation of democracy, human rights and the condemnation of dictatorship, the processes of urban space configuration have allowed for the persistence of crucially relevant spaces to remain untouched by this emergent trend.

Europe of “Others”

This article explores Carmine Amoroso’s Cover Boy (2006) through the themes of deviation, mobility and identity construction and from the textually analytical perspectives of the director’s use of space and mise en scène in establishing a dialogue on “otherness” in a cross-European context. Specifically, I argue that it is through Amoroso’s use of movement within the film’s principal setting of Rome and, in an overt way, cross-nationally that more intricate questions of the constructedness of Western (and privileged) European identity are able to emerge. Along the way, the problematics of identity are also revealed through Amoroso’s narrative interest in performance, both conventionally (through the arts and Italy’s fashion industry) and, more implicitly, as many of the characters in Cover Boy present themselves falsely, in varying complex ways. Further to this, the film’s themes of queerness are addressed not only in light of personal identity, but also under the rubric of national belonging and inclusion. As I shall examine, this (re)configuration of identities can then be read in the broader context of Amoroso’s aesthetic of (re)presentation, wherein the themes of performance and individual and collective identity are strikingly evoked. Finally, my analysis exposes the film’s sociopolitical and socioeconomic interest in “otherness” alongside Zygmunt Bauman’s essay “Europe of Strangers”—to which, I argue, the issues raised in the final moments of Cover Boy adhere.

Redefining Irishness: Fragmentation or intercultural exchange

Abstract The traditional definition of Irishness has been overwritten by internationalization, cultural and political discourses. Globalisation today sets the ground for the redefinition of a “new Ireland” altering the ethnocultural base to the definitions of Irish national identity. Recent cultural criticism on modern Irish studies have described the Irish nation as undergoing moments of crisis and instability within a global context. This paper explores and analyzes the process by which literary dramatic works dealing with Irish national distinctiveness have been put subject to being written and re-written as the Irish nation passes through periods of instabilities and problematisations. Ireland has been affected by conflicting narratives and needed to move “towards a new configuration of identities” (Kearney, 1997, p. 15). Edward W. Said comments on this fracturing of identity as “human reality is constantly being made and unmade” (1979, p. 33). The attempt Irish playwrights have made to address factors affecting Irishness and the violent assertion of national identity addressed in this paper, are considered within a post-nationalist and post-colonial context of dramatic works.

Configuración identitaria en jóvenes tras la desaparición forzada de un familiar

(analitico): En este trabajo investigamos la configuracion identitaria en jovenes que vivieron en su infancia la desaparicion forzada de un familiar, a traves de un estudio cualitativo adelantado desde la perspectiva teorica del construccionismo social. Tomamos la narracion autobiografica de siete jovenes -cuatro mujeres y tres hombres-, y de cinco familiares (madres y abuelas). Encontramos que la identidad de estas personas jovenes se configura en un contexto social violento, en el cual las practicas sociales se tejen en relacion con la desaparicion, en medio de una familia que se ha reconfigurado por la incertidumbre que produce la ausencia del cuerpo, y por el ocultamiento del evento tras un imperativo social de silenciar el hecho. Politiques publiques, objets intermédiaires et conflits de cadrages: le cas de la configuration territoriale autour d’une route dans l’Amazonie Bolivienne

Les politiques publiques de la colonisation et la conservation dans l’Amazonie souvent sont contradictoires dans les logiques d’action et la manière d’envisager le territoire et les populations. Les cadres juridiques et sa mise en situation pratique ont des effets performatifs dans la configuration des identités et la transformation du paysage culturel et naturel. Le texte décrit les conflits socio-environnementaux autour de la route Yucumo-Rurrenabaque qui sépare d’un côté, Pilón Lajas un territoire de double statut juridique à la fois Aire protégée et Territoire collectif indigène titré a faveur des peuples Tsimane et Mosetene, et d’un autre côté, une aire de colonisation de communautés paysans de migrants andins Quechua et Aymara venus en Amazonie bolivienne á la suite de projets de développement rural et de colonisation des années 70. L’article décrit comment les conflits environnementaux sont activés localement par une route rudimentaire en tant qu’objet intermédiaire d’une politique publique et comment les différents cadrages juridiques imposés sur sa zone d’influence configurent les identités, les représentations et les pratiques de gestion de ressources naturelles de divers acteurs locaux.

Por mis hijos lo que sea... o casi. Identidades de madres y padres que han vivido un divorcio

From the discourses of divorced or separated (from generations born between 1965 and 1975), this article analyses the configuration of parental identities. Divorce involves reorganizing aspects of caring for children, encouraging reflection on self-parental identity. Our hypothesis problematizes the results of Solsona and Ferrer (2010), who emphasize the centrality of being mothers and fathers among the older generations. We highlight among the findings that men and women are redefining perceptions about their role as parents. Women displace motherhood at the same level of importance as other aspects of their life trajectories, while men tend to idealize parenthood.

Being a Female Cook in Mexico: an Approach to the Configuration of the Occupational Identities of Women in Mexican Kitchens at the Beginning of the Twenty-First Century

Throughout the history of Mexico, traditional cuisine has been associated with women. Nowadays, current economic conditions have forced more women to extrapolate the domestic culinary knowledge to public kitchens. In addition, the rise and popularisation of culinary education has allowed the recruitment of more women in extra-domestic kitchens. While preparing food, these women share the way they see the world in the meanings they confer to the culinary work. These similarities make these women be perceived as social actors characterised by shared values, attitudes and capabilities. This article analyses the social dynamics that take place in the configuration of the occupational identities of women in Mexican public kitchens of the twenty-first century.

A respeito da materialidade do patrimônio imaterial: o caso do INRC Porongos

O colecionamento e a conservação de "bens culturais" vêm ganhando em complexidade pela inclusão de temas oriundos de minorias étnicas e econômicas. Apesar do consenso relativo ao conceito de patrimônio cultural proposto pela Unesco, a definição do que deve ser preservado e celebrado como "bem cultural" pode ser objeto de lutas políticas, jurídicas, econômicas e sociais. Visando refletir sobre as consequências dessas lutas, este artigo aborda o processo de inventário de referências culturais em torno do Massacre de Porongos, evento da Revolução Farroupilha (1835-1845) que vem servindo de apoio à configuração de uma identidade negra e gaúcha no Rio Grande do Sul. Segundo os autores, apesar de se apresentar no registro de "patrimônio imaterial", o processo de inventário possibilitou a fabricação de um "corpo" (de textos e imagens) e a delimitação de "lugares" (de memória) a partir dos quais os referentes culturais ditos "imateriais" vêm se inscrever.

Subjects of concern: troubling categories

Nursing is described by many as ‘practice based’: an appealing and irresistible phrase, a salve for professional self-doubt, and a position that has great utility when communicating the essence of nursing to others outside the profession. Yet this is also a political position, situated in a particular configuration of relationships, identities and histories. Nursing is a practice-based profession, but it is certainly not unique in this respect. To refuse intellectually diverse scrutiny on the premise that this is somehow incompatible with the ‘art’ of nursing and a ‘practical’ closeness to the patient cannot be defended.

Assisted Reproductive Technologies and Culture Change

In 1978, the world's first “test-tube” baby was born via in vitro fertilization (IVF). The past 30 years have seen the rapid evolution of many other assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs)—some are simple variants of IVF, whereas others bridge the fields of assisted reproduction and human genomics. As ARTs have evolved over time, so have social, cultural, legal, and ethical responses to them. Indeed, ARTs are a key symbol of our times, representing the growing prominence of biotechnologies in the configuration of individual, familial, and collective identities around the globe. This review highlights the scholarship of more than 50 anthropologists who are studying the effects of ARTs in many areas of social life, including the traditional anthropological domains of kinship, marriage, and the family, gender, religion, and biomedicine. Their research bespeaks both the destabilizing and the generative impacts of ARTs at the interface between science and society.

A pesquisa como recurso da formação e da construção de uma nova identidade docente: notas para uma discussão inicial

Defende como tese a necessidade de uma formação de atitudes de pesquisa por parte dos docentes ligada à construção de uma nova profissionalidade e de novas identidades pessoais e profissionais. A identidade passa a ser uma categoria estruturante no novo agir profissional, no qual a pesquisa se constitui num de seus elementos. Analisa ainda os saberes e os espaços que contribuem para a configuração das identidades, em especial a formação inicial e a escola, sendo esta última considerada como focus da formação continuada e do de¬senvolvimento profissional. A temática tem sido objeto de estudos do Grupo Formação e Profissionalização Docente, do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação, da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), criado em 1995 e coordenado pelos autores do artigo

Callaloo e Caruru: em busca do legado africano nas comidas - identidades do Atlântico Negro

Este artigo propõe investigar a contribuição de comidas tradicionais - o Caruru de Salvador, Bahia e o Callaloo de Trinidad e Tobago - na configuração da identidade do grupo que as consome. Analisarei estes pratos relacionado-os a outros produtos culturais criados por estas comunidades, tal como música, literatura, religião, buscando repetições e diferenças nas construções culturais e identitárias destas regiões visando apresentar o estudo de comida como uma metáfora produtiva destas culturas.

Auger parameters and screening mechanisms in the 4d and 5d metals.

We report measurements of ${\mathit{L}}_{3}$${\mathit{M}}_{4,5}$${\mathit{M}}_{4,5}$ Auger spectra for Nb, Mo, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, In, Sn, and Sb. Detailed calculations indicate that the spectra are well described by the intermediate-coupling scheme, as we illustrate for In. The notion that the core-hole states are completely relaxed implies that the Auger parameter is the sum of a slowly varying core term and a term that is sensitive to the valence-electron configuration but independent of the core-level identities, which seems to be borne out by the ${\mathit{L}}_{3}$${\mathit{M}}_{4,5}$${\mathit{M}}_{4,5}$ and ${\mathit{M}}_{5}$${\mathit{N}}_{4,5}$${\mathit{N}}_{4,5}$ Auger parameters. The theoretical systematics of a model involving the quasiatomic picture indicates that the valence-electron contribution to the Auger parameter can be isolated. Comparison of the ${\mathit{L}}_{3}$${\mathit{M}}_{4,5}$${\mathit{M}}_{4,5}$ and ${\mathit{M}}_{5}$${\mathit{N}}_{4,5}$${\mathit{N}}_{4,5}$ results is consistent with the idea that the d-band holes behave as core holes in the screening process. Furthermore, it appears that certain of the screening parameters can be extracted from the data, resulting in values in reasonable agreement with independent calculations and in good agreement with experiment. Calculations for the 5d series are in good agreement with experiment, and we illustrate the separate contributions to the Auger parameter and the influence of screening in this case.

Palabra, Imagen y Símbolo en el Nuevo Mundo: De las “imágenes memorativas” de fr. Diego Valadés (1579) a la emblemática política de Guamán Poma de Ayala (1615)

Desde el esquema clásico per locos et imagines (propio de la memoria artificial), en este estudio analizamos las relaciones entre palabra, imagen y símbolo en la América colonial. Para ello, nos centraremos en la Rhetorica cristiana de fr. Diego Valadés (1579) y la Primer nueva corónica y buen gobierno (1615) de Guamán Poma. Ambas obras incluyen imágenes de diversa naturaleza: unas son eurocéntricas y estereotipadas de la “otredad” (Valadés) y otras, más retóricas y simbólicas, son el resultado de dos cosmovisiones (Poma de Ayala), pero ambas, producto del buen manejo de las artes de la memoria que ahora se presentan como útil recurso para la configuración de nuevos imaginarios e identidades.
