Structure elucidation {single X-ray crystal diffraction studies, Hirshfeld surface analysis, DFT} and antibacterial studies of 1,2-benzothiazine metal complexes

The 2-benzyl-4‑hydroxy-1,1-dioxo-1,2-benzothiazine-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester i.e., ligand 1 was utilized to synthesize Mn(II) 2, Co(II) 3, Ni(II) 4, Cu(II) 5 and Zn(II) 6 derived metal complexes in mild basic conditions. The structural investigation was carried out by UV–vis, FT-IR, NMR spectroscopy, CHN analysis, conductivity measurement, ESI-MS analysis and magnetic susceptibility techniques. The X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the octahedral and distorted square pyramidal geometries of the cobalt and copper complexes. The ligand 1 coordinated with metal centres through enolic oxygen atoms of the thiazine ring and ester group while methanol coordinated with metal center via oxygen atom. The Hirshfeld surface analysis (HSA) was utilized to determine the intermolecular interactions. In support of the experimental data, DFT studies were also performed for the cobalt and copper complexes. The NBO analysis resulted in the large stabilization values 11.91 and 12.35 kcal/mol for the cobalt and copper complexes. The global reactivity indicated the higher values of hardness and the large values of FMO analysis which support the higher stability of the metal complexes. The synthesized compounds were also evaluated against six bacterial strains to check their antibacterial potential. It was observed from results that highest activity was depicted by copper complex 5 against B. subtilis and the zone of inhibition is 23.4 ± 0.6 mm which is comparable to ampicillin (standard drug).

Numerical Measurement of the Effective Electrical Conductivity of Electrolyte-Gas Bubble Dispersions

Bubble formation during water electrolysis is inevitable. Apart from mass and heat transfer limitations, the presence of these bubbles causes a decrease in the local electrical conductivity of the electrolyte, thereby contributing further to the ohmic resistance of the system. Experimental and theoretical studies have shown that the effective electrical conductivity of an electrolyte-gas bubble dispersion depends on the volume fraction of gas bubbles. However, these studies do not provide insight into the dependence of conductivity on the geometric and spatial parameters of the dispersion, such as the size distribution of the bubbles or their spatial arrangement.Experimentally, the conductivity of such dispersions can be measured using the four-electrode conductivity measurement technique. In this talk, I will present a numerical rendition of this experimental technique to measure the conductivity of an electrolyte dispersed with gas bubbles, using the lattice Boltzmann method. The computational nature of the method lends itself well to investigating systems with different bubble size distributions and spatial configurations. The model also offers the flexibility to specify the surface charge density of the dispersed bubbles. The visualization of the ionic flux around these dispersed bubbles provides insights into the motion of ions along the paths of least resistance, and therefore a better understanding of the behavior of such systems.The effective conductivity of bubble dispersions with varying degrees of randomness in their spatial arrangement has been measured, ranging from a regularly packed array of bubbles to a completely random packing. We observed that the numerically measured conductivity deviates from that predicted theoretically at high bubble volume fractions. Moreover, for the same bubble volume fraction, different spatial arrangements yield different values of conductivity, thus highlighting the influence of spatial arrangement of the bubbles on the effective conductivity of the dispersion. Additionally, the spread (standard deviation) of the numerically measured conductivity about the mean value for a given bubble volume fraction is observed to be larger at moderate volume fractions, in comparison to very dilute and densely packed dispersions. This can be explained by the fact that at moderate bubble volume fractions, there is a larger probability for the formation of random bubble clusters that hinder the movement of ions. Such clusters are unlikely in dilute cases and are universal in the dense limit, and as a consequence, less variation in the resulting effective conductivity is observed for the two limiting cases. This furthermore indicates the importance of spatial arrangement on the effective conductivity of such dispersions.

Measuring and Enhancing the Ionic Conductivity of Chloroaluminate Electrolytes for Al-Ion Batteries.

At the core of the aluminum (Al) ion battery is the liquid electrolyte, which governs the underlying chemistry. Optimizing the rheological properties of the electrolyte is critical to advance the state of the art. In the present work, the chloroaluminate electrolyte is made by reacting AlCl3 with a recently reported acetamidinium chloride (Acet-Cl) salt in an effort to make a more performant liquid electrolyte. Using AlCl3:Acet-Cl as a model electrolyte, we build on our previous work, which established a new method for extracting the ionic conductivity from fitting voltammetric data, and in this contribution, we validate the method across a range of measurement parameters in addition to highlighting the model electrolytes' conductivity relative to current chloroaluminate liquids. Specifically, our method allows the extraction of both the ionic conductivity and voltammetric data from a single, simple, and routine measurement. To bring these results in the context of current methods, we compare our results to two independent standard conductivity measurement techniques. Several different measurement parameters (potential scan rate, potential excursion, temperature, and composition) are examined. We find that our novel method can resolve similar trends in conductivity to conventional methods, but typically, the values are a factor of two higher. The values from our method, on the other hand, agree closely with literature values reported elsewhere. Importantly, having now established the approach for our new method, we discuss the conductivity of AlCl3:Acet-Cl-based formulations. These electrolytes provide a significant improvement (5-10× higher) over electrolytes made from similar Lewis base salts (e.g., urea or acetamide). The Lewis base salt precursors have a low economic cost compared to state-of-the-art imidazolium-based salts and are non-toxic, which is advantageous for scale-up. Overall, this is a noteworthy step at designing cost-effective and performant liquid electrolytes for Al-ion battery applications.

Analyzing the modulations induced in the mixed micellar behavior of 1-alkyl-3-butylimidazolium based surface-active ionic liquids with an antibiotic drug in aqueous media

Abstract The study aims to scrutinize the mixed micellization and interfacial behavior of two 1-alkyl-3-butylimidazolium based surface-active ionic liquids (SAILs) i.e., 1-decyl-3-butylimidazolium bromide [C10bim][Br] and 1-tetradecyl-3-butylimidazolium bromide [C14bim][Br] under the influence of streptomycin sulphate (SS) drug in 5 mM concentration in aqueous media. Imidazolium-based SAILs have unique physicochemical properties and greater surface activity than conventional surfactants, which allows them to increase drug permeability, making them better drug carriers than currently available formulations. To fully utilize [C14bim][Br] and [C10bim][Br] in drug delivery applications, deep insight into the interactions occurring in the mixed micellar [C10bim][Br]/[C14bim][Br] systems in the drug’s presence are necessary to be examined. Thus, the study is conducted using conductivity and surface tension measurement techniques to fully exploit the self-assembly, micellization behavior and interactions occurring in the pure and mixed micellar system of [C10bim][Br]/[C14bim][Br] in water and 5 mM of SS solution in aqueous media. For this, various thermodynamic, surface-active and mixed micellar parameters of micellization have been calculated and analyzed with respect to change in mole fraction, temperature and addition of SS in solution.

Depth-dependent recovery of thermal conductivity after recrystallization of amorphous silicon

The depth-dependent recovery of silicon thermal conductivity was achieved after the recrystallization of silicon that had been partially amorphized due to ion implantation. Transmission electron microscopy revealed nanoscale amorphous pockets throughout a structurally distorted band of crystalline material. The minimum thermal conductivity of as-implanted composite material was 2.46 W m−1 K−1 and was found to be uniform through the partially amorphized region. X-ray diffraction measurements reveal 60% strain recovery of the crystalline regions after annealing at 450 °C for 30 min and almost full strain recovery and complete recrystallization after annealing at 700 °C for 30 min. In addition to strain recovery, the amorphous band thickness reduced from 240 to 180 nm after the 450 °C step with nanoscale recrystallization within the amorphous band. A novel depth-dependent thermal conductivity measurement technique correlated thermal conductivity with the structural changes, where, upon annealing, the low thermal conductivity region decreases with the distorted layer thickness reduction and the transformed material shows bulk-like thermal conductivity. Full recovery of bulk-like thermal conductivity in silicon was achieved after annealing at 700 °C for 30 min. After the 700 °C anneal, extended defects remain at the implant projected range, but not elsewhere in the layer. Previous results showed that high point-defect density led to reduced thermal conductivity, but here, we show that point defects can either reform into the lattice or evolve into extended defects, such as dislocation loops, and these very localized, low-density defects do not have a significant deleterious impact on thermal conductivity in silicon.

Anisotropic thermal conductivity in two-dimensional van der Waals crystals

Understanding thermal energy transport of crystalline materials, often highly dependent on their crystalline directions, is crucial for energy harvesting and thermal management applications. In this sense, anisotropy in thermal conductivity (<i>κ</i>), which is the unique characteristic of two-dimensional (2D) materials involving graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), has been attracting tremendous attention in terms of fundamental science and application-driven technology aspects. This distinctive heat transport behavior of 2D van der Waals (vdW) materials generally originates from their intrinsic crystal structures and associated lattice vibrations. Here, we thoroughly review and summarize the anisotropic thermal conductivity in 2D vdW crystals in two different categories: 1) in-plane vs. out-of-plane and 2) between two different in-plane directions. In addition, we introduce a range of thermal conductivity measurement techniques that can be employed for 2D vdW materials provided with their working principles, advantages, and limitations. Beyond their intrinsic anisotropic ratio, we conclude with perspectives on the extrinsic modulations of thermal conductivities, thereby maximizing it toward effective thermal management.

Synthesis, characterization, biological studies and DFT study of Schiff Bases and their complexes derived from aromatic diamine compounds with cobalt (II)

Based on vanillin and diamine compounds (ortho phenylene diamine, meta phenylene diamine, 3,4- diamine toluene), derivation of two new Schiff base ligands (L1 and L2) was done, after which synthesis and treatment with Co (II) chloride was performed at a metal-to-ligand ratio of 1:1 to get two new complexes, i.e. [CoL3(H2O)2]Cl2 and [CoL1(H2O)2]Cl2. These complexes and ligands were characterized by employing NMR, IR, atomic absorption, UV visible absorption, molecular weight determination, molar conductance, and magnetic measurement techniques. As per the data, the ligands were found to be bidentate ligands that were linked to two azomethine nitrogen sites. It was suggested that these complexes were paramagnetic electrolyte compounds that possessed coordination number four. Screening of the ligands and metal complexes was done to assess their antimicrobial activities against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, which was found to show biological activity. Calculations using quantum chemistry were done to examine the molecule geometry. The investigation includes several quantum chemical characteristics derived from frontier molecular orbitals. Role of hemp fiber addition on thermal stability, heat insulation, air permeability and cellular structural features of rigid polyurethane foam

In this current study, rigid polyurethane foams (RPUFs) composites were prepared using different percentage (3, 6, 9 and 12%) of the hemp fibers via one-shut one-step polymerization method. The influences of the hemp fiber addition on the RPUFs were investigated meticulously by means of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), thermal conductivity measurement and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques by evaluating the alternations in the chemical structures of the component, thermal stability, apparent density, insulation performance and cellular topology of the produced samples. The structural analysis revealed that there existed the strong secondary chemical bonds between the functional groups belonging to the components and, depending on that, the improvement in the thermal stability of the foam samples was recorded accompanied by the formation of the better interfacial adhesion. Furthermore, thermal conductivity values of the hemp fiber-loaded RPUFs were observed to increase regularly with the increasing of the content level of the hemp fibers. This was explained by enhancement in the bulk phase conduction level depending of the apparent density rising, reduction in CO2 concentration inside cells as well as the formation of the distorted cellular structures. The obtained air permeability results displayed that the hemp fibers incorporated successfully with RPUF structure, which provides the occurrence of the novel micro barriers and pathways limiting the passage of the air throughout the matrix. The taken scanning electron microscopy images also indicated that the cellular morphology and dimensional stability of the produced foams affected negatively by the hemp fiber addition. At high contents, the wrinkled, non-uniform and irregular cellular structures were observed with ruptured and collapsed walls and struts.

A recent overview of surfactant-drug interactions and their importance.

This review focuses on the self-aggregation properties of different drugs, as well as on their interaction with anionic, cationic, and gemini surfactants. The interaction of drugs with surfactants has been reviewed concerning conductivity, surface tension, viscosity, density, and UV-Vis spectrophotometric measurements, and their relation with critical micelle concentration (CMC), cloud point, and binding constant. The conductivity measurement technique is used for the micellization of ionic surfactants. Cloud point studies can be used for the non-ionic, and also for certain ionic surfactants. Usually, surface tension studies are mostly employed for non-ionic surfactants. The degree of dissociation that is determined is used to evaluate thermodynamic parameters of micellization at various temperatures. The effect of external parameters like temperature, salt, solvent, pH, etc., is discussed for thermodynamics parameters using recent experimental works on drug-surfactant interactions. Consequences of drug-surfactant interaction, condition of drugs during interaction with surfactants, and applications of drug-surfactant interaction are being generalized which reflects current and future potential uses of drug-surfactant interactions.

ELECTROCONDUCTIVE POLYAMIDE FIBERS WITH GREEN SYNTHESIZED SILVER NANOPARTICLES

The objective of this research is to study antibacterial and antistatic properties of polyamide yarn which coated silver nanoparticles and carboxymethylstarch (CMS). Silver nanoparticles were synthesized by a green synthesis method and coated onto polyamide (PA) fibers. The presence of nanosilver onto yarns was confirmed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), UV–visible spectra (UV-Vis) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The concentration of silver deposited on the composite PA yarns was measured by ICP-OES spectroscopy. Electrical conductivity of composite yarns was measured by four point conductivity measurement technique and was changed from 1.452x10-5 to 2.853x10-3 S/cm.

Thermal Conductivity of Nanoporous Materials: Where Is the Limit?

Nowadays, our society is facing problems related to energy availability. Owing to the energy savings that insulators provide, the search for effective insulating materials is a focus of interest. Since the current insulators do not meet the increasingly strict requirements, developing materials with a greater insulating capacity is needed. Until now, several nanoporous materials have been considered as superinsulators achieving thermal conductivities below that of the air 26 mW/(m K), like nanocellular PMMA/TPU, silica aerogels, and polyurethane aerogels reaching 24.8, 10, and 12 mW/(m K), respectively. In the search for the minimum thermal conductivity, still undiscovered, the first step is understanding heat transfer in nanoporous materials. The main features leading to superinsulation are low density, nanopores, and solid interruptions hindering the phonon transfer. The second crucial condition is obtaining reliable thermal conductivity measurement techniques. This review summarizes these techniques, and data in the literature regarding the structure and thermal conductivity of two nanoporous materials, nanocellular polymers and aerogels. The key conclusion of this analysis specifies that only steady-state methods provide a reliable value for thermal conductivity of superinsulators. Finally, a theoretical discussion is performed providing a detailed background to further explore the lower limit of superinsulation to develop more efficient materials.

Study on energy storage performance of thermally enhanced composite phase change material of calcium nitrate tetrahydrate

In this study, a layer of nano-alumina film was coated on the EG surface and the matrix material was then mixed with molten calcium nitrate tetrahydrate salt to form a CPCM (MEG-CN4W). The prepared materials were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometer, contact angle measurement, thermal conductivity measurement and other techniques. When MEG has a mass ratio of 8% ~ 10%, the average phase transition enthalpy value of MEG-CN4W is 123 J/g, the phase transition temperature is 42.7 °C, and the peak temperature is 49.7 °C. The average activation energy of this CPCM is lower than that of CN4W. The thermal conductivity is 13 times higher than CN4W. On this basis, the cyclic thermal stability analysis of CPCM was carried out. MEG-CN4W was found to be stably and highly adsorbed on the expanded graphite surface after 200 heat storage-release cycles without liquid leakage. The phase change temperature and enthalpy value remained nearly unchanged, indicating that the prepared CPCM has potential application prospects.

Proton Conductivity of La2(Hf2−xLax)O7−x/2 “Stuffed” Pyrochlores

The design of new oxygen- and proton-conducting materials is of paramount importance for their possible utilization in solid oxide fuel cells. In the present work, La2(Hf2–xLax)O7–x/2 (x = 0, 0.1) ceramics were prepared using ball milling of oxide mixtures (La2O3 and HfO2) followed by high-temperature annealing at 1600 °C for 10 h in air. La2Hf2O7 ceramics exhibit an ordered pyrochlore-type structure, whereas La2(Hf1.9La0.1)O6.95 has a defect pyrochlore structure type with oxygen vacancies at the 48f positions. The oxygen ion and proton conductivity of La2(Hf1.9La0.1)O6.95 “stuffed” pyrochlore ceramics was investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (two-probe AC) and four-probe DC measurements in a dry and a wet atmosphere (air and nitrogen). The use of two distinct conductivity measurement techniques ensured, for the first time, the collection of reliable data on the proton conductivity of the La2(Hf1.9La0.1)O6.95 “stuffed” hafnate pyrochlore. La2Hf2O7 was found to be a dielectric in the range 400–900 °C, whereas the La2(Hf1.9La0.1)O6.95 “stuffed” pyrochlore had both oxygen ion and proton conductivities in this temperature range. The proton conductivity level was found to be equal to ~8 × 10−5 S/cm at 700 °C. Clearly, the proton conductivity of the La2(Hf1.9La0.1)O6.95 “stuffed” hafnate pyrochlore is mainly due to the hydration of oxygen vacancies at 48f positions.

Influence of an antibiotic drug neomycin sulphate on mixed micellization behavior of imidazolium based surface-active ionic liquids in aqueous media

Imidazolium-based surface-active ionic liquids (SAILs) have unique physicochemical features that make them ideal for biomedical applications. Because SAILs have a higher surface activity than conventional surfactants, they can improve drug permeability across biomembranes, making them superior drug carriers than existing solutions. In-depth studies of interactions prevailing in mixed micellar system of SAILs in the presence of drug are required to fully exploit the promise of these materials in drug delivery applications. Thus, various thermodynamic, mixed micellar and surface-active properties of two imidazolium-based SAILs with different cationic structures i.e.1-dodecyl-3-ethylimidazolium bromide [C12eim][Br] and 1-dodecyl-3-butylimidazolium bromide [C12bim][Br] have been determined in water and 5 mM neomycin sulphate solution in aqueous media. The study has been conducted for different mole fractions of mixed micellar system of SAILs using conductivity and surface tension measurement techniques. Various theoretical models such as Clint, Rubingh, Motomura and Rodenas models have been applied to understand the interactions prevailing in the mixed [C12eim][Br] /[C12bim][Br] system in water and neomycin sulphate solution in aqueous media.

Influences of NaCl and Na2SO4 on the Micellization Behavior of the Mixture of Cetylpyridinium Chloride + Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone at Several Temperatures.

Herein, the conductivity measurement technique is used to determine the interactions that may occur between polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) polymer and cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) surfactant in the presence of NaCl and Na2SO4 of fixed concentration at variable temperatures (298.15–323.15 K) with an interval of 5 K. In the absence or presence of salts, we observed three critical micelle concentrations (CMC) for the CPC + PVP mixture. In all situations, CMC1 values of CPC + PVP system were found to be higher in water than in attendance of salts (NaCl and Na2SO4). Temperature and additives have the tendency to affect counterion binding values. Various physico-chemical parameters were analyzed and demonstrated smoothly, including free energy (ΔG0m), enthalpy (ΔH0m) and entropy change (ΔS0m). The micellization process is achieved to be spontaneous based on the obtained negative ΔG0m values. The linearity of the and values is excellent. The intrinsic enthalpy gain (ΔH0*m) and compensation temperature (Tc) were calculated and discussed with logical points. Interactions of polymer hydrophobic chains or the polymer + surfactant associated with amphiphilic surface-active drugs can employ a strong impact on the behavior of the gels.

Spatial mapping of disordered 2D systems: The conductance Sudoku

Motivated by recent advances on local conductance measurement techniques at the nanoscale, timely questions are being raised about what possible information can be extracted from a disordered graphene sheet by selectively interrogating its transport properties. Here we demonstrate how an inversion technique originally developed to identify the number of scatterers in a quantum device can be adapted to a multi-terminal setup in order to provide detailed information about the spatial distribution of impurities on the surface of graphene, as well as other 2D material systems. The methodology input are conductance readings (for instance, as a function of the chemical potential) between different electrode pairs, the output being the spatially resolved impurity density. We discuss how the obtained spatial resolution depends on the number of such readings and on the electrode geometry. Furthermore, by separating the impurity locations into partitions arranged in a grid-like geometry, this inversion procedure resembles a Sudoku puzzle in which the compositions of different sectors of a device are found by imposing that they must add up to specific constrained values established for the grid rows and columns. We argue that this technique may provide alternative new ways of extracting information from a disordered material through the selective probing of local quantities.

Probing peptide nanowire conductivity by THz nanoscopy

Significant efforts have recently been invested in assessing the physical and chemical properties of microbial nanowires for their promising role in developing alternative renewable sources of electricity, bioelectronic materials and implantable sensors. One of their outstanding properties, the ever-desirable conductivity has been the focus of numerous studies. However, the lack of a straightforward and reliable method for measuring it seems to be responsible for the broad variability of the reported data. Routinely employed methods tend to underestimate or overestimate conductivity by several orders of magnitude. In this work, synthetic peptide nanowires conductivity is interrogated employing a non-destructive measurement technique developed on a terahertz scanning near-field microscope to test if peptide aromaticity leads to higher electrical conductivity. Our novel peptide conductivity measurement technique, based on triple standards calibration method, shows that in the case of two biopolymer mimicking peptides, the sample incorporating aromatic residues (W6) is about six times more conductive than the negative control (L6). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a quantitative nano-scale terahertz s-SNOM investigation of peptides. These results prove the suitability of the terahertz radiation-based non-destructive approach in tandem with the designer peptides choice as model test subjects. This approach requires only simple sample preparation, avoids many of the pitfalls of typical contact-based conductivity measurement techniques and could help understanding fundamental aspects of nature’s design of electron transfer in biopolymers.

Micellization, interaction and thermodynamics behavior of BSA + SDS mixture in aqua-organic mixed solvent: Influences of temperature and solvent composition

The interaction of bovine serum albumin (BSA) with sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) in aqueous medium as well as aqua-organic mixed media has been performed using the conductivity measurement technique at several temperatures. The experiments were performed in the temperature ranges of 298.15–313.15 K with a gap of 5 K. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) and the degree of micelle ionization (α) have been computed from the specific conductivity versus the surfactant concentration plot. The CMC values achieved in the present study are dependent on the concentration of BSA, composition of the mixed solvent, and a variation of experimental temperature. For SDS + BSA mixture, an increase of BSA concentration causes a decrease in the values of CMC. Also, the values of CMC of SDS + BSA system in water-organic solvents were found to follow the order: CMCwater-DMF > CMCwater-AN > CMCwater-DMSO > CMCwater. In every case examined, the association of SDS + BSA mixture was spontaneous (negative ΔG0m). On the basis of observed ΔH0m and ΔS0m values for the SDS + BSA mixed system, it is expected that an electrostatic, hydrophobic, and ion–dipole interactions are in effect between SDS and BSA species, whereas the hydrophobic interaction is believed to be the main driving force for the aggregation process. In each of the case thoroughly detected, a linear relationship between ΔH0m and ΔS0m values was viewed, which is a strong indication in favor of the presence of enthalpy–entropy compensation phenomenon in the overall interaction process.

Influences of alcohol/polyols on interaction of moxifloxacin hydrochloride through cetyltrimethylammonium bromide at numerous temperatures and compositions

A study on the interaction of a fourth-generation antibiotic drug, moxifloxacin hydrochloride (MFH), with a cationic surfactant, such as cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) in the aqueous solution of alcohol (1-propanol (1-PrOH)) and polyols (galactose/maltose), has been carried out using the conductivity measurement technique. The critical micelle concentration (cmc), micelle ionisation (α), counter ion binding (β), and thermodynamic properties (, , and ) for the self-aggregation of MFH + CTAB mixture have been estimated in 1-PrOH/polyols solutions. The presence of 1-PrOH delays the MFH + CTAB micelle formation, whereas polyols create a congenial environment for the micelle formation. In 1-PrOH, the values of α experience a reduction with the increase of 1-PrOH concentration and temperature. The values of α were found to be dependent on the concentration of other additives. In all of the cases thoroughly studied, the values of were found negative, which experience an enhancement in polyols solutions and decreased in 1-PrOH solution. On the basis of and values, the suggested interaction forces between MFH and surfactant are hydrophobic, ion-dipole, and electrostatic in nature. The values of reveal that the micelle is more stable in polyols media than that of the 1-PrOH medium.
