Denominative variation in the terminological representation of Women's Health

Medical language is characterized by its veracity, precision and clarity (Navarro, 2003). However, due to the different communicative situations and contexts in which it is used, it is one of the special languages with more terminological variation (Bowker and Hawkins, 2006). From the point of view of terminology work, in any of its applications: language planning, standardization or translation, the first steps consist of structuring the subject area and accurately define the conceptual field (Cabré, 2005; ISO, 2022; Wright, 1997), and variation is usually an obstacle during this stage. This paper presents the findings of a study for the elaboration of terminological resources on Women’s Health from a corpus of specialized academic articles in English. Preliminary results reveal a lack of uniformity in the identification of the most representative lexical units regarding issues that specifically affect Women’s Health. This analysis offers a typology of denominative variation in the subject field of Women’s Health in academic journals in English prior to initiate the delimitation of the conceptual field in Spanish and standardize terminology equivalence in order to ensure efficient communication.

In my article, I discuss the definitional challenges concerning the concept of futile therapy and review and evaluate the strategies and definitional proposals that have appeared in the literature. Difficulties in adequately defining the concept of futile therapy are typical of the definitional problems encountered in defining medical notions, especially in relation to end-of-life procedures, where we are faced with a field of inadequately defined concepts with overlapping meanings and scopes. In addition to futile therapy, this conceptual field consists of ‘ordinary’ (proportionate) and ‘extraordinary’ (disproportionate) means, as well as the concept of the patient's best interests. In the Polish medical literature, this picture is further complicated by the use of the term ‘overzealous therapy’.

Philosophical anthropology, which arose each time in a specific historical reality, sought to create a universal image of man, calling this process the revelation of his essence. This problem was solved by Russian philosophy, which developed the Orthodox Christian tradition within certain historical boundaries. Modern philosophy, solving this problem, cannot ignore the basic philosophical and anthropological ideas of different civilizations, primarily Eastern, Western and Russian philosophy. The space for their comparison and synthesis can be the semantic conceptual field of sociogenesis, which opens up a universal approach to the formation of a human being as a global cultural and biological species. The sociogenetic approach reveals the opportunity to compare two main essential models of man, which are represented by the version of the self-sufficient individual, which developed in the European Enlightenment, and the version of the conciliar (communal) man, the discussion of which began in Russian philosophy of the 19th century. In the context of sociogenesis, the basis for distinguishing anthropological versions is the opposition of individualistic and communal (conciliar) principles of behavior. A specifi c synthesis of these principles in one or another cultural-historical model appears as a solution to the contradiction between the individual and species model of behavior within the cultural-biological species “human being”. In the natural world, the coordination of individual and species behavior is resolved through the genetic inheritance of species behavior, eliminating the conflict between species and individual. The sociogenetic evolution of a human being has posed the task of searching for species-specifi c universal principles of behavior, which has complicated the solution of the problem of harmonizing species and individual behavior. The complexity of the situation is that human behavior is directed by cultural programs in the context of a sociogenetic search for a species program capable of ensuring the global consolidation of the human species. In this context, philosophical anthropology requires a sociogenetic support, and the appeal to it can be called the “sociogenetic turn” in philosophical anthropology.

National Question and Its Resolution: Semantics of Ethnic Disintegration and Integration in Russian History Textbooks of 20th-21st Centuries

This article addresses the issue of verbalizing the semantics of ethnic disintegration (separation) and integration (unity) through terminological means. The study is based on an analysis of 40 combinations featuring the word “nation” and its derivatives, which are regularly employed in contemporary educational publications on Russian history from the 20th to the 21st century. The aim of this work is to describe the conceptual fields of ethnic disintegration or integration as represented by the terminological tools of educational historical discourse. Through a logical-semantic approach, the boundaries of the terminologies of disintegration / integration and their logical models are identified; the semantics of individual terminological units are described, including their axiological potentials. The structures of the conceptual fields represented by combinations with “nation” and its derivatives are delineated. The author concludes that the terms “national question” and “resolution of the national question” serve as foundational nominations within educational historical discourse, organizing the terminological systems of disintegration and integration. These terms are interpreted as opposing yet complementary fields that reflect the states of the nation and state in their opposition (political distancing of the nation from the state) or identification (political unity), encompassing a border zone filled with characteristics that facilitate the transition of the nation and state from one state to another.

Axiological paradigm in the Russian picture of the world (based on F. M. Dostoevsky’s novel "The Brothers Karamazov")

The article defines the concept of "axiological paradigm" in its broad and narrow senses. Additionally, it considers axiological paradigm types, describes units with value-expressed content belonging to different levels. The characterisation of the anthropocentric paradigm of the conceptual field of the axiological paradigm is formed on the basis of the identified genetic semes and sense-making principles. They reflect the types of human relationships with reality and unreality and determine the boundaries of the core and peripheral zones of the field. Axiological meanings are conveyed primarily by verbs, nouns, and adjectives since these categories are the main expressors of the internal properties and semantic features of a particular conceptual field. Qualitative-quantitative differences in meanings are reflected both in the axiological paradigm and in the literary text: the creation of the lexical semantic field "Value", the use of linguistic units characterising material, intellectual, and spiritual values. The concepts "Faith", "Family", "Honour" dominate the linguo-cognitive axiological paradigm. They reveal the relationship between language, thinking, and communication. In the Russian picture of the world, the dominating moral and spiritual values not only convey the attitude towards God, but also become a qualitative characteristic of man. The analysis of the axiological paradigm in the Russian world picture is performed using the text of F. M. Dostoevsky’s novel "The Brothers Karamazov". The narrator devotes his careful attention to the establishment of moral values, the religious and philosophical beliefs of the characters in the novel, as well as their relationships and conflicts which are based on these values.

Exploring AI Applications for Addressing Alternative Conceptions in Teaching Physics: Focus on Electrical Circuits at the Secondary Level

This article introduces our initial foray into a comprehensive, long-term study on the learning practices of high school students using chatbots as educational tools. In this section, we explore the correlation between the logic underlying the responses generated by two chatbots for problems related to electrical circuits and the well-known alternative conceptions prevalent in the field of science education. To achieve this, we employed a methodology involving the presentation of ten questions to the chatbots, followed by an analysis of their answers in conjunction with established knowledge in physics and the Theory of Conceptual Fields. The objective was to bridge the gap between AI-generated responses and human responses. Our primary findings reveal a close resemblance between these two groups. This initial endeavor lays the foundation for developing an investigative methodology that will facilitate a comprehensive understanding and categorization of the various forms of interaction between students and chatbots.

Understanding workload in occupational health research on nursing

Introduction: The concept of workload has been used by nursing with multiple meanings. Among them, we have considered patient dependency and nursing intensity. We propose to add to this understanding that workloads are biopsychic processes with effects on the worker’s body.Development: We discuss this theoretical concept based on the Latin American contribution and the importance of theory in the conceptual field. Final reflection: This discussion provides other theoretical ways to operate this concept in areas of research, focusing on the worker’s health. Also, this concept in nursing research helps to further study the work process and its relationship with health to analyze the contribution of each component of this in the health nursing workers.

The Role of Units Coordination in Preservice Elementary Teachers' Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching

ABSTRACT This study used units coordination as a theoretical lens to investigate how whole number and fraction reasoning may be related for preservice teachers at the conclusion of a math methods class. The study contributes quantitative evidence that units coordination provides a common foundation for both mathematical knowledge for teaching whole number addition and subtraction and for mathematical knowledge for teaching fraction multiplication and division. An analysis of PSTs’ written responses to two different types of tasks (referent unit and appropriateness of proportional reasoning) revealed that some aspects of mathematical knowledge for teaching rational number and the multiplicative conceptual field are associated with units coordination (referent unit tasks), whereas others are not (appropriateness tasks). A logistic regression of PSTs’ conceptions of multidigit number on their scores on these tasks provided empirical evidence that the most sophisticated conceptions of multidigit number (corresponding with having interiorized three levels of units) were associated with referent unit tasks but not associated with appropriateness of proportional reasoning tasks. Together, these findings support the claim that units coordination has promise for explaining the relationship between teachers’ mathematical knowledge for teaching multidigit addition and subtraction and fraction multiplication and division. Implications for teacher education are discussed.

The purpose of the study is to identify, based on the material of substantive vocabulary, the core of the nominative field of the concept of FRAUDSTER in the framework of modeling the cognitive structure of the situation of fraudulent interaction. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that in it the phenomenon of fraud is studied for the first time in the aspect of its linguocognitive interpretation – as a conceptual field with a propositional structure. The article defines and analyzes for the first time the lexical and semantic paradigms of nominations of persons involved in a fraudulent act. As a result, a variety of substances objectifying the phenomenon of fraud has been revealed. The high productivity of the fraudster's designations by type of activity in the modern media space was noted. A wide range of multilevel linguistic units has been found, marking the "falsity", "imaginary" social status of a fraudster. The active updating of the composition of lexical and semantic groups under the influence of extralinguistic factors, in particular the processes of digitalization of modern society, has been revealed. For the first time, collocations reflecting the associative rapprochement of a fraudster with other offenders in the Russian language consciousness are analyzed. The high pragmatic potential of the substantives forming the nominative field of the concept of FRAUDSTER is substantiated.

Dutch inspiration for an engaged pluralist historiography of geography

This paper introduces to an international audience the ‘encyclopaedic approach’ to geographical historiography. This approach was developed at the Free University of Amsterdam between 1961 and 1987 by Marcus Heslinga and Andries Kouwenhoven. Signalling how contemporary geography is hampered by the silofication of different subdisciplines and how a better understanding of our shared and pluriform histories can help overcome these silos, the encyclopaedic approach demonstrates how an ‘engaged pluralist’ historiography of geography could take shape. Testifying to its bridge-building character, the approach was developed in response to decades of acerbic conflict between rivalling schools of human geography in the Netherlands. Its central premises involve an acknowledgement that geography is a dynamic discipline with shifting formal and material objects and an empirical strategy to map and relate these different conceptual fields.

An in-depth examination of management interaction through employee voice dynamics in human resource management

Voice is a critical employee behavior that promotes ideas, concerns and ideas throughout the company. It is a frequent technique that learning the obstacles of leadership and issues that can affect the functioning of the corporation. In this paper, our primary goal of the research on employee voices, determine fields and the research findings on employee voice can be utilized as well as modified to be applied in other categories that illustrate the result in a more broad conception of employee voice. This review includes the fields of employee voice and Organizational Behavior (OB) coupled with Human Resource Management/Employment Relations (HRM/ER). It maintains by indicating the field's conceptions and assessments of employee voices that are distinct from one another. The impact of direct opinions from superiors, direct voice involvement and the mediating function that trust assumes are in those interactions. Based on significance, technique, process and voice management, it identifies their similarities and variations.

The Xenology of the Powder Keg of Europe: the Reflection of the Peculiarities of the Friend Oo Foe Dichotomy intThe Balkan Model of the World in the Xenopejorative Vocabulary of the Languages of The Balkan Sprachbund. Articulation of Issue

This article discusses the reflection of the features of the “friend or foe” dichotomy in the Balkan model of the world in the xenologic pejorative vocabulary of the Balkan sprachbund languages: Albanian, Aromanian, Bulgarian, Modern Greek, Macedonian, Romanian and Serbo-Croatian. The author gives a brief review of the historical, cultural and geopolitical specifics of the Balkan-Carpathian region, which influenced the local peoples’ ideas about strangers; some traditional mythological beliefs of the Balkan peoples related to the conceptual field of otherness are also presented. Based on the analysis of the internal history of the word, an attempt is made to define the main models for constructing derogatory names for strangers in order to compare the data for various Balkan languages and, to the extent possible, build an integral image of the concept of alien in the Balkan conceptual worldview. According to the results of the study, the xenopejorative vocabulary of languages of the Balkan sprachbund shows significant similarities both in terms of form and content. Pejoratives with undifferentiated evaluativity predominate, which could account for the richness of the Balkan derivational morphology and a large number of lexical borrowings in each of the languages; pejoratives with an indication of appearance, features of language and peculiarities of behaviour are also widely represented; however, the first are referentially limited, while the second and the third are universal, from which it is concluded that the prototypical Balkan alien is someone who speaks differently and behaves different-y. At the same time, the most common target for pejorative vocabulary in the Balkan languages among all strangers is the Romani people, which is due both to a number of stereotypical ideas about the physical and behavioural features of this ethnic group, and to the historical isolation caused by the nomadic way of life and the closedness of the Romani community from outsiders.

O wybranych archaizmach w polskiej leksyce ludycznej

SELECTED ARCHAISMS IN POLISH LUDIC LEXIS The article is dedicated to the history of old lexemes from the conceptual field of zabawa [play], which today are already archaisms: krotochwila [joke], krotochwilić [to joke], kłam [a lie], przekwint/ przekwinta [excessive elegance] and wydwarzanie [playing jokes]. The text is a contribution to the analysis of Polish ludic vocabulary in the diachronic aspect. The analysis is based on dictionaries and corpuses of historical Polish. A review of the history of just a few lexemes showed that, within the concept of ZABAWA, changes were taking place which included the withdrawal of lexemes present in this conceptual field from the beginning. These changes concerned both words whose presence in the field was strongly marked (krotochwilić, krotochwila), as well as those that appeared in it only occasionally (przekwinta, wydwarzanie). Regardless of this, all of them eventually left not only the conceptual field of PLAY, but also the Polish language in general.

Resources of curriculum materials that induce teachers' professional knowledge of the additive conceptual field

Assuming that curriculum materials reverberate the knowledge of teachers, we sought to identify and discuss features of the materials, related to the additive field, which induce professional knowledge in Mathematics. Through a documentary analysis of three 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade Mathematics Teacher's Manuals, the addition and subtraction problems were mapped and analyzed; the texts presenting the material and the units corresponding to the mapped problems were analyzed, as well as the specific guidelines for working with these problems. Considering the Conceptual Fields Theory and the Knowledge of Knowledge of Curriculum Embedded Mathematics as references, we identified a variety of problem classes, as well as guidelines on the different meanings of operations. We observed weaknesses in the approach taken in the 2nd grade Manual corresponding to the addition and subtraction approach, to the detriment of the other Manuals. We noted the absence of explicitly stated information in the three manuals, which may have an impact on the way teachers read and interpret the guidelines, and evaluate the problems, implying the teaching knowledge mobilized or constructed.

Engineering Professors' Conceptions on the Conceptual Field of Electrostatics in Mexico

This study explores the conceptual understanding of electromagnetism among physics professors at the Aeronautical University in Querétaro, Mexico. While student misconceptions in electromagnetism have been extensively studied, research on professors' understanding and its potential impact remains limited (Pardhan & Bano, 2001). This research aims to address this gap by focusing on the core concepts of electrostatic force, electric field, and electric potential. Eight professors participated in the study. Their academic background, electromagnetism course history, and teaching experience were documented. A three-tier diagnostic test, based on Vergnaud's theory of conceptual fields, was then used to assess their conceptualisation of these concepts and their interrelationships. The analysis revealed that only one professor consistently demonstrated correct understanding across all three concepts. Interestingly, this professor was also the one with the most extensive teaching experience in the subject. The results suggest a potential connection between teaching experience and a deeper conceptual understanding of electromagnetism. Further research is needed to explore this connection and its implications for mitigating student misconceptions through effective teaching practices.

Semantics and structure of the concept of “Bogatyrstvo” in epics and modern linguistic consciousness

The subject of the study is the concept of "Bogatyrstvo" and its structural and semantic features. Bogatyrstvo is inextricably linked with the hero and with the plot of epics. In epics, it is perceived as a concept-script, that is, it is formed in the process of the entire narrative. However, the original structure of the concept is presented as a conceptual field of meanings inscribed in a more complex structural formation – the ethical concept of "Courage". The relevance of the research is dictated by the high precedent of the name of the concept and its dominant verbalizers. The semantic field of the concept is explored in etymological, historical and topical layers. The main semantic load of the etymological layer of the concept is formed in the Church Slavonic language. The historical layer is vividly represented in the dictionaries of the XIX and XX centuries, the latter captures the limitation of the "existence" of the concept by the genre of epic. The actual layer is revealed in the process of studying the consciousness of modern students. The purpose of the article is to identify the reference points (slots) that formed the basis of the concept. A special contribution of the authors and the novelty of the study is the conduct of a semantic experiment, which established that in the minds of modern native speakers, the concept Bogatyrstvo, for which analysis methods were used (analysis of dictionary definitions and contextual analysis of epics), semantic analysis (the "supporting" semantic shares of the concept of "Bogatyrstvo" were identified, their key verbalizers were highlighted) and the method of semantic experiment to identify the modern perception of the concept. The main conclusions of the study: 1) the concept of "Bogatyrstvo" has a static frame structure and a field structure, including slots "spiritual strength" and "physical strength". Spiritual strength lies in the constant readiness to stand up for the motherland as a manifestation of true courage and heroism; in the fate of the hero-defender, ordained from above; in the Christian faith. The physical strength of the hero is, as it were, the personification of the whole strength of the Russian people, given by God. 2) These slots are present in the epics in the dynamic structure of the script: the slot "physical force" unfolds to the whole epic action; the slot "spiritual force" is expressed through the entire epic narrative – this is the very motivation for action. A special contribution of the authors and the novelty of the study is the conduct of a semantic experiment, which established that in the minds of modern native speakers, the concept of "Bogatyrstvo" is presented statically and includes both slots, with the predominance of the slot "spiritual power".

Peculiarities of Translating an Oral Text in the Field of Neuro-Legal and its Transformation into Written Text

Due to the practical usage of neuro-technologies in all areas of our life, lawyers make attempts to provide a legal definition of such a philosophical category as mind, which expresses the highest type of thinking activity, and to develop legal norms and standards in this field. The area of law that deals with the impact of neuroscience discoveries on the regulation of social relations is referred to as neurolaw. This branch of law is considered to be interdisciplinary establishing close connections with a spectrum of sciences such as neuropsychology, neurogenetics, neurobiology, neurosociology and many other neurosciences and links a brain with law. As a result this area of law often employs categories and concepts of those sciences. This is a reason for legal terminology in this field of law to be constantly broadened. New legal terms are of great interest to translators who create and analyze conceptual fields in the area of “neuro-law”. For translators it is a real challenge to deal with specialized legal texts when they can apply not only their translation skills, techniques and methods but also their knowledge in a particular field of neuro-technology application in the real sector of economy. The author of the article makes an attempt to reveal the peculiarities and features of translation of the texts which deal with human body enhancement technologies and legal issues related to their application. New legal terms and concepts are of great interest to understand a developing area of law.

Analysis and characterization of the categorical-conceptual field of the conceptual construction "innovative technologies in the field of physical education and sports"

The article highlights the categorical and conceptual field of the conceptual construction "innovative technologies in the field of physical education and sports", which is the basis for its construction; the characteristics of such concepts as: "technology", "innovation", "innovative activity in the field of education", "educational technology", "innovative educational program", "innovative educational project", "innovative educational product", "innovation cycle", "innovative technologies", "innovative technologies in the field of physical education and sports"; their interrelation and importance for education in general and specialists in the field of physical education, in particular, are presented.
 The analysis, synthesis and generalization of concepts and conceptual constructions of scientific and scientific-methodical literature, state nomenclature documents, as well as such research methods as: comparison, analysis of own long-term pedagogical experience in checking, reviewing qualification works of higher education applicants, including mastering and expert examination of dissertations, it was found that most higher education applicants do not pay due attention to the acquisition of special terminology during their studies in higher education, do not refer to the legislative and regulatory framework. At the same time, special terminology is always related to the content of a particular science, theory and practice of a particular field.
 It is noted that special terminology, including terminology in the field of physical education and sports, is an urgent necessity, the basis of professional communication, which requires in-depth knowledge, continuous development and improvement from specialists.
 It is emphasized that a clear understanding and correct use of the concepts and conceptual constructions mentioned in the article will allow specialists in the field of physical education and sports to correctly direct their efforts towards the development and implementation of innovative technologies in the theory and practice of physical education and sports, as well as contribute to improving the quality of their research work.

Пам’ять у лінгвістичному і соціокультурному вимірах

The article explores the linguistic characteristics of the concept of memory as one of the key cultural concepts among other meaningful ones — person, life, language, word. The starting point was the position that memory is a psychological category that is verbalized in different ways by linguistic means, models synonymous series, mental image forms. It is noted that the word-concept memory correlates with the words consciousness, memory, imagination, mind, knowledge through the prism of individual and collective experience of the past, and acts as a tool for evaluating human existence. In a comparative aspect, the semantics of the Ukrainian verb to remember and the Czech zapomnět, as well as the related nouns nezabudka and pomněnka, are considered. Verbs, having at first glance a similar grammatical structure, are characterized by antonymic meanings in modern literary languages. The factors that led the original semantic feature of the root pomn- (memor- [пам’ят-]) — «to remember» — to develop to the opposite meaning in the Czech verb zapomnět «to forget / not to remember something» are analyzed. It was noted that under the influence of other Slavic languages, the parallel use in the XVI–XVII c. in the Ukrainian language, two words — «пам’ятати / помнити» — led to the fact that the word to remember displaced the word to remember from usage. The semantics of ʽmemory’ in the interpretation of figurative means — metaphors and phraseology, which show signs of high semantic stability, reproducibility in the language from memory, and thus have the status of collective memories. The evidence presented in the article shows that the conceptual field of memory is structured by concepts that are relevant both for the individual and for the whole human community in a particular time dimension and have a high axiological potential.

THE LINGUISTIC PICTURE OF THE UNIVERSE IN THE HERITAGE OF KAZAKH BI-SPEAKERS

The article examines the linguistic worldview of the world in the heritage of Bi-speakers. The peculiarities of how the linguistic picture of the world is manifested through different concepts in the lexical layer are differentiated. The opinions of domestic and foreign researchers about the linguistic picture of the universe of the world are reflected in the Bi-speakers' heritage based on various concepts and includes achievements generated by human intelligence and the inherent qualities of humanity. The specificity of the "picture of the world" in linguistic content is revealed through the use of linguistic and cultural elements in the discourse of speakers who are connected to the "national picture of the world". This study examines the cognitive models of the concepts "life" and "death" in the discourse of the linguistic personality of Bi-speakers are considered, their expression in the conceptual field that reflects the linguistic and cognitive aspects of their personality
