AbstractDuring the past decades pulsed laser systems have motivated many novel laser material applications. Nowadays ultrashort pulse (USP) lasers are routinely used for machining and processing high‐tech materials like glass, sapphire or ceramics and allow the production of small and powerful smart phones, high efficient solar cells or medical devices. The next generation USP lasers will focus on smaller system dimensions, a reduced price and shorter pulses to allow for even higher precision and smaller structuring. The article will give an overview of USP laser technology and concepts for future system configurations.
