The physician assistant programs located on the two campuses of Midwestern University have eliminated the need for manual record keeping, scheduling, recording or data entry regarding students, preceptors or patient encounters by the development of two relational computerized database systems. The first system is the Clinical-Year Tracking System, a database which completely manages and tracks all information for the clinical year. The second system is the Patient Experiential Tracking System, which records and reports on the physician assistant students' patient encounters. These systems make possible the generation of frequent reports and timely review and adjustment of student and preceptor experiences ultimately leading to improved monitoring and evaluation of the clinical year of PA cducation.
