KBCADFW: A Knowledge-Based Collaborative Computer-Aided Design Framework

KBCADFW is a collaborative designing platform which integrates CAD/PDM/KM, it manages the product designing resources such as documents, data, knowledge, designing flow etc, KBCADFW uses workflow management system as it’s integration tool to make CAD/PDM/KM working together, it defines product designing knowledge structure and knowledge reasoning algorithm, also defines data exchange format and application integration interface among designing resources, realizing distributed designing resources sharing and application integration. As an knowledge-based product designing platform, KBCADFW solves the key problem in knowledge-based product designing ,such as designing process definition, product designing knowledge expression, knowledge extraction, designing data exchange and application integration etc.

A computer-aided framework for systematic model development, analysis and identification in innovative product-process engineering

A computer-aided modelling framework for developing, analyzing, identifying and applying models in chemical and biochemical product-process design has been developed. The modelling framework incorporates generalized approaches for solving different modelling problems in a systematic way and at the same time connects the required support and tools.

ICAS-PAT: A software for design, analysis and validation of PAT systems

In chemicals based product manufacturing, as in pharmaceutical, food and agrochemical industries, efficient and consistent process monitoring and analysis systems (PAT systems) have a very important role. These PAT systems ensure that the chemicals based product is manufactured with the specified end product qualities. In an earlier article, Singh et al. [Singh, R., Gernaey, K. V., Gani, R. (2009). Model-based computer-aided framework for design of process monitoring and analysis systems. Computers & Chemical Engineering, 33, 22–42] proposed the use of a systematic model and data based methodology to design appropriate PAT systems. This methodology has now been implemented into a systematic computer-aided framework to develop a software (ICAS-PAT) for design, validation and analysis of PAT systems. Two supporting tools needed by ICAS-PAT have also been developed: a knowledge base (consisting of process knowledge as well as knowledge on measurement methods and tools) and a generic model library (consisting of process operational models). Through a tablet manufacturing process example, the application of ICAS-PAT is illustrated, highlighting as well, the main features of the software.

Model-based computer-aided framework for design of process monitoring and analysis systems

In the manufacturing industry, for example, the pharmaceutical industry, a thorough understanding of the process is necessary in addition to a properly designed monitoring and analysis system (PAT system) to consistently obtain the desired end-product properties. A model-based computer-aided framework including the methods and tools through which the design of monitoring and analysis systems for product quality control can be generated, analyzed and/or validated, has been developed. Two important supporting tools developed as part of the framework are a knowledge base and a model library. The knowledge base provides the necessary information/data during the design of the PAT system while the model library generates additional or missing data needed for design and analysis. Optimization of the PAT system design is achieved in terms of product data analysis time and/or cost of monitoring equipment subject to the maintenance constraints of the desired product quality. The application of the model-based framework is highlighted through a case study involving the operation of a fermentation process.

Computer-aided Framework Design for Digital Dentistry

AbstractThe aim of this paper is to propose a customized dental framework (coping) design system to improve artificial teeth production. First, a structure light optical scanner is used to scan the teeth model. And the registration and triangulation algorithms are used to reconstruct the scanned data to a triangular solid model. In the coping design process, the first part is to find the margin lines of the prepared abutment teeth. Then the non-uniform offsetting and shelling algorithm is proposed to create the coping shell model with variable thickness. When restoring an edentulous space with a fixed partial denture that will crown the teeth adjacent to the space and bridge the gap with a pontic the restoration is referred to as a bridge. When the size or shape of coping and pontic models are not correct, some deformation tools are proposed to edit manually. Finally, the connector will be created between coping and pontic models.

Image Registration-Based Approach to Ranking Dental X-Ray Images for Human Forensic Identification

ABSTRACTDental features have been widely used for forensic identification purposes. However, the point-by-point comparison performed by a forensic odontologist in mass disaster situations or missing persons cases would be cumbersome and time-consuming due to the large number of records that would need to be compared. Consequently, a move towards computer-aided dental identification systems is necessary. In this work, we propose a computer-aided framework for matching of dental radiographs based on image registration. Given a postmortem (PM) radiograph with a marked region of interest (ROI), we searched the database of antemortem (AM) radiographs to retrieve a closest match. To express the degree of similarity/overlap between two radiographs, we used the weighted sum of squared differences (SSD) cost function. The method was tested on a database of 571 radiographs belonging to 41 distinct individuals. In 90% of the identification trials, our method ranked the correct match in the top 10%. In all trials, the correct match was among the top 22%. These experiments indicated that matching dental records using the SSD cost function is a viable method for human dental identification.

Computer-aided framework for pure component properties and phase equilibria prediction for organic systems

This paper presents the current state of the creation of a computer-aided framework using hybrid models for property prediction in organic systems: GC + models have been developed for the automatic generation of missing group contributions (for pure compound property prediction) and for the generation of missing group interaction parameters for mixture property prediction models (UNIFAC-CI). Emphasis is given to the increase of the applicability range, including VLE calculations for mixtures (UNIFAC-CI) and accurate models for pure component property prediction of stereoisomers. The development of these hybrid models is based on connectivity indices (CI) and molecular simulation methods.

Modelling and simulation framework for pollution control of chemical processes

During process design, it is possible to evaluate and control pollution that might occur during actual operation. This paper presents computer-aided design framework that enables the design team to define process design model elements and to measure possible pollution at each design step using performance indexes of pollution measures as mapped to process variables. Modelling methodology, called POOM, on the basis of object-oriented concepts is utilised to construct the design models of the underlying process. Process variables and performance indexes are defined within each model building block (structure unit), and used to evaluate pollutions for different design and operation alternatives.

Physics-Based Analysis and Simulation of Phase Noise in Oscillators

A technology computer-aided design framework that can predict the phase noise spectrum of an oscillator using nonlinear perturbation analysis is developed. The device-circuit mixed-mode simulation technique based upon the shooting-Newton method is exploited to evaluate the periodic steady-state solution of the oscillator. The influence of noise sources inside the devices on the phase deviation is calculated in an efficient and accurate way using the perturbation projection vector. The period jitter and the output power spectrum can be easily obtained in this framework. As an application, the output power spectrum of a CMOS LC voltage-controlled oscillator is calculated

A computer-aided framework for the selection and sequencing of orientating devices for the vibratory bowl feeder

Abstract Correct part orientation has been the key to many successful automation applications, and often vibratory bowls were used. Traditionally, the design and tooling of the vibratory bowls are limited to a group of skilled experts. In this paper a feature-based framework for the automatic selection and sequencing of orientating devices is presented. A direct link between part representation and the selection and sequencing of modular orientating devices is provided by a spatial technique, in place of traditional CAD representation. Also described is the classification of a part's orientating features and classification of orientating devices. These two classifications are integrated into a knowledge-based system that will automatically generate sequences of modular orientating devices.
