Efficacy and safety of Lianhua Qingwen in the treatment of patients with moderate COVID-19 infection: A protocol for systematic review and meta analysis.

Background: As of June 2020, more than 7 million cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-2019) have been reported worldwide. At present, there is no vaccine or antiviral for the novel coronavirus pneumonia. Lianhua Qingwen (LQ), a Chinese medicine formula, has been authorized by the Chinese government for treating COVID-2019. This systematic review and meta-analysis will evaluate the efficacy and safety of LQ on patients with COVID-19.Methods: Two independent reviewers will search the following databases of the China Biology Medicine disc, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science and Technology Periodical Database, Wanfang database, Embase, PubMed, and Cochrane Library from the date of conception to June 1, 2020. We will use the MeSH/Emtree terms, combining free-text words that were properly adjusted for the different databases in all of the search strategies. We will take primary clinical symptoms, total efficacy, and adverse event into consideration for our primary outcomes. As secondary outcomes, we will estimate the chest computed tomography manifestations, the rate of conversion to severe cases, and secondary clinical symptoms. We will evaluate the quality of including studies through the risk of bias assessment tool provided by the Cochrane Collaboration. Fixed-or random-effect model will be utilized to calculate the overall pooled risk estimates. Forest plots will be generated to prove the pooled results. Sensitivity analysis will be carried out to identify sources of heterogeneity. The Begg rank correlation test and Egger linear regression test will be used to explore publication bias.Results: This systematic review and meta-analysis will compare the primary and secondary outcomes at baseline and endpoint in the treatment and control groups to investigate the efficacy and safety of LQ for treatment COVID-2019.Discussion:Data from this study will provide strong evidence for clinical decision if the findings are positive.PROSPERO registration number: CRD42020190757.

Computed tomography manifestations in super early stage 2019 novel coronavirus pneumonia.

BackgroundThe recent outbreak of pneumonia cases in Wuhan, PR China, was caused by a novel beta coronavirus, the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19).PurposeTo summarize chest computed tomography (CT) manifestations of the early stage of COVID-19 infection and provide a piece of reliable imaging evidence for initial screening and diagnosis.Material and MethodsFrom 10 January 2020 to 10 February 2020, we continuously observed chest CT imaging of 14 patients with clinically suspected new coronavirus infection in the two weeks after onset of symptoms. Ground-glass opacity (GGO), consolidation, reticular pattern, and ground-glass mimic nodules in each patient’s chest CT image were recorded.ResultsWe enrolled 14 patients, of which nine patients had the infection confirmed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Five patients were highly suspected of infection. All cases had epidemiological evidence. GGO was a dominant imaging manifestation in the initial days of infection. GGO performance accounts for 40% in 1– 2 days, 90% in 3– 6 days, and 85% in 7– 10 days. With disease progression, consolidation appeared on follow-up CT. Consolidation performance accounts for 0% in 1– 2 days, 40% in 3– 6 days, and 71% in 7– 10 days. The lesions are mostly near the pleura. The number of lesions and the extent of the lesions increased as the disease progressed.ConclusionPatients with novel coronavirus pneumonia have characteristic CT features in the initial stage of infection, which can be used as an essential supplement for nucleic acid examination.

Artificial intelligence-assisted CT characterizations and quantitative analysis for differentiating pre-invasive lesions from invasive adenocarcinomas in pulmonary subsolid nodules ≤ 2cm.

e21614 Background: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in medical imaging has dramatically improved the quality of segmentation including accuracy, efficiency and reproducibility. This study sought to determine whether AI-assisted computed tomography (CT) features and quantitative analysis of pulmonary subsolid nodules (SSNs) under 2cm could be used to differentiate preinvasive lesions from invasive adenocarcinomas. Methods: Clinical data and CT images of 297 preinvasive lesions and early invasive lung adenocarcinomas confirmed by surgery pathology with CT manifestations of SSNs under 2cm were retrospectively analysed. The nodules were divided into two groups: the preinvasive lesions (PILs, N = 115) including 7 cases of atypical adenomatous hyperplasia (AAH), 30 cases of adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) and 78 cases of minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA), and the invasive adenocarcinomas (IACs, N = 182). All CTs were processed by AI and the volume, mean CT value, consolidation-to-tumor ratio (CTR), mass and maximum diameter of each SSN were obtained. Results: The volume, mean CT value, CTR, maximum diameter and mass of nodules showed significant difference between the two groups (Table). Multivariate analysis was determined by logistic regression. The regression model between the two groups was logit(p) = -1.439-2.927Volume +0.0005(mean CT value)-0.463(CTR > 0.5) +0.238(maximum diameter)+6.298(mass).The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) showed that the mass can do the best prediction among all the independent factors with the areas under the curve(AUC) 0.748 at a cut-off value of 0.154, with the sensitivity of 70.9% and specificity of 70.4% .The AUC of the ROC using the regression probabilities of regression model was 0.769. Conclusions: AI-assisted CT characterizations may be promising tools to predict if SSNs under 2 cm have invaded. [Table: see text]

Chest Computed Tomography Manifestation of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Patients With Cardiothoracic Conditions.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is a serious public health concern, with an exponentially growing number of patients worldwide. Computed tomography (CT) has been suggested as a highly sensitive modality for the diagnosis of pulmonary involvement in the early stages of COVID-19. The typical features of COVID-19 in chest CT include bilateral, peripheral, and multifocal ground-glass opacities with or without superimposed consolidations. Patients with underlying medical conditions are at higher risks of complications and mortality. The diagnosis of COVID-19 on the basis of the imaging features may be more challenging in patients with preexisting cardiothoracic conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, interstitial lung disease, cardiovascular disease, and malignancies with cardiothoracic involvement. The extensive pulmonary involvement in some of these pathologies may obscure the typical manifestation of COVID-19, whereas other preexisting pathologies may resemble the atypical or rare CT manifestations of this viral pneumonia. Thus, understanding the specific CT manifestations in these special subgroups is essential for a prompt diagnosis.

CT Manifestations and Clinical Characteristics of 1115 Patients with Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19): A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Rationale and ObjectivesWe aimed to assess the prevalence of significant computed tomographic(CT) manifestations and describe some notable features based on chest CT images, as well as the main clinical features of patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).Materials and MethodsA systematic literature search of PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science was performed to identify studies assessing CT features, clinical, and laboratory results of COVID-19 patients. A single-arm meta-analysis was conducted to obtain the pooled prevalence and 95% confidence interval (95% CI).ResultsA total of 14 articles (including 1115 patients) based on chest CT images were retrieved. In the lesion patterns on chest CTs, we found that pure ground-glass opacities (GGO) (69%, 95% CI 58–80%), consolidation (47%, 35–60%) and “air bronchogram sign” (46%, 25–66%) were more common than the atypical lesion of “crazy-paving pattern” (15%, 8–22%). With regard to disease extent and involvement, 70% (95% CI 46–95%) of cases showed a location preference for the right lower lobe, 65% (58–73%) of patients presented with ≥3 lobes involvement, and meanwhile, 42% (32–53%) of patients had involvement of all five lobes, while 67% (55–78%) of patients showed a predominant peripheral distribution. An understanding of some important CT features might be helpful for medical surveillance and management. In terms of clinical features, muscle soreness (21%, 95% CI 15–26%) and diarrhea (7%, 4–10%) were minor symptoms compared to fever (80%, 74–87%) and cough (53%, 33–72%).ConclusionChest CT manifestations in patients with COVID-19, as well as its main clinical characteristics, might be helpful in disease evolution and management.

COVID-19 Dynamic Computed Tomography (CT) Performance and Observation of Some Laboratory Indicators.

BackgroundChest CT has an essential role in the detection and evaluation of novel coronary pneumonia (COVID-19) and has be regarded as a critical supplement for RT-PCR. This study explored the dynamic CT manifestations of COVID-19 at different times and the value of some laboratory indicators for clinical guidance.Material/MethodsThis retrospective review included 44 patients who were infected with COVID-19. The dynamic chest CT and laboratory findings were obtained from electronic medical records. The intervals between onset and CT scans and the dynamic changes of the lesions were recorded. The above data were reviewed, sorted, and analyzed by using SPSS 21.0 software.ResultsFrom the time of onset, the dynamic image of the lungs became more complete. Fibrous cord shadow absorption in the lungs were observed. Experimental indicators, biochemical indicators of lymphocytes, and protein series were decreased to varying degrees, while erythrocyte sedimentation, fibrinogen, and D-dimer were increased to varying degrees.ConclusionsThe dynamic changes of CT images of lungs of COVID-19 patients, combined with the clinical manifestations and laboratory indicators of patients, can help guide clinical diagnosis and treatment.

The correlation between CT features and insulin resistance levels in patients with T2DM complicated with primary pulmonary tuberculosis

The aim is to investigate the correlation between computed tomography (CT) features and insulin resistance levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) complicated with primary pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). Nearly, 268 untreated PTB patients complicated with T2DM were divided into two groups according to the optimal cutoff value of HOMA-IR score for the Chinese population: HOMA-IR ≤ 2.69 (Group I: 74 patients), >2.69 (Group II: 194 patients). The basic characteristics and changes of CT manifestations were analyzed. In the two groups, the detection rate of large segmented leafy shadow was 39.2% and 78.9%; the air bronchogram sign detection rate was 40.5% and 80.9%; the discovery rate of mouth-eaten cavity was 33.8% and 73.7%; the thin-walled cavity detection rate was 2.7% and 16.0%; the rate of multiple cavities was 35.1% and 69.6%; and bronchial tuberculosis was found in 4.1% and 35.6%, respectively. The detection rates of lesions in Group II were significantly higher than in Group I (p < .05). HOMA-IR was found independently associated with large segmented leafy shadow, air bronchial sign, thin-walled cavity, and bronchial tuberculosis. The level of insulin resistance can effectively reflect the severity of PTB patients with T2DM. CT scan can directly provide image information in clinics. These two examinations can guide clinicians to accurately formulate subsequent treatment plans.

High-Resolution Computed Tomography Manifestations of 5 Pediatric Patients With 2019 Novel Coronavirus

We present clinical and chest computed tomography (CT) features of 5 cases of pediatric patients with 2019 novel coronavirus. Two patients had fever and dry cough, whereas the rest of 3 patients were asymptomatic. Three patients had unilateral ground glass opacities with or without consolidation in the subpleural region on high-resolution chest CT, 1 patient had bilateral ground glass opacities, and 1 patient was negative for CT. We note that up to 66.7% asymptomatic patients had pulmonary lesions, so the asymptomatic children with Wuhan contact are recommended to do a 2019 novel coronavirus real-time fluorescence polymerase chain reaction screening. Unlike adult patients, only a small amount of patients had multilobes affected, so we speculate that the pediatric patients generally have milder CT findings than adults.

High-resolution computed tomography manifestations of COVID-19 infections in patients of different ages

PurposeWe aimed to compare chest HRCT lung signs identified in scans of differently aged patients with COVID-19 infections. MethodsCase data of patients diagnosed with COVID-19 infection in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province in China were collected, and chest HRCT signs of infected patients in four age groups (<18 years, 18–44 years, 45–59 years, ≥60 years) were compared. ResultsSmall patchy, ground-glass opacity (GGO), and consolidations were the main HRCT signs in 98 patients with confirmed COVID-19 infections. Patients aged 45–59 years and aged ≥60 years had more bilateral lung, lung lobe, and lung field involvement, and greater lesion numbers than patients <18 years. GGO accompanied with the interlobular septa thickening or a crazy-paving pattern, consolidation, and air bronchogram sign were more common in patients aged 45–59 years, and ≥60 years, than in those aged <18 years, and aged 18–44 years. ConclusionsChest HRCT manifestations in patients with COVID-19 are related to patient’s age, and HRCT signs may be milder in younger patients.

Performance of LI-RADS version 2018 CT treatment response algorithm in tumor response evaluation and survival prediction of patients with single hepatocellular carcinoma after radiofrequency ablation.

BackgroundThe Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System treatment response algorithm (LI-RADS TRA) was developed to evaluate the tumor response of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after locoregional treatments. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of LI-RADS computed tomography (CT) TRA version 2018 in tumor response assessment and survival prediction of patients with single HCC after radiofrequency ablation (RFA).MethodsForty patients who underwent RFA for single HCC between 2010 and 2016 were included in this retrospective study. The overall survival (OS) data from all the patients after the first therapy was collected. Two readers independently assessed the pretreatment (within 7 d) and posttreatment (within 90 d after RFA) CT manifestations using the LI-RADS version 2018 CT TRA. Inter-reader agreement was assessed. Another radiologist re-evaluated any divergent results and came to the final conclusion. The performance of LI-RADS version 2018 CT TRA for tumor response assessment and predicting survival of patients with single HCC after RFA was evaluated.ResultsInterobserver agreement was moderate between the 2 readers [κ=0.602, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.390–0.814] when using LI-RADS version 2018 TRA to evaluate tumor response for patients with single HCC after RFA. Patients classified as LR-TR viable had significantly lower OS than those classified as LR-TR nonviable (P=0.005) and LR-TR equivocal (P=0.036). However, the OS between LR-TR nonviable and LR-TR equivocal did not differ significantly (P=0.901).ConclusionsLI-RADS version 2018 CT TRA can be applied to predict viable or nonviable HCC after RFA. Patients with LR-TR viable had significantly lower OS than those with LR-TR nonviable and LR-TR equivocal. More research is needed to validate the performance of LI-RADS version 2018 TRA in HCC tumor response evaluation, to better grasp the use of the tie-breaking rule, and to improve the accuracy of prediction for tumor viability.

The Clinical and Chest CT Features Associated With Severe and Critical COVID-19 Pneumonia.

ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to investigate the clinical and computed tomography (CT) features associated with severe and critical coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia.Materials and MethodsEighty-three patients with COVID-19 pneumonia including 25 severe/critical cases and 58 ordinary cases were enrolled. The chest CT images and clinical data of them were reviewed and compared. The risk factors associated with disease severity were analyzed.ResultsCompared with the ordinary patients, the severe/critical patients had older ages, higher incidence of comorbidities, cough, expectoration, chest pain, and dyspnea. The incidences of consolidation, linear opacities, crazy-paving pattern, and bronchial wall thickening in severe/critical patients were significantly higher than those of the ordinary patients. Besides, severe/critical patients showed higher incidences of lymph node enlargement, pericardial effusion, and pleural effusion than the ordinary patients. The CT scores of severe/critical patients were significantly higher than those of the ordinary patients (P < 0.001). Receiver operating characteristic curve showed that the sensitivity and specificity of CT score were 80.0% and 82.8%, respectively, for the discrimination of the 2 types. The clinical factors of age older than 50 years, comorbidities, dyspnea, chest pain, cough, expectoration, decreased lymphocytes, and increased inflammation indicators were risk factors for severe/critical COVID-19 pneumonia. Computed tomography findings of consolidation, linear opacities, crazy-paving pattern, bronchial wall thickening, high CT scores, and extrapulmonary lesions were features of severe/critical COVID-19 pneumonia.ConclusionsThere are significant differences in clinical symptoms, laboratory examinations, and CT manifestations between the ordinary patients and the severe/critical patients. Many factors are related to the severity of the disease, which can help clinicians to judge the severity of the patient and evaluate the prognosis.

Chest computed tomography findings and dynamic changes of severe coronavirus disease 2019

Objective To investigate the features of chest CT imaging and dynamic changes of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Methods The clinical and computed tomography (CT) data of 17 patients diagnosed with severe COVID-19 admitted to Chongqing Public Health Medical Center from January 24 to February 6, 2020 were collected. The first chest CT manifestations and the dynamic changes of imaging during treatment were retrospectively analyzed. Results The first chest CT manifestations of the 17 patients showed that 16 cases presented with peripheral and subpleural distributions, and 2 cases presented with 3 lobes involved, one case with 4 lobes involved and 14 cases with 5 lobes involved, and 17 cases presented with ground-glass opacities, ten cases with consolidation, seven cases with subpleural line, nine cases with air bronchogram, 3 cases with thickened lobular septum, two cases with bronchiectasis, two cases with pleural effusion, two cases with lymphadenopathy with the short diameter of 1.0-1.2cm. Among 16 patients who underwent repeated CT examination, the lesions of 8 patients showed continuous improvement, and those of the other 8 patients showed fluctuating changes. Conclusions The CT findings of severe COVID-19 patients are mainly ground-glass opacities and consolidation, with the peripheral distribution. The range of lesions is wide, with 5-lobe involvement mostly. Lymphadenopathy or pleural effusion is rare. Chest CT is useful for the evaluation for the therapeutic effects. Clinical and Computed Tomography Features of Female Pelvic Malignant Germ Cell Tumors in Children and Adolescents: ASeries of 30 Cases.

To investigate the clinical features and computed tomography (CT) findings of malignant pelvic germ cell tumors in female patients and improve the diagnostic level of this disease. The clinical and CT data of 30 female patients with malignant pelvic germ cell tumors confirmed using histopathology were retrospectively analyzed, before surgery, at a tertiary hospital. Patient's age, tumor location, clinical symptoms, tumor marker levels, and CT findings were recorded. None. Identification of the clinical features and CT findings of malignant pelvic germ cell tumors. The patients ranged in age from 11months to 22years old, with a mean age of 12.3years. The 30 cases (30 tumors) included 10 cases of yolk sac tumor, 8 cases of dysgerminoma, and 5 cases of immature teratoma. The alpha-fetoprotein levels were elevated in 8 cases of yolk sac tumor. Eight cases of dysgerminoma showed lobulation sign. Four cases of immature teratoma contained fat and calcification. The fibrovascular septa were observed on contrast-enhanced CT images in 4 cases of dysgerminoma. The "bright dot sign" was noted on contrast enhanced CT images in 9 cases of yolk sac tumor. Remarkable enhancement of the solid component or septa was detected in 10 cases of yolk sac tumor. Obvious enhancement surrounding vascular bundles in the tumor was observed in 5 cases of dysgerminoma. Malignant pelvic germ cell tumors in female patients frequently affect children and adolescents. The CT findings of dysgerminoma, immature teratoma, and yolk sac tumor have certain characteristic features. The combination of CT manifestations, tumor markers, and patient age helps improve the diagnostic level of this disease.

Surgical treatment for Kommerell's diverticulum associated with aortic dissection involving aortic arch.

Kommerell diverticulum with aortic dissection involving aortic arch is a rare but troublesome condition. The purpose of this study is to summarize the experience and strategy of surgical treatment. From November 2015 to January 2018, seven consecutive patients underwent surgical treatment in our institution. Three patients with acute type A aortic dissection and one patient with acute type B aortic dissection received total arch replacement and frozen elephant trunk (FET) implantation through median sternotomy. Three patients with chronic type B aortic dissection underwent total aortic arch and descending aorta replacement through median sternotomy and lateral thoracotomy. There were seven male patients whose median age was 42.3 ± 11.7 (from 14 to 54) years old. There was no perioperative death in this study. One patient had postoperative critical illness polyneuropathy and required prolonged mechanical ventilation (485 hours) and recovered finally. Follow up was completed for all seven patients with a median follow-up time of 7 (3-46) months. One patient with type A dissection developed aneurysm of the descending aorta distal to the FET and received reintervention. No clinical events and abnormal computed tomography manifestations were found in the other seven patients. Total arch replacement and FET through single median incision is a reliable method for Kommerell diverticulum associated with acute dissection involving arch. For Kommerell diverticulum associated with chronic type A or B aortic dissection involving aortic arch, graft replacement by double or single incision is safe and appropriate.

Association between BMP4 expression and pathology, CT characteristics and prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer.

To investigate the association between bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) expression and clinical pathology, computed tomography (CT) characteristics and prognosis of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A total of 76 NSCLC patients treated in our hospital from July 2012 to March 2015 were enrolled. The paired NSCLC and para-carcinoma tissues, as well as their CT image data were collected. The messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) and protein levels of BMP4 in NSCLC were detected via quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and immunohistochemistry (IHC). The association between BMP4 level and clinicopathological indexes of NSCLC patients was analyzed. Moreover, Kaplan-Meier method was introduced for analyzing the progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) in NSCLC patients with high-level or low-level BMP4. The correlation between CT manifestations and BMP4 level in NSCLC patients was analyzed using the Chi-square test. The mRNA level of BMP4 in NSCLC tissues was 2.15 times higher than that in para-carcinoma tissues (p<0.05). IHC results revealed 59.21% (45/76) of BMP4-positive NSCLC tissues and 40.79% (31/76) in para-carcinoma tissues. BMP4 level was higher in NSCLC patients with lymph node metastasis and those in clinical stage III and IV than those without lymph node metastasis and in clinical stage I and II (p<0.05). Besides, BMP4 level was not correlated to the gender, age and differentiation degree of NSCLC patients (p>0.05). According to the Kaplan-Meier survival curve, both PFS and OS were significantly shortened in NSCLC patients with high level of BMP4 compared with patients with low level of BMP4 (PFS: 13.28 months vs. 19.34 months, Log-rank test, p=0.016; OS: 15.14 months vs. 22.08 months, Log-rank test, p=0.027). BMP4 level was associated with lobulation sign, spinous process sign, tumor diameter and mediastinal lymph node metastasis in CT findings (p<0.05), rather than spiculation sign, ground glass sign, calcification lesion and CT enhancement value of lung cancer (p>0.05). BMP4 overexpression is closely associated with the occurrence and development of NSCLC and CT signs. Detection of BMP4 is helpful for evaluating the malignant degree and prognosis of NSCLC.

Pulmonary MALT Lymphoma has variable features on CT

Pulmonary mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma is the most common primary pulmonary lymphoma. There are limited studies on imaging features of pulmonary MALT lymphoma. We present the computed tomography (CT) manifestations of pulmonary MALT lymphoma and the correlation between CT manifestations and clinical characteristics. Patients (n = 53) with histologically confirmed pulmonary MALT lymphoma who underwent chest CT scanning were retrospectively analyzed. Evaluated findings included distribution of pulmonary lesions, morphological pattern of appearance, contrast enhancement features, size, presence of thoracic lymphadenopathy, and secondary associated features. Pulmonary MALT lymphoma was observed in multiple (79%) and bilateral (66%) disease with random distribution (≥70%) of pulmonary lesions. The most frequent morphological pattern was consolidation (n = 33, 62%), followed by nodule (n = 23, 43%) and mass (n = 11, 21%). Common associated features were air bronchograms and bronchiectasis, especially cystic bronchiectasis and angiogram sign. Asymptomatic patients had less consolidation and bronchiectasis than did symptomatic patients. Cystic bronchiectasis was only observed in the symptomatic group. In conclusion, pulmonary MALT lymphoma manifests as diverse patterns on CT scans. Consolidation combined with cystic bronchiectasis was a characteristic late sign, which may assist in differential diagnosis. High-resolution CT images and multiplanar reconstruction techniques are helpful for accurately determining imaging manifestations.

During the operation, abundant blood vessels were often observed in PCC than other adrenal tumors, which increases the difficulty and risk of the surgery. Therefore, it is important to investigate the mechanism of PCC angiogenesis. Twelve surgical specimens of PCC from Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University were grouped into high and low microvessel density (MVD) group. They were also divided into rich blood supply and nonenriched blood supply group, according to computed tomography (CT) manifestation. Comparative proteomic analysis based on liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) and bioinformatics analysis revealed that 206 proteins differentially regulated in the high MVD group compared with low MVD group (p < 0.05). Besides, 61 proteins were discovered to be significantly changed when the 12 samples were grouped according to CT manifestation. By intersecting the differentially changed protein from MVD and CT grouping, 25 proteins were filtered out, with pathological function. COX4I2 was verified to be increased gradually with angiogenesis with increasing severity, and PLAT was shown to be decreased with angiogenesis in PCC, by quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry. The quantitative proteomics result indicated that the tumor angiogenesis in PCC is associated with hypoxia. COX4I2 and PLAT were highly correlated with blood supply in PCC which contribute to angiogenesis in PCC, which could be used as biomarkers to better indicate tumor angiogenesis, or targets to regress tumor angiogenesis as treatment.

Spectrum of computed tomography manifestations of appendiceal neoplasms: acute appendicitis and beyond.

Appendiceal neoplasms are rare and often only discovered incidentally during surgery performed for acute appendicitis. Computed tomography (CT) has been demonstrated to be a reliable technique for accurately establishing the preoperative diagnosis of appendiceal neoplasms that manifest as acute appendicitis through the presence of certain imaging findings. Other manifestations of appendiceal neoplasms include appendiceal mass, mucocoele, localised abscess formation, ileus, increasing abdominal girth from pseudomyxoma peritonei, and intussusception. This pictorial essay illustrates varied CT findings of neoplasms of the appendix, with emphasis on the more commonly encountered manifestations of these tumours.

CT Manifestations of Tumor Spread Through Airspaces in Pulmonary Adenocarcinomas Presenting as Subsolid Nodules.

The aim of this study was to identify potential computed tomography manifestations of pulmonary adenocarcinomas presenting as subsolid nodules and associated with the histologic evidence of spread of tumor through air spaces (STAS). From a radiologic-pathologic repository of resected pulmonary adenocarcinomas including 203 subsolid nodules, 40 STAS-positive nodules were randomly selected and matched to 40 STAS-negative nodules. Total average diameter, as well as average and long-axis diameters of the solid component, was measured. The proportion of solid component diameter to total average diameter was calculated. Measurements and proportions between STAS-positive and STAS-negative nodules were compared with paired samples t test, χ test, or the Fisher exact test. The total average diameter in STAS-positive nodules was significantly larger than in STAS-negative nodules (P=0.024). The average and long-axis diameters of the solid component of STAS-positive nodules were significantly larger than that of STAS-negative nodules (P=0.001 and 0.003). The proportion of solid component to total average diameter was significantly larger in STAS-positive than in STAS-negative nodules (P=0.041). At a threshold of ≥10 mm for the average and the solid component long-axis diameters, significantly more nodules were STAS-positive than STAS-negative (P=0.015 and 0.001). Total average diameter, average and long-axis diameters of the solid component, and a high proportion of solid component diameter compared with total average diameter are computed tomography manifestations of subsolid pulmonary adenocarcinomas with STAS. These findings could serve as an in-vivo tool for the likelihood estimation of STAS, and consequently influence management of subsolid adenocarcinomas.
