E-GOVERNMENT MATURITY ANALYSIS USING THE LAYNE AND LEE, HILLER AND BELANGER, AND SPBE MODELS

This research aims to analyze the level of e-government maturity in Kupang City using the Layne and Lee and Hiller and Belanger models and combine them with the SPBE model to provide a more comprehensive approach. The method used to develop an audit model involves a literature study to understand the e-government maturity model, identification of specific objectives for analysis of the Kupang City Population and Civil Registration Service (DUKCAPIL) website, determination of scope based on the SPBE model, determination of design audit criteria and benchmarks, collection and data synthesis from the Kupang City DUKCAPIL e-Government site, as well as analysis of audit findings, and using the GT Metrix tool for performance analysis and evaluation of the Kupang City DUKCAPIL website. The research results show that the lowest rating is F out of six, which indicates poor service performance. The Layne and Lee Model assessment gives a score of 18, indicating the technology's lack of integration and complexity. Hiller and Belanger's Model assessment gives a value of 13, indicating an immature level. These findings highlight significant gaps between the models evaluated. Recommendations based on research are to increase citizen participation by improving the Kupang City DUKCAPIL website based on a maturity model and the need for regular audits and ongoing evaluations to improve public services in Kupang City in e-government maturity. In conclusion, this research provides a new contribution to the field of e-government by highlighting the need for audits using several e-government maturity models to improve public services in Kupang City.

Uncovering the toxicity mechanisms of a series of carboxylic acids in liver cells through computational and experimental approaches

Hepatotoxicity poses a significant concern in drug design due to the potential liver damage that can be caused by new drugs. Among common manifestations of hepatotoxic damage is lipid accumulation in hepatic tissue, resulting in liver steatosis or phospholipidosis. Carboxylic derivatives are prone to interfere with fatty acid metabolism and cause lipid accumulation in hepatocytes. This study investigates the toxic behaviour of 24 structurally related carboxylic acids in hepatocytes, specifically their ability to cause accumulation of fatty acids and phospholipids. Using high-content screening (HCS) assays, we identified two distinct lipid accumulation patterns. Subsequently, we developed structure-activity relationship (SAR) and quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models to determine relevant molecular substructures and descriptors contributing to these adverse effects. Additionally, we calculated physicochemical properties associated with lipid accumulation in hepatocytes and examined their correlation with our chemical structure characteristics. To assess the applicability of our findings to a wide range of chemical compounds, we employed two external datasets to evaluate the distribution of our QSAR descriptors. Our study highlights the significance of subtle molecular structural variations in triggering hepatotoxicity, such as the presence of nitrogen or the specific arrangement of substitutions within the carbon chain. By employing our comprehensive approach, we pinpointed specific molecules and elucidated their mechanisms of toxicity, thus offering valuable insights to guide future toxicology investigations.

Time-dependent biomechanical evaluation for corrective planning of scoliosis using finite element analysis – A comprehensive approach

Scoliosis is a medical condition marked by an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine, typically forming a sideways “S” or “C” shape. Mechanically, it manifests as a three-dimensional deformation of the spine, potentially leading to diverse clinical issues such as pain, diminished lung capacity, and postural abnormalities. This research specifically concentrates on the Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) population, as existing literature indicates a tendency for this type of scoliosis to deteriorate over time. The principal aim of this investigation is to pinpoint the biomechanical factors contributing to the progression of scoliosis by employing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on computed tomography (CT) data collected from adolescent patients. By accurately modeling the spinal curvature and related deformities, the stresses and strains experienced by vertebral and intervertebral structures under diverse loading conditions can be simulated and quantified. The transient simulation incorporated damping and inertial terms, along with the static stiffness matrix, to enhance comprehension of the response. The findings of this study indicate a significant reduction in the Cobb angle, halving from its initial value, decreasing from 35° to 17°. In degenerative scoliosis, failure was predicted at 109 cycles, with the Polypropylene brace deforming by 10.34 mm, while the Nitinol brace exhibited significantly less deformation at 7.734 mm. This analysis contributes to a better understanding of the biomechanical mechanisms involved in scoliosis development and can assist in the formulation of more effective treatment strategies. The FEA simulation emerges as a valuable supplementary tool for exploring various hypothetical scenarios by applying diverse loads at different locations to enhance comprehension of the effectiveness of proposed interventions.

Nutritional Interventions for the Prevention of Cognitive Decline in Patients With Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer Disease: Protocol for a Network Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is the stage between cognitive decline due to physiological aging and the severity of decline seen in neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer disease (AD), which is among the most prevalent neurodegenerative disorders characterized by cognitive impairment. People with MCI are at increased risk of developing AD. Although MCI and AD are incurable, nutritional interventions can potentially delay or prevent their onset. Consequently, effective interventions used to decelerate or alleviate the progress of cognitive impairment in older people are a significant focus in geriatric care. Given the synergistic effects of nutrition on health, assessing the effectiveness of nutritional supplements or dietary composition in preventing MCI or AD is essential for developing interventional strategies. Our study aims to assess the effectiveness of various nutritional interventions, including special dietary types, dietary patterns, specific foods, nutritional intake, and nutritional supplements, in preventing cognitive decline among patients diagnosed with MCI or AD. To achieve this, we will use a comprehensive approach, including network meta-analysis, pairwise meta-analysis, and systematic review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). The review will follow the Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome (PICO) model and the PRISMA-P (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols) guidelines. Two investigators will independently search PubMed electronically. Data extraction will follow the inclusion criteria, and data will be assessed for risk of bias using a revised tool. Additionally, evidence quality will be evaluated using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) framework. The outcomes of interest are assessing the cognitive outcomes in patients with MCI or AD. A systematic literature search will be conducted, identifying randomized controlled trials that investigate the impact of these nutritional interventions on cognitive function decline in individuals with MCI and AD. Network meta-analyses (random-effects model) and pairwise meta-analyses will then estimate the relative effectiveness of different nutritional interventions. We included 51 studies, published between 1999 and 2023 (27 studies for AD and 24 studies for MCI) and involving 8420 participants. We completed data extraction for all 51 studies by December 2023. Currently, we are actively engaged in data analysis and manuscript preparation. We plan to finalize the manuscript and publish the comprehensive results by the end of 2024. Our study holds significant clinical relevance given the rising prevalence of AD and the potential influence of nutritional interventions on cognitive function in individuals with MCI and AD. By investigating this relationship, our research aims to inform evidence-based decision-making in the development of prevention strategies for MCI and AD. The outcomes are expected to contribute to the establishment of reliable recommendations for MCI or AD management, providing substantial support in the field. Rethinking the music curriculum theories: Towards an updated comprehensive student-centred approach

This article reports a theoretical investigation on music curriculum and explores the factors that shape the practice of music education in terms of the official and other music curricula. We drew on relevant literature and explored four key aspects of the design and implementation of music curriculum: policy-making contexts, teaching practices, students’ practices and attitudes, and school contexts. Currently, music education research focuses on student-centredness as an important element in music practice. Embracing students’ various ways of musical engagement as well as their music identities promotes further development of their musical-social skills and enhances their interests. We suggest the development of an updated and comprehensive music curriculum which is student-centred and based on new musical literacies that respond to students’ daily musical needs and address the challenges of today’s social context. Our suggestion is encompassed in five core principles: 1) Getting to know our students, 2) Discussing the teaching-learning goals with our students, 3) Adapting to local conditions, 4) Bottom-up and top-down perspectives: Finding the balance through authentic classroom activities, and 5) Contextualising assessment. The article advocates for the effective use of all types of music curricula so that students become active, responsible and critical thinkers in their personal, social and musical lives.

Advancing traffic safety through the safe system approach: A systematic review

The Safe System Approach (SSA) has emerged as a comprehensive framework for enhancing traffic safety through system-wide interventions. This systematic review, conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, analyzes 82 relevant studies categorized based on the SSA pillars: safe road users, safe vehicles, safe speeds, safe roads, and post-crash care. The review provides insights into SSA's effectiveness in reducing road traffic fatalities and injuries, exploring implementation challenges and opportunities, including policy initiatives, institutional frameworks, and stakeholder collaborations. The findings highlight the potential for SSA to create a more forgiving and resilient transportation system, offering valuable guidance for policy decisions, future research, and interventions aimed at promoting safer road environments. SSA's comprehensive strategy for Safe Road Users encompasses considerations of road system design, behavior modification, and tailored measures for vulnerable users, showcasing its versatility in addressing diverse challenges. In the realm of Safe Vehicles, SSA actively involves manufacturers in a cycle of continuous improvement, rigorous testing, and collaborative efforts to establish new safety regulations. Conservative management of tubercular intestinal obstruction with antitubercular drugs and steroid

Objective: Tubercular intestinal obstruction is a challenging condition often necessitating surgical intervention. This case study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of conservative management, including antitubercular therapy, short-course steroids, and dietary modifications, in resolving acute and complete intestinal obstruction caused by tuberculosis. Case Description: A 17-year-old malnourished male presented with acute abdominal pain, vomiting, and constipation. Imaging revealed mid-ileal intestinal obstruction due to tuberculosis. Conservative management, involving intravenous antibiotics, nasogastric decompression, steroids, and antitubercular treatment, led to gradual resolution. The patient experienced recurrent partial obstruction episodes, each managed conservatively with antibiotics, steroids, and dietary adjustments. A slow transition from liquid to solid diet accompanied recovery. After a year of treatment, the patient achieved recovery with weight gain. Conclusion: Tubercular intestinal obstruction, challenging to treat medically, often requires surgery. However, this case demonstrates the successful outcome through a comprehensive conservative approach. The inclusion of steroids alongside antitubercular treatment played a crucial role. Additionally, a cautious transition from liquid to solid diet post-resolution proved effective in preventing recurrence. Conservative management, when tailored to the patient's nutritional needs and disease course, can lead to favorable outcomes in tubercular intestinal obstruction.

Reproductive Decision Making of Spanish Women Living With HIV: A Constructivist Grounded Theory Study.

The process of reproductive decision making among women living with HIV is intricate and multifaceted, influenced by health considerations, societal factors, and personal values. In this study, we employed Charmaz's Constructivist Grounded Theory to understand how Spanish women living with HIV make decisions regarding reproduction. We conducted 26 face-to-face interviews until data saturation was achieved. Findings suggested that social constructs such as femininity and motherhood play a significant role in the reproductive decision-making process for women living with HIV. The women's beliefs about HIV, doubts, marginalizing situations, and health barriers create challenges to making reproductive decisions. These findings provide valuable implications for designing care plans that meet the unique sexual and reproductive health needs of women with HIV. An integrated and comprehensive multidisciplinary counseling approach is necessary to improve the quality of care.

Transformational Application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Financial Technologies and Financial Services: A Bibliometric Review

In this study, I employ a multifaceted comprehensive scientometric approach to explore the intellectual underpinnings of AI and ML in financial research by examining the publication patterns of articles, journals, authors, institutions, and nations by leveraging quantitative techniques, that transcend conventional systematic literature reviews, enabling the effective analysis of vast scientometric and bibliographic data. By applying these approaches, I identify influential works, seminal contributions, thought leaders, topical clusters, research streams, and new research frontiers, ultimately fostering a deeper understanding of the knowledge structure in AI and ML finance research by considering publication records from 2010 to 2022 from several search engines and database sources. The present study finds a marked increase in publications from 2017 to 2022, which highlights a growing interest and expanding research activity in the field, indicating its potential significance and relevance in the contemporary academic landscape.

Uncovering the Dynamic Alterations of Volatile Components in Sweet and Floral Aroma Black Tea during Processing.

Aroma is an indispensable factor that substantially impacts the quality assessment of black tea. This study aims to uncover the dynamic alterations in the sweet and floral aroma black tea (SFABT) throughout various manufacturing stages using a comprehensive analytical approach integrating gas chromatography electronic nose, gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS), and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Notable alterations in volatile components were discerned during processing, predominantly during the rolling stage. A total of 59 typical volatile compounds were identified through GC-IMS, whereas 106 volatile components were recognized via GC-MS throughout the entire manufacturing process. Among them, 14 volatile compounds, such as linalool, β-ionone, dimethyl sulfide, and 1-octen-3-ol, stood out as characteristic components responsible for SFABT with relative odor activity values exceeding one. This study serves as an invaluable theoretical platform for strategic controllable processing of superior-quality black tea.

Clinical Indicators of Bone Deterioration in Alcoholic Liver Cirrhosis and Chronic Alcohol Abuse: Looking beyond Bone Fracture Occurrence.

Although previous studies indicated that chronic alcohol abuse (CAA) and alcoholic liver cirrhosis (ALC) are associated with increased bone fragility, understanding bone fragility determinants is still modest in these individuals. We used a comprehensive individualized clinical fracture risk assessment approach (vertebral osteodensitometry, femoral osteodensitometry and geometry, and serum bone turnover biomarkers) to compare adult male patients with ALC who have not previously had femoral or vertebral fractures (n = 39), patients with CAA (without liver cirrhosis, n = 78) who have not previously had femoral or vertebral fractures and healthy age- and sex-matched controls (n = 43). Our data suggested that intertrochanteric bone mineral density was significantly lower in ALC and CAA patients than in controls. Also, the trabecular bone score was considerably lower in ALC patients compared with CAA and control individuals. The most significant inter-group differences in femoral geometry were noted on the femoral shaft. Patients with ALC and CAA have a higher 10-year risk of major osteoporotic fractures compared to the controls. Analysis of bone turnover biomarkers showed increased osteoprotegerin and beta-C-terminal telopeptide serum concentrations and decreased insulin growth factor-1 concentrations in patients with ALC compared to CAA and control groups. Our data revealed that bone alterations are present in patients with ALC and CAA even if they did not sustain a nontraumatic bone fracture, but it is also indicative that current bone-assessing clinical methods are not entirely reliable. Thus, future studies should focus on developing a reliable integrative clinical tool that can be used to accurately predict and prevent bone fracture occurrences in patients with ALC and CAA.

Multi-omics reveals deoxycholic acid modulates bile acid metabolism via the gut microbiota to antagonize carbon tetrachloride-induced chronic liver injury

ABSTRACT Deoxycholic acid (DCA) serves essential functions in both physiological and pathological liver processes; nevertheless, the relationship among DCA, gut microbiota, and metabolism in chronic liver injury remain insufficiently understood. The primary objective of this study is to elucidate the potential of DCA in ameliorating chronic liver injury and evaluate its regulatory effect on gut microbiota and metabolism via a comprehensive multi-omics approach. Our study found that DCA supplementation caused significant changes in the composition of gut microbiota, which were essential for its antagonistic effect against CCl4-induced chronic liver injury. When gut microbiota was depleted with antibiotics, the observed protective efficacy of DCA against chronic liver injury became noticeably attenuated. Mechanistically, we discovered that DCA regulates the metabolism of bile acids (BAs), including 3-epi DCA, Apo-CA, and its isomers 12-KLCA and 7-KLCA, IHDCA, and DCA, by promoting the growth of A.muciniphila in gut microbiota. This might lead to the inhibition of the IL-17 and TNF inflammatory signaling pathway, thereby effectively countering CCl4-induced chronic liver injury. This study illustrates that the enrichment of A. muciniphila in the gut microbiota, mediated by DCA, enhances the production of secondary bile acids, thereby mitigating chronic liver injury induced by CCl4. The underlying mechanism may involve the inhibition of hepatic IL-17 and TNF signaling pathways. These findings propose a promising approach to alleviate chronic liver injury by modulating both the gut microbiota and bile acids metabolism.

Exploring the Intersection of Aquaponics and Ornamental Fish Culture in Italy’s Aquaculture Evolution: A Review of Innovative Integration

The global imperative for sustainable food production has ignited a surge in interest and creativity at the nexus of aquaculture and agriculture. Italy, renowned for its historical embrace of aquaculture, has become a focal point for innovation through the fusion of aquaponics and ornamental fish farming. This review extensively explores Italy’s dynamic aquaponics landscape, with a specific spotlight on the integration of ornamental fish into closed-loop systems. The study delves into the intricate relationship between fish culture and plant development within aquaponic systems, presenting a comprehensive approach to nutrient recycling in the realm of sustainable agriculture. This symbiotic interaction not only enhances resource efficiency but also provides a pragmatic means to counter the environmental drawbacks associated with conventional aquaculture methods. Furthermore, the review assesses the financial ramifications of incorporating decorative fish species into aquaponic systems, shedding light on the economic viability of this innovative approach. Based on a careful review of 27 research articles about the integration of aquaponics and ornamental fish culture in Europe, specifically in Italy, as well as 20 articles about aquaponics with edible fish, two about perspectives on hydroponics, and five about the integration of aquaponics and ornamental fish culture perspectives in Europe, Asia, and other regions, the study clarifies the efforts of Italian farmers. This review seeks to contribute to the ongoing success of this creative integration by synthesizing current knowledge and outlining critical avenues for future research.

Harnessing Untapped Resources for Sustainable Energy Production from Municipal Solid Waste in Recourse Challenged Economies: A Case Study of Rajshahi City Corporation, Bangladesh

The sustainable management of municipal solid waste is of utmost importance for cities in Bangladesh, including Rajshahi City, which faces unique challenges due to rapid urbanization, industrial growth, and population expansion. This study aimed to gain insights into waste generation patterns and characteristics in Rajshahi by analyzing factors like moisture content, bulk density, dry density, and calorific value of municipal solid waste at the Rajshahi landfill site. The objective was to identify the most feasible method for waste characterization and segregation. The research methodology utilized a comprehensive approach, incorporating field surveys, laboratory analyses, and statistical modeling to create an energy matrix and assess the potential for waste-to-energy production in Rajshahi City. This study aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to waste and energy management, including SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy - by exploring waste-to-energy options. SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities - by addressing waste management challenges in a rapidly urbanizing area. SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production - by promoting sustainable waste management practices. SDG 13: Climate Action - by potentially reducing greenhouse gas emissions through efficient waste-to-energy conversion. Overall, this research contributes to Rajshahi City's efforts to achieve sustainable development while addressing its waste and energy needs by converting its 75.8% organic waste to electricity using an anaerobic digester.

Ultrafast polarization characterization with Mueller matrix based on optical time-stretch and spectral encoding.

High-speed optical polarization characterization is highly desirable for a wide range of applications, including remote sensing, telecommunication, and medical diagnosis. The utilization of the Mueller matrix provides a superior systematic and comprehensive approach to represent polarization attributes when matter interacts with optical beams. However, the current measurement speed of Mueller matrix is limited to only seconds or milliseconds. In this study, we present an ultrafast Mueller matrix polarimetry (MMP) technique based on optical time-stretch and spectral encoding that enables us to achieve an impressive temporal resolution of 4.83 nanoseconds for accurate Mueller matrix measurements. The unique feature of optical time-stretch technology enables continuous, ultrafast single-shot spectroscopy, resulting in a remarkable speed of up to 207 MHz for spectral encoding Mueller matrix measurement. We have employed an effective Mueller linear reconstruction algorithm based on the measured modulation matrix, accounting for all potential non-ideal effects of polarization components like retardance error and azimuth error. To ensure high precision, prior to the actual measurement, high-order dispersion induced by time-stretch requires adjustment through proper modulation matrix design. Upon such correction, both the results of static and rapid dynamic samples measurements exhibit exceptional accuracy with root-mean-square error (RMSE) approximately equal to 0.04 and 0.07 respectively. This presented ultrafast MMP provides a significant advance over preceding endeavors, enabling superior accuracy and increased speed concurrently.

Devising an approach for the automated restoration of shipmaster’s navigational qualification parameters under risk conditions

The object of this study is the safety control system of ship management, by identifying and restoring the qualification parameters of shipmasters in critical situations. The task solved in the study is the timely determination of an insufficient level of qualification for the performance of certain operations in controlling the movement of the ship, by applying a formal-logical model of detecting the intuitive actions of the operator-shipmaster and gradually restoring his/her qualification parameters using the devised method. The stages of development and the formal-logical structure of the model and method in terms of cognitive automation were described in detail as the study results. It was possible to ensure early detection of risks when controlling the movement of the ship in 56 % of cases, during a laboratory experiment on simulators, which in 24 % of cases turned out to be particularly dangerous. The interpretation of the results involved algorithmizing complex and formalized data on the actions of operators and the application of the method of restoring their qualification parameters, which allowed a comprehensive approach to safety management. The distinguishing features of the findings were to predict the level of danger by simulating maritime operations with input navigational and individual conditions. This made it possible to improve the effectiveness of operations to 89 %, reduce the phenomenon of loss of control over the course to 32 %, reduce critical situations to 7 % and the cost of resources. The scope and conditions of practical use involve a comprehensive assessment of external and internal influences on the level of danger, delay in decision-making by operators, as well as sailing conditions. The simulation results could be used to devise strategies for planning maneuvers, predicting risks, and developing maritime security systems

Reviewing the impact of cloud computing on small and medium enterprises in Africa

This paper aims to review and analyze the impact of cloud computing specifically on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the African context. As cloud computing continues to gain traction worldwide, its implications for SMEs in Africa, which constitute a significant portion of the region's economic fabric, become increasingly crucial. The study will adopt a comprehensive approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to assess the various dimensions of cloud computing adoption among SMEs in Africa. Refining Asymmetric Low‐Coordinated Fe‐N3 Motif to Boost Catalytic Ozonation Activity

AbstractIn the quest to boost the intrinsic activity of single‐atom catalysts (SACs), optimizing the electronic properties of metal centers and maximizing active sites play a pivotal role. Here, a facile surface molten salt‐assisted approach for fabricating porous iron‐nitrogen‐carbon catalysts enriched with catalytically accessible single‐atom motifs is reported. Multiple characterization analyses prove that abundant intrinsic defects are generated at the edge sites, resulting in the formation of thermally stable unstitched Fe‐N3 motif. Theoretical investigations unveil that the transition from Fe‐N4 to Fe‐N3 induces structural alteration, resulting in the convergence of Fe‐3d orbital energy to Fermi energy. The low‐coordinated Fe‐N3 motif exhibits higher activation ability, reinforcing its interaction with O3 and weakening the O‐O bond. This leads to a reduction in the reactivity of surface atomic oxygen barriers (O3‐to‐*O/*OO), ultimately achieving efficient catalytic oxidation of methyl mercaptan and its intermediates, achieving performance 20‐fold higher than intact Fe‐N4 catalysts and 625‐fold higher than commercial MnO2. These findings present a comprehensive approach for synthesizing SACs with fully accessible active sites and boosted electronic configurations to advance catalytic ozonation activity.

The influence of AI text generators on critical thinking skills in UK business schools

ABSTRACT This study investigates the influence of generative artificial intelligence (GAI), specifically AI text generators (ChatGPT), on critical thinking skills in UK postgraduate business school students. Using Bloom’s taxonomy as theoretical underpinning, we adopt a mixed-method research employing a sample of 107 participants to investigate both the influence and challenges of these technologies in higher education. Our findings reveal that the most significant improvements occurred at the lower levels of Bloom’s taxonomy. We identify concerns relating to reliability, accuracy, and potential ethical implications of its application in higher education. The significance of this paper spans across, pedagogy, policy and practice, offering insights into the complex relationship between AI technologies and critical thinking skills. While highlighting the multifaceted aspects of the impact of AI in education, this article serves as a guide to educators and policymakers, stressing the importance of a comprehensive approach to fostering critical thinking and other transferable skills in the higher education landscape.
